Virginia fairground becomes a makeshift hospital

President Trump has been urged to visit a country fairground in Virginia which has become a makeshift hospital to deal with the US health care crisis.

As Republican officials continue to grumble over Obamacare, the reality on the ground is stark - people camping overnight to be first in line for free treatment at a pop-up outdoor medical center.

Hundreds of desperate patients, some in their 90s, traveled miles to be seen to by doctors who used animal stalls, articulated lorries and barns to carry out examinations and treatment.

Pictures show rows of people lying in beds being treated by doctors walking on dirty tarmac and it was described by one charity worker as a scene that might be expected in countries such as Sudan.

  1. Doesn't seem like something that should be happening in the "greatest country in the world" does it?

  2. Beyond comprehension how screwed up this country really is today, this is going on nationwide. All your churches are sending tremendous resources to third world countries when on fact we are becoming one ourselves and people right here can't afford healthcare and prescription costs but were the greatest country on the planet, NOT

  3. Sensationalized news. Facilities were not nearly as objectionable as described. To compare it to the Sudan is just absurd.
The healthcare crisis started about eight years ago, if memory serves.

  4. I have never understood how this country feels content to send money and doctors and care to third world countries when there are children starving in areas of this country. The dentist that travel around this country is one small answer to some of what this country needs. We need to take care of our country first....isn't that what Trump saids...America First??????

  5. Salisbury Maryland hosted the Mission of Mercy (MOM) Dental Clinic at the Civic Center this Spring.

It doesn't look much better than these pictures. People line up and are treated for free for several days.

I was able to provide manpower in 2015 and it was a blessing to help those who couldn't help themselves.

    1. Imagine what we could do if we just taxed everyone at 90%, because after Government is a model of efficiency. Just look at the DMV.

  7. Wise County, Virginia is in a very poor area in southwestern Virginia. Unfortunately, medical professionals and hospitals do not want to locate in areas like this because they just cannot make any money. It has nothing to do with federal healthcare policies. Only solution would be to heavily susidize.

  8. SW VA, eastern TE,, NW NC have been doing this for YEARS.. Heck, the mention above about the free dentist care in Salisbury, other towns/inner cities across the nation...this has been going on for YEARS!

Now its news??? About the church thing....well that's a entirely different subject - ONLY when it comes to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Remember you can "get" church anywhere, not necessarily in a church and not necessarily for a price!

Nothing against believing/giving/enabling/helping at all - just sayin as it relates to our country/health care, the poor and OUR priorities!

  9. 12:36 PM BS , you haven't a clue. It wasn't like this 8 years ago.
It has always been about money, but that doesn't change what that POS Obama did to this country. You are stupid and blind

  10. SO much for America's private healthcare system being the "greatest" in the world...these fools vote for politicians who literally deny them the same access to healthcare that they have...US healthcare has always been a disgrace compared to the rest of the world but these folks would rather live in ignorance than attempt real reform and kick wall street out of the healthcare system..

  11. It is the greatest in the world as long as you have great insurance and money, lots of money.

  12. While I am not a fan of Obamacare the only thing he can be held accountable for is lying to the folks and signing the bill. The thing was crafted by the likes of Zeke Emmanual (brother of Rahm) and he and the other architects are the ones who should be held accountable. They have ruined our system and the democrats bought in to it just to claim a victory. Remember, not one Republican voted in favor, not even the RINOS, which should tell you that they could see through the facade.

  13. Any ideas why McCain opted not to be treated in a Veterans hospital?

  14. WAIT ONE MINUTE! Trump has nothing to do with the Democrat debacle of healthcare, LIES about coverage, savings, treatment providers all on the regime of the last 8 years! This unconstitutional Insurance scam is all OBAMA and the DNC.

  15. No it's not a poor county 12:26. The average income is just over $50,000 and unemployment just a fraction over 3%.
This is ALL about Obamacare so lets not try and sugarcoat or make excuses. It's ALL about extremely high deductibles and doctors AND hospitals NOT accepting Obamacare.
Let's not try and make excuses for the debacle of Obamacare and all the lies that worthless POS pathological liar obama told and the rest of the democrats who lie constantly. Democrats are bad people-all of them. Even Shummer can't lie anyone and was forced to admit Obamacare is a disaster.

  16. 2:04 the problem is those who support and supported obama and the democrats are the most ignorant people on earth. Products of nothing more then the dumbed down US "education" system. How many times have we heard the ignoramuses say "we'll now get healthcare?" It wasn't about healthcare but healthcare coverage. All sounds good EXCEPT now many doctors and hospitals don't take the Obamacare insurances which are substandard. Pet insurance companies offer better for less money and lower deductibles.
