Christian & Muslim Refuse To Perform Their Jobs…With Different Results

Yet, there’s another person who also failed in her job duties due to religious principles. In contrast, few have heard her name. She isn’t being demonized by the media. No one is screaming “bigot” or telling her to hush up and do her job or get another one. Her name is Charee Stanley, and she’s a Muslim-American. These two cases provide a blatant example of a disturbing double standard within our country. Unfortunately, they aren’t the only evidence of it.

“I don’t think that I should have to choose between practicing my religion properly or earning a living. I shouldn’t have to choose between one or the other because they’re both important.”

That quote is not from Kim Davis. That quote is from Charee Stanley, a flight attendant who converted to Islam a month before taking the job where she was aware duties included serving alcohol. She refused to do her duties and serve the alcohol to passengers. She’s now suing the airline. Where’s the public lynch mob telling her she should not have accepted that position to begin with, if the duties violated her beliefs? Why isn’t she being told to just find another job? She’s not being thrown in jail. Actually, she will likely get a nice fat pay-day from all this.

To be fair, the stories aren’t completely identical. Being a public employee doesn’t give you the same freedom as it would – or should – working in the public sector. But ask yourself this…would there be the same outrage had the religions been reversed? Or would one not be in jail, while the other’s former employer was being boycotted?

I think the answer there is clear.

Reports: Escaped cartel leader Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán spotted in Mexico car crash

Escaped Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán could be back in Mexico after media outlets reported he fled federal agents after a car crash.

The Latin Times reported that Guzmán was taken to the Hospital Regional de Macuspana in Macuspana following a car crash in Tabasco, near the Mexico-Guatemala border.

Witnesses at the scene claimed that Guzmán, who escaped from a maximum-security prison in July, was present at the scene and had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

A medical report obtained by the Times show that the patient, possibly Guzmán, asked to be released from the hospital and subsequently left before federal law enforcement officials arrived.

The hospital's director later denied that sequence of events took place, but refused to share details about the patient believed to be Guzmán.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Reminds Residents To Watch For Motorcycles During Bike Week Sept 17-20

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Reminds Residents To Watch For Motorcycles During Bike Week Sept 17-20.

Wicomico County MD--As thousands of motorcycle riders come to visit Delmarva next week the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to be extra careful and watch for motorcycle riders.

Because of their smaller size, motorcyclists are often hidden in a vehicle’s blind spot. “It’s crucial that motorists always make a visual check for motorcycles by checking mirrors and blind spots before entering or leaving a lane of traffic and at intersections.” said Sheriff Mike Lewis.

Sheriff Lewis offered several tips for drivers to help keep motorcyclists safe on our roadways:

Where Dracula Was Born, and It’s Not Transylvania

From its quay in early summer, Whitby was a sun-scrubbed idyll, fluttering with the trimmings of a typical English seaside holiday. Souvenir shops hawked postcards and sand toys, pub bartenders poured midday pints of beer, and the smell of fish and chips hung on the breeze. Along the shore, a row of rainbow-hued beach huts sheltered swimmers brave enough to take a dip in the North Sea. A group of sunburned schoolchildren raced through cobblestone streets, past antiques shops and tearooms, toward the 199 steps ascending to a cliff. I followed them, listening as their excited chatter gave way to dead silence. “Please, Miss,” a little girl appealed to her teacher in an unnerved tone, “I can’t go up there.”

It wasn’t difficult to see why. At the top loomed the stuff of nightmares: the skeletal ruins of the 13th-century Whitby Abbey. Surrounded by gravestones, it offered the only obvious hint that this picturesque town on England’s Yorkshire coast is the birthplace of one of Gothic horror’s most famous villains: Dracula.

Experts Say Settlement In Gray Case Could Affect Hearing

A $6.4 million settlement between the city of Baltimore and the family of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died a week after he was critically injured while in police custody, could play a role in whether a judge decides to move the trials for the six officers charged in Gray's death out of the city.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced the settlement Tuesday, just two days before Judge Barry Williams will decide whether the trials should be moved to a different jurisdiction. Defense attorneys have asked for a change of venue, citing pre-trial publicity and concern that the officers will not receive fair trials if they are tried in Baltimore.

The settlement is expected to be approved Wednesday by the Baltimore Board of Estimates, a body that reviews city payments. The settlement appears to be among the largest settlements in police death cases in recent years, and was reached before the Gray family actually filed a lawsuit.

What happens when the government limits payday lending

Payday lenders open branches in neighborhoods where banks won't go. They give people a place to cash their checks, and they make loans to those whom no credit card company would trust with plastic. The cash isn't free, though. The money has to be paid back, and for many borrowers, the only way to pay off a loan is by taking out another. For them, payday lending often isn't a lifeline, but a trap.

Policymakers who want to protect these borrowers from predatory lending not only risk cutting off much-needed credit for people who really need it, but they also risk implying that the poor can't make sound financial decisions on their own.

That was the complicated dilemma facing the Obama administration earlier this year when officials proposed new restrictions on the $50 billion payday industry. Under the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's proposal, borrowers would be allowed to take out no more than two additional loans to pay back an original loan. People who really needed a loan would be able to get one, the bureau hopes, but loans wouldn't turn into a cycle of debt.

Baltimore’s $6.4 million settlement to Freddie Gray’s family, in context

The city of Baltimore has reached a deal with the family of Freddie Gray — $6.4 million civil settlement over the death of Gray, 25, from injuries he suffered in police custody in April. Two people familiar with the agreement say it also calls for Baltimore police officers to begin wearing body cameras.

How does a city set a price on a wrongful death or a severe injury at the hands of police? How does the settlement for Gray’s family compare to other municipal settlements? Some noteworthy examples from the past 25 years:

  • Family of Amadou Diallo: $3 million ($3.8 million in 2015 dollars). Four white officers saw Diallo, a 22-year-old black man, reach for what they thought was a gun. It was his wallet. The New York City officers fired 41 bullets, killing Diallo. All four were acquitted at trial.

  • Family of James Quarles III: $3 million ($4.3 million in 2015 dollars). Quarles was 22 when he was fatally shot by a Baltimore police officer. He had a knife, but did not raise it, authorities said after the shooting, which was captured on video. The officer who shot him was not charged.

Conservative dissent is brewing inside the Vatican

VATICAN CITY — On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.

A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would “resist” liberal changes — and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. “One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope,” Burke told the French news crew.

O’Malley says furniture purchases from governor’s mansion followed the rules

ANAMOSA, Iowa — Former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley said Sunday that he was “kind of surprised” by the recent controversy over his purchase of discounted furniture from the governor’s mansion, saying his family “followed the rules as they were laid out to us.”

O’Malley, who was campaigning here for the Democratic presidential nomination, said in his first interview on the subject that if he had known there would be “any fuss” over the transaction, he probably would have not gone through with it.

When the O’Malley family moved out of the Annapolis mansion in January, they took dozens of items with them that his administration deemed “excess property,” according to state records. As first reported by the Baltimore Sun, the family paid $9,638 for beds, chairs, desks, lamps, mirrors and other items from the mansion’s living quarters that originally cost taxpayers $62,000.

Raging Horror Confirmed. Mid-East Muslim “Refugees” Go On Rampage at Austria Italy Border

Reports coming in from various European News Outlets are confirming mass migration rampage events by hoards of Islamists cloaked as “refugees”.

“Half an hour ago on the border between Italy and Austria i saw a huge crowd of immigrants. With all solidarity to people in difficult circumstances I have to say that what I saw arouses horror. This huge mass of people – sorry – but it’s an absolute wilderness … Vulgar, throwing bottles, shouting “We want Germany”. So what, Germany is now a paradise?

I saw an elderly Italian woman in a car that was surrounded by the immigrants. They pulled her by the hair out of the car and wanted to use it to go to Germany. They tried to topple the bus i was in. They threw feces at us, banging on the door for the driver to open it, spat on the glass. My question is- for what purpose? How do they want to assimilate in Germany? For a moment, i felt like in a warzone. I really feel sorry for these people, but if they would reach Poland – I do not think they would receive any understanding from us.

We spent three hours on the border, but failed to get through. The whole group was later transported back to Italy by the police. The bus is butchered, feces smeared, scratched, broken windows. And this is supposed to be an idea for the demographics? These big powerful hordes?

Among them there were almost no women and children – the vast majority was aggressive young men. Just yesterday I read the news on all the websites with real compassion, worried about their fate and today after what I saw I am just afraid. And I am happy they do not choose our country as their destination. We Poles are simply not ready to accept these people – neither culturally nor financially. I do not know if anyone is ready. A giant pathology is approaching the EU, one which we have never seen before. And sorry if anyone is offended by this entry.

NY governor's aide remains critical after being shot in head

NEW YORK (AP) — An aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday, a day after being caught in the crossfire between two gangs in Brooklyn.

Carey Gabay, a first deputy general counsel at the Empire State Development Corp., was shot in the head during a pre-dawn party celebrating the West Indian Day parade. He was taken to Kings County Hospital.

Cuomo called the 43-year-old Harvard-educated lawyer "an outstanding public servant" who joined his administration in 2011.

Gabay was walking with his brother near the parade route at 3:40 a.m. Monday when he was caught in the crossfire.

"He's not doing well," Cuomo said Tuesday during a visit to Puerto Rico to discuss ways New York could help the U.S. territory's economic crisis.

Maryland details how each state agency will cut spending by 2 percent

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and the General Assembly agreed to cut expenditures across state agencies by 2 percent to help address an estimated $1.7 billion deficit over the next four years. (Marvin Joseph/The Washington Post)

Maryland plans to rely heavily on public-employee layoffs and other payroll reductions to trim state spending by 2 percent next year, according to plans released last week.

State Budget and Management Secretary David R. Brinkley outlined the cuts in a letter to legislative leaders, saying the state will eliminate 274 positions as part of a blueprint for saving $118 million overall.

California Faces Threat of Earthquake-Triggered Tsunamis

Californians may be used to hearing about the threat of potentially deadly earthquakes, but a new study finds that quake-triggered tsunamis pose a greater risk to Southern California than previously thought.

Tsunamis are monster waves that can reach more than 100 feet (30 meters) high. They are often caused by earthquakes; the 2004 Banda Aceh earthquake and tsunami killed about 250,000 people, while the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that struck offshore of Japan killed about 20,000 people and triggered a nuclear disaster.

Tsunamis increase in size as the depth of water in which they occur decreases. Since water depth is usually shallow near coastlines, tsunamis can grow as they approach land, becoming particularly dangerous along heavily populated coastlines, such as those in Southern California, the researchers said. OCPD Arrests Two after Series of Thefts

Aaliyah Johnson
Sean Luke

OCEAN CITY, MD – (September 9, 2015): On August 28, 2015, Ocean City police and Criminal Investigation Division Major Crimes Unit detectives began investigating a series of suspicious purchases that had been made at numerous Ocean City businesses.

During the investigation, it was learned that a female and a male were purchasing large quantities of gift cards using various types of Visa gift cards that contained stolen credit card information. Several of the purchases were contested by the credit card companies leading to the businesses suffering a loss as a result of the thefts.

A total of six businesses in Ocean City suffered a combined loss of approximately $5,500 in gift card sales between August 14 and August 20, 2015. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating additional businesses that were victimized outside of Ocean City limits.

On September 4, 2015, the suspects were located and arrested at approximately 10:30 a.m. The suspects are identified as Sean A. Luke, 23, of Rosedale, NY and Aaliyah B. Johnson, 20, of Queens, NY.

Ocean City detectives have charged Luke and Johnson with theft of less than $10,000, three counts of theft of less than $1,000 and theft scheme of less than $10,000. Both were seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and transferred to the Worcester County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Any businesses that believe they may be victims of similar thefts, please contact Detective David Whitmer at 410-520-5390 ordwhitmer@oceancitymd.gov.

In Maryland, gambling addiction is growing, but treatment options are not

Michael Rosen, a recovering gambling addict, helps manage the state’s increasingly busy 1-800-GAMBLER helpline. He directs the desperate to Gambler’s Anonymous because the state offers almost no free treatment to addicts. (Andre Chung/For The Washington Post)

Michael Rosen listens to the wreckage that the $1 billion gambling industry has wrought in Maryland.

He listens to the man, $400,000 in debt, whose wife threw him out of the house and told him he couldn’t see his kids again unless he gave up gambling. He listens to the gambler who went on a three-day blackjack binge without sleeping and rarely eating. He listens to the woman facing a jail term for embezzling $135,000 to feed her gambling addiction.

Police search for body of U.S. teacher killed in Nepal

Police in Nepal were searching a river on Tuesday for the body of an American woman who had traveled there to help earthquake victims and was killed for her money, an officer said.

Dahlia Yehia, 25, was murdered in Pokhara, a city famed for its lakeside views of mountains, and her body dumped in a river, said Hari Bahadur Pal, a police superintendent in the town.

Yehia, a teacher from Austin, Texas, arrived in Pokhara on Aug. 4 to help victims of the earthquake that devastated the Himalayan nation in April, but was killed three days later.

In Austin on Tuesday, Yehia was remembered as "one of the cool teachers," by Wayside Schools Sci-Tech Preparatory Principal Mary Brinkman in remarks posted on the Austin American-Statesman newspaper website.

"She was a soft-spoken teacher but she always had a smile," Brinkman said of the teacher students called "Miss Y", who had only been at the school for a few months before resigning to go help in Nepal.

Brazen squatter moves into Puyallup home, sells contents

PUYALLUP, Wash. - A Pierce County family says a squatter not only moved into their house but he started selling off their belongings to innocent buyers on the internet. And the brazen crook is still on the run.

Homeowner Ed Saurs arrived at his residence on Puyallup's South Hill on Sept. 1 to a very troubling situation.

"How could this be happening to me, this is my house," said Saurs. "Somebody is in my house that's not supposed to be, and I was furious."

Last Tuesday, Saurs walked through his front door the same way he has for 25 years. But what he discovered on the inside is hard to believe.

"The man said to me, 'I'm here for the microwave.' And I said, 'Well, no, you're not. This is my house and I'm not selling anything,'" said Saurs. "So I walked around the corner, and I saw that my appliances were gone, and the cabinets were open. I immediately knew what happened."

Why are the Elite Orchestrating Such Amateurish False Flag Shootings?

The recent spate of amateurish false flag shootings,

…which are now being rolled out at an increasingly rapid pace, give one cause to wonder: why? Why are the elite orchestrating such feeble and poorly executed false flag shootings? With all their money, power, control of the media, control of law enforcement and control of politicians, why can’t they make these false flag shootings look more real? Aren’t they worried that with such amateurish false flag shootings they are running the risk of being caught? Of being exposed? Of doing such an atrocious job that it defies common belief, and thus acts as a catalyst to wake people up?
Ridiculous, Poorly Executed and Utterly Fake Aspects of Recent False Flag Shootings

Around the world, and especially in America, the number of false flag operations these days (whether they be false flag shootings, false flag bombings or any other kind of false flag attack) is truly astonishing. Another day, another false flag. Both the quantity and quality of them are surreal. Sometimes it’s hard to believe we live in a world where people are unconscious enough to sacrifice and murder others in cold blood to achieve a political goal, and where other people are gullible enough to buy into the official narrative time after time without any further investigation.

Take a look at the most recent amateurish false flag shooting in Virginia on Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 (the WDBJ TV News report shooting). As Bernie Suarez of Activist Post pointed out, there are so many loose ends, coincidences and fakery in this one that it’s really quite incredible. Since YouTube has embarked on censorship (just like it did after the false flag attack in Charlie Hebdo in France), it is hard to find the video clip, but you can see some of it in this video (also embedded above).

How Congress deals with this to-do list will affect everything

As Congress returns today from a lengthy summer recess, it will be facing a raft of unfinished business and a much different political landscape than the one it left behind in late July.

In the lawmakers’ absence, multi-billionaire Donald Trump has emerged as the undisputed Republican presidential frontrunner with an anti- illegal immigrant, anti-Establishment, pro-war and pro-tax increase agenda that will both energize and further polarize the political debate on Capitol Hill.

Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton meanwhile is now trailing Sen. Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire. With a sizable majority of voters doubting her honesty, a House special committee hearing next month into the former secretary of state’s handling of the Benghazi controversy and her use of a personal email server for official business will take on added political significance as she tries to regain some momentum.

Mortgage debt — the new retirement time bomb

How long has it been since you’ve seen one of those mortgage-burning pictures? It was once a big deal, especially with the Greatest Generation.

There was no joy like that last mortgage payment, and our parents prided themselves on burning that paper, hopefully before they retired.

These days, baby boomers increasingly are carrying that debt into retirement.

And while there are pluses to that (the interest rate deduction for some), many financial planners now advise their clients to pay off the mortgage. But they are much more concerned with credit-card, auto-loan and student-loan debt.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says the percentage of homeowners ages 65 and older with mortgage debt increased from 22 percent in 2001 to 30 percent in 2011. Among homeowners 75 and older, the rate more than doubled, from 8.4 to 21.2 percent.

Christie: Obama has encouraged lawlessness

Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said on Tuesday that President Obama’s actions are inspiring people to disregard the nation’s laws.

“Whether it is New York, Chicago or San Francisco, it is happening everywhere,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“The president has encouraged this lawlessness,” the 2016 GOP presidential candidate added. “It is coming from the top.”

Christie cited Obama's immigration policies as proof that the president is selective about which laws he enforces.

That approach, Christie added, is inspiring similar approaches to government at the state and city levels.

DC-area Harley-Davidson backs out of ‘Ride for Justice’

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) — A Harley-Davison dealership has withdrawn its invitation to bikers who planned to meet at its Fort Washington location ahead of a Washington rally organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

The dealership’s owners had agreed to let bikers to gather at the location Oct. 10 before a “Ride for Justice” rally into Washington D.C. ahead of a march associated with the 20th anniversary of the Nation of Islam’s “Million Man March.” The dealership changed its stance following backlash, including an online petition condemning Farrakhan for advocating violence.

Farrakhan has said the upcoming march, “Justice or Else,” is intended to galvanize a more strategic movement for equality. The 1995 march was billed as a men-only event intended to encourage black men to commit to family values and improving their communities

The Human Cost of Socialism in Power

The attempt to establish a comprehensive socialist system in many parts of the world over the last one hundred years has been one of the cruelest and most brutal episodes in human history.

Some historians have estimated that as many as 200 million people may have died as part of the dream of creating a collectivist "Paradise on Earth." Making a better "new world" was taken to mean the extermination, the liquidation, the mass murder of all those that the socialist revolutionary leaders declared to be "class enemies," including the families, the children of "enemies of the people."

The Bloody Road to Making a New Socialist Man

We will soon be marking the hundredth anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia (November 1917) under the Marxist revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin. In Soviet Russia, alone, it has been calculated by Russian and Western historians who had limited access to the secret archives of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the KGB (the Soviet secret police) in the 1990s that around 68 million innocent, unarmed men, women and children were killed over the nearly 75 years of communist rule in the Soviet Union.

The communist revolutionaries in Russia proudly declared their goal to be destruction and death to everything that existed before the revolution, so as to have a clean slate upon which to mold the new socialist man.

Democrats clinch critical 41 votes for Iran nuclear deal

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats clinched the crucial Senate votes Tuesday to block passage of a disapproval resolution against the Iran nuclear accord, an outcome that would be a major victory for President Barack Obama against united Republican opposition.
But amid fast-paced developments as lawmakers returned to Washington from their five-week summer recess, supporters of the deal stopped short of declaring victory. That was because it remained uncertain whether all 41 Democratic and independent senators now on record in favor of the deal would also support a filibuster to block a final vote on the disapproval resolution.

Still, the complicated machinery of Congress was turning in favor of the president on his top foreign policy priority, despite GOP control of both the House and the Senate. Already supporters of the deal have the votes in hand to uphold Obama's veto of a disapproval resolution, should that become necessary. Blocking the disapproval resolution with a filibuster, while ideal from the White House view because it would spare Obama from having to use a veto, would not change the ultimate outcome.

NBC Poll: Donald Trump Dominates, Jeb Bush Implodes

Current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump maintains a strong lead in New Hampshire, while establishment pick Jeb Bush has steadily lost support in the early-voting Granite State, says the new NBC News/Marist poll.

Trump is 16 percentage points ahead of his closest competitor, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and has 28 percent of likely Republican voters backing him.

Dr. Ben Carson came in third place with 11 percent of the vote, while Bush dropped to fourth place at eight percent.

Bush has lost almost half his supporters in New Hampshire since July, when he was in second place behind Trump with 14 percent to Trump’s 21 percent. Since February’s, he’s lost almost two-thirds of his support, when he was at 18 percent.

Hillary: ‘I Am Going To Make Some Employers Go to Jail’

Speaking at a Labor Day rally in Hampton, Ill., today Hillary Clinton threatened to imprison employers for “wage theft.”

“We’re going to go back to enforcing labor laws,” Clinton said. “I’m going to make sure that some employers go to jail for wage theft and all the other abuses that they engage in.”

“And we are going to make it harder and harder to stop what should be the right of every American: to join a union and bargain collectively through that union,” she continued. “But, I’ll tell you, we’ve got a fight on our hands.”

The presumed 2016 Democratic candidate also endorsed President Obama’s executive order mandating government contractors provide employees “paid leave.”

“I was very proud that President Obama said today he is going to require federal contractors to provide seven days of earned paid sick leave,” she said. “And he’s going to fight for paid family leave, something that I’ve been fighting for for 30 years and we’re going to get it done. It’s not right to treat working people as though they don’t have other responsibilities.”

OCEAN CITY – Rising country singer and former Ocean City local Jimmy Charles will always remember Sept. 1 as the day his wildest dreams came true.

That’s the day the video for his current single “Superman”, premiered on CMT (Country Music Television).

“My phone exploded,” recalls Charles. “They premiered it at 6 a.m., put it as the featured video on the website, and by the day’s end, it was the most watched video, and I was the fourth most searched for artist on the site behind names like Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan. I think all the notifications on my phone drained the battery twice.”

Earlier this week, the video premiered on GAC (Great American Country) to similarly big numbers, and it appears that the song could be, as they say in the industry, catching fire.

Report: Patriots sent employees into locker rooms to steal play sheets

While much of the information in the new ESPN report detailing the Patriots’ Spygate-era portrays the team has engaged in something akin to espionage, there are also charges that they were into more common forms of larceny as well.

Among the charges outlined in the Outside the Lines report include one so brazen and blatant that it seems hard to believe.

Several former Patriots coaches and employees alleged that the team would send “low-level” employees into opposing locker rooms during pre-game warm-ups to “steal play sheets” from teams which scripted their offenses.

The report also says the team would send employees to “rummage through the visiting team hotel for playbooks or scouting reports.”

Such tactics were apparently suspected by other teams, who would leave dummy play sheets sitting around in hopes of throwing the Patriots off their trails.

10 Wild Animals That Are Becoming Domesticated Pets

The word "pet" evokes images of cats curled up on laps, loyal dogs fetching sticks and furry rodents running on wheels. Even with the occasional bird, reptile or arachnid mixed in, pets are pretty predictable for the most part. But as the popularity of exotic pets grows, more animal lovers are legally welcoming formerly wild creatures into their homes. Read on to see what surprising animals from the wild outdoor world are becoming domesticated and adored by pet owners.

Foxes

Foxes are starting to slink their way into homes. In 1959, a Soviet geneticist started researching domestication by breeding foxes. A half century later, the work continues in Siberia at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. Several generations into the project, the foxes currently at the institute act similarly to dogs. They require a significant amount of extra work, but are available to bring home. Still, getting a pet fox isn't as easy as dropping by an animal shelter. These pets cost $8,000, and to obtain one you must be approved by the institute's importer.

Troopers Labor Throughout State Yielded Positive Results

The Labor Day weekend efforts of the Maryland State Police had a positive effect on reducing crashes and keeping the public safe to enjoy the last holiday of summer.

Preliminary information indicates from September 4 through September 7, 2015, troopers made approximately 8,075 traffic stops. They issued 5,493 citations and 4,720 warnings. There were 126 drunk driving arrests and 866 repair orders issued for defective vehicle equipment.

In support of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, S.P.I.D.R.E., a full-time drunk driving enforcement team, was out this weekend in areas of Prince George’s County where drunk drivers and drunk driving crashes are known to be prevalent. The team arrested 20 impaired drivers and issued over 120 citations. Five of those drivers arrested were repeat offenders.

The traffic enforcement efforts of the Maryland State Police led to criminal violations as well. Troopers made 65 arrests and an additional 75 wanted people were arrested on outstanding criminal warrants.

Troopers assigned to the Southern Maryland and Eastern Shore regions worked the Operation SHOWBOAT initiative and inundated the Route 50 corridor from the Chesapeake Bay to Ocean City. Operation Millipede enforcement efforts placed troopers along the entire I-95/I-495 corridor from the Delaware to Virginia state lines. Both operations successfully contributed to highway safety this weekend. During these initiatives there were no fatal or serious crashes.

The Maryland State Police continue to support the Maryland Highway Safety Office’s ‘Move Toward Zero Deaths’ campaign. These high visibility enforcement efforts reduce the number of aggressive driving motor vehicle crashes in which speed, alcohol and other driving violations are contributing factors to crashes on Maryland roads. Troopers will continue initiatives throughout the year.

2015 East Coast Lady Trooper Charity Softball Tournament

The 14th Annual East Coast Lady Trooper Charity Softball Tournament will be hosted by the Delaware State Police. This two day event will take place at the Sports at the Beach Complex located at 22518 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947, east of Georgetown, on September 19th and 20th 2015.

This annual charity event solicits the support of female State Troopers along the east coast to raise money to support local charities. The purpose of this softball tournament is to bring several different state agencies together for a common goal of helping others. Each year the hosting state donates the tournament proceeds to local charities.

The charities chosen this year are Camp Barnes and the Special Olympics of Delaware. Camp Barnes originally opened in 1948 to combat juvenile delinquency. The camp was named in recognition of Col. Herbert A. Barnes, who was the Superintendent of the Delaware State Police at the time of the camp's inception and was instrumental in raising the necessary funds and volunteer work needed to make Camp Barnes a success. The camp's operating budget exceeds $200,000 per year, and all of the funds are from donations and fundraisers. For eight weeks during the summer, 60 youths per week - ages 10 to 13 - attend Camp Barnes with no financial burden on parents or guardians. In addition to the above, Special Olympics of Delaware, the Delaware Burn Camp Foundation, the City of Wilmington and the Delaware 4H utilize Camp Barnes.

Special Olympics Delaware provides a year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or cognitive delays. A family of over 4,000 volunteers makes this program possible for the more than 3,500 athletes who compete in Special Olympics Delaware. The organization builds sports skills, confidence, strength, motivation and self-esteem ... not just for the athletes, but for everyone involved.

In the 13 year history of this event, the tournaments have raised over $100,000.00 for the supported charities.  It has grown to include teams from nine states (Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Delaware) throughout the east coast and the Delaware State Police have hosted the tournament twice.  Please join these Troopers to reach our goal of  raising $15,000.00 for Camp Barnes and the Special Olympics of Delaware. If you are interested in supporting this great cause, you are welcome to donate (please make checks payable to Pipes & Drums of the First State, Inc., a 501(c)3) or come out to watch the games.   The Delaware State Police is proud to support these charities and our community.  We have assembled two teams to play in the tournament this year and obtained corporate donations from major supporters in the First State, but would appreciate all the support possible from the citizens of this great state.

Governor Larry Hogan Announces First Regional Meeting of Regulatory Reform Commission

Encourages Area Business Leaders to Attend and Share Experiences

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan has announced that the recently formed Regulatory Reform Commission will hold its first regional meeting on Thursday, September 10, at Baltimore City Community College. This is the first of six meetings to be held throughout the state this fall.

Earlier this summer, Governor Hogan issued Executive Order 01.01.2015.20, which established the Regulatory Reform Commission. The commission will conduct an extensive review of the state’s regulatory climate to identify issues that impact Maryland businesses.

“Years of overregulation, tax increases, and an anti-business attitude have had a devastating impact on Maryland’s economy and have limited our ability to compete regionally and nationally,” said Governor Hogan. “For years we have heard from citizens and business leaders from across the state who repeatedly describe the onerous, antiquated, and duplicative regulatory obstacles they encounter in order to do business in Maryland. This commission will seek to identify and resolve such problems.”

The governor encourages area business leaders to attend the commission meetings to share their experiences and provide feedback and recommendations. “With the input of area business leaders, we will continue our goal to fix Maryland’s regulatory environment and change Maryland for the better,” said Governor Hogan.
