Controversy is brewing around a high school in Denton, Texas, that is said to be using a United States history book that seems to summarize the Second Amendment inaccurately. And there are several other schools currently using the book.
“The people have the right to keep and bear arms in a state militia,” the definition in the book, “United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination,” which acts as a study guide for the Advanced Placement U.S. history test, reads.

50 Richest Members Of Congress 2013
Each year since 1990, CQ Roll Call has reviewed the financial disclosures of all 541 senators, representatives and delegates to determine the 50 richest members of Congress. This year's report, derived from forms covering the calendar year 2012, shows it took a net worth of $6.67 million to crack the exclusive club. The wealthiest lawmakers with breakdowns of their assets and liabilities is found below.
Issa had a very, very good year. The longtime denizen of the 50 Richest list finally reached the No. 1 spot after making about $135 million in 2012, mostly from investments that swelled in a bull market.
Before his election to Congress, the Californian made his fortune founding Directed Electronics — based in Vista, Calif. — which manufactures car alarms. Now Issa appears to make his money in the stock market. He ended 2012 with at least $390 million in bonds and stocks. His true worth, however, could be far greater. Members of Congress aren’t obligated to disclose exact figures, only ranges, and Issa has seven accounts with a minimum of $50 million, which is the highest category available on standard disclosure forms.
Issa also has about $75 million in outstanding loans, owing at least $50 million to Merrill Lynch and $25 million to Union Bank. Whether he truly is the richest member of Congress actually depends on precisely how much money he owes to Merrill Lynch.
It is impossible to really know, even though Issa’s own financial disclosure forms list him as president of the OpenGov Foundation, which aims to bring transparency and technology to government. Regardless, Issa made a significant amount in the stock market in 2012 — more than $100 million — and he made at least $10 million more in real estate sales.
1.Rep. Darrell Issa R-Calif.
RANK | NET WORTH | MINIMUM ASSETS | MINIMUM LIABILITIES | |
---|---|---|---|---|
This year | #1 | $355.38M | $430.38M | $75.00M |
Previous year | #3 | $140.55M | $315.55M | $175.00M |
Change | +2 | 152.8% | 36.4% | -57.1% |

Speaker Busch ‘did not like redistricting’ either; Tea Party upset at GOP ‘establishment,’ Boehner
Lots of people in Maryland, particularly Republicans and minorities, didn’t like Maryland’s congressional redistricting in 2012 that helped eliminate one of the last two GOP seats and did not create another potential minority district.
But during a talk Friday night, one of the major participants in the process, House of Delegates Speaker Michael Busch admitted, “I did not like the redistricting.”
Busch was at a conference on the historic Continental Congress in Annapolis and responding to an question from the audience criticizing the gerrymandering that helped redraw the 6th Congressional District. The plan added thousands of Montgomery County residents so that 10-term Republican incumbent Roscoe Bartlett would lose to a Democrat, as he did to Rep. John Delaney in 2012.

John McCain Might Retire In 2016. Maybe. Hopefully
Little did we know when he was desperately pushing for war in Syria, that it might have been a last ditch effort to begin the World War III that his Senatorial legacy required. John McCain might be looking to end his 27-year Congressional career, before, he says, he becomes one of those old guys that you want to shove off.
Because when I think of John McCain, I definitely don’t think of a guy who has outlived his usefulness.
At all.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hinted that he might be serving his last term in office, admitting that he does not want to become “one of these old guys that should’ve shoved off.”
McCain, a 27-year veteran of the Senate and former presidential candidate, made the admission while speaking about his relationship with President Obama.
“The president and I, he’s in his last term, I’m probably in mine, the relationship we have had over the past three years is quite good,” McCain told The Wrap in an interview. “Quite good.”

Two New Polls Tell Us Americans Are Very, Very Confused About Obamacare
Obamacare opens for enrollment in 15 days and, if two new polls are any indication, the White House has a whole lot of work to do in the next two weeks. Taken together, the polls from Pew Research Center/USA Today and Wall Street Journal/NBC News take a pretty good snapshot of where Americans are right now, just days before open enrollment starts. Let's get right to it.
The uninsured are unsure of what the health care law means. The Wall Street Journal/NBC Poll found that those most likely to benefit from the health care law are largely unaware of the overhaul–and also skeptical that they will use the new programs, when they launch on Oct. 1. Report Suggests Nearly Half of U.S. Jobs Are Vulnerable To Computerization
Oxford researchers say that 45 percent of America’s occupations will be automated within the next 20 years.
Rapid advances in technology have long represented a serious potential threat to many jobsordinarily performed by people.
A recent report (which is not online, but summarized here) from the Oxford Martin School’sProgramme on the Impacts of Future Technology attempts to quantify the extent of that threat. It concludes that 45 percent of American jobs are at high risk of being taken by computers within the next two decades.

ObamaCare Cares About Your Sex Life
And not only do they care, they want to know all the details. We already know that Los Federales want to know about so many other things in your life, like whether you’re enjoying your 2nd Amendment Rights (not mandatory, but the Feds recommend asking), every single bit of financial information, and other bits of your life, and this data will surely be shared across multiple federal and state agencies. And, can we really trust the IRS to not Do Something with the data it collects? Here’s something else they want (via Drudge, which features the below photo)

Cape May-Lewes Ferry Gives Young Boy A Summer's Worth Of Excitement
Edward Goldberg, MD, is a cardiologist who has owned a home and vacationed in Lewes for the past three decades. His grandsons, Andrew and Zach, visited Lewes last summer during July and August. A visit to the Cape May-Lewes Ferry was a daily routine and its workings a magnet for a child’s curiosity. Below is Goldberg’s account, written with his grandsons in mind:
A visit to the ferry
Andrew, a 6-year-old first-grader, has fallen in love with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. This love affair started last summer when he and his grandfather, Sa, visited the ferry every day. Each morning Sa was awakened promptly at 7 a.m. to be in time for breakfast and the 8 a.m. ferry. The morning always started with reading the ferry schedule and noting the color of the day, which defined the frequency of arrivals.

What Putin Got Right
It’s a sad day for the United States when the president of any other country, but especially Russia, can outmaneuver our president and successfully claim the moral high ground on anything. But that’s exactly what happened thanks to President Obama’s feckless “foreign policy by gaffe” – if you can even it call it policy – toward Syria in recent weeks.
But in the course of seizing that high ground, Vladimir Putin got a couple of things wrong.
He wrote a column in The New York Times Wednesday that concluded, “My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.”
Contrary to Putin’s prose, American exceptionalism is not based on “policies” but the principles upon which our nation was founded. For what it’s worth, President Obama misunderstands this too, but the thought of a Lieutenant Colonel in the KGB invoking God and citing the Declaration of Independence is beyond ironic. Yet aside from what Putin gets wrong, he gets one thing right, if only by accident.

FLOTUS: Obama 'Will Shake His Groove Thing'
MOOCH: Obama 'will shake his groove thing' DURING TONIGHT'S LATIN MUSIC CONCERT AT THE (SEQUESTERED FOR TOURS ONLY) WHITE HOUSE
WHAT ELSE WOULD OUR "GUN GRABBER IN CHIEF" BE DOING BESIDES 'SHAKING HIS GROOVE THING' AFTER 12 INNOCENT AMERICANS WERE KILLED ON A US NAVY BASE TODAY?
President Barack Obama’s dance skills will be on display this evening, according to his wife.
First lady Michelle Obama said that the president “will shake his groove thing” at a Latin music concert being held at White House on Monday. Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin and Romeo Santos are among the artists lined up to perform.
The first lady made the prediction this morning during a Latin music workshop for students, according to a White House transcript.
“Now, the percussive beats and the buoyant melodies from these songs come just -- from just about everywhere,” Obama told the students. “You'll learn they come from the Caribbean and Mexico, and from Central and South America, and also even from Africa and Europe. And when you put all of that together, you can’t help but move to the music — even the president, you will see tonight.

STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO REPAIR MD 90 MEDIAN GUARDRAIL WEST OF OCEAN CITY
Eastbound MD 90 Lane Closure Planned September 17; Motorists Traveling to Upper Ocean City are Encouraged to Plan Extra Travel Time
Beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the eastbound lane of MD 90 (Ocean City Expressway) from MD 589 (Racetrack Road) to St. Martins Neck Road to repair a section of guardrail. SHA expects the work to be completed by 3 p.m., weather permitting.
Motorists traveling on MD 90 westbound from Ocean City will not be impacted. Eastbound motorists on MD 90 will be directed to MD 589 to US 50 as the detour for the temporary lane closure. SHA’s contractor is L.S. Lee, Inc. of Baltimore.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!

“I’ve said all along that the one place I’d want to make my first step back out is Texas. Y’all’s hearts are as big as your state.”

Confessions Of A Kmart Service Desk Employee
Five years ago, we published a post called “10 Confessions of a Kmart Manager.” Kmart and all of Sears Holding Company aren’t doing so well right now, so maybe the company has tried to make some changes to draw and keep more customers? No, an anonymous front-line Kmart employee tells us. They have not.
Maybe this employee happens to work in a terrible store or district…but that doesn’t make it okay.
We’re still forced to ask customers to apply for credit cards.
“Employees will apply for the credit cards and take the hit to their credit score just to make our store manager happy. The management doesn’t inform the employees that their [credit] score will take a hit when they are denied, or about the huge fees and giant interest rate that they will be body slammed with if they don’t take the hit.”

On 5-Year Anniversary Of Mortgage Meltdown, Those Responsible Are Doing Just Fine
On Sept. 15, 2008, Lehman Brothers became the largest bankruptcy filing in the history of this country. It was the first domino of many to fall, followed by the likes of Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, Countrywide, Wachovia, Washington Mutual, and many other banks and investment firms that had bet too much money on the subprime mortgage market, only to have it collapse when people realized many of those bad loans would never be repaid. These events ripped apart the American economy and left people out of work for extended periods of time. But not most of the bankers responsible for the mess.
In honor of the five-year anniversary of the Lehman disaster, the Center for Public Integrity has been publishing a series all week called “After the Meltdown,” which includes some follow-up looks at how various executives at failed banks and subprime lenders have survived in the post-bubble world.

Route 113 Bypass Public Hearings Scheduled For Sept. 18-19
The public is being strongly encouraged to share their opinions on the proposed Route 113 bypass that could someday cut a new 16.5-mile highway through Sussex County. Officials with the Delaware Department of Transportation visited the Frankford Town Council on Sept. 9 — one in a series of meetings to inform people of the public hearings.
People are responding to the recently published Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which studies the pros and cons of five options for a limited-access highway.
The federal government would pay for 80 percent of the major highway project, but they require DelDOT to complete a DEIS, public hearing and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) before they’ll consider anything.

Your E-ZPass Might Be Tracking You Everywhere, Not Just Tollbooths
When you get a toll-paying transponder like the E-ZPass, you assume that it just sort of sits there until you drive through a toll booth. That’s not true. Maybe, according to a recent presentation at DEFCON, you should put your E-ZPass away unless you’re actually paying a toll right now.
Toll transponders usually come with a little foil pouch. You’re to use this when you don’t want the tollbooth to pick up your signal: say, when a friend is paying tolls in cash for you or when you’re cheating on your partner with someone a few highway exits away and don’t want to leave a record of your whereabouts. (Note: the latter use is not endorsed by the E-ZPass Inter-agency Group.)

Social Security Paid Disability Insurance To 30,000 People Who Had Jobs
The payments took place over a two-year period ending January 2013. The Government Accountability Office says the payments amounted to $1.3 billion. Both GAO and Social Security say the numbers amount to less than 1 percent of beneficiaries, and of dollars. But the GAO says the potential improper payments indicate weaknesses in Social Security's procedures for policing the disability system. A Social Security spokesman says the agency will investigate potential fraud cases and turn them over to its inspector general.

Congress’s Exemption From Obamacare
Make Congress get insurance the same way the little people do? Hill denizens howl in fury.
Prostitution. Bribery. Blackmail. Thuggery. Hypocrisy.
Those were just some of the incendiary words thrown around the U.S. Senate last week, and that doesn’t count what people said in private.
The Senate may still have a reputation as a genteel club, but lawmakers seemed to abandon rules of decorum completely last week in arguments about whether Congress should be treated like the rest of the country when it comes to Obamacare.
Senator David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, has demanded a floor vote on his bill to end an exemption that members of Congress and their staffs are slated to get that will make them the only participants in the new Obamacare exchanges to receive generous subsidies from their employer to pay for their health insurance. Angry Senate Democrats have drafted legislation that dredges up a 2007 prostitution scandal involving Vitter. The confrontation is a perfect illustration of just how wide the gulf in attitudes is between the Beltway and the rest of the country — and how viciously Capitol Hill denizens will fight for their privileges.

Wikileaks recently continued the release of what they refer to as the “Spy Files.” These files provide a look into some of the companies behind the rapid commercialization of the spy equipment industry, who’s clients include repressive governments and dictatorial regimes around the world. In a press releaseannouncing these files Wikileaks states:
Across the world, mass surveillance contractors are helping intelligence agencies spy on individuals and ‘communities of interest’ on an industrial scale.
The Wikileaks Spy Files reveal the details of which companies are making billions selling sophisticated tracking tools to government buyers, flouting export rules, and turning a blind eye to dictatorial regimes that abuse human rights.

ICE Released 2,837 Convicted Alien Sex Offenders To Comply With Supreme Court Ruling
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released 2,837 convicted criminal alien sex offenders back into American communities in order to comply with a Supreme Court decision authored by Clinton-appointed Justice Stephen Breyer, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
The 2,837 sex offenders represented five percent of the 59,347 deportable aliens that have been released from detention under the supervision of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the GAO report, which was released Thursday.
“There are circumstances in which criminal aliens who have been ordered removed from the United States – including those convicted of a sex offense – cannot be removed,” the report states. “For example, a criminal alien may not be removed because the designated country will not accept the alien’s return.”

Have A Nice Day!
So, Jesse Jackson, Jr. 17-year veteran of the US Congress, suddenly gets a "mood disorder" (about the same time he learned he was to be indicted) and is going to prison for 2.5 years. Because his "mood disorder" was so severe, he has become disabled and will receive $8700 per month as a disability payment as well as $45000 a year from his congressional pension, a total of about $150K per year.
Is this a great country or what?
By the way, I have had a rather substantial "mood disorder disability" ever since Obama got elected in 2008. I have not committed any felonies, have not been convicted and sentenced to prison and I don't get squat - other than a higher and higher tax bill every year and the privilege of watching our federal deficit grow every day of the year.

Fraud At Obamaphone, Inc.
Street-level vendors for TerraCom, Inc., a provider of government-subsidized phone service, were trained to forge signatures and falsify data, a former employee has told National Review Online and the Scripps National Investigative Team.
The federal government’s $2.189 billion Lifeline program, which is supposed to provide subsidized phone service to the poor, has become notorious for fraud and abuse. Earlier this year, the Federal Communications Commission reported the results of an audit of the top five Lifeline providers: It found 41 percent of beneficiaries — approximately 6 million subscribers — hadn’t proven their eligibility.
