Racist frat boy who 'put NOOSE on Ole Miss integration statue' as he faces 11-year prison sentence

The Justice Department has indicted a former Ole Miss student on civil rights charges after he allegedly hung a noose on a statue of his university's first black student.

Graeme Phillip Harris, 20, of Alpharetta, Georgia, has been indicted on one count of conspiracy to violate civil rights and one count of using a threat of force to intimidate African-American students.

The indictment is connected to a February 2014 incident in which a noose and a former Georgia flag, prominently featuring the Confederate battle emblem, were placed on a statue of James Meredith.

Harris, who is white, was an Ole Miss student when the noose was left on the statue.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Harris had an attorney to contact for comment on his behalf.

University spokesman Danny Blanton said Friday that Harris is no longer enrolled and that university officials turned the case over to federal prosecutors and deferred to their judgment..

Harris has transferred to University of North Georgia – Oconee Campus, according to the Daily Mississippian.

He is free on bond, though his movement is restricted to areas of Georgia and Mississippi.

  7. Hate crime laws are only for those of the white race, i have yet to find one article where they have been applied to any other race! is this equal justice under the law? No it is not and makes any convictions under them unconstitutional!

  8. these laws are unconstitutional until they are applied equally to all races!

  9. It would happened the same way if a black person wrote on a blackboard with chalk and labeled it a honkey with a noose.

  10. Words and drawings are different than rope and actions.

  11. 8:30 do pray tell us how these two actions are any different... let me guess, anything written or drawn is free speech and decorating a statue is a hate crime and violation of civil rights? Explain yourself! 100 to 1 you can not!

  12. Go figure, double standards.

  13. Not really 8:30 - They could make a case if they wanted to and absolutely would ... well you know how this story goes.

  14. It is so different that the SU students are not charged with a crime and the one in MS was charged, convicted and sentenced.

  15. Once again, the Justice Department is slanted to treat minorities better than caucasions.

Man who vandalized Ole Miss statue sentenced

According to SBYNEWS’ source WTVA TV on Sept. 17, 2015 Federal Judge ordered Graeme Phillip Harris, to serve a six month in prison starting his sentence on January 4 2016.

I note the length of time between the crime and when Graeme Phillip Harris begin serving his time.
I note the time Graeme Phillip Harris could face in prison and his actual time he has to serve.
I note when the Judge announced Graeme Phillip Harris sentence and when he actually started his sentence.
Waste of time and money. Our Justice system needs a complete overhaul. Come back to SBYNEWS in about two years and see if the two black guys are getting ready to head to prison. Two years from now you’ll be saying…hmmm when did that happen.

    1. Your comment makes absolutely no sense at all. You're also not connecting the dots. Liberals are illogical. Some appear to have some mental disorder. You seem to rally behind the criminals in society. What would you do if the situation was in reverse.

  17. 9:16, The SU student/s were female, for the record.

  18. Another example of students being held accountable. This SOUTHERN university understands the ramifications of this type of behaviors. Eschbach is a uber liberal and now has proven she doesn't care more about her students more than the school's reputation. It's time for Eshbach and her cronies at SU to go.

  28. This is a quote from the next story down.
"Harris pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor charge of using a threat of force to intimidate African-American students and employees."

Doesn't the same charge apply in the case at SU?

  30. WHO was the state's attorney Eric Holder ?

  31. 8:30 you smoking crack or are you Black. Same type of intent how can you say they are different. The intent is identical it is just one is white and the two black clowns here have liberal idiots protecting them. Just who are these two related to. I think that is a story all its own. They have to be connected to someone to get all this protection. Should have went to court and if found guilty or not guilty the issue is over with and justice served.
