Republicans pass 'Donald Trump Act' as Obama vows veto

WASHINGTON (ABC News) - Donald Trump may be thousands of miles from Washington on the Texas-Mexico border, but on Capitol Hill he's center stage in the fight over illegal immigration.

"Donald Trump is trying to get to the White House, but it looks like he’s already infiltrated Congress," said Rep. Tony Cardenas, D-Calif., during debate on the House floor. "This bill on the floor of this House today has Donald Trump written all over it."

The bill, which is formally called the "Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act," would block states and cities from receiving federal law enforcement funding if they have so-called “sanctuary city” practices in place, blocking the enforcement of certain federal immigration laws. It passed today in the House with overwhelming Republican support in a 241-179 vote, with only six Democrats joining the majority.

Democrats have pejoratively labeled the legislation “The Donald Trump Act,” tying the proposal to the volatile presidential candidate and his controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants.

  8. Washington has the DT's plain and simple.Even if Trump does'nt go all the way he is making a profound impact.I personally am offended when his own party has the "we don't know what on earth we're going to do with him.He just won't shut up" attitude. Are they so detached from reality that they can't understand his message,or do they have a below average IQ? Now the GOP is actually telling us that we don't know what's best for our country.I think we do.

  12. Obama took an oath to faithfully enforce our laws (yes, I know he's a stone cold liar) but if he vetoes this law he is essentially reneging on his oath in a public way.

He'll more likely let it become law without his pen touching it and then just not enforce it.
