Teachers union calls on school to cancel Donald Trump rally; protests planned

The union that represents most teachers in Maryland called on the Worcester County school system to block Donald Trump's campaign from using a high school gym to hold a rally Wednesday evening.

"Donald Trump and his divisive, fear-mongering rhetoric have no place in the halls of Maryland's public schools," Maryland State Education Association president Betty Weller said in a statement. "Trump's eagerness to bully minorities would be unacceptable if it came from any of our students."

Liberal group Progressive Maryland issued the same call and launched an online petition that had been signed more than 500 times by Tuesday afternoon.

Trump's rally is being held at Stephen Decatur high school in Berlin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz have already held events in Maryland, as the protracted battle for the Republican nomination continues.

  2. The teachers union time would best be spent worrying about students being raped in the hallways of the schools. And the crime being so bad in the Baltimore City schools that they had get their own police force to handle it. This Betty Weller and the rest of these union useful idiots are the reason why the MD public schools are nothing more than pre detention centers and why students are being brutally raped in hallways.

  3. Total bs! Tell them to shove their cancellation up their arse!

  4. Trump has just as much right to use the Gym as any other non - educational / Teachers Union has. It is / does not interfere with school activities.

  5. Agree with 7:07. Unions are the problem. Watch when thousands of supporters show up compared to a few self entitled whiners and loud mouthed anti free speech activists. These are the precise target of Trump. Those that want something for nothing,

  7. Well Betty Weller, the teachers of Worcester County could care less about your opposition towards Mr. Trump. He has a right to speak as a presidential candidate. We all know you are a Clinton supporter Betty. Your opinion is not important to us. MSEA lost our respect with the embezzlement of our dues money. Yes Betty that was on your watch.

  8. The teachers are garbage. God forbid real history and values get taught in that or any other school on the shore. Can't believe that it seems most teachers are Democrats the way they love the cops. But then again.. Work half a year and want raises every other year.... I guess I can.

Of course, there are some teachers, that are Democrats and teach that baloney. But then there are ones that teach history the way that it should be! Stop lumping all teachers!

  10. It's funny. I am a teacher. I am a republican, as most of my coworkers are. We HAD to join the union. Also, maintain membership so we can have a say with our working conditions. Most of us do not like the union stances. This being one!

    3. Look up the difference between "union shop" and "closed shop". The laws vary state to state.

Here in Maryland, you don't have to join the union but you still pay "dues equivalent". If you choose to work there, you are still receiving all the same benefits as union members. A "Right To Work For Less" state does not require non-members to pay their share towards the costs of collective bargaining. And those states, average wage is lower.

  11. Have we organized a TAXPAYER'S UNION yet? If not, we NEED to. We can even strike for lower taxes. What an idea?

In case these liberal blood suckers have not noticed, Burger King in OC offers a 3% discount for using a kiosk instead of a human employee to take your order. Real smooth, less hassle, and CHEAPER.

  12. It would be nice if they could put the same energy into understanding how to teach. The USofA would not be plummeting into 3rd world county education levels. Hard to believe they can't even teach kids how to write.

Whatever happened to education quality provided in a school year that ran from the Wednesday after Labor Day until the Thursday before Memorial Day? Yet these clowns claim to speak with intelligence.

Bernie Sanders...a SOCIALIST...is the last thing the middle class needs. We pay enough in taxes now, to support a whole lot of people who don't even work. He wants to take from the working class and expand the welfare class...in other words, spread poverty. While the elite, such as him, retain their power and true privilege.

At least Trump is very much against offshoring American jobs. Verizon wants to "consolidate" (i.e. CLOSE) call centers and route the calls to Mexico and the Phillipines. He isn't perfect, but he's not selling out American workers like Obama has.

  45. So let me get this right. They allow Muslim oriented classes at night. They have special classes at night for Haitian immigrants. They have special buildings just for thugs they will not suspend. They allow Churches to hold Gospel Concerts. In Wicomico one Principal has rainbow art and flags throughout her office. Yet we might offend someone by letting the Republican front runner speak. So who does get the nod Ms. Weller. Who decides who speaks after hours. What is American about your actions. I have a feeling your presidency will be short lived. Your bigotry is only over shadowed by your hypocrisy.

I never realized just how bigoted the education system has become. My children attended private school and it was not easy for my family to afford this. They both graduated from private colleges. I see we made the right decision. I have no idea who my children will vote for that is their choice. They should be allowed to hear what all the candidates have to say and not who you choose because of your political beliefs.

Liberals are ruining this country more every day. I was a skeptic of Trump but know now I will vote for this man because the left fears him so much. We need a little balance in this country that has fallen back to the 1950's thanks to the liberal agenda. If you libtards have not figured it out your agenda failed with dire consequences attached.

All the democrats did was create a super under class that remind me of cattle at feeding time. Instead of educating and building up the bottom you just trashed it. When those at the bottom realize free is just controlled slavery you will find your way out regardless of color or religion. Sadly the media has glamourized thugs with gold ropes pouring 1500 dollar bottles of champagne on watches. The mark of a man is his actions and not the color of a rag or cap. The poor will remain poor as long as they allow themselves to by the liberal hype.
