Racial turmoil in ‘Friendliest Town’

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. — The crowd gathered outside City Hall last week, demanding that their community’s first black police chief — fired amid allegations leveled against white officers of departmental racism — be given his job back.

In a place that bills itself as the “Friendliest Town on the Eastern Shore,” angry residents marched with posters that read “We Support Chief Kelvin Sewell” and jammed inside the quaint red-brick building to voice their outrage to the Pocomoke City Council.

Pocomoke City has been on edge since Sewell was fired by the council June 29. According to the former chief and his supporters, he was sacked for refusing to dismiss two black officers who described working in a hostile environment.

  1. "racial turmoil"?????
I got news for you, slick. There is always going to be "racial turmoil" as long as the blacks act and live just as racist as the whites. No one will publically say it but racism is a TWO WAY street. Many studies have been done on segregation and it was found blacks naturally congregate with those they feel most comfortable being around (fellow blacks) and whites congregate where they feel most comfortable around (fellow whites).

BOTH blacks and whites are to blame. We are all God's children and until we wake up and realize that, "racism" is always going to be around. Different from each other????? yes in some ways. Similar to each other???? yes in many, many more ways so when are both sides going to realize it and do something about it. Pocomoke was NEVER the friendliest town on the eastern shore. I lived there for many years and the town was full of corrupt police chief, corrupt city manager, and some inept council members. Nothing changed. Maybe this is a start but the blacks have to wake up to the reality you reap what you sow. Sorry, that's the truth and you know it.

  2. The officers he should have fired for what? Could you please print what they did ?
I'm sure the council will give in to these uninformed mass of protesters.

  3. These people have such low standards and just need to be dismissed for what they are-low information.
The bottom line, with Sewell's record he should not have been hired in Pocomoke to begin with.
According to Baltimore Sun reports while as a BPC officer, he withheld information relating to a corrupt cop and only came clean AFTER he failed a polygragh.
Who is to say he isn't covering again for 2 bad cops by not wanting to fire them.
The city doesn't need to prove a thing but Sewell certainly does and that is he needs to prove that it isn't him that is up to his old tricks of covering for corrupt cops.

  4. Blacks have nothing but hate in their hearts. Look at how they are knocking each other off in the cities everywhere in this country.

  5. I was in full support of Sewell (even praising him from time to time right here on this blog) up until I did my own research after this story broke and found out that he has a history of attempting to cover up for a bad cop.
If the black community finds that acceptable than there is their whole problem right there. That right there is the reason why there isn't and never will be racial peace. Some of us have higher standards and expectations and morals and will never see eye to eye with those who don't.

  6. Who named Pocomoke the "Friendliest Town"?

    1. The same people that named Ocean City "The Most Dangerous Town In Maryland"?

  7. If these people complaining had any morals they would be asking why he was hired to begin with, with his history of trying to cover up for a bad cop.

  8. "His supporters told the five-member council that Sewell helped get rid of drug dealers who did business on Pocomoke City’s streets."

Too funny. In light of the 20 or so dealers recently arrested in Pocomoke I would love to know what Einstein said this.

  9. "Jones demanded that the council change the town’s sign: “Please send somebody to the South End to take ‘The Friendliest Town on the Eastern Shore’ off that sign.”"

Exactly Jones take that sign up BUT be sure to replace it with the truth-

"The Town on the Eastern Shore that Hires for a Police Chief Someone Who Covered Up for a Corrupt Cop in Baltimore"
and below that in smaller letters should be included-
and only came clean when he failed a lie detector.

  10. These people are ridiculous and hard to take seriously after you read that Sewell "helped get rid of drug dealers."
What do you call the recent raid that went down that included every local agency except the PCPD, several divisions within the MD State Police AND Homeland Security!

  11. Thanks so much Joe for posting this and allowing comments that are mentioning Sewell's Baltimore City history, something Jonathan Taylor likes to cover up.
People need to be aware that Sewell isn't nearly the picture of perfection that all thought. Now the public can make a more informed decision as to where they stand on this issue when more facts are exposed.

  12. How about a new name for P. City -- Clown Town!

  13. The only "clows" are the ones who want a disgraced cop caught covering up in Baltimore rehired as the chief.

  14. Why was Savage demoted and put on administrative duty. He had to have done something wrong to get demoted. Isn't that desk duty? There has to be some correlation between Savage, Green and Sewell and the recent large PC drug bust. I can't help but thinking they had to know all that was going on and how come Sewell didn't act on it. Were these 3 taking some kind of kickback from the dealers maybe? Was Savage demoted and put on the desk because he couldn't be trusted out on the street? Was he warning dealers of impending raids?
So many questions unanswered but I would be willing to bet that Sewell wasn't fired at all for the reason he is saying.

  15. I have to agree with Tasker. A lot of people don't know how to address the African American community anymore because they don't carry around the same moral compass as a lot of us.
They pretend to be Christians but engage in immoral behaviors like the so many illegitimate babies they make. 70% of black children are born out of wedlock! This is a sin. They overwhelmingly support Obama who lies pathologically. This is a sin. They are murdering not only others but other blacks like crazy in the inner cities these days. This is a sin.
They promote lies like black lives matter, hands up, Michael Brown was a gentle giant, Trayvon Martin was an alter boy and on and on.
If they would only realize and accept how almost everyone really thinks of the mess they have made of their race they would become better people for it. And yes people think this way including the democrats who won't say it because they only see blacks as votes and don't want to offend them.

  16. Sewell is just an all around POS and I'm sick that I too once spoke highly of him. Once a liar always a liar is all this boils down to. This article is all about what he is claiming-he was fired because he refused to fire 2 black officers.
The city's hands are tied and they can not respond because they can not openly and publicly speak to personnel matters.
If Sewell were an up and up man he would give the city permission to release all pertinent information related to his termination.
But he won't because then once again as like happened to him in Baltimore he will get caught lying again.

  17. Savage is as corrupt as they come and this will come out soon enough. What happens in the dark comes out in the light(DC) What's really bad is that they keep mentioning God and that they are God fearing people. Some people know you Frank

  18. When I was a kid, just 16 years old I used to take my Ford Galaxy 500 and run from the Pocomoke Police. Man those were the days. I could take those back roads and they could never keep up with me. The motor in the car was pretty fast and they could never catch up to me so they had no idea who I was. Not sure I would try it these days with more police on the roads, but it was a great memory.

  19. I get sick and tired of seeing the blacks come out of the woodwork to support another crooked black person. Then you see goofy white people joining them because they have no clue what is going on, but their indoctrination in public schools tells them its the right thing to do. These are the same idiots that will go to their grave supporting Democrats like Obama.

  20. I just heard it today that only roughly 10 percent of blacks go on to become self supporting members of society.
    This explains it right here.
Sewell was caught up in a cover up in Baltimore involving another cop. This is one of the things that got them all riled up in Baltimore causing them to basically what only amounted crapping up their own nest.
Now you have these down here, supporting this corrupt cop.
Their young people are all mixed up. They get no consistency. You must teach the children in the ways of the Bible and the Lord.
This is exactly why the violence and murders have erupted in the predominately black cities. They have forsaken God and He has turned His back on them in a very big way.
They need to get on their knees and repent their sinful ways or they must just keep on digging the graves.

  21. 6:00-We knew who you were and where you lived. We just wanted to see if you were stupid enough to run your car wide open on back roads. What would that Galaxy do anyway,60 MPH?

  22. The EBT Blogger just stole WaPost article as his own, barely paraphrasing it as "his own". What a loser.

  23. He is such a loser and a liar. He won't approve any comments that make reference to the recent large drug bust in Pocomoke or the issues the former chief had when he was in Baltimore one of which was serious in that he attempted to cover for a bad cop and only came clean when he failed a polygraph, according to media reports from the time.

  25. There is no "racial tension" in Pocomoke City...but I suppose the bigoted liberals who write for the Post can judge anything they like with binoculars when they are fed stories by a disgraced former chief's attorney. This story is an incredible racist rant in support of corruption. No interview of any official asking about the reasons...and why not ask the disgraced racist chief to simply release the city from liability so his employment records and personnel file can be viewed?

The truth would surely hurt in this case.

  26. You don't see me up at City Hall trying to get his job back...the hell with him and the rest of the Baltimore possy. I don't like either of them....The point is don't make racial comments and expect no one to say anything. .

  27. Yeah lets blame the black people for everything wrong with the world....I can believe those people DID violate EEOC rules by racially harassing Savage, and I'm a white guy! It's typical behavior for most white people in the tri county area.Good ole boy-ism runs deep.

  29. All you white people on here who keep posting derogatory, racist, untruths and slander... you seem awful racist. I can tell you - i examined writings, grammar behaviour for a living for many, many years and i know who you are. That's warning #1.
Keep it up, and i WILL out you, causing more than a law suit and strife against you, for MANY people who are fed up with your nonsense.
Yes, you definitely have a right to your own opinion. But please dont forget, some of you ARE law enforcement personnel/city officials. You MUST be aware of the laws protecting EVERYONE from the likes of you, who say things (derogatory, racist, untruths and slander, ETC) that CAN be used against you in a court of Law.
