Some Western Md. Residents Want To Form Their Own State

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) — A tale of two Marylands: Western Maryland and the rest of the state. Fed up with high taxes and gun control, some people want to break away and go it alone.

Mary Bubala explains why they’re trying to form their own state.

There’s a storm brewing over the beautiful mountains and valleys of Western Maryland. More and more people in those five counties say Governor Martin O’Malley is out of touch and they want to break away from the rest of the state.

“I can’t imagine Maryland without Western Maryland,” said Governor Martin O’Malley.

  1. Throw in the Eastern Shore and you might have a fighting chance!

We need to divest ourselves from the central corridor of DC-Balto-Annapolis

  2. The state of delmarva...I'm all for it!!! Let's break away from these liberal jag offs. How many of you are prepared to sack up for a revolution?

  3. The Eastern Shore should secede as well for the Socialist Republic of Maryland.

  4. I transferred her 27 years ago as part of a transitional team with a government group...

I did not understand the anger to come-heres, but now that I have been here so long...

I agree we should form our own STATE and break away from the Western Shore...Charge them $25.00 to cross the bridge to see us..

  5. They might as well. They already live in their own little world.

  6. And it is a good little world.

  7. Let Martin stay in the City with those that don't work, don't pay taxes, breed without forethought, and are born with their hands out.  They will take good care of him when the workers/tax burdened leave.

All business and industry split long ago and he's still kicking us in the teeth.

Best schools in the country?  Those in the city look like the after photo of a nuclear blast.

Don't know a soul that likes him or voted for him.

P.S. He's got some good ideas for the people in his bid for President.

  8. Its a good little world with one nagging problem it's still attached to the socialist state of Maryland. We on the shore should join them and let Baltimore and surrounding idiots form their own little poop hole of a state.

  9. Joe..maybe you could start a survey on your site and see how the votes would go for secession or no?

  10. good, maybe they will stay there in it

  11. I can imagine the State of Maryland without O'Malley, Marty! And it's such a wonderful thought!

  12. Secession now! Western MD and the Eastern Shore could join together and let MOM and friends have Baltimore area and the DC suburbs. The two new states would be called the free state of Maryland and the Socialist Republic of Omalleystan.

  13. Ha ha ha, we have the worst economy in the state and you think cutting yourselves off from state funding is a great idea?
We are already NOT part of the main stream, and how is that working out? Lets just go full bore into ghetto, we can be the next mini detroit! Heck we are half way there...
Yea I see our part time mayor and city council raising us up from the hole we are in. Look how good they are doing!

  15. 7:09 since the eastern shore already formed it own poop hole why not drag the rest of the state in

  16. This is all just a wingnut fantasy. Check your constitution, separation can never happen.

  17. 8:51 The same people with vision and guts (unlike you) that would bring about this separation of the socialists from the working people of the state would make sure that there are REAL elections of local government officials, not the election fraud that is currently performed by the corrupt Good Ole Boyz Club in our area. Certain elected (?) officials that are currently ruining this area now will be free to join their comrades in the Socialist Republic of Omalleystan. Maybe a fantasy for now but that's what the Tories said about those bad Tea Party people in 1773.

  18. 8:56 Separation can happen and has happened. Its an uphill battle, but it might bring OMalley to his senses. Its hard to look Presidential when 25% of your state want out.

    hello?

  20. Get rid of O'Malley, the Eastern Shore does not want him either.

The Eastern Shore could survive as the State of Delmarva. All of the beach funds would stay local and not go across the bridge to be wasted by the current government.

The state (western shore) gets the money collected as bridge tolls. We could set up tolls and charge them all $25 to get to the beaches.

At this point, pulling away from this entire Country isn't a bad idea!

  21. I'm a little tired of that bunch anyway.Good riddance. As long as they don't have the audacity to come to OC AFTER they separate from the rest of Md.

  22. I think the solution is very simple. take all the counties surrounding Washington DC and Northern VA and make it the new state called the District of Columbia or Lenin Land. With the Liberal Washington area out of the way, I think the State of Md can now stay the "Free" state with the troublesome counties bordering the dc area out of the way. I can tell you that most Virginians don't like or identify with the liberal Northern VA counties that surround DC. I think that is where most of the problems are coming from. Baltimore will just have to fall in line or join up with the DC area. I think this is simple and will fix most of the problems.

On the contrary,it is constantly being invaded by folks from other areas, further polluting the gene pool.
