NO CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST BLACK STUDENTS AT SALISBURY UNIVERSITY: UPDATE

One has to wonder if it were white students, how much jail time would they have received. Implying "White Power" should have been enough to file charges.

The local NAACP has been challenging law enforcement in recent years and the States Attorneys Office for being to hard on blacks.

What's your opinion and keep it clean or your comment will be rejected.

UPDATE: I have spoken with States Attorney Maciarello and he makes an excellent point. Every manila envelope that crosses his desk has NO COLOR.

In this case he stated that there were originally 6 students being questioned. It was eventually broken down to two. However, they do not, (at this time) have enough evidence to charge one of the two. Now, some of you might say, how convenient. Look, I know Matt well enough to know that the man doesn't play games. IF further evidence comes forward and a single individual can in fact be charged, they will do so.

On another note, what exactly do you charge them with. I'd love to have a lawyer come forward and hear what their thoughts are on such charges.

Salisbury Hate Crime Goes National: ‘HATE CRIME’ INVESTIGATION OF NOOSE DRAWING LEADS TO TWO BLACK STUDENTS

After realizing it was two black students who drew the picture, they decided not to press criminal charges.

When Salisbury University police discovered that someone drew a stick figure hung by a noose on the school library’s whiteboard, they launched a hate crime investigation.

But after realizing it was two black students who drew the picture – which showed the hangman crying, included the N-word with an arrow pointed at the stick figure, as well as the message #whitepower – they decided not to press criminal charges, The Delmarva Daily Times reports.

English Associate Professor James King told The SU Flyer that the school’s investigation identified the students responsible for the racist drawing, which was originally discovered April 10.

“I confirm two students have been identified,” he said, “and are both African American.”

The Daily Times Editorial Staff Just Doesn't Get It, On Purpose?

"It already has been decided that they won’t face criminal charges, which seems lenient".

"What it really was, and what nobody has said publicly, is that it was painful"

Well, when you publish such a story/editorial and you only get ONE comment and you conveniently refuse to tell your readers that such mentioned comments in the HUNDREDS are on Salisbury News and are in fact public, that explains a lot.

When you refuse to INVESTIGATE as to WHY they "won't face charges" you'll come to learn that Maciarello and Lashley stated they won't face charges, "AT THIS TIME".

Considering this is a Main Stream Media source, it amazes me that they have conveniently left out quite a bit to this story and sensationalized it in the hope of garnishing a reaction from the public. HOWEVER, there's only ONE comment as of 8:30 this morning for an article/editorial that went public yesterday morning.

Perhaps the public is finally getting wise to the fact that the Daily Times is now worthless, seriously. I mean, if you can't garnish a strong REACTION on a very public story, well, that's really bad and speaks volumes. It is also unfortunate that the little amount of their viewers don't know the whole truth because the Daily Times failed to deliver it.

As I have explained in several comments, Maciarello cannot file charges against these two individuals. It is out of his hands UNTIL Lashley actually charges the suspects. Once they are charged, (if ever) it then falls into the States Attorneys hands. Until then, Maciarello is smart to remain silent on this matter.

If you want to express opinions you need to do so towards Salisbury University and their Police Department and not the States Attorneys Office.

Wicomico County States Attorney Matt Maciarello Speaks Out About Salisbury University "Racist Drawing"

Being ethical and following the law is being confused with "leniency." SU Police could not identify the person who drew the picture out of two in the room. There are problems beyond that with charging a crime in this matter, but the inquiry really begins and ends with the fact that the police, and therefore the State, cannot prove who drew the offensive picture.

At our office, we look at the evidence and we look at the law when we provide advice on charging. When the police do not know who may have committed an act it is not legal or ethical to recommend charging. (There is also no evidence that this was a conspiracy or that multiple individuals could be criminally responsible as accomplices).

There are times when the State shows true discretion or mercy, but this is not one of those times. Our inaction when it comes to charging is commanded by the law and ethics-not race or any other factor.

100% Evidence The Daily Times SUCKS

The editorial below, (published today) has got to be one of the most incredible pieces of crap I have ever seen in my entire life.

I love how Ireton and now the Daily Times screamed and cried calling foul on alleged gerrymandering in District 1 but hey, THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE and let me explain why.

When you voted as a Democrat in District 1, you could only vote for DEMOCRATS! It's a PRIMARY, not a general election. Please, do tell me how it is physically possible how Ireton can even claim the district is rigged in a PRIMARY? What an Idiot/Liar.

The editorial below clearly explains how Ireton's opponent did NOTHING. He didn't raise any money. He didn't have any campaign signs. He didn't knock on any doors. Yet he beat the crap out of Ireton by 2,000 votes! Gee, you don't think I had anything to do with that, do you? I sure as hell hope so anyway.

Nevertheless, read the editorial, it will blow your mind. When you are done, IF you still have a subscription to that piece of crap, left wing, one sided rainbow flag newspaper, cancel it immediately. You can thank me later.

Tip of the hat to Jim Ireton

THE DAILY TIMES EDITORIAL BOARD7:02 a.m. EDT April 29, 2016

After a mighty effort and an impressive showing, Ireton deserves congratulations

It's not customary to congratulate the loser in a primary race, but after Salisbury City Councilman Jim Ireton narrowly lost his bid to be the Democratic candidate for Maryland's 1st Congressional District in November, that's exactly what he deserves – a tip of the hat, a big pat on the back and hearty congratulations.

Why?

Because his opponent, Joe Werner, is a candidate who, it's fairly safe to say, many Eastern Shore voters were unaware existed, for one thing.

Ireton worked the campaign exhaustively, pounding the pavement and creating a constant presence on social media. He made sure everyone knew his name. He attended events. He shook hands, stumped and was involved in every way possible.

Werner, on the other hand, posted on social media, and that's all – no fundraising, no stumping, no meet-and-greets. He was not, by his own admission, not expecting to win. Yet win he did, against an energetic, motivated candidate who worked hard to get his message out.

What we know about Werner is mostly that he did not seem motivated, and he didn't bother to amass money, make appearances, shake hands or meet and greet potential voters.

It is a mystery. Why did so many people vote for Werner, the unknown? Is it a rigged game after all?

BREAKING NEWS: Strong Arm Robbery In Eden

Strong Arm Robbery on Eden Allen Road In the Area of The Eden Headstart (Shore UP)
Ambulances From Somerset and Wicomico have responded and taken 2 patients to hospital.  K-9 units are on scene and are searching for the suspects.  The suspects are described as  (4) Black males.  This address is in Somerset County.

I'm So Disappointed in Our Eastern Shore Republicans And Governor

With the exception of Mr. Mark McIver, our elected Republican Party representatives were a no show when Presidential Candidate Donald Trump came to Berlin, Maryland. Mr. McIver had the best statement I've heard in many years. He said, I don't care if Ted Cruz comes to the Shore, I represent the Republican Party and I will be there to welcome him too.
Donald Trump brought together some 10,000 people to share his views and platform, which was received with great applause.
When I spoke with several elected officials after Mr. Trump had left our area, many stated they were at another event that conflicted with Trumps visit.

I've been doing this for a lot of years Ladies & Gentlemen and I have attended many political events. I have witnessed multiple times an elected official make their speech and respectfully excuse themselves to attend another event.

Governor Hogan has publicly stated that he does not support any of the candidates running for President. OK, I get that and I respect his position. However, this isn't about who he supports. Larry Hogan is the GOVERNOR of Maryland who represents all of us. Like Mr. McIver showed his respect, Governor Hogan, (in the very least) should have at least welcomed Mr. Trump as he arrived at the Salisbury Airport and our State of Maryland.

This is the very first time I have been disappointed in Governor Hogan and I truly believe it is actions like this that are destroying the Republican Party.

Now I can tell you that I stood in the V.I.P. line for hours and not one elected official outside Mark McIver from Wicomico County was present. If I am to be corrected please do so in comments. I did see Mr. Steve Hershey and candidate Chris Chaffee from PG County.

Our Republican Representatives need to respect ALL candidates. I'm confident the Poultry Industry would understand the fact that this once in a lifetime event could have been divided between the two events. Hopefully this article will change their way of thinking in the future.

Berlin Police Make Untaxed Cigarette Bust

BERLIN — Berlin Police seized nearly 13,000 packs of unstamped, untaxed cigarettes valued at over $83,000 following a routine traffic stop on Monday.

On Monday, a Berlin Police officer conducted a traffic stop on Route 113 near Burley Street. According to police reports, the driver appeared to be extremely nervous and presented suspicious behavior to the officer during the initial contact.

The officer noticed a bed of the vehicle contained a large amount of cigarettes and a K-9 team for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist with the investigation. The Maryland Comptroller’s Office was also contacted to conduct a joint investigation with the Berlin Police Department.

The joint investigation revealed 1,292 cartons of unstamped, untaxed cigarettes, which translated into 12,920 packs of smokes. The value of the cigarettes was determined to be $83,334, representing a tax loss of $25,840 to the state of Maryland.

Here are TWO Similar Stories To The Salisbury University Racial incident, Both Deans Fired

U. Missouri president, chancellor resign over handling of racial incidents

After weeks of escalating student protests and the threat of a football team boycott, the president of the University of Missouri system resigned Monday, forced out amid complaints that he had done too little to address racism and other ugly incidents on campus.

Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin — who oversees the university’s main campus in Columbia, Mo. — also will step down, the university system’s governing body, the Board of Curators, announced Monday evening. Loftin plans to leave his position at the end of the year and move to a new role within the university as director for research facility development.

The unseating of two of the university’s top leaders was a swift victory for student activists, who had been railing against what they see as a divisive racial climate on the midwestern campus. They have accused Missouri’s president, Tim Wolfe, of not addressing racist and bigoted incidents this academic year, including when the undergraduate student body president was called the n-word, when a white student climbed onto a stage and shouted slurs as a black group rehearsed a skit, and more recently when a swastika was drawn on a wall with human feces.

Ithaca College president resigns after protests over race issues

After months of protests and no-confidence votes by students and faculty this fall, Ithaca College’s president announced Thursday that he would step down in July 2017.

Student protesters, angered by what they felt was an insufficient response to racist incidents on campus, have been calling for Tom Rochon’s resignation with “die-ins” and other events, mirroring demonstrations over race and bias incidents on many campuses across the country in recent months. From Yale to Claremont McKenna to Princeton to Towson, students marched, occupied administration offices, and presented lists of demands.

At the University of Missouri, the system president and the university chancellor resigned after protests all but paralyzed the public university’s campus, and students at many universities began or amplified their efforts to make changes. The day after that resignation, Rochon, Ithaca’s president, announced he was creating a chief diversity officer position, but hundreds of students gathered, shouting “no confidence!”

A Viewer Writes: Subject: Salisbury Speed Cameras - Be careful out there - The City may be looking to raise revenue

Below is the citation I received from a (new?) speed camera on Route 50 Westbound. Note that my speed was only 7 mph over the apparent posted limit. The road going W from Salisbury has a varied set of speeds up to 55 mph depending where you are so I was obviously within a reasonable range and not zooming across the Earth trying to reach orbit. The claimed posted speed was 40 mph.
Can anyone define the range for a speed violation on the City’s roads or is it something their speed camera contractor does?

I do openly admit that I WAS over the posted limit but am simply trying to understand what Salisbury’s rules are with regard to their camera generated revenue since the State Police generally uses 10 mph (?) over as a violation.

Maybe too many drug mules are getting run over?

Ireton Feels ‘Gerrymandered’ After Primary Defeat For Congress

SALISBURY — As the final numbers came in for the Democratic side of Maryland’s 1st Congressional district primary on Tuesday night, Salisbury’s former Mayor Jim Ireton says he could do nothing else but let out a slightly ironic chuckle.

“I had to laugh because it was less that I lost, and more that I was completely gerrymandered,” he said in a phone interview on Wednesday morning.

Despite winning the Eastern Shore vote by a convincing margin, Ireton lost the primary to Harford County attorney Joe Werner by less than four percentage points and a little more than 2,000 votes.
“I will go down as the veteran politician from the shore who campaigned hard and lost to a guy who practically didn’t even leave his house the entire campaign,” said Ireton. “We outworked a lot of other politicians in the state and raised over $36,000 and came within two points of winning the most gerrymandered district in the state and arguably one of the most gerrymandered districts east of the Mississippi River.”

Still, Ireton was sure to assert that his disappointment shouldn’t be interpreted as bitterness despite coming up short in the primary and missing out on the race that he coveted against Republican incumbent in District 1, Andy Harris.

“I’m retaining and incredible sense of humor about the whole thing, but I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that I had to meet so many new people in and around the shore and throughout District 1,” said Ireton. “It was truly one of the best experiences of my life, and all that time in the car campaigning was well worth it, but yeah, it’s still a bummer in the end.”

A 2014 Washington Post study named Maryland and North Carolina as the two most gerrymandered states in the nation, and pointed out that “Maryland is proof that gerrymandering is not just a Republican pastime,” pointing to the fact that a Democratic majority redrew the district lines in 2012, especially making District 1 a Republican stronghold.

Congressman Harris told The Dispatch in an interview last month “The first congressional district is not a liberal district. It was drawn by the Democrats in the legislature to be a conservative district.”

Take Away The Phone Spoofs And Rigged Elections, Jim Ireton Finally Sees Reality

Jim Ireton Loses To A Guy Who Didn't Even Run A Campaign. Clearly the people of Maryland are showing through votes they are sick and tired of these LGBT candidates. Senate Race in Maryland Exposes Democratic Party’s Fissures

Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards lost a bitter fight for the state’s vacant Senate seat Tuesday night, forecasting expanding cracks in the Democratic party as the 2016 election remains unexpectedly competitive.

Edwards, a black single mom, fell to seven-term Rep. Chris Van Hollen despite record-high voter turnout among African Americans in the state. A victory would have positioned Edwards as the first black senator to represent Maryland in the chamber and the second black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate.

In a polarizing concession speech, Edwards ripped on the left for failing to back a woman of color.

“To my Democratic Party, let me say today: Maryland is on the verge of having an all-male delegation in a so-called progressive state,” Edwards said. “When will the voices of people of color; when will the voices of women; when will the voice of labor; when will the voices of black women; when will our voices be effective, legitimate, equal leaders in a big-tent party?”

Van Hollen is expected to defeat his Republican challenger Kathy Szeliga in November as the two compete for Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s seat, who is retiring after 30 years in the chamber.

Lawmakers have criticized Edwards as a polarizing figure who is “difficult” to work with and “ineffective.” She hit back during a press call Friday, accusing her Democratic colleagues of sounding the racial “foghorn.”

“I thought the Republican Party was full of dog whistles but the Democratic Party has a foghorn,” she told reporters.

Verizon Offers Union its 'Last, Best, and Final Offer'

In a statement released Thursday, Verizon said that it had met with union leaders and presented them with a contract after more than 10 months of negotiation.

The news comes more than two weeks after 36,000 workers went on strike -- the largest since 2011.

According to Verizon, the proposal includes a 7.5% wage increase and protection from layoffs.

The plan stipulates that the layoff protection is guaranteed so long as Verizon gets more control to manage and deploy workers. This would include "voluntary retirement incentive offers and other workforce flexibility changes."

It also features increased healthcare contributions from the company and will continue to provide workers with a 401K company match and a pension plan.

Subject: Kirk Cameron: 'Wives Are to Honor and Respect and Follow Their Husband's Lead'

"Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband's lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband. When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage."

That's advice from actor Kirk Cameron, who was recently interviewed by the Christian Post. Cameron is currently on a tour called "Love Worth Fighting For," a Bible-based event intended "to strengthen and encourage your marriage."

"A lot of people don't know that marriage comes with instructions," Cameron told reporter Samuel Smith. "And, we find them right there in God's word."

Cameron, an evangelical Christian, was a teen star in the 1980s sitcom "Growing Pains." More recently he has starred in Christian films such as "Fireproof" and "Saving Christmas." He is married with six children.

Cameron offered the Christian Post some other advice about marriage:

Return D.C. to Maryland

The District of Columbia has been talking for years about statehood and recently indicated it will hold a referendum with a view to petitioning the government for statehood ("DC mayor wants a new vote on statehood in November," April 15). I believe Maryland should oppose this vigorously. A better idea would be to retrocede the land to Maryland. There is precedent for this action. The portion of the nation's capital ceded by Virginia in 1790 was retroceded in 1846.

Many consider the land area and population of the District of Columbia to be too small to make a viable state. Rhode Island, 18 times larger than D.C., already suffers from such a reputation. In addition, the land comprising the district was once a small part of Prince George's County. To make that area the equal of the entire state of Maryland, potentially able to cancel out Maryland's voice entirely, is to me unthinkable and entirely unfair. It is inconceivable to me that Maryland would give up land without a solid reason.

Retrocession would give the citizens of D.C. all the political rights that other Americans enjoy. I would suggest that Washington be incorporated by the state in a manner similar to that of Baltimore. This would give the citizens home rule, including the election of a city council and a mayor. It would take away the ability of Congress to thwart the decisions of the local government. In addition, the citizens of Washington would participate in the elections of presidents, representatives and senators in the same manner as all other citizens of our nation.

Verizon claims sabotage on network and cables

Verizon says equipment sabotage spiked in the wake of a strike by Verizon workers, now entering its third week.

Thousands of Verizon customers have been cut off from “critical services" because of "criminals” who have “damaged or destroyed critical network facilities,” according to an announcement last week. That announcement came after a Verizon union went on strike on April 13.

Specific incidents mentioned by Verizon include “Sliced fiber optic cabling” at a network facility in New Jersey that cut off services to customers including police and fire departments and an incident in Massachusetts where phone services were cut off for 16 hours. The cutting of fiber optic and copper cables also occurred in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, which brought down both voice and internet connectivity.

Target Boycott Crosses 1 Million Signers, Stock Sinks by $1.5 Billion

More than 1,000,000 people have signed the boycott pledge against Target, following the secretive decision by executives to open all of their stores’ bathrooms and changing rooms to people of both sexes.

Late Thursday night, roughly 75 people a minute were adding their name to the petition as it clicked over 1 million, just after 10:30 pm Eastern Time.

“That’s a million families who are going to spread the word about Target, so they may not get those customers back,” or their money, said Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, which has hosted the boycott.

Target’s “management is just going to have step up here [and] say ‘We’re selling hammers and hats, we’re not into social engineering,'” he said.

BREAKING: Cruz to Make Major Announcement at 4pm

Per CNBC, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is going to make a "major announcement" at 4pm today:

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said he will make a major announcement at 4 p.m. on Wednesday but gave no other details.

Cruz's campaign has begun hinting that he could name a vice presidential running mate as soon as this week, a move that would seek to consolidate more Republican support and create an image that he will be the nominee. Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who made a failed presidential bid, is among the potential picks being vetted.

Donald Trump, pressing his point that he views the nominating race as essentially finished, criticized that as a potential Cruz pick. "I think it would be a bad choice, not because she's a woman but because she did not resonate at all with people."

Will Cruz name Fiorina VP? Will he announce he's dropping out? What do you think he should do?

Maryland State Trooper Charged With Assaulting Arrestee

(BEL AIR, MD) – A Maryland state trooper has been arrested subsequent to a Grand Jury indictment charging him with assault on a man being arrested following a pursuit on I-95 in Harford County last fall.

The trooper is identified as Trooper Matin (sic) M. Dunlap, 25. He is charged with one count of first degree assault, three counts of second degree assault, and two counts of misconduct in office. Dunlap was indicted yesterday by a Harford County Grand Jury after investigative information was presented by the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office. Dunlap turned himself in to State Police investigators at the Bel Air Barrack just before 1:00 p.m. today. After processing, he had an initial appearance before a court commissioner and was released on $1,000 bond.

The victim of the assault is identified as Dennis M. D. Donoghue, 55, of Riverdale, Md. Donoghue was the driver and sole occupant of a Chevrolet Captiva that fled from Dunlap and other troopers attempting to stop it on I-95 at about 11:30 p.m. on October 22, 2015.

The investigation was conducted by the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division Northern Region. The investigation began the day after Donoghue’s arrest, when complaints were received from state troopers who were involved in the arrest after he was stopped.

Cruz announces Fiorina as choice for running mate

Ted Cruz, looking for a shake-up in the 2016 race as Donald Trump moves steadily closer to the Republican nomination, on Wednesday announced former GOP primary rival Carly Fiorina as his choice for running mate should he win the party nod.

Speaking during an afternoon rally in Indianapolis a day after he was swept by front-runner Trump in five primary contests, Cruz announced his decision to cheers and chants of “Carly! Carly!”

“After a great deal of time and thought, after a great deal of consideration and prayer, I have come to the conclusion that if I am nominated to be president of the united states that I will run on a ticket with my vice presidential nominee Carly Fiorina,” Cruz said.

Campaign Mystery: Why Don't Bernie Sanders' Big Rallies Lead To Big Wins?

If you only considered crowd size at rallies for Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, you might wonder how Clinton has won so many big states. Sanders draws massive, enthusiastic crowds, while Clinton's rallies often seem tiny and subdued by comparison.

Monday night, the eve of five East Coast primaries taking place today, Sanders spoke to an overflow crowd — 3,200 people in total — at Drexel University in Philadelphia. His audience was more than double the crowd that showed up to hear Hillary Clinton speak at Philadelphia's city hall.

On Sunday, 14,000 were there for Sanders in New Haven, Conn.

6,600 in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday.

And 27,000 people came to hear Sanders in Manhattan's Washington Square Park a week before New York's crucial primary.

Jane Fonda & Montana Restaurant

Some of you may know all or most of this story and some will have no idea what this woman was really all about.
The radio station America FM was doing one of its 'Is Anyone Listening?' bits this morning.
The first question was; 'Ever have a celebrity come up with the 'Do you know who I am?  routine?'
A woman called in and said that a few years ago, while visiting her cattle rancher uncle in Billings, MT. she had occasion to go to dinner at a  restaurant that does not take reservations.
The wait was about 45 minutes.
Many local ranchers and their wives were waiting.
Ted Turner and his ex-wife Jane Fonda came in the restaurant and wanted a table.
The hostess informed them that they'd have to wait 45 minutes.
Jane Fonda asked the hostess, 'Do you know who I am?'
The hostess answered, 'Yes, but you'll have to wait 45 minutes.'
Then Jane asked if the manager was in. When the manager came out, he asked, 'May I help you?'
'Do you know who we are?' both Ted and Jane asked.
'Yes, but these folks have been waiting, and I can't put you ahead of them.'
Then Ted asked to speak to the owner. The owner came out, and Jane again asked, 'Do you know who I am?'
The owner answered, 'Yes, I do.  Do you know who I am? I am the owner of this restaurant and I am a Vietnam Veteran. Not only will you not get a table ahead of my friends and neighbor’s who have been waiting here, but you also will not be eating in my restaurant tonight or any other night.  Good bye.'
To all who received this, this is a true story and the name of the steak house is:

Obama: 'We Are Fortunate to Be Living in the Most Peaceful...Era in Human History'

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama, speaking in Germany on Monday, said we're fortunate to be living in the "most peaceful" era in human history.

"I want to begin with an observation that, given the challenges that we face in the world and the headlines we see every day, may seem improbable but it's true. We are fortuate to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history," he said.

"That may surprise young people who are watching TV or looking at your phones," he said, "and it seems like only bad news comes through every day, but consider it's been decades since the last war between major powers."
