  2. Wicomico Schools are closed, but Central Office will be open on time? Does that mean the teachers are off today?

    1. Yes.... since there are no kids to teach, there is no need to have them there, but don't worry this day will be made up by both the STUDENTS and TEACHERS.

    2. No it won't! The first " snow" day will be made up? A teacher trying to make it seem like this day off will be made up. I'm sure they'll be grading papers all day!

  3. I'm sure the well compensated teachers and administrators will get the day off, while us peasants and serfs still have to report to work on time.

    1. What do you want the teachers to do in an empty school? Their students/clientele will not be there today. They will make the day up with the students, by adding on another day to the end of the year. The administration will work today.

    2. You are a peasant because you weren't intelligent enough to educate yourself and get a better job. Now get those fries ready.

How about they report to work! They complain they come home and work so much, they obviously have work that needs to be completed. Teachers are the only people I know who get paid full time for part time work!

  4. 7:26 AM We in the USA have a choice - you chose to be a peasants or serfs. Why did you chose not to be a well compensated teacher or administrator so you would be eligible for snow days and only work 9 months a year?

I chose to be a peasant, driving to work in all kinds of weather, 50 weeks a year. If I had chosen to be a well paid teacher working only 9 months a year, I would probably be in prison because I would not put up with the crap our teachers face daily.

  6. Unless you are student, you need to be at work regardless! We pay your salaries through our already inflated high taxes forced on us by your high salaries and bloated boe!

So get off your arrogant asses and go to work!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. You are correct..... and we will work and make up this day, when we can actually do our job with students. If we went in today, we would just be sitting on our arrogant asses at school, because we cant do our job. Think!

    2. There is more to teaching . there is grading papers, lesson planning, cleaning and organizing your classrooms etc.....
And here is a ???? Why is it my children's homework is never graded? My kids say they pull it out ,the teacher makes sure its there and they go over it. Never once looking individually at them. My teachers collected homework and graded them over night. With bigger class sizes then wicomico has.

When you can do your job? You can't sit in a heated building for 8 hours and drive in a Lil bad weather? I drove in it and worked outside all day. I make more than most of you......but only if I show up!

  7. Laurel School District was on a 2 hr delay at 6:25am and didn't close schools and notify parents until 7:30am. Nice...who made the decision to wait so long? Our roads are 10 times better than Salisbury but only on the main ones. The others are still sheets of ice covered by slush.

  8. Truth is, teachers work does not stop when they leave the classroom. Lesson plans, grading, and editing papers all takes place at home. Will bags full of student work that require comments and grades.
You may not like teachers but do not question how hard they work and the dedication that they have for their young students.
Teachers may be home today but they are working on school work, grade book, creating lessons, and catching up on paperwork/grading.
Teachers will also make this day up during spring break or at the end of the year.
For those of you saying that teachers only work 9 months a year you need to look a bit closer at the calendar, teacher training, and stop throwing phrases out there like you know what your talking about.

Please, if you feel teachers have it easy, call a local school and ask to volunteer in the classroom for a few days. Go in the class, watch the teacher, interact with the students. See for yourself!

  9. 9:46. I have done that exact thing. No thanks. Being in a class all day with that many kids and having to deal with their cry baby parents is not for me. More power to the teachers. I have complete respect for them. Take the day off.

    1. You teachers are not talking to the dumb students you produce. This day will not be made up by teachers. They aren't working at home. I just saw 5 teachers alone at Walmart with groceries. And four at kohls. Seems like it is more of a woohoo day .

    2. You're missing the point. Yes, today is a day off, but it HAS to be made up per Md. LAW..... students have to be in school 180 days. So, it will be worked at a later date.

    3. There are a certain days allowed to be missed. Called snow days! Really folks...we were educated by real teachers we aren't stupid!

  14. As a former teacher and administrator I am sick and tired if teacher bashing. I was just on the bypass and saw a van upside down off the road. I would not want any child or teacher to have that happen to them. As far as the peasant going to work. That is his or her choice. I decided I wanted to teach and I did a good job of it for over 30 years

  15. You should give up your next professional day to make up for this, rather than making students pay for your day off! Be accountable for the money we are paying through our extremely high property taxes!

  16. How to be a teacher and make an actual impact on society while getting the additional benefit of working at home when it snows:
    1) Stop complaining about something you do not have a clue about and go back to school to actually get your degree in teaching while increasing your knowledge of your favorite content area. Tip: Make sure you have good grades!
    2) Take the Praxis 1and 2 and make sure you pass or you won't be able to get your certification.
    3) Get an actual job as a teacher in an actual school where you work with and help kids, as well as society, on a daily basis. Your time would be better invested in helping your community as oppossed to complaining about something you do not have a clue about.
    4) Get some actual experience teaching that first year and come back for more fun your 2nd and 3rd years.
    5) Start working on a master's degree at night and during the summer to gain more knowledge in your craft. Be sure to finish so that you can can keep that teaching certification.
    6) Become a contributing member of your school and community and advocate for your students and profession because not many other people will.
    7) Get back to us in about 5 to 10 years and let us know how you have made out. We look forward to your success and hope you enjoy becoming a productive member of society that gets to stay home when it snows.
    8) Maybe we will even get to see you at the beach in about 5 years.
    Best of luck to you!

I can guarantee you that your degree in the private sector isn't worth what you are getting right now!
Your wages are not even commiserate with average household wages in this county.

People with degrees have lost jobs. I have a Bachelors degree in both Business administration and an AA degree in computer science. My job was outsourced to India and China. I'm lucky to have the tech job I have now that pays only 15 per hour. The county and the state government are out of touch. Wages have gone down.

We are tapped out paying your high local, state, and property taxes. I am totally sick of your arrogant attitudes! I though teaching was supposed to be a calling and not a means to get rich off the public dime!
You should be grateful you still have a full time job with benefits!

It is a calling and we are thankful for our careers! While it is a calling, we also have families to support and bills to pay. If you want to change your situation then do something about it and stop blaming everyone else for your problems, specifically teachers. Gain more skills somewhere and do what you need to do. You can even follow the steps above.
While I COMMISERATE with you regarding your situation, I had nothing to do with the outsourcing of your job. The idea that teachers are getting rich and should somehow decrease their salaries or benefits based on the fact that jobs are being outsourced and wages are decreasing is ludicrous. It seems that you agree with moving backwards somehow.
It would be nice for wages to be COMMENSURATE within our community, but it sounds like you need more experience. An associates degree is a place to start, but I would expand on those computer skills to make yourself more marketable. Education is an investment in your community and if you want more companies to invest in your community further raising wages, it begins with investing in and supporting your educational system.
