A diabetic fired over $1.69 (plus tax) drink and Dollar General must now pay her $277,656.

Jury in EEOC Suit Says Dollar General Must Pay Former Employee Over $277,565 For Disability Discrimination

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A federal jury has found in favor of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in a federal disability discrimination lawsuit against the retail giant Dollar General, the federal agency announced today. EEOC had charged Dollar General with firing a cashier at its Maryville, Tenn., store because of her need to treat her diabetes.

According to EEOC's suit, the cashier, an insulin-dependent diabetic, told her supervisor she was a diabetic and requested on several occasions that her supervisor allow her to keep juice near the register to prevent a hypoglycemic attack. At trial, the cashier testified that her supervisor told her that Dollar General did not allow employees to keep food or drink near the register. Although Dollar General had an accommodation policy that could have allowed the cashier to keep juice near the register, the employees, including management at the Maryville store, did not know about the policy.

While alone in the store one day, the cashier drank orange juice prior to purchase, in violation of Dollar General's "grazing" policy, in response to symptoms of a hypoglycemic attack and to protect the store. As soon as the medical emergency passed, the cashier paid for the bottle of orange juice that cost $1.69 plus tax. Later, the district manager and loss prevention manager appeared in the store to address inventory shrinkage and fired the cashier after she admitted to drinking orange juice prior to purchase. The store fired the employee even though it knew she drank the orange juice because of her diabetes and that she had requested to keep juice near the register.

EEOC filed suit (Civil Action No.3:14-CV-441) in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee) against Dolgencorp, LLC, dba Dollar General Corporation, on Sept. 23, 2014, after first attempting to reach a pre-litigation settlement through its conciliation process. The discrimination victim joined the suit as a plaintiff in her own personal lawsuit on Dec. 18, 2014.

The jury returned a verdict on Friday afternoon for EEOC and the victim, awarding the former cashier $27,565 in back pay and $250,000 in compensatory damages.

JUST IN: Suspect arrested in Cascade Mall shooting; attack may have been random

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- A 20-year-old Oak Harbor, Wash., man was arrested Saturday in the shooting at a Burlington mall that left five people dead.

The man was arrested in Oak Harbor before 7 p.m. Saturday, about 24 hours after the shooting at Cascade Mall that left four females and one male dead.

A highly-placed source tells KING 5 News that there is no apparent connection between the suspect and the victims, leading to the possibility this was a random attack.

The Charlotte Riots: What They Are Not Telling You

As America awaits to see if Charlotte will burn for the third consecutive night, Paul Joseph Watson points out something troubling: thugs burned down a city because a black cop shot someone, yet meanwhile the mainstream media spun it, or at least tried, as as "peaceful protest." There is just one problem: violent criminals looting, attacking bystanders, attacking journalists, setting fires, smashing up cars, smashing up businesses and shooting at each other is not the a "peaceful protest."

And with all of these activities having been documented in the clip below, it is worth pointing out that:
Stealing and looting cash registers from local businesses is not a legitimate form of protest
A “protester” shooting another “protester” is not a legitimate form of protest.
Physically attacking reporters is not a legitimate form of protest.
Throwing rocks off bridges at passing vehicles full of families is not a legitimate form of protest
Beating up innocent people in parking lots because they’re white is not a legitimate form of protest.
Smashing up apartment windows where black people live to “protest” in favor of ‘Black Lives Matter’ is not a legitimate form of protest.
Trashing your own neighborhood is not a legitimate form of protest.
Looting the Charlotte Hornets team store so you can steal basketball merchandise is not a legitimate form of protest
Attempting to hijack cars and terrify their innocent occupants is not a legitimate form of protest.

What was unfolding in Charlotte - and may still be - is not a protest. It’s a violent, unjustified riot by criminals and thugs. The question is why is the media giving it legitimacy by still referring to it as a protest?

As Watson points out, if mobs of white supremacists were looting stores, setting fires, attacking journalists and shooting guns, would the media call it a protest?

What is most disturbing is that behind the pent up rage and thuggish violence, dressed up in the socially-acceptable package of "black lives matter" is the reality that white violence is the last thing blacks should be "protesting."

Four Powerboats Added To Cruisin Parade

OCEAN CITY — The grand spectacle of offshore powerboat racing returns to Ocean City in early October and this time race enthusiasts will have the opportunity to view the powerful boats up close and personal with a handful participating in the annual Endless Summer Cruisin’ parade on the Boardwalk.

Offshore powerboat racing has been a staple of the resort’s shoulder seasons off and on for the last decade or so with the Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (OPA) making stops in the resort as part of its summer-long racing series. Because of the timing of the summer season in Ocean City and the need to close off a vast area of ocean to accommodate the racing, the OPA typically puts its Ocean City stop near the end of its schedule and this year is no different.

Over the weekend of Oct. 7-9, the OPA will host its penultimate event of the summer series with the Ocean City Grand Prix in advance of the world championships in Florida a week later. Event headquarters are located in West Ocean City in and around the public boat ramp at the harbor with public viewings, meet and greets with the racers and the associated events at the race village. However, as an added twist this year, as many as four offshore powerboats will be added to the parade on Saturday, Oct. 8, on the Boardwalk as part of the Endless Summer Cruisin’ event, which takes place the same weekend

Shapiro At Yale: 'Diversity Isn’t Our Strength. Decency Is Our Strength.'

On Wednesday night, Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro spoke at Yale University, and wasted no time in attacking the university for its pusillanimous behavior regarding political correctness, eliciting a standing ovation at the conclusion of the speech.

Shapiro, who has been battling laryngitis for a couple of weeks, began by joking and prompting laughter as he stated, “Thank you so much for having me; my mother will finally be pleased that I got to Yale … brief note: if my voice seems to be going out, if I start hacking up a lung, it’s just because I watched Hillary Clinton fall down on YouTube and it’s so contagious that that alone seems to have affected me.”

Entry Deadline Announced For Berlin’s Annual Christmas Parade

BERLIN — Berlin’s 46th Annual Christmas Parade will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. The parade rain date is Dec. 8. The parade officially kicks off numerous Christmas events scheduled for December in Berlin. This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Dreams”.

The parade is sponsored by the Berlin Main Street program, in cooperation with the merchants of the town. All costs of conducting the parade are covered by donations from Berlin area merchants and entry fees. Due to the increased costs, most categories will be asked to pay a small entry fee of $10. Commercial entries will cost $25.

Due to time constraints, this year’s parade will be limited to 80 entries. Entries are reminded that the parade route will be the same as last year. To alleviate congestion during the line-up of the entries, there will be two entry points. Entrants will be contacted the week of the parade with a line-up number and entry points. Berlin town staff and volunteers will be located along the route and specific spots to direct entries to their line-up number. The parade will commence at the corner of Powellton Avenue and Main Street and conclude at the corner of South Main Street and Tripoli Street.

Haitian immigrants cross border through Mexico, claim asylum for quick processing and entry

Haitian immigrants are surging across America’s southwest border, blazing a path through Mexico to the U.S., where they have been coached to claim asylum, earning them quick processing and almost immediate entry into the country.

Analysts called it a backdoor amnesty that’s increasingly being abused by illegal immigrants who normally would have no shot of staying in the U.S., but who, by claiming asylum, can gain a foothold here. The Haitians are the latest to discover the route, likely encouraged by smugglers who stand to make thousands of dollars from each migrant they transport through Mexico and up to the U.S. land border.

A video obtained by Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican, which originated with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, shows Haitians massing outside of a Mexican detention facility on that country’s border with Guatemala, ahead of what analysts said was likely a long journey north to the U.S.

“It’s a method for backdoor entry that presents a real exposure, because it’s virtually open to anyone to enter the U.S. without any real scrutiny or undergoing the regular process,” said Joe Kasper, chief of staff to Mr. Hunter. “The fact that 300 Haitians show up in Mexico and from that point are virtually guaranteed entry into the U.S. underscores one of many major problems with the president’s immigration policy — and Americans need to recognize it.”

OC’s Newest Beach Play Structure Needs Exterior Repair

OCEAN CITY — Months after it was added as a new play structure on the beach at Somerset Street, Wally the Whale apparently is already in need of a facelift.

Last January, the Mayor and Council approved Wally the Whale as the newest addition to the downtown beach at Somerset Street adjacent to the Boardwalk area. The play structure includes a whale’s head emerging from the sand on one end and its tail protruding from the beach at the other end. It includes barnacle-like fixtures on the head and tail, allowing kids and presumably adults, to climb on the structure.

The newest addition to the beach toy collection on the beach in the downtown area was installed this spring, but after a full summer under its belt, it already needs some rehabilitation. During his report on the Recreation and Parks Committee meeting last week, Councilman Dennis Dare told the Mayor and Council on Monday the whale structure was due for a renovation after just a few months in the often harsh beach conditions.

Legal Rebellion in Michigan Over Refugees Could Help Trump Win State

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson intends to file an injunction calling for a temporary ban on the resettlement of all refugees in his Michigan county.

Patterson broke the news on the Frank Beckmann Show, on WJR radio in Detroit.

“I’ve brought in my legal team from the county, and we’re about to sue them [the federal government] to get an injunction to stop them from relocating more people into this community until the rules are adhered to,” Patterson told Beckmann.

“The federal law could not be more specific,” Patterson continued.

“It wasn’t you [the federal government] may want to inform local county officials” about resettling refugees in their jurisdiction, the county executive added. “It says you shall inform the local county officials.” (emphasis added)

Maryland Well-Represented In New African American Museum

WASHINGTON (AP) — Although the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture opens Saturday in the heart of Washington, its neighboring state of Maryland has a strong presence.

From a freed slave house in Montgomery County to photographs of Baltimore’s unrest after Freddie Gray’s death, Maryland’s black experience throughout history is broadly represented. According to the museum’s online collection, Maryland was in the top 15 states with the most artifacts.

Artifacts from Maryland on display include an early 1800s stone slave auction block from Hagerstown, a paper cutter from the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper and a copy of the book “This Child’s Gonna Live” by Maryland-born Sarah E. Wright, who portrayed the lives of a black family set by the state’s Eastern Shore.

Paul Gardullo, a curator at the museum, said it’s crucial to reflect the “deeply important” history of Maryland to African-American life.

"The System Is Rigged, Racist" Don King Urges "Black People Need Donald Trump"

"Everybody counts," explained boxing promoter Don King to an African-American church, stating that "every white woman should cast their vote for Donald Trump." But then King took it to '11' as he raged "the system is corrupt; the system is rigged; the system is sexist; the system is racist," concluding that “we need Donald Trump to create a new system - especially black people.”

As black American consumer comfort plunges most in 4 years...

It appears Donald Trump is making some progres in the massive lead Hillary Clinton has among the African-American community. As The Hill reports, boxing promoter Don King appealed to both black Americans and white women...

"When the system was created ... the white woman did not have the rights, and she still don't have the rights. And people of color don't have their rights. ... Donald Trump says no, we're going back to inclusiveness. Everybody counts. Every white woman should cast their vote for Donald Trump."

King's appeal to female voters comes as Trump seeks to close the gap among this voter bloc, which has largely flocked to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Liberal College Administration Shuts Down “America” Themed BBQ

Students at Ramapo College were going to have an American themed BBQ co-sponsored by College Republicans and the College Democrats, but were forced to change the theme because the administration deemed it too “offensive.”

According to emails obtained by Campus Reform, Ariana Rivera, the Assistant Residence Director of Bischoff Hall sent an email to the two student groups, inviting them to set up tables at the BBQ Bischoff and Mackin Halls to promote their organizations as well as encourage students to register to vote.

On September 14, two days before the scheduled event, Rivera wrote to President Taylor Gilson of the College Republicans telling her that Bischoff Hall would no longer be co-sponsoring with the CRs because the American theme was “considered offensive.”

Gilson responded to the email asking why the American theme was considered offensive, and if the “offensive” concerns came from students or the administration.

In Dramatic Twist, Wells Fargo Said To Retaliate, Fire Whistleblowers Who Exposed Bank's Illegal Practices

While the recent congressional hearing targeting John Stumpf, in which Elizabeth Warren suggested he should resign and be criminally charged, was nothing more than a "kangaroo court" meant to refocus public anger on banks, with good reason, the reason why we concluded that nothing would actually change is that ultimately there was no evidence the bank's executive management was aware of the bank's illegal, fraudulent tactics involving the creation of some 2 million fake customer accounts to "sandbag" retail banking fees. That assumption, however, may need revision now that CNN reportsthat it has heard from former Wells Fargo workers - some of whom were named - around the country, who tried to put a stop to the bank's illegal tactics only to be met with harsh, prompt and severe retaliation by the bank.

"Almost half a dozen workers who spoke with us say they paid dearly for trying to do the right thing: they were fired", CNN says, which if confirmed would promptly make this a criminal case, which implicate virtually every senior management member, as such retaliatory practices would suggest not only awareness of what was happening at the bank, but also an even more dramatic response by management seeking to keep these practices under wraps.

Some of the named witnesses made it very clear that the narrative spun by Stumpf in Senate was a lie:

"I endured harsh bullying ... defamation of character, and eventually being pinned for something I didn't do," said Heather Brock, who was fired earlier this month as a senior business banker at a Wells Fargo branch in Round Rock, Texas.

"They ruined my life," Bill Bado, a former Wells Fargo banker in Pennsylvania, told CNNMoney.

Bado not only refused orders to open phony bank and credit accounts. The New Jersey man called an ethics hotline and sent an email to human resources in September 2013, flagging unethical sales activities he was being instructed to do. Eight days after that email, a copy of which CNNMoney obtained, Bado was terminated. The stated reason? Tardiness.

Council approves pension contribution for resort staff

Ocean City government will be contributing slightly less to its employees’ pensions in fiscal year 2017, despite some reversals in its investments.

Finance Administrator Martha Bennett told the City Council this week that Ocean City did see some investment reductions this year, but the slight dip in percentages of both the public safety and general employees’ pension funds’ current values is no cause for alarm.

“The funding for general employees’ plan dropped from 88.5 percent to 87.8 percent and for the public safety employees plan, it went from 93 percent to 92.3 percent. So it was a very modest change,” she said.

Ocean City determines contributions to its pension plans each year through an actuarial study, which examines the resort’s employee base and estimates what the cost will be to support that number of people after they retire. Differences between what the city currently has in its trust funds and its estimated future liability are paid off via contributions over several years.

Stone Mountain More Syrian Refugees Than LA And NYC Combined

Stone Mountain, Georgia — a city with just over 6,000 residents and a poverty rate well above the national average — has resettled more Syrian refugees than Los Angeles and New York City combined.

Since October 1 (the start of the fiscal year), 72 Syrian refugees have been placed in Stone Mountain, State Department data shows. Los Angeles has resettled just 45 Syrian refugees, while NYC has only resettled nine.

Syrians aren’t the only refugees placed in Stone Mountain this year. Since October 1, 299 refugees have been resettled in the Georgia town. That’s roughly five percent of Stone Mountain’s July, 2015 population (6,109, according to U.S. Census data).

The largest group of refugees are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which had 83 refugees placed in Stone Mountain.

Judge Napolitano: Loss of liberty does not make you safer, America

The clash in American history between liberty and safety is as old as the republic itself. As far back as 1798, notwithstanding the lofty goals and individualistic values of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the same generation -- in some cases the same human beings -- that wrote in the First Amendment that “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech” enacted the Alien and Sedition Acts, which punished speech critical of the government.

Similarly, the Fifth Amendment’s guarantee of due process has been ignored by those in government charged with enforcing it when they deal with a criminal defendant whom they perceive the public hates or fears. So it should come as no surprise that no sooner had the suspect in the recent New Jersey and New York City bombings been arrested than public calls came to strip him of his rights, send him to Gitmo and extract information from him. This is more Vladimir Putin than James Madison.

I have often argued that it is in times of fear -- whether generated by outside forces or by the government itself -- when we need to be most vigilant about protecting our liberties. I make this argument because when people are afraid, it is human nature for them to accept curtailment of their liberties -- whether it be speech or travel or privacy or due process -- if they become convinced that the curtailment will keep them safe. But these liberties are natural rights, integral to all rational people and not subject to the government’s whim.

I can sacrifice my liberties, and you can sacrifice yours, but I cannot sacrifice yours; neither can a majority in Congress sacrifice yours or mine.

$55K Air Transport Bill Raises Industry Concerns; Local Family Hopes ‘Price Gouging At Its Worst’ Will Raise Awareness

BERLIN — When a Berlin child with a critical illness was flown to a Baltimore hospital last October, her parents did not know that 45-minute flight was the beginning of a nearly year-long journey including a battle with the private sector air ambulance service over exorbitant fees and a multi-pronged effort at reform.

Last Oct. 10, life changed quickly for Berlin residents Steve and Jayme Isett when the couple’s then-5-year-old daughter Sarah was flown from Atlantic General in Berlin to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore in critical condition with acute renal failure. Sarah was taken to AGH when she complained of not feeling well and after a battery of tests on the child, it was determined she needed specialized care for a critical condition provided by only a handful of hospitals in the region.

In order for Sarah to receive immediate healthcare from a pediatric nephrologist, the emergency room doctor at AGH made arrangements with the private-sector Air Methods Corporation to fly the child via helicopter to Hopkins in Baltimore. Hopkins Hospital’s regular non-profit vendor was on another call and not available, so the AGH doctor made arrangements with Air Methods to transport Sarah to Baltimore in those critical, but potentially life-changing moments.

What the Isetts didn’t know in those critical moments is that the 45-minute helicopter flight from Berlin to Baltimore would cost them $55,000, or roughly the same amount as her entire three-week stay at Hopkins including the operating room and the intensive care unit.

The Average Federal Employee Is Compensated $123,160

The average federal employee compensation is $123,160 per year, according to a new study by the Cato Institute.

The study shows two major trends: the first being that there is a staggering differential in federal pay and benefits packages and private sector pay and benefits packages; the second being that the differential between these two groups is now growing even larger. It uses Bureau of Economic Analysis data to reach its conclusions.

Currently, the federal government employs around 2.4 million Americans. Since the 1990s, federal employees have outstripped private sector growth rates in compensation and benefits packages, the study reports.

In 2015 alone, federal employee compensation was $123,160, a figure 76 percent more than that paid to private sector counterparts, who received $69,901 on average. Looking at the 2015 numbers, average earnings for the 112 million private sector employees in the U.S. labor-force was just $58,726, according to Cato findings.

Doctor suggests Hillary Clinton's apparent eye problems could be result of fall in 2012

A retired Texas surgeon has written an article postulating that Hillary Clinton's erratic eye movements during a Philadelphia speech are an indication she could be suffering from pressure on a nerve inside her skull – and that the condition is linked to a fall she suffered in 2012.

The ultimate effect of the fall, he writes, may have been constricted blood flow to the brain - which could explain both apparent erratic eye movements observed this week, and her collapse at New York's 9/11 memorial earlier this month.

'If, as is statistically likely, Clinton's transverse sinus is still blocked, she would still have increased pressure and swelling and decreased blood flow to her brain,' write Dr. John Coppedge in The Hill.

'That swelling would place pressure on the exposed portion of the sixth cranial nerve at the base of her brain, explaining the apparent lateral rectus palsy,' he writes.

"It is a great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible and he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual, he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions."

39 Volunteer Fire Departments Receive $89,025 in Funding

The Maryland Department of Natural Resourcesannounced the recipients of the 2016 Volunteer Fire Assistance Program grants, which provide financial and technical assistance to rural volunteer fire departments and their communities.

This year, the department awarded $89,025 to 39 volunteer fire departments in 12 Maryland counties.

“These funds are essential to help outfit our brave volunteer firefighters across the state,” Maryland Fire Supervisor Monte Mitchell said. “They provide fire departments with much needed equipment, training and vehicles for wildland firefighting before the start of the fall fire season.”

The grants, provided by the United States Forest Service, and administered by the Maryland Forest Service, help build-out capacity for wildland fire protection in rural areas. This year, 53 fire departments from 19 counties applied for just over $250,000.

Troopers Investigating fatal Motor Vehicle Crash – Milford

Milford, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a 55 year old Milford man.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred on Friday, September 23, 2016, at approximately 6:39 p.m., as Gary L. Ingram, 55, was operating a 2012 Kenworth 999 flatbed tow truck and was traveling in a southbound direction on Bay Road (US 113) south of Cicada Lane, Milford. For an unknown reason the tow truck gradually travelled off of the west edge of the roadway where the right side mirror and right corner of the flatbed struck a steel sign. The truck continued traveling in a southbound direction where it then struck a group of trees before coming to rest.

Gary Ingram, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by Kent County Paramedics. He was then transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Neither alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor in this crash.

Bay Road was closed for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Editor's Note: Gary Ingram was the son of former Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner

On September 21 a driver whose path forward was blocked by Charlotte protesters was allowed to move through after showing he had a gun with him.

The protesters were out in reaction of the officer involved shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. PBS reports that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney reports that Scott was armed at the time of the shooting.

According to the Daily Mail, at one point during the protest a driver’s path was blocked by protesters in the road. The driver brandished a gun, and Heather Head observed he was able to pass through. Head wrote: “White dude drives into crowd of peaceful protesters, draws gun, allowed to drive away alive. With my own eyes.”

Anatomy of Chaos: Democrat Mayor in Charlotte Turned Down State Law Enforcement Resources Hours Before Riots

Charlotte’s Democratic mayor Jennifer Roberts decided against accepting an offer made by North Carolina’s GOP governor Pat McCrory for additional state law enforcement resources long before the situation spiraled out control on Wednesday night, Breitbart News has learned.

Multiple sources have confirmed to Breitbart News—as well as other media—that Governor McCrory had offered Roberts state law enforcement resources that could have protected the city of Charlotte as early as 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but she didn’t take the offer.

Doctor: Hillary's "Abnormal Eye Movements" Hint At Serious Health Issues

In 2014 Conan O'Brien did a spoof of Hillary Clinton's interview with Diane Sawyer about her lack of lingering health issues following her 2012 concussion. In an obviously photoshopped version Clinton's eyes are made to oscillate crazily.

It was a very funny piece. Now, it may not seem so funny.

Hillary Clinton exhibited abnormal eye movements during her recent speech in Philadelphia and they were not photoshopped.

Her eyes did not always move in the same direction at the same time. It appears that she has a problem with her left sixth cranial nerve. That nerve serves only one function and that is to make the lateral rectus muscle contract. That muscle turns the eye in the direction away from the midline.

It comes out of the base of the brain and runs along the floor of the skull, immediately beneath the brain before coursing upward to the eye. Dysfunction of that muscle causes the striking picture of the eyes not aiming in the same direction and causes the patient to suffer double vision.

Like all things medical, there is a long list of potential causes but in my opinion the most likely one, based on Clinton's known medical history is an intermittent lateral rectus palsy caused by damage to or pressure on her sixth cranial nerve.

Ocean City catches flack for school after Labor Day

Criticism singling out Ocean City business interests as the impetus behind Gov. Larry Hogan’s executive order changing the public school starting date stunned local industry representatives, judging from comments at the Sept. 12 Ocean City Tourism Commission meeting.

Press reports of Hogan’s Aug. 31 Boardwalk media event declaring a post-Labor Day start for Maryland public schools next year included comments from opponents who accused the governor of putting Ocean City’s tourism interests before the educational needs of Maryland children.

Commission member Michael James, president of Hospitality Partners and managing partner of the Carousel Group, said he was surprised by reports questioning Hogan’s decision to go around the Maryland General Assembly, which earlier this year killed a bill that attempted to change the school year calendar.

“I’ve been surprised by the criticism,” he said. “The press has been negative.”

Charlotte Is a Democrat Problem, Not America's Problem

According to the most recent North Carolina data I could find, the poverty rate in Watauga County is 31.3%. In Mecklenburg County, the poverty rate is 15.4%. These numbers are two years-old, but however they might have changed, I think it is safe to say they haven't changed all that much.

Charlotte is in Mecklenburg Country and, thanks to two nights of race riots, currently smoldering.

Boone, where I live, is in Watauga County, and life here is peaceful and idyllic.

In other words, the poverty rate where I live in North Carolina is twice that of Charlotte, and we don’t riot.

Poverty obviously doesn't cause rioting, so what does?

Liars on the Left and in their corrupt mainstream media might tell you that riots are caused by racist cops gunning down innocent black men.

Polls: Donald Trump Pulls Away In Iowa and Georgia, Ties Hillary Clinton In Colorado, Closes Gap In Virginia

NEW YORK CITY, New York — Just a few days before the all-important first debate, Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump has pulled a whopping seven points ahead of Democratic nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton in the all-important battleground state of Iowa.

The new Quinnipiac University poll of 612 likely Iowa voters finds Donald Trump, at 44 percent, beating Clinton’s mere 37 percent well outside the margin of error of 4 percent. Libertarian Gary Johnson gets 10 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein gets 2 percent. That poll was conducted from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21.

“Donald Trump is running better in Iowa than other Midwestern states and that shows in his lead in this poll. He has a slight lead among independent voters, but his margin there may be heavily tied to demographics. Iowa, with a voting bloc that is overwhelmingly white, lacks the kind of large minority population that has fueled Hillary Clinton’s lead in some of the large industrial states,” Assistant Director of the Quinnipiac Poll Peter Brown said.

LEGENDARY COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 9-24-16

The Sport Coat

Back in 1972 I worked at Ralph & Gaskill’s Men’s Store in Salisbury. From when I started there in 1968 I learned a lot about merchandising and the operation of a retail store. I eventually became the manager of and buyer for the Stag Shop. This was located on the second floor of the downtown store and catered to the teen crowd. I developed a good following of both boys and girls. Realizing that a boy’s size 16 would fit a girl that usually wore a size 7, I pointed out that the boys shirts were only $7 and were made much better, if they didn’t mind having to button them the opposite of what they were used to. The same held true with the very poplar jeans of the era. A simple tuck at the waist of a pair of 29-29 jeans and you had a perfect size 7.

The days of the Stag Shop ended when the new Mall was built on Civic Avenue. It also ended my dream job. I lost my manager’s position and became a salesman on the floor at the Mall. Two big differences were the hours were much different and so was the pay ($1.00 an hour plus 6% commission). Being a commission salesman was not what I envisioned for my future. Being the “young guy”, they would put me at the front of the store where I only had a chance to sell socks and underwear. The big ticket items, such as suits and sport coats were in the back.

Well, we had moved the entire Stag Shop inventory to the Mall so I was very familiar with it, since I had bought it in the first place.

One night, this smallish man came in and wanted a sport coat. He didn’t look very impressive but I decided to give him my best effort. There was a nice wool sport coat that had been in inventory for about four years but, since it came from the Stag Shop, it was a size 36 and cut a bit smaller than a regular men’s cut. I tried it on him and it fit perfectly. He said it was fine and that was what he wanted. So, I took the coat up to the counter and asked the man if it would be a cash or credit transaction. He said he would have to take it home to get his wife’s approval and he would let me know. I explained that I couldn’t just let him have the coat and he said “Clem (Mr. Gaskill) always let him take something home for his wife’s approval”. I figured if he knew Mr. Gaskill he must be O.K. to charge. After all, the coat had been marked down to only $28.00, so I wouldn’t be taking that much of a risk. I told him that it was all right for him to take it home for her approval, but I would need a name to keep track of the coat. When he told me it was A. W. Perdue, I nearly died. He could have afforded anything in the store and I sold him the least expensive sport coat we had. But he looked good in it and it fit him great. At least I got that satisfaction. Needless to say, his wife liked the coat and he kept it. A small sale, but better than the guy I spent two hours with and dragged out about $250.00 worth of merchandise before the office said his credit was kaput and I had to put everything back. That was retailing – good days and bad days.

DEBATE RULES: NO COUGHING BREAKS

If presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton slips into a coughing fit or any other medical crisis during Monday's high-stakes debate, she will have to power through, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!

"There are no commercial breaks," a commission source explains. "Period."

Debate moderator Lester Holt does not have the authority to cut away from the stage during the epic 90-minute showdown. And microphone audio for either of the candidates is not to be manipulated.

Clinton has experienced severe coughing episodes throughout the election year. During a Labor Day campaign stop she suffered a 4-minute choking marathon.

Monday's throwdown could top out at 100 million viewers, making it the biggest political event in history.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The presidential debate commission settled an early flashpoint when Clinton demanded a step-stool at the podium to add height to her 5'4" frame. Campaign Chairman John Podesta expressed concern that Hillary would be dwarfed by 6'2" Trump. The request was quickly rejected. The commission is allowing for a custom-made podium, which will accommodate the difference in stature.

State Department reveals FBI uncovered 2,800 emails Clinton never turned over

The State Department said Friday it likely has more than 2,800 new emails former Secretary Hillary Clinton never turned over but were recovered by the FBI, and will begin releasing them in batches beginning next month.

But only a small percentage will be processed before the election, the department said in court, arguing its resources are stretched too thin to get them done.

All told, the FBI turned over 15,171 emails it recovered that involved Mrs. Clinton, and of those about 60 percent have been deemed purely personal. That leaves some 5,600 that are work-related, but based on a sample of data, nearly half of those are duplicates, leaving the 2,800 or so that are new.

Of those, the department was ordered to process 350 pages by Oct. 7, another 350 by Oct. 21 and a third set of 350 pages by Nov. 4 — the final set before the election. Processing means the department will review them and determine what parts can be released, if any. It does not mean the public will see that many pages released.

Indeed, at most the department will produce only 10 percent of the new documents before the election.

“The State Department is being obstructionist,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, whose organization has sued to get a look at Mrs. Clinton’s messages.

Hillary Sponsored Secretive Program that Destabilized Middle East

The U.S. State Department under the leadership of Secretary Hillary Clinton continued a program to embolden foreign, revolutionary, social media activists to agitate for regime change in various parts of the world. The program arguably had major, detrimental consequences for the trajectory of the Middle East.

Recent leaks show a memo that top Clinton aide Huma Abedin sent to her boss stating, “I’m giving you credit for inspiring the ‘peaceful’ protests,” with regard to Egypt, with quotation marks around the word “peaceful.”

The United States government is believed to have utilized a program called the Alliance of Youth Movements Summit, co-founded by a close Hillary Clinton adviser, to provide networking opportunities for an activist plotting to overthrow Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak several years before the “Arab Spring” protests that led to widespread regime change in the Middle East.

Through the Alliance of Youth Movements Summit, the U.S. learned that the Muslim Brotherhood was supportive of a plan to overthrow Mubarak. The U.S.-supported Muslim Brotherhood later briefly ruled Egypt after Mubarak’s ouster.

Emerson College Poll: Clinton 45%, Trump 39% in Illinois

The latest poll from Emerson College shows Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by only six points in Illinois, where Barack Obama won by over 16 points against Mitt Romney in 2012.

Emerson has the race at Clinton 45%, Trump 39% in a four-way race. Libertarian Gary Johnson received 6% support in Illinois, while the Green Party’s Jill Stein pulled 3%. Seven percent of respondents said they were undecided.

Emerson’s most recent national poll showed Trump just slightly ahead of Clinton, 43% to 41%, well inside the poll’s 3.4% margin of error. This was also a four-way survey, in which Johnson drew 9% and Stein had 2% support.

The Illinois poll discovered an interesting situation in which Trump held a strong 49% to 27% lead with independent voters, but Clinton was 11 points ahead with voters who supported John Kasich in the Republican primary.

NAACP Leader Speaking Against Cops In Charlotte Financed By George Soros

As riots continue to plague Charlotte, North Carolina after a police shooting there, Rev. William Barber, president of the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP, has taken center stage in helping to shape the public narrative by commenting on the issue in the news media.

Not only is the NAACP heavily financed by Soros to the tune of millions of dollars, Barber himself was singled out in a hacked document from the billionaire’s Open Society Institute as part of the rationale for offering a local grant to the NAACP’s North Carolina branch, Breitbart News has found.

The memo states that the NAACP’s North Carolina chapter “advances several key OSI (Open Society Institute) priorities,” and describes Barber himself as a “dynamic leader, catalytic speaker, and builder of powerful and diverse alliances.”

On Thursday, Barber participated in a news conference where he demanded, “We all stand together declaring there must be transparency and the videos must be released.”

Obama used a pseudonym in emails with Clinton, FBI documents reveal

President Barack Obama used a pseudonym in email communications with Hillary Clinton and others, according to FBI records made public Friday.

The disclosure came as the FBI released its second batch of documents from its investigation into Clinton’s private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

The 189 pages the bureau released includes interviews with some of Clinton’s closest aides, such as Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills; senior State Department officials; and even Marcel Lazar, better known as the Romanian hacker “Guccifer.”

In an April 5, 2016 interview with the FBI, Abedin was shown an email exchange between Clinton and Obama, but the longtime Clinton aide did not recognize the name of the sender.

"Once informed that the sender's name is believed to be pseudonym used by the president, Abedin exclaimed: 'How is this not classified?'" the report says. "Abedin then expressed her amazement at the president's use of a pseudonym and asked if she could have a copy of the email."

Klayman: Stop 'Race War' By Stopping Groups' Funding

A group led by Freedom Watch founder Larry Klayman is suing several people and groups regarding the anti-police movement that is sweeping across the country.

Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama, Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, Black Lives Matter, the New Black Panther Party, George Soros, and others are all listed as defendants in the lawsuit.

Klayman appeared on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live" and spoke with host J.D. Hayworth about the suit.

"We're seeking to have the court order it to stop, and we're seeking large damages, much like people talk about bombing the oil wells of ISIS to cut off the financial flow," Klayman said. "If we cut off the financial flow of money to these groups, who are starting a race war for their own political purposes to destroy this country and build it back in their socialist and atheist and other image, then we can stop this."

Taxing the System By Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver

How many times have you heard the phrase – “Well that’s just how we’ve always done it...”? It’s not an expression I enjoy hearing. And since I’ve been elected County Executive, I’ve heard that expression a lot.

Take the way we handle delinquent taxes owed on a property. The county has always mailed a bill in early July and the taxpayer has until the following June to pay their taxes in full. If they don’t pay their taxes in full, then the property could be sold at a tax sale.
But surprisingly, little to no effort is made throughout the year to collect those taxes.

Think about that for a minute. When you have an overdue bill, don’t you get several letters from your creditor reminding you to pay? You might even get a phone call to remind you that the bill is due and suggestions on how to conveniently pay the bill.

But in Wicomico County, this was rarely if ever done. Until this year. Our new Finance Director, Leslie Lewis, has been reaching out to our delinquent taxpayers and through letters and phone calls, and has had some astounding success in actually collecting that money.

One commercial property owner has finally paid all delinquent taxes for the first time in over a decade. And many county residents have been appreciative of that effort and have been paying their taxes. So to date, we have collected $3.6 million more in real estate taxes than this time last year.

So I canceled the tax sale this year. That one decision alone has saved the county a lot of taxpayer money. Now there will be those who object to this and I understand that. Some people made a lot of money off the tax sale. One local newspaper made more than $75,000 just in advertising. Lots of investors, mostly attorneys from across the Chesapeake Bay, made lots of money buying up debt that they then usually sold back to the same taxpayers with a nice hefty amount of interest attached. If any municipality wants to have their own tax sale, to recoup taxes owed their town, they are welcome to do so.

All of these delinquent properties are still for sale, by the way. Anyone can go to the County Finance Office website and see which properties are for sale and purchase them at the Finance Office downtown. For some reason, the county hadn’t offered this option, so the tax sale was the only way investors were able to buy up these properties, in many cases for way less than what they were worth.
By law, the county has to have a tax sale on delinquent properties at least every two years, so one will certainly be scheduled for next June. But until then, this county will continue to reach out to those taxpayers who are struggling financially and try and help them avoid losing their homes.

Worcester Drug Court backs ‘Adopt Your Street’ program

Rehab participants to pick up trash off St. Louis Ave.
for Md. Coastal Bays effort

With few residents and businesses stepping forward to volunteer for the “Adopt Your Street” neighborhood cleaning initiative, Worcester County’s Drug Treatment Court has laid claim to St. Louis Avenue as part of its rehabilitation program.

“We’ve done clean-up programs for community service with the drug court a couple times in the past,” said Sandi Smith, the marketing and development coordinator of Maryland Coastal Bays Program, which organized the arrangement.

This guarantees four other cleanups at St. Louis Avenue, she said.

On the heels of the Ocean City Surf Club’s successful Adopt Your Beach program, Coastal Bays decided to resuscitate its litter collection initiative. But while Adopt Your Beach appealed to vacationers for a short-term commitment down by the water, Adopt Your Street has been struggling to draw participants.

Shrill, Angry, Poorly Dressed Woman Wonders Why She Isn't Running Away With 2016 Election

Geez, it’s a real mystery why the wide-eyed hectoring pol who feels entitled to the presidency that people don’t trust or like is not running away with this thing! I mean, leave aside her antipathy for the First and Second Amendment and her complete and utter inability to relate to average people: don’t you know she’s a “style icon”?

Hard to disagree with that. It’s really tough to figure out my favorite Hillary look. Who can forget Burlap Sack, from The Derelicte Collection?

Stylish and functional! It’s good that she was dressed up to withstand the heat of the Earth’s molten core; after all, anything above a scorching 75 degrees or so puts her at risk of fainting. All that foil and that not-at-all-ridiculous-or-awful collar will help deflect the glare of the lights.

How could this beacon of light possibly lose? She’s just so great and Trump is just so terrible—the late night talk shows say this all the time, so it must be true and their echo chamber is definitely not backfiring at all. People are definitely NOT tired of being told that Hillary is the best and that they’re racist, deplorable yokels for supporting Donald Trump.

No Major Incidents From This Year’s BikeFest Event, But 133 Citations Issued For Illegal Trailer Parking

OCEAN CITY — While there were the typical complaints regarding noise and traffic, resort officials this week said OC BikeFest last week was a success and the new ordinance on trailer and oversized vehicle parking certainly appeared to achieve the desired results.

Over 150,000 motorcyclists roared into the resort starting mid-week last week for OC BikeFest, bringing with them the requisite noise and traffic. The event, criticized in some circles, also put thousands of heads in beds and patrons in restaurant seats and had a direct impact on Ocean City’s room tax and sales tax bottom line.

It’s a fine line tiptoed by the resort, which continues to strive for an improved quality of life for its residents and visitors, while helping to balance the books on the back of offseason special events. While there was the typical criticism of some facets of the event, Mayor Rick Meehan said this week OC BikeFest largely went off without a hitch.

“We had a very busy weekend and I think it went extremely well,” he said on Monday. “I think the police department had a good plan in place and I thank you for that. I don’t know of any serious incidents and with all of the people in town and all of the motorcycles, I think it went very well. The extra police presence certainly helped us.”

Rioting in Charlotte without context

Charlotte is the conversation we’re getting about race in America, with rioting, death and looting, encouraged by the noise of the mob, the purple rhetoric of certain newspapers, bloody mayhem on the television screen, and encouragement, no doubt unintended, by the president of the United States. It’s a carnival out there, but not much conversation.

The city buttoned down for a third night of violence Thursday, with National Guardsmen joining the thinning blue ranks to impose restraint if not order. The lot of a policeman, nor of anyone else in Charlotte, is not a happy one.

President Obama finally spoke up Thursday. Not the president himself, but his earnest spokesman, Josh Earnest. “The president hopes that the rights of peaceful protesters will be protected,” he said, and added, as if afterthought: “But he also believes that it should be made clear that the protests must remain peaceful, and they should not be used as an excuse to engage in vandalism or violence.”

They wanted to rob the pizza guy. They did not expect a 250-pound, ex-NFL linebacker to deliver the pie.

The plan was simple: Order a pizza, rob whoever showed up to deliver the pie.

But the caper did not go as the four men expected.

That was because Napoleon Harris III, arrived with the pizza in hand. Harris is a man of many hats. Not only has he served as an Illinois state senator since 2013, he is the owner of two Beggars Pizza franchises. One of which, in Harvey, Ill., received a call just before closing time on Sept. 6.

Harris is also 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighs 250 pounds. He was a professional linebacker for several NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings. And he would soon help authorities find suspects in a murder case.

On the Tuesday night in question, 37-year-old ex-footballer told the normal delivery person to head home, deciding to handle any late-night pies himself. A call came, the Daily Southtown reported, to the 15800 block of Paulina Avenue. What Harris did not know was that the house was vacant.
