Only hope this doesn't happen in the county. More reason to not by any property in the city of Salisbury. I think you will see more and more houses up for sale. I'm sure some churches may also consider leaving to the suburbs. I guess they will start taxing the air we breath next.
Chamber Says "Table" City Storm Water Utility Fee Ordinance
City of Salisbury Council,
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce would like to bring to your attention our concern regarding the proposed City storm water utility fee ordinance No. 2306.
We respectfully request that the Council "table" passage and implementation of the proposed fee.
Our members still have questions regarding what the implementation may actually look like and what sort of fees they can expect their business and/or residences to incur. The Chamber appreciates the efforts of incorporating a robust credit system into the legislation, but believe that this issue merits more time, more study of the impact, and more information.
We understand that the original intent of this legislation was to be "proactive" in anticipation of our areas population soon exceeding the threshold requiring the need for storm water management to kick in. However, with the election of Governor-Elect Larry Hogan, who is committed to reducing the fee and tax burden on businesses and either rolling back and/or repealing some 40+ taxes implemented by the current administration, we feel that it is in the best interest of our community to "wait and see" how the new administration is going to handle storm water management.
We do suggest that the Council perform "due diligence" and have this ordinance ready for implementation should it be necessary, however, to " table" and NOT add to our current roll of fees, fines, taxes, and regulations already on the books that businesses have to deal with in the City. The Chamber respectfully ask that this legislation be given more time for our members to review and understand.
The Chamber would appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Administration to discuss exactly what these implications may be. We look forward to working collaboratively with Council on this issue moving forward.
Jim Ireton(I refuse to call him mayor), Jake Day and the three pigs that voted for this tax. SHAME ON YOU Tim Spies for voting for this, especially after the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce asked you to table this. Tim WTF were you thinking? You are forcing a TAX on your friends, neighbors and supporters. Shame on you!!
We're praying for a very long drought. 20% is a chunk. For most families about $42 a year, down to $20 "initially...as a gift". Are the slumlords going to be paying this, or are their renters springing for it? More to pay at every corner. How can this be stopped? We all make our wishes known but we are not being heard! Nothing ever happens in our favor.

ReplyDelete9:35 - That's Christmas present from Jake Day!

Will our NEW county executive do something on this issue.
ReplyDeleteSince the city owns a majority of impervious surfaces, just how much will the city contribute to this new fund?
ReplyDeleteBoy, am I glad I just moved from Salisbury. They continue to move in only one direction.....DOWN!
ReplyDelete10:33 Ummm. do you not get it? Really? City taxpayers will be footing that bill...where do you think the money comes from?
ReplyDeleteNo wonder these bums are elected, when the voting public is as brilliant as you.
Can this be moved up -- its important news.
