Mr. Ireton: Did Sen. Mikulski Lie About Jobs At The Labinal Plant In Salisbury?

Almost immediately after the phase-out of production and eventual closing of the Labinal plant in Salisbury was announced, Ireton is telling us that none of the $994 million funding of the contract for 32 additional Chinook helicopters has come to Salisbury for components/systems to be used in them. And that may be true - the funding for the contract was approved in December, 2014.

Boeing, the prime contractor for the choppers, says that it does not know whether any part of those funds has been disbursed for work done in Salisbury, but that seems irrelevant. In recent years, certain components (electrical systems, etc.) for the existing Chinook fleet have been purchased from Labinal, which made them here. It stands to reason that would also be so in regard to the additional birds. And, unless Mikulski was feeding us 100% BS, she must have been told or led to believe by Boeing’s executives and/or its lobbyists that Labinal would furnish the components and build them here.

Was Mikulski’s vote bought by Boeing or Labinal or does she really support beefing up US defense? What say you, Babsie? And how about your pals O’Malley and Cardin?

What's more interesting for folks in Salisbury is that Ireton has already gone public, claiming that he has been told by Boeing that the local Labinal plant is not involved, but Boeing says that it does not know at this point whether that is the case.

Is Ireton trying to deflect criticism for the plant closing from himself. At the time of the funding approval by Congress, Sen. Barbara Mikulski proclaimed that she had saved 400 jobs in Salisbury by supporting the funding. Ireton tried to ride that savior story as well, suggesting that he was also responsible for what was portrayed in the local mainstream media as a huge boon for Salisbury.

Stay tuned, folks, because it looks like this one has legs as news journalists sometimes say. We will keep you posted on subsequent aspects of this matter that may come to the surface or become known to SBYNEWS.

  3. This is the end for Jim Ireton in Salisbury. He tied himself with Mikulski on this one and NONE of the Press are really telling you the details behind it. All they are saying is that the facility is closing, 650 jobs lost and then they show Ireton. Ireton said, Salisbury officials are already discussing how to transform that plant for the future. REALLY Jim, since when is that your plant? How about ALL of the other facilities in the City and IF YOU have NO responsibility here and the "plant" is in fact in the County, why are you acting like you are now in charge? I'm thinking Ireton knew more about this well ahead of time then he admits.

Why isn't the Press telling you there were 975 employees one year ago??? Don't think for a second I don't have inside people there because I do.

The Press is trying to downplay this whole thing. Why, because they are Liberals and they don't want their Liberal representatives damaged in any way.

And why is that, because if a Conservative gets elected they're afraid of being cut off because Conservatives won't tolerate their BS.

I should add, Jake Day is just as liable here as well.

Now, if the two of you want to impress me/us, tell us how you are going to fix this. As for Rick Pollitt, man I'm glad you got voted out I'll bet the guy never had a clue about this because he's never worked a day in his life.

  5. One business right after another is folding. I guess Ireton will say that JC Penny's wasn't at the Centre of Salisbury Mall either. Or how about Maxum Bayliner, I guess they weren't in the Industrial Park either. How about Standard Register - my guess is that Jim Ireton had their sign removed right-a-way.

  6. Mikulski is a senile old fool, who believes anything anybody tells her. She needs to go.The sooner the better. That goes for Cardin, and everybody else that has been in office for more that 2 terms. As for that poofter mayor, he will say or do anything to cover his backside. (itsss not MY faulllt!)

  7. 8:53 yes it is an easy move for Perdue as they already have the land but I didn't think that they had solved the transport issue to the NE markets which would really hurt that move. Maybe Delaware?

  8. The lies, deceit and corruption uncovered in this story are important and should be loudly broadcast by the local MSM. Thank God we have a real news source that we can rely on to let us know what is really going on in da'Bury! Thank you Joe for SBYNEWS, keep up the good work.

  9. Why isn't the Board of Education listed as an employer? I'm guessing they employ 4000+ people countywide from admin all the way down to support staff. You can't discount them just because you don't agree with what they do or how they do it.....well, unless you're Obama creating a healthcare system that is.

    1. I get that but the point is the majority of those employees live in Wicomico county, spend their paychecks in Wicomico county and therefore support the local economy. If we're looking at local companies that employee local residents then by default they should be part of the demographic. If hypothetically they closed tomorrow and approximately 4000 were out of work, the vast majority would have to leave the area to find work. That affects the retail and housing markets dramatically so bottom line is where their paycheck originated doesn't matter. Where they spend it and the impact of losing it has to be a factor. For that reason the university should be included as well.

  13. Mikulski is one of the biggest receivers of defense contactor's lobbists money. It is where she gets most of her funds to keep getting re-elected. It's obvious who she represents....and it's not the people of Maryland.

  22. If you want the real story find out why their last CEO quit.

He received a notification that the plan was to pull the work out of Salisbury since day one and he could not live with himself so he quit

  23. I'd love to see Perdue move to NC. I work for Perdue and would love to live in a 'Free'State'. I've liked Salisbury but see the 'Good Old Boys' still rule and are making a mess of things. Elections matter. I'm hopeful that we've got some good local people this time around but we are feeling the effects of the last stolen election. love him or hate him, Joe has common sense and a sense for business and I beleave this story would have been different.

  24. 12:18, That's very kind of you, thank you.

I tried to drill it into everyone's head, you cannot have a part time Mayor in Salisbury. I was willing to work full time at part time pay and I'm not so sure anyone else would be willing to do that.

Liberal leaders will try to get Jake Day full time pay should he get elected and that's just wrong.

The job should be about SERVING, Paying It Forward.

A full time Mayor would have been on top of this. Ireton and Mikulski, (in my opinion) knew what this company was up to.

No matter what the case was, this is a FRENCH company who took advantage of the fact that they were recognized by the government as a MINORITY business. They were fed business they shouldn't have.

WHY is OUR government feeding MILLIONS in grant money to a foreign company? Well, probably because Ireton and Mikulski sold Obama on the fact that they were going to GROW on the Eastern Shore, hence the Mayor and Senator pounding their chest saying they were going to create 400 new jobs, ANOTHER LIE.

A year ago the company had 975 employees, now they have 650. Don't you think for a second that Labinal got the grant overnight, this toook time, so Ireton and Mikulski KNEW they were dropping employees and NOT replacing them. They scammed Obama making it LOOK like they were going to increase by 400 new jobs when 325 of them had disappeared. The company was only going to create 75 new jobs, not 400!

So Ireton can try to come up with alll kinds of excuses, I have contacted my REPUBLICAN friends, Delegates, Senators, Congressman and GOVERNOR on this scam and it IS being investigated.

The fact that your local Media is only telling you a very small piece of the real story, well, that just proves that they are knowingly lying or misleading you. WHO can you trust in the Main Stream Media any more?

All I can say is, you Folks better find a decent republican businessperson to run for Mayor because the bottom feeder Liberals who have only worked for big brother all their lives have no clue how to salvage these situations.

  32. Your clueless about MaTech. LWRC has already completed the machine shop move from Cambridge to the Salisbury facility. The gun company manufacturing is moving this year into the MaTech building. Richard Bernstein owns both. He is also in the early stages of starting another business. That will also be housed in the MaTech building. And this new business has a real good chance of turning into something big for this area along with LWRC.

  33. Dear 12:31 PM:

Outside of Salisbury, the ONLY other source of jobs on the Shore is OC. Problem is that the electorate has openly pledged these jobs to FOREIGN workers. Nothing against that except for their very overt efforts to hire foreign only. Hard to hire local for bus drivers? Just look at their website. The truth is that they want CHEAPER bus drivers from overseas. You can't find a lick of effort on the OC website to hire anyone. The applications are either hidden or reserved for foreign connect labor.

Part of the problem is that OC has hired from neighboring industries such as chicken processing. That would be Mr. Thornes. He and his followers seem to believe that hauling people is the same as hauling chickens. Unfortunately, the bad guys are focused on people, not chickens.

So, as a result, you MAY find yourself boarding an OC bus driven by some 20 year old foreigner with some "stuff" in his backpack. These buses hold 40 people and the driver decides when you can get off emergency or not.

  34. No politician on either side of the aisle is at fault here. You haven't heard from any politician who knew of their plans. As the company said, they are consolidating, and naturally, they are consolidating to their headquarters. Yes, it's sad, but it happens all of the time, in all economies. You pick on Salisbury, but this is happening all over the country and world. The deal is done. Stop focusing on the negative and use your supposed business expertise to help those who are losing their jobs.

  36. I suppose this means all 600+ workers will qualify for 3 years' unemployment comp & all other welfare payments and benefits... A Democrat's dream. Sounds like something Ob' would engineer.
