DB Cooper case 'solved':

FBI tells niece of skyjacking suspect they are ready to close one of America's biggest mysteries after 'matching' fingerprint

The Northwest Airlines notorious skyjacking saga that has baffled authorities for 40 years may have finally been solved.

An Oregon woman who claims her uncle was the elusive criminal known only as DB Cooper says she has been told by the FBI that her evidence is enough for them to close the file on the case.

Burdened by guilt over her knowledge surrounding the case, Marla Cooper came forward earlier this year, claiming she had a 40-year-old family secret protecting her uncle, a man named Lynn Doyle Cooper.

Marla Cooper said she was eight years old when her uncle, whom she called LD Cooper, came to her home, badly injured, for Thanksgiving in 1971 - the day after the infamous incident. He claimed his injuries were the result of a car crash.

Later, she said, her parents came to believe that L.D. Cooper was the hijacker. Mrs Cooper never saw her uncle again after that day and was told he died in 1999.

CLINTON FOR-PROFIT EDUCATION SCANDAL DWARFS TRUMP U

Bill and Hillary made millions while students racked up debt

NEW YORK –
Bill and Hillary Clinton’s attack on Donald Trump over Trump University could invite increased scrutiny of the Clintons’ involvement in a for-profit education scandal in which a company that runs shell colleges paid Bill Clinton $16.5 million to be its pitchman.

While the Clintons were collecting millions, Hillary Clinton’s State Department funneled at least $55 million to a group run by the college company, Laureate Education Inc., according to Peter Schweizer’s book “Clinton Cash” as Breitbart reported.

Clinton abruptly resigned from his post as “honorary chancellor” in April 2015 when the disclosure was publicized.

Documents uncovered by Washington-based watchdog Judicial Watch show Laureate Education paid the former president through a “shell corporation” pass-through account that evidently passed State Department scrutiny while Hillary was secretary of state.

Further, in a story showing how for-profit colleges encourage huge student debt, Forbes found the biggest borrower on the for-profit college list is Laureate Education’s Walden University, whose grad students borrowed $756 million in 2014.

Court quickly halts NC State policy that requires permits for any, all speech

RALEIGH, N.C. – A federal court Saturday ordered a halt to North Carolina State University’s policy that requires a permit for nearly any kind of non-commercial student speech or communication anywhere on campus. The order came only two days after a hearing at which Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys and allied attorneys asked the court to halt the policy after the university told members of a Christian student group that they needed a permit to speak with other students in the student union. The university did not require other student groups to obtain such permit.

“Because the only permit required for free speech on a public university campus is the First Amendment, we welcome the court’s decision to put a stop to NC State’s policy,” said ADF Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer. “NC State is acting inconsistently with its own calling as a marketplace of ideas with this unconstitutional restriction on free speech. Students of any political, religious, or ideological persuasion should be able to freely and peacefully speak with their fellow students about their views without interference from government officials who may prefer one view over another.”

ADF-allied attorney Edmund LaCour of Bancroft PLLC, who is serving as co-counsel in the lawsuit,Grace Christian Life v. Woodson, argued before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina in favor of the preliminary injunction that the court granted. The injunction prohibits the university from enforcing its policy against the non-commercial speech of students and their guests in most situations while the lawsuit moves forward in court.

11,774 Terror Attacks Worldwide in 2015; 28,328 Deaths Due to Terror Attacks

The U.S. State Department's annual Country Reports on Terrorism 2015, released on Thursday, counts 11,774 terrorist attacks in 92 countries last year, but it says that's an improvement over 2014.

"The total number of terrorist attacks in 2015 decreased by 13% and total deaths due to terrorist attacks (28,328) decreased by 14%, compared to 2014," the report says. "This was largely due to fewer attacks and deaths in Iraq, Pakistan, and Nigeria. This represents the first decline in total terrorist attacks and deaths worldwide since 2012."

"Of the 28,328 people killed in terrorist attacks in 2015, 6,924 (24%) were perpetrators of terrorist attacks," the report says. "Perpetrators were killed intentionally in suicide attacks, accidentally while attempting to carry out attacks, or by security forces or victims responding to attacks.

"This is an 11% increase in the number of perpetrator deaths, compared to 2014," says the report.

OCPD Charges Primary Suspect in May 29 Homicide

Released in cooperation with The Office of the Worcester County State’s Attorney.

Darren M. Beattie
OCEAN CITY, MD – (June 7, 2016): After an extensive review of surveillance footage, forensic evidence, multiple witness statements and citizen tips, detectives of the Ocean City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Major Crimes Unit have charged Darren M. Beattie, 21, of Sparrows Point, MD, in the homicide that occurred at 136th Street and Coastal Highway on May 29, 2016.

On May 29, 2016, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Ocean City Police and EMS responded to the area of 136th Street & Coastal Highway in reference to an assault. Ocean City EMS transported the victim, Ryan M. Shupert, 31, of Lutherville Timonium, MD, to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with life-threatening injuries. Shupert succumbed to his injuries and passed away on May 31. Shupert’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland who ruled the death to be a homicide.

With assistance from numerous leads provided by the public, resort detectives were able to tentatively identify the suspect as Beattie. Equipped with this information, detectives travelled to the Dundalk and Sparrow Point neighborhoods of Baltimore County, MD on Saturday, June 4. With support from the Baltimore County Police Department Homicide and Intelligence Units, Ocean City detectives were able to quickly locate and interview Beattie along with other witnesses and involved parties.

Earlier this morning, Tuesday, June 7, detectives applied for and received an arrest warrant for Beattie charging him with manslaughter and 2nd degree assault. Beattie turned himself in to police at the Ocean City Public Safety Building later this afternoon. He is currently being held at the Ocean City Public Safety Building awaiting an initial appearance before a Maryland District Court Commissioner.

While he would not make any substantive comments about a pending case, The State’s Attorney for Worcester County Beau H. Oglesby, commented, “This type of senseless, preventable and tragic situation should serve as a reminder to everyone who finds public fights anywhere in Worcester County acceptable – they’re not. Not only are they unacceptable but people can lose their lives and others can lose their freedom.” He went on to further thank “Detectives James Rodriguez and Brett Case of the Ocean City Police Department for their swift, thorough and professional investigation.”

The Ocean City Police Department would also like to thank the many citizens that called in to provide helpful tips, and the invaluable assistance received from the Baltimore County Police Department. The $200 million Playboy Mansion just sold to its next-door neighbor

The infamous Holmby Hills, California, estate — which listed for a whopping $200 million earlier this year — is now in contract to sell to its next-door neighbor, Daren Metropoulos, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Metropoulos is a principal of the private-equity firm Metropoulos & Co., and a former co-CEO of Pabst Brewing Company. The final selling price for the five-acre property and nearly 20,000-square-foot mansion could not yet be determined.

A Playboy Enterprises representative confirmed the Wall Street Journal's report to Business Insider.

As part of the terms of the sale, Hugh Hefner must be allowed to stay as long as he desires. The estate was sold by Playboy Enterprises, which leases it back to the 90-year-old Hefner.

Here are the richest and poorest towns in Maryland

Financial website 24/7 Wall St. has published lists of the richest and poorest towns — communities with less than 25,000 residents — in each state.

The lists are based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey — namely, five-year estimated median annual household incomes from 2010 through 2014.

Note that college towns — those where more than 40 percent of the population enrolled in an undergrad or graduate program — were not included in the 24/7 Wall St. analysis. That's because the typically low incomes of students tend to skew poverty rates.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz flips, backs payday loan crackdown under pressure from left

Democrats are rushing to embrace the Obama administration’s new rules designed to crack down on short-term “payday” lenders, including even some erstwhile high-profile opponents, as the party’s anti-Wall Street left wing flexes its muscle.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has proposed the rules, which would require short-term lenders to meet standards similar to those for banks, drawing quick praise from the party’s presidential contenders.

More striking, though, were the statements of support from Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Patrick Murphy, two Florida Democrats who previously opposed such a move and sponsored a bill designed to block the payday rules from taking effect.

“As a strong supporter and partner of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Congress, I stand with the CFPB in its efforts to protect Americans from predatory lending,” said Ms. Wasserman Schultz, who is also chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. “From the outset of this process, I have said that I trust the CFPB to do what’s right for consumers, and these proposed rules are an important step towards that critical goal.”

New Report Assesses Maryland’s Coastal Resilience

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources and The Nature Conservancy of Maryland/DC announced today the completion of a Coastal Resiliency Assessment on existing natural features that protect coastal residential communities in the state. The study identified areas that reduce the risk of coastal hazards, and determined priority areas for coastal conservation and restoration activities.

“Our coastal areas host very dynamic and ever-changing landscapes that require innovative tools, technologies and services to address weather-related challenges, such as sea-level rise,” Chesapeake and Coastal Service Director Matthew Fleming said. “The new assessment was developed by us for use by practitioners at the state and local level. It identifies areas most at risk and provides essential data on how best to enhance and improve resiliency.”

Some of the study’s key findings include:
  • Coastal habitats can reduce flooding and erosion impacts, with forests and wetlands playing the greatest roles. These areas significantly protect 22 percent of Maryland’s shoreline.
  • Marshes play a particularly important role in risk-reduction along the Tangier Sound in Somerset County, and the Assawoman Bay and Isle of Wight Bay shorelines in Worcester County.
  • The majority of high risk exposure occurs along the Lower Eastern Shore (Dorchester, Somerset, and Worcester counties).
  • Shoreline hardening, transportation infrastructure, and development prevents habitat from playing a role in protection, most notably on the Western Shore. Hybrid approaches, such as living shorelines that incorporate structural components, may be more appropriate in these areas.

Clinton-backed college seeks cash amid $4.7 billion debt

NEW YORK – The for-profit college with close ties to the Clinton Foundation that paid Bill Clinton through a shell corporation more than $16 million since 2010 to be its “honorary chairman” and international pitchman plans to go public despite some $4.7 billion in corporate debt.

Those who stand the most to gain when Laureate Education goes public include top-name, left-leaning investors attracted by the cache of Bill Clinton’s endorsement such as George Soros, Henry Kravis of Wall Street investment banking firm KKR and Paul Allen of Microsoft fame.

WND reported Bill and Hillary Clinton’s attack on Donald Trump over Trump University could invite increased scrutiny of the Clintons’ involvement in Laureate. While the Clintons were collecting millions, Hillary Clinton’s State Department funneled at least $55 million to a group run by the CEO of the college company, Laureate Education Inc. In addition, attorneys suing Trump U paid $675,000 to the Clintons for speeches, and the firm suing Trump University was founded by a wealthy San Diego lawyer who served a two-year sentence in federal prison for his role in a kickback scheme to mobilize plaintiffs for class-action lawsuits.

A study published by the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in 2012 warned that going public increases the financial pressure to generate a profit. Typically, the relatively small number of first-stage investors that brought the for-profit college as a private entity to the IPO stage are taken out by a larger number of public and institutional investors that anticipate continuing competitive stock appreciation of the public company.

Goodson could face decades in prison for second-degree depraved-heart murder

BALTIMORE —Baltimore police Officer Caesar Goodson could face a maximum of 30 years in prison if he's convicted on a charge rarely seen in Maryland courts -- second-degree depraved-heart murder.

Legal experts say it's murder without premeditation and intent.

"Basically, what we're saying is, 'You acted in such an unreasonable way that we're going to say you're just as guilty as someone who committed outright murder.' That's what second-degree depraved-heart murder is," said Baltimore attorney Adam Ruther, who is not involved in the Goodson case.

Ruther said depraved-heart murder can be considered when there's no evidence that a defendant had intent.

"A normal murder requires the intent to kill, or the intent to do serious bodily harm," Ruther said. "So even though he didn't intend to actually kill anyone or actually harm anyone, but exhibited extreme disregard for human life in the way he acted, then that person can be found guilty of murder under the same theory as the intent to kill."

Christians Told To ‘Pray In Silence… Don’t Disturb The Migrants’

Parishioners visiting a church in Italy were told they must “pray in silence” so as not to disturb African migrants being housed there.

Some of the faithful hoping to practice their Christianity at the church of St. Anthony in Ventimiglia were surprised when they were told by Caritas volunteers they couldn’t recite the rosary and would instead have to pray in silence out of respect to migrants who are living there.

Caritas is ostensibly a Catholic charity, although much of its resources are spent on facilitating mass migration to Europe; the organisation even boasts that it contributes to and seeks to influence European Union (EU) “asylum” policies. Caritas reports that they have been distributing 600 meals a day to migrants in Ventimiglia.

After one of the female parishioners requested that the migrants be taken to another church so that she could recite the rosary, the parish priest, Don Rito, appeared and accompanied her and the other visitors to another church.

Cape handles transgender concerns on case-by-case basis

President Obama's policy to allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice has had no impact on Cape Henlopen schools, says Superintendent Robert Fulton.

“We had considered these issues before Obama made his decision,” Fulton said.

In a decision that has sparked national debate, the U.S. Department of Justice sent letters to school districts countrywide protecting the rights of transgender people under Title IX – a law once used to provide equal education and sports opportunities for women.

“A school must not treat a transgender student differently from the way it treats other students of the same gender identity,” the letter states. “The departments interpret Title IX to require that when a student or the student's parent or guardian, as appropriate, notifies the school administration that the student will assert a gender identity that differs from previous representations or records, the school will begin treating the student consistent with the student's gender identity.”

Gun Background Checks Hit Monthly Record 13th Time in Row

May saw gun background checks hit a monthly record for the 13th month in a row, according to statistics reported by the FBI.

According to the FBI, the agency completed 1.87 million checks using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in May 2016, about 300,000 more than May of last year, which was a record for May at the time.

The numbers are down over the past several months, as requests for background checks typically fall during the summer months, The Washington Free Beacon notes. The all-time record month was last December when 3.31 million requests were made.

Hillary Locks Up Nomination!

Lifted by a big win in Puerto Rico and a burst of late support from Democratic superdelegates, Hillary Clinton has commitments from the number of delegates needed to become the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee for president.

She reached the required 2,383 delegates on Monday, according to an Associated Press count.

Here's a look at the count and how the AP determined Clinton has enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee, besting her primary rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

WHAT'S THE COUNT

In the primary elections and caucuses, Clinton has won 1,812 pledged delegates. Sanders has won 1,521. That gives her a lead of 291.

That is far more than the 131-delegate lead that then-Sen. Barack Obama held over Clinton when he clinched the Democratic nomination on June 4, 2008.

Conococheague Elementary School closing doors

Staff sad to see school close, but understand the benefit

HAGERSTOWN, Md.

Due to major redistricting in Washington County, Conococheague Elementary School will be closing its doors for good this week.

The school has been a major staple in the county for over 50 years.

With just over 140 students, school officials describe the school as a "tight knit" community. However, the decision to shut the school down was made after it received a low grade from the state due to it's age.

Students will be transferred to Jonathan Hager, Clear Spring or Maugansville Elementary School in the fall, while all teachers were reassigned to eight different county schools.

“They're going to move into these beautiful buildings, have state of the art technology. It's really, actually an exciting time for them. I’m really excited for them. I’m excited that they're going to be in a brand new building," said Nicole Paylor, principal of Conococheague Elementary.

Winter Street Elementary School was also closed after receiving a low grade.

How Americans Are Responding to Obama's Gun Grab

The month of May saw yet another gun-related background check record making it the 13th month to see an all time high.

The FBI completed a record 1,870,000 checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, this May, according to an agency report. That’s almost 300,000 more checks than May of 2015, which set a record at the time.

It is also nearly a million more checks than May 2008.

May was also the first month in 2016 that did not break two million checks as the gun industry enters a seasonal lull in sales. The numbers remain on pace to set another yearly record, however.

The current yearly background check record, all-time monthly record, and all-time daily record wereall set in 2015.

OJ To Confess?

OJ Simpson is so tormented by the weight of his sins that he may one day confess to the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Via CBS:

It has been more than 20 years since O.J. Simpson's 1995 murder trial and yet the case remains an American obsession. The FX mini-series, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and the upcoming ESPN 30 for 30 documentary,O.J.: Made in America, have re-ignited the conversation about all things O.J. and the role that race, celebrity, sports and the media played in the so-called "Trial of the Century."

Some of that talk involves the possibility of Simpson confessing to the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, which is what at least one friend of Simpson's believes will happen.

Speaking with the New York Daily News at the premiere for the O.J.: Made in America documentary, Simpson's friend Ron Shipp, a police officer who has known Simpson for multiple decades, said the Juice is "in total torment" right now.

"The guy is in total torment today," Shipp said. "Someone told me he is 300 pounds and he looks horrible. O.J. has always felt his appearance meant everything and now, deep down inside, he is starting to live with himself."

Do you think OJ was guilty?

Prosecutor: No Charges Against Mom Of Boy In Gorilla Exhibit

CINCINNATI (AP) — A prosecutor said Monday that he isn’t seeking charges against the mother of a 3-year-old boy who got into the Cincinnati Zoo’s gorilla exhibit, resulting in the shooting of an endangered gorilla to protect him.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said the child’s mother had three other children with her, and she was attending to them when the 3-year-old “just scampered off” on May 28. He said children’s services made a visit to the boy and mother, and social workers were impressed by the child’s environment.

Deters said the mother’s actions were “not even close” to meriting reckless endangerment charges.

Legal experts had said that prosecution on child endangerment or similar charges seems unlikely. The family has declined to comment.

WGMD News has learned that former Delaware State Representative John Atkins (D), 46, of Millsboro, was arrested by Delaware State Police Friday night, June 3, 2016. Sgt. AP Count: Clinton Has Delegates To Win Democratic Nomination

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Striding into history, Hillary Clinton will become the first woman to top the presidential ticket of a major U.S. political party, capturing commitments Monday from the number of delegates needed to become the Democrats’ presumptive nominee.

The victory arrived nearly eight years to the day after she conceded her first White House campaign to Barack Obama. Back then, she famously noted her inability to “shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling.”

Campaigning this time as the loyal successor to the nation’s first black president, Clinton held off a surprisingly strong challenge from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. He mobilized millions with a fervently liberal message and his insurgent candidacy revealed a deep level of national frustration with politics-as-usual, even among Democrats who have controlled the White House since 2009.

Report: lots of absent kids, but fewer school suspensions

WASHINGTON (AP) — New government numbers offer a mixed snapshot of progress for the nation’s schoolchildren — with worrisome figures on how many students miss school, stubborn disparities on discipline, but encouraging strides in cutting the overall number of suspensions.

The Education Department report found 6.5 million students nationwide were chronically absent in the 2013-14 school year. That’s more than one out of every ten students missing at least three full weeks of school. It’s the first time the department has collected student absenteeism data.

On a positive note, the survey found a significant drop in school suspensions for K-12 students, down nearly 20 percent from the previous reporting period. But, the report also suggests sharp disparities between how black and white students are disciplined in school as well as the types of advanced coursework offered in high school to black and Latino children.

“A systemic failure to educate some groups of children as well as others tears at the moral fabric of the nation,” Education Secretary John B. King Jr., said in a phone call with reporters. “What sets the U.S. apart from any other country is the idea that opportunity is universal. These data show that we still fall far short of that ideal.”

'Punishable By Jail Time’

Bush administration Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence General Jerry Boykin said that Hillary Clinton posting the names of CIA-protected intelligence agents on her private email server means that she must be indicted.

“What Hillary Clinton has done, I can tell you, it is… punishable by jail time. I think ultimately she’s going be indicted. She has to be. This cannot stand,” Boykin said on Breitbart News Saturday with host Matthew Boyle.

Breitbart News reported that Clinton exchanged numerous names marked by the federal government with “B3 CIA PERS/ORG” redactions, which protect intelligence sources and methods in accordance with the Central Intelligence Agency Act of 1949. Clinton’s sharing of those names on her non-secure private server could result in the FBI recommending indictment against Clinton for violating the Espionage Act.

“There are two very important principles associated with national security and the intelligence community,” Boykin said. “One is the protection of sources and methods. And the other one is called ‘the need to know.’ "

Dear Abby

Dear Abby,

My husband hasn't worked for the last 14 years. All he does is get dressed in the morning and hop in his fancy car to visit his old cronies.
I know he`s cheated on me many times with young girls who could be his granddaughters. I know because he brags about this to me.
He smokes fancy cigars and drinks the most expensive Champagne day and night. We sleep in separate beds because he's always telling me he knows that I`m a lesbian and my varicose veins and ugly face turn him off!
Should I clobber him with my frying pan or should I leave him, Abby ?
Your advice would be appreciated

Mad as Hell

Dear Mad as Hell,
You don`t have to take that kind of treatment from any man. I suggest you pack your bags and move out a.s.a.p.! Don`t resort to clobbering him with the frying pan, and try to act like a lady!
Remember .......you`re running for President of the United States, so try acting like it!
