This old 7-11 store on Main Street and Mt. Hermon Road just can't seem to survive, no matter how many different names and owners have a go at it. I'm sure Mayor Jake Day will open some type of rainbow club there if it sits empty too long again.

When it was High's Dairy the store was well named because all the prices were high I could not afford to go to that store. I haven't been in there since.
ReplyDeleteNot good local for a convience store or eatery. Needs a different bussiness. Like a 3D print shop, Cigar lounge, survilist/prepper or something new and inovative.

DeleteA few years back this store was partly killed by the kids who came from Wi-High and stole them blind. The management put up signs restricting how many kids could be in the store at one time, but the death knell had already rung.

ReplyDeleteOn 7-11-16 when we were in the 7-11 store on Rt. 13, the manager said several hundred 7-11's were closing due to falling sales and his branch and the one on Main Street were on the "to be closed" list.
ReplyDeleteIT probably would have lasted longer if there was any hot food prepared(not that it was good), if the store was clean, or if that crazy woman that spent all of her time talking on the phone actually engaged the customer. The manager Miguel was the only person that gave a damn, and he was almost never there. Besides... there is a goose creek down the street. Just need to get some food in there.
ReplyDeleteI drive past this store every morning and evening on my way to work and home and I've never stopped. Why? Two reasons; bad entry, exiting and parking, and the "hangouts."

ReplyDeleteI know plenty of folks from Labinal use to go there but since they are out of business, ripple effects through the community. I'm sure Jake Day has all the answers just ask him he will tell you how educated and smart he is, how dumb you are, and all the great things the money they are spending on sidewalks along the downtown ditch is going to do. Meanwhile there are Zero new manufacturing jobs left for blue collar workers in the community.

ReplyDeleteThey couldn't turn a profit BC the WI HI thugs stealing, was told that from the store manager. The one on S. Salisbury Blvd is closed too, but that whole track of land is going to be redeveloped. There's not as many of those thugs down that way
ReplyDeleteAlthough the 7-11 on South Boulevard is closed, as well as the one on East Main Street & Long Ave, you believe that "the WiHi thugs" are the cause for declining sales? If anything, the kids from Wihi were a vital part of the company's short lived success. Many students would buy food during lunch, instead of eating the food in the cafeteria. They would also grab a bite to eat before or after their extra curricular activities scheduled after school.

DeleteGoose Creek is better run, cleaner, has a wider range of products, including freshly cooked foods, and security is way better.

ReplyDeleteStaff said the owners didn't want to pay to fix broken water line on property. I will agree with the riff-raff congrgating there before/after school. Had a few run-ins with ignorant kids wanting to stand in parking spaces and defy you.

The prices were high (excepting when Big Bites went on sale). Seems the stores like this that do well have lowest cigarette prices, and 7-11 didn't. But I don't pay too much attention to that stuff.
It's an old C-store layout (ie, small and cramped).
Nearby competition: Wawa, Goose Creek, and Shore Stop. Cleaner, brighter stores, better prices, better food, and gas. Plus all the pharmacies are trying to be C stores, too.
I'll discount the drug deal I saw go down. Not really 7-11's fault, and I've seen them at many other parking lots. But I can see this deterring plenty of people (though they really need to leave Salisbury to get away from that).
That store was destined to fail.
Every 7-11 I have ever stopped into was run by either Indians, or Pakistanis. Unfriendly or indifferent service and not very clean. The old joke is we call them stop and rob!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm all for a decent pool hall if a large enough building ever becomes available.This particular building would make a better professional office than a store.Anything that does not allow impoverished kids to steal would be great,because shoplifting is the new normal.I live near this store,and every kid who walks by after school has some form of candy in his or her hand.I know for a fact they're broke,so do the math.

ReplyDeleteI serviced this location for a major consumer products co. for 30 years. First it was a High's Dairy, then Pit Stop, next corporate 7-11. Same as one by college - corporate. The year these locations were acquired 7-11 corporate management utilized the Japanese model of saturating the market with 100's of 7-11's. 7-11 is owned by the Japanese co. Southland. They projected that some idiot would buy the franchise from corporate. But without gas or alcohol, even the dumbest business person would not purchase. Especially in Salisbury. OC franchisee's different story. They sell alcohol, owned by Americans and tourists will pay the prices. The location in Dover will close, too. The day of the independent c-store is over. The only reason the Pakistani and Indian owned stores keep open is because they hire family, cheat on sales taxes, EBT purchases, etc. And they know that the gov't will do nothing because they are minorities. A Tax Comptroller Agent told me this years ago.
