  1. Sad news. Does anyone know who he is?

  2. They dispatched Stations 1, 2 and 16 out for a vessel in distress. Very minimal information except the boat hit buoy 55 and some guy went in the water. WTF!! What is sad is the fact that Salisbury "Command" waited way to long to call for assistance from the other fire departments. It took almost an hour for command to call for assistance for other divers in the County. First the called Fruitland to assist and then a long while later they called for divers and boats from Stations 5,12, and 14. They never even dispatched Station 15 Allen who has a boat and close by. He was definitely dead by then. What a shame! They should sue the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Fire Department for negligence on that call. The 911 center didn't even dispatch it as a serious water rescue with a man overboard and not located. They dispatched Stations 16, 2 and 1 and I don't believe the volunteers at stations 16 and 2 ever got out. What kind of water rescue training does Stations 1, 2 and 16 have? Almost NONE! If you have an accident of any kind in Salisbury you might as well be dead.

  5. They couldn't dispatch the Salisbury fire boat because it isn't even in the water. It isn't even in Salisbury. It's in a boatyard, broken down....again!

  7. Very tragic. May he rest in peace and his family somehow find peace. I'm thinking that Brew River is probably in contact with their lawyers by now to protect themselves against a lawsuit. I hope they nail them!

  8. What does Brew River have to do with it?

  9. WTH does BR have to do with it? We are all responsible for our own actions. Boating at night is never safe if you ask me except at no wake speed.

  10. Before blaming the fire departments , one should look at the reason for this tragedy. Dredging equipment is in the river there and evidently not lit up at night causing the boater to run into it.

  11. Dredging equipment in the river would be published in Notice to Mariners, whether lighted or not. It's the responsibility of every boater to be familiar with the area in which they operate. Unfortunately most people who purchase boats have more money than brains.

  12. so true 8:16 pm. Why are they dredging the busiest time of the year and why isn't it properly lit up with some sort of light reflection etc. Awful !!!! Somebody better start asking some questions!!! The equipments out there laying in the water is totally black. You can't see it!

Fire Departments are blamed because of poor leadership and negligent decisions and the lack of appropriate decisions. This man may have been located much quicker if the right departments would have been dispatched and the had a better leader making the calls. Shame of Rick Hoppes and his piss poor fire department. Rick Hoppes should resign immediately.

Apparently he saw it on his way to show off his big boat at the bar! Should have remembered where it was. Anyway the female occupant said they hit the buoy.

How did he get such a nice boat and how did he get off on many of those crimes.

Maybe I am not reading this correctly, but all I see are charges and not a single conviction.

Regardless, I don't see where any of it has anything to do with the man's death. You call him a thug and deserved to die, etc. Well I say you are trailer trash. You delight in counting other people's misfortune but hide your own. Hypocrite.

Talking ill of the dead, attacking him when he cannot defend himself. You are one classy dude. One of the foretold finger pointers. You must be so proud.

  26. This is to every person that has responded in a negative manner about the accident and death of Kenny Vickers Jr. or the fire company or any other person that was there trying to help the family rescue their loved one. I was there on the scene from 2;00 A.M. until 11;00 A.M. as a concerned family member. They worked very hard to try and rescue him. I am his uncle and cannot stand or believe that any person would openly bash someone and their family at this very sad time. These kind of people bring no good to this world. I would appreciate, that if you have negative comments about this accident keep them to yourself and try to be kind just for once you will like yourself a lot more. Thank you

I agree, but the Salisbury Fire Department should be better prepared to handle this type of rescue. They hold some responsibility as well.

  32. No matter his history I don't believe he should have died. I believe if found soon enough he may have lived. I blame poor decisions on the part of the fire department for not making fast and accurate decisions in requesting help for a man in the water at that time of night.

Richard A. Hoppes you need to resign and your staff should be demoted or fired.

You must be a paid farmin who must have been there. Nice distraction trying to blame something on dredging equipment when it was clearly negligent decision making by the fire department that was a contributing factor in the loss of a life. Bad move!

Same paid farmin ^^^ as 8:16 that was there on the river during the search trying to cover their asses. Who else would know that the "dredging equipment was black" if they weren't out there.

You don't have to be very bright to be a paid farmin. LMAO

  37. Shame on you for being so inappropriate on this blog! This man was a good person who was highly respected and loved by many. His past has holes that can be punched into all his previous offenses and unless you know the real story, how dare you comment on another human being's life. Get down off your pedestal and respect this family's grieving process. Do unto others as you would wish someone to do unto you.... God is the judge of all - not you or any other person. Our firefighters work tirelessly day in and day out to save lives. When you get up in the middle of the night to save a life, we can respect your opinion. Negative comments are for negative people. Save them!

  38. Some people have no shame. This man passed away and you have to denigrate him still. You don't think losing your life is enough? What sad individuals it must take to comment negatively on someone who died. Even if he wasn't a model citizen, what difference is it to you? Unless you were someone he allegedly assaulted its best to keep your mouth shut.
