ReplyDeleteAlternatively, all the cops fire their tasers - in succession so the perp gets hit with a fresh charge as soon as the last one fades.

ReplyDeleteFirst sensible comment about this incident I've read so far. It's so easy for us all to sit bad and be armchair cops, giving opinions about what should or should not have transpired but bottom line...none of us know that weren't there. Personally, I think the student being tossed across the room seems excessive but that's only my take based on initial reactions to the video.

I would have used mace, and if she continued to resist a lawful order, then tazz her ass!
ReplyDeleteI would have snatched that phone out of her hand and waited for her to pop up out of the chair to get it! The end result would have been the same because she would have assaulted the officer for it.

ReplyDeleteI would have dragged the whole desk, with her in it out the door and into the hallway. She is no longer disturbing the class, and I get disability pay for throwing out my back. It's a win-win!
ReplyDeleteShe should have been charged with disorderly conduct, arrested and taken to jail. If her parent or guardian had to post a 1,000.00 bail I would bet she wouldn't do it again.

ReplyDeleteThere were actually some good ideas in here, which I doubt were intended to bust on the officer. Take her phone? Check. Most school policies state they will confiscate a phone and hold it until the parent picks it up.
ReplyDeleteEmpty the class and call the parent, and when they come, tell them their little precious is suspended? That sounds like a possibility.
I think the cop was kind of rough, but I can't really judge him, either. I don't know how these things are said legally for schools, but in real life, she would have been disturbing the peace and resisting a lawful awful order.
I hope the cop gets to keep his job. This wasn't about race. It was about disruption. If kids see other kids getting off with no punishment, you have a bad situation on your hands. Kudos to the kids who are standing up for this guy and recognize that he gives his time as a coach to help children of all colors enjoy sports.

ReplyDeleteThe police officer did every thing right. He told her to leave the room or he would have to drag her out. She chose to stay then she chose to hit the officer after forcing him to drag her out. When she chose to attack the officer, he was forced to change his focus from removing her without harm to securing her as quickly as possible. The police officer has no way of knowing what weapons she may have or what her intentions were. His focus after being attacked had to be the safety of the class as well as his safety. Bottom line you attack a police officer what happens next is on you.
