$16.63 an hour. Shy better than the projected/eventually (maybe, HA) national minimum wage of $15.00.
ReplyDeleteNow, lets take a rough 35% out for taxes ($12,112.80) and you are left with $22,495.20 for the rest of the year. That is truly SAD!
Still like the AMAZON on the eastern shore idea much MUCH better!!! I know many will say slave type wages, long hours...hell the number of JOBS (compared to 1 lowly Corrections Officer).

ReplyDeleteAt that wage 20% is more in line for state and federal taxes, but if it is considered a state job I think there is a mandatory percentage that comes out for pension. 7% maybe. Then there is the healthcare premium.
You continue on your path of stupidity thinking Amazon is going to be any better and that this place is even a thought in their head. Why would such a progressive company want to come to the Ghetto? We have nothing to offer them or the talent they acquire, other than the beach. No entertainment, no nice restaurants, nothing progressive or metropolitan.

But by the time you retire, long before anyone in the private sector can retire with the same years of employment, your will be making $60,000.00 a year (or much,much more) and you will get 80% of your final earnings for the rest of your early retirement life. That includes healthcare, to boot. If you look at the benefits of a county job, they are some of the best jobs around. Needless to say, they are some of the hardest jobs to get. You have to KNOW somebody to get in, then you are set for life.

DeleteNot sure where you are getting those figures. If you retire after 25 years you will get a 50 percent pension that you have contributed 6% of your salary towards. The health insurance is not that much better than most employers and afterbyou retire its not as good.

ReplyDeleteThis is base salary, than factor in lots of overtime, and the money the inmates have family and friends give you for the drugs and other contraband snuck into the jail.

ReplyDeleteI've worked t numerous correctional facilities in MD. WCDC is by far the worse run jail I've ever seen. The inmates and their families intimidate staff constantly and the inmates and their gangs basically run the place. The warden there has absolutely no custody experience and is only a politician. it's run like a counyty club and has a high high recidivism rate. The County needs to run this place lire a jail & KEEP THE POLITICS OUT. SHERIFF lEWIS NEEDS TO TAKE CONTROL OF THIS FACILITY AND MAKE IT SAFE FOR ALL!!!! Overpaid Warden with no custody experience, under paid staff, no control of inmates and basically not giving the citizens of Wicomico County the bang for their tax bucks or the safety they so rightly deserve.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same county that was advertising for an IT position, that required a degree, and like 5 years experience in some obscure program, and wanted to only pay $35,xxx a year! That's job would be over $90k elsewhere, or even minimum $70k without the specialized experience!
ReplyDeleteThey also want to pay a ferry boat operator $12.24 an hour for all of that responsibility and not only that, expect you to have mechanic's ability to fix the damn boat too!

ReplyDelete1247 is right. The $34,000 number was supposed to be the initial money for the training time but raises used to be given after the period was over. John Cannon and County Council got the raises removed from this year's budget so now the base number is all they get.

ReplyDeleteAmazon is NEVER coming to the E.S. Most likely area just north of DC. or Northern VA. They need a community with a technical workforce to draw from. There is nothing here at all on the shore that would attract Amazon here.
