Royal Farms Chicken Tops ‘Food & Wine’ Best Gas Station Foods List

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Royal Farms’s world famous fried chicken has landed the top spot on a “Food & Wine” list of best gas station foods.

The magazine had this to say about Baltimore’s favorite fried treat:

“If you live in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia or Pennsylvania, you have the distinct privilege of enjoying some of the best fast-food fried chicken à la gas station in the form of Royal Farms. This Southern gas station chain is famous for their crispy fried chicken, flaky dinner rolls and breaded potato wedges known as “western fries.” If a glance at chicken-filled buffet trays glowing golden under the heat lamp alongside lotto tickets and Lays chips puts you off, check yourself and just order it already. Locations abound, and some are even coming to New Jersey soon.”
“It’s the best chicken you’ll ever have,” Royal Farms district leader Ricki Ettinger tells WJZ. “It’s perfect.”

  6. Yeah right I would not eat anything not packaged from Royal Farms. The last time I was there the attendant was picking her teeth with her long Frito nails and starring off into space. When she finally asked how she could help me I replied " You can begin by washing your hands" Then the eye rolling and head bobbing attitude began scratching her weave and and giving me sass. I don't eat any fast food for the same reason. It's not the food but the people that are not sanitary that prepare it and help you. I would sooner dumpster dive than support business models like this. WAWA sucks too. You place your own order and I don't know if they can't read or don't care but they never get anything right and they too don't seem together or clean. I am never so hungry or LAZY that I can't shop and feed myself at home and pack my own lunch. Many of the " Finer" establishments are no better.

  7. Twelve pieces with no sides for $20 is a little stiff, but it's definitely tasty if you get it freshly cooked.

  8. If you want CHEAP, go to Walmart. Royal Farms does have great chicken though.

  13. No , the best gas station food on the shore is Hoyt Harbor in Crisfield (formerly Puffs Place). Their fried chicken beats any other hands down, including fast food fried chicken. And you can buy a slice of Smith Island cake as a dessert!

  14. It is pricey; but it is GOOD!

  18. Gas prices, gas, chicken: hit the MD / VA line.
Rofo has the best chicken around! Never had a problem down this way.

  21. @ 6:37,

You are just a cantankerous old goat.

First off, you gave yourself away about not knowing how to even order at Royal Farms.

You place your order at the computer touch screen. No personal interaction is needed at that time...unfortunately....but any way you have a lot of BS about you.

  22. I have compared their chicken to Walmart and Food Lion. And Royal Farms is the best!!

I remove the fried skin on all food though because of my acid reflux.

Im with you! Has to be the HOA Chicken Fry. We don't like the HOA Chicken Breader. The one that comes in the plastic bag is the fry. The one that comes like a little sack of flour is the breader. Chicken Fry is much better.

  24. Good Fried Chicken at Dayton's Snow Hill Road.
    Better than ROFO.

  25. I love Royal Farm chicken, just saying . . .

  26. 9:57 Dayton's ain't worth the wait!!!

  27. Daytons fried chix. is the best and you dont have to sell the ranch to pay for it. 4 piece dinner with 2 sides and a roll for less than $10.00. Breast, thigh, leg, wing.

  28. nasty! if I want to get sick I'll eat at a gas station!
ever seen the disgusting people who handle your food? same for all the fast food joints!
    yuck!

  29. I life Daytons Crunch but found it was severely lacking in Spices. Was a little bland for me.

Minit Market on 32nd in Ocean City is great. haven't had it in years but always loved it. Their subs were great also.

Shore Stop on Mt. Hermon Road has great chicken and the prices are amazing. Only problem with them is that they stop making it at 3pm. I have tried to get their chicken to bring home for diner but they have the deli closed out and dark by 4pm.

Royal Farms does have good chicken but it really depends on if they keep the fryer clean. I have had it at times when it was fantastic and other times when it just tasted like dirty oil.

As for the guy who said he had a rude girl picking her teeth take his order..I call BS. You don't order from the staff at Royal Farms. You place your order in the computer and then go pay for it.

  30. 7:20 me too, little to much salt, but doable.

  31. "...I remove the fried skin on all food though because of my acid reflux."

There's an easy way to cure acid reflux. I had it bad for over ten years and when I got divorced it just went away. Never had it again!

  32. Chicken Man in Snow Hill has the best chicken around, hands down. It taste the same every time everyday. All of you fried chicken experts take a ride to snow hill and try some of this chicken. Best on Delmarva

  33. The Roost chicken isn't as good as it used to be and the next day it's not edible unlike ROFO.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The verdict is in and ROFO won

    ReplyDelete
  35. Roost chicken is just a filler to cut down on the amount of crabs you eat. We just throw it in the trash.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If you catch it when it's fresh, it's pretty good. But after it's been under those warming lights for a few hours, it like reheated french fries and not fit to eat.

  37. August 31, 2017 at 6:37 PM:

I found a clipped fingernail in my Food Lion in-store deli prepared, rotisserie chicken salad one time a while back. It is why I don't eat anything prepared in-store, at a grocery store anymore. I guess I should be grateful that there wasn't a piece of finger still connected to the fingernail.

  38. It is the best chicken I've ever eaten. But, the servers make the food nasty. To bad fast food can't be delivered by robots. Those hood rats just need to stay home, blacks, white and other nationalities all together. Customers serves been dead. They are not wanted.
