The long reach of last summer's devastating U.S. drought has reversed the flow of the mighty Mississippi River — for corn, at least, with grain-laden barges beginning the rare movement north to Midwest ethanol plants from southern farms.
The shipments come as the U.S. faces a 17-year low in corn supplies by the end of the month due to the historic drought, which slashed harvests and sent grain prices to record highs a year ago.
The tight supply is upending the country's tradition-bound agricultural economy, which is holding its breath in the weeks before an expected record harvest begins some time next month following a wet spring and summer.

Ron Paul: "Authorized" Spying Is The Real Problem
Thanks to more documents leaked by Edward Snowden, this time to the Washington Post, we learned last week that a secret May 2012 internal audit by the National Security Agency (NSA) revealed 2,776 incidents of “unauthorized” collection of information on American citizens over the previous twelve months. They are routinely breaking their own rules and covering it up.
The Post article quotes an NSA spokesman assuring the paper that the NSA attempts to identify such problems “at the earliest possible moment.” But what happened to all those communications intercepted improperly in the meantime? The answer is, they were logged and stored anyway.
We also learned that the NSA routinely intercepts information from Americans while actually targeting foreigners, and that this is not even considered a violation. These intercepts are not deleted once discovered, even though they violate the government’s own standards. As the article reports, “once added to its databases, absent other restrictions, the communications of Americans may be searched freely.”

Another Obama Lie: The Secret FISA Court Admits it isn’t Capable of Oversight
This program, by the way, is fully overseen not just by Congress, but by the FISA Court — a court specially put together to evaluate classified programs to make sure that the executive branch, or government generally, is not abusing them, and that it’s being carried out consistent with the Constitution and rule of law.
- President Barack Obama on June 7, 2013 (transcript here)
The leader of the secret court that is supposed to provide critical oversight of the government’s vast spying programs said that its ability to do so is limited and that it must trust the government to report when it improperly spies on Americans.
- Washington Post article: Court: Ability to police U.S. spying program limited
I originally used the very top quote in my piece a month ago titled: Meet the Secret Supreme Court of the United States. In it, I pointed out how entirely ridiculous it is for Obama to tell us to rest assured there is oversight on the NSA spying as a result of the FISA Court, a secret court with secret “classified” rulings. Well now we find out that it is even more ridiculous than that, as the leader of the secret court itself admits it is incapable of doing its job. So is Barack Obama just completely clueless, or is he a pathological liar? You know what I think. From theWashington Post:

WHY WAS A GROUP OF TEXANS OPENLY CARRYING THEIR RIFLES WHILE MARCHING DOWN A LOCAL STREET THIS WEEKEND?
A group of Texans marched in downtown Arlington Sunday with rifles in hand to draw attention to what the Arlington Voice says they’re calling an “absurd” rule.
“Right now, Texas is one of seven states that do not allow open carry with a pistol,” 30-year-old Daniel Wood told the Arlington Voice. “Every one of us out here would much rather open carry our pistol than open carry our rifle.”

STAGGERING: MICH. FAMILY VIOLENTLY TARGETED AFTER STANDING AGAINST TEACHER WHO MOLESTED THEIR 8TH GRADE SON
The Janczewski family is fighting the local school district in Rose, Michigan after it emerged that a male teacher molested their 8th grade son and then — unbelievably — six other teachers spoke out against the 15-30 year sentence the man received.
“Neal has plead (sic) guilty for his one criminal offense but he is not a predator,” Harriet Coe reportedly wrote. “This was an isolated incident. He understands the severity of his action and is sincere in his desire to make amends…”
John Janczewski, the father of the victim, spoke on the Glenn Beck radio program Monday about all that has happened to his family since the horrific molestation by now-former Rose City Middle School teacher Neal Erickson came to light. He said he and his wife have been threatened and attacked for speaking out against the teachers.

Ron Paul Explains Why The 2,776 NSA Violations Are No Big Deal
Thanks to more documents leaked by Edward Snowden, this time to the Washington Post, we learned last week that a secret May 2012 internal audit by the NSA revealed 2,776 incidents of “unauthorized” collection of information on American citizens over the previous 12 months. The Post article quotes an NSA official explaining that the thousands of unauthorized communications intercepts yearly are relatively insignificant. “You can look at it as a percentage of our total activity that occurs each day. You look at a number in absolute terms that looks big, and when you look at it in relative terms, it looks a little different.”
So although the numbers of Americans who have had their information intercepted in violation of NSA’s own rules seems large, it is actually miniscule compared to the huge volume of our communications they intercept in total!

State’s Jobless Figure Matches National Rate Of 7.4%
Delaware’s July unemployment rate ended up matching the national jobless figure of 7.4 %.That was according to Delaware Department of Labor figures released on Friday.
At the same time, however, figures showed job growth was advancing at a faster pace than the national rate.
The department noted that two years ago, the national unemployment rate for July was 9 %; last July it was 8.2%, and last month it was 7.4%. The rate for the First State has barely moved, going from 7.6% to 7.3% and now 7.4% during the three months.- More

DOJ Picks Up Where FERC Left Off: Begins Investigation Of JPMorgan's "Enronesque" Energy Market Manipulation
On July 30, when FERC announced that it had agreed to resolve it allegations of JPMorgan manipulation of the energy market for a $410 million fine, with the bank neither admitting nor denying guilt, we posited that the only question on Jamie Dimon's mind was whether to pay the fine from petty cash or just to charge it on his corporate Amex. Three weeks later he may have some other questions swirling in his head, such as "whose Christmas lobbying stocking did I not fill with campaign donations?" after the WSJ reported that it is no longer FERC, but the DOJ itself, led by Preet Bharara, which is investigating whether JPM manipulated energy markets.
Ironically, this is a deja vu of the SAC take down by the same Bharara, when a few months after SAC settled with the SEC it was shocked to be crushed by the Department of Justice which pulled an "Arthur Anderson" on it and for all intents and purposes shut it down (although with nobody sent to prison). It remains to be seen if Bharara will have the balls to take this prosecution to the next level and whether after he made SAC into Arthur Anderson, he will make JPMorgan into the New Normal's Enron and whether Jamie Dimon or Blythe Masters will be the next Lay and/or Skilling. One can hope.

Hogan Blasts Falsehoods in O’Malley’s MACO Convention Speech
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley gave his 7th consecutive annual address to the Maryland Association of Counties Convention in Ocean City which focused on a litany of what the governor touted as his economic successes and achievements. Business Leader Larry Hogan took aim at the falsehoods in O’Malley’s speech. “He was not just stretching the truth, it’s worse than that. Nearly everything he said in his speech today was blatantly false, much of what he said was actually the complete opposite of the truth.”
Hogan, a former Maryland Cabinet Secretary said, “The governor is entitled to his own opinions but he can’t just make up his own facts and pretend that they are true.” Change Maryland recently showed that unemployment has nearly doubled under O’Malley from 3.6% to 7%, and the actual number of Marylanders unemployed grew from 108,000 to 218,000 people under O’Malley. “You can’t say you are most proud of your success in job creation, and say you recovered 99% of all the jobs lost, when you actually doubled the unemployment rate and lost 110,000 more jobs, more than any governor in history,” said Hogan, who founded the group Change Maryland.-

Transportation Funds To Create About 1,900 Jobs For The Eastern Shore
OCEAN CITY, Md. - Nearly 1,900 transportation-related jobs as part of a $160 million investment to improve safety and relieve congestion in the region, Gov. Martin O’Malley announced Friday.
According to a state news release, these projects were made possible by the Transportation Act of 2013 and include investing $50 million to begin construction next year on a new high-level, fixed-span bridge to replace the Dover Bridge.
"Maryland is delivering for the Eastern Shore. By investing in these projects, we improve safety, relieve congestion, and make Maryland an even more attractive place for companies to invest," said O'Malley in a statement. "Together, with the support of our local partners, we made the better choices to invest in the future of Maryland's transportation network, allowing us to create more than 57,200 jobs for our hardworking families and rebuild our state's infrastructure."

Bank Of America To Dissolve Merrill Lynch
Over four years ago, the federal government forced Bank of America to acquire Merrill Lynch. Last week, Bank of America signaled it will dissolve Merrill Lynch.
In 2009, Bank of America chief Kenneth Lewis testified that the federal government threatened to strip Bank of America board members if the bank reneged on acquiring Merrill Lynch. "What gave me concern is that they gave that threat to a bank in good standing," said Lewis.
Emails between bank employees revealed that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned that "management is gone" if Bank of America failed to go through with the deal and needed future financial assistance.
Bank of America went along with the Merrill Lynch deal and received $45 billion from TARP.

Senate Prez Calls Kittleman Seat ‘Winnable’ For Democrat
Senate President Mike Miller traveled over an hour to Ellicott City from his Chesapeake Beach home for breakfast Monday to introduce a Democratic candidate for Senate in District 9, Dan Medinger.
“Didn’t you draw this to be a Republican district?” asked MarylandReporter.com afterward.
With a straight face, Miller said, “We don’t draw districts for Democrats or Republicans.” But District 9, which includes all of western Howard County, most of Ellicott City, a sliver of Carroll County and a slice of Columbia, is about as reliably Republican as they come, home to Sen. Allan Kittleman, now running for Howard County executive, and Republican Del. Gail Bates who hopes to succeed him.

Maureen Dowd: Clintons Think 'They're Entitled To Everyone's Money'
On the heels of the exposé on waste and abuse of funds endemic in Bill and Hillary Clinton's charity organization, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd writes the former first couple are needy, think too much of themselves, and imagine they are "entitled to everyone's money."
The exposé, published in Times on August 13, revealed the Clinton Foundation has consistently run multi-million dollar deficits and is little else but a money machine to pay off Clinton cronies. It is this article that sparked Dowd's memory of the undercurrent of avarice and arrogance that has always flowed just under the Clintons' shiny exterior.

Nick Schulz is frustrated. He’s frustrated that economists talk about the role of institutions in the American economy, yet ignore the most fundamental one of them all: the family. With a career built on writing about the roots of economic growth, Schulz has realized that you can’t understand today’s economy—from the need for human capital to rising inequality— without considering the platoons of moms, dads, and children that form the backbone of American society.

Lawsuit Filed For TWA Flight 800 Information
A documentary producer is suing the government for military records connected with the 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800. Thomas Stalcup says he filed the lawsuits after receiving inadequate responses from the defense agencies to his open-records requests. He wants details from the Missile Defense Agency, the Naval Special Warfare Command and the Navy SEALs, which helped in the recovery effort. The National Transportation Safety Board says faulty wiring caused the plane to crash above New York. Stalcup suspects the plane was downed by a missile. He has asked the Board to reopen its four-year-long investigation.
SWAT TEAMS ENFORCING PROPERTY CODE VIOLATIONS AT GUNPOINT
The increasing use of SWAT teams across these United States is completely and totally incompatible with a free and civilized society. As I mentioned in my recent article about how there are now 50,000 SWAT raids in America annually, many of these military-styled operations target nonviolent offenders, and are often merely money making rackets for local police departments.
It appears the trend is getting even worse. Just like cops will pull you over on the highway and claim to “smell marijuana” as an excuse to violate your 4th Amendment rights, this claim of drugs being present is now being used to SWAT raid organic farms. Or perhaps it’s just because your neighbor thinks your yard is untidy. The story below is nothing short of a complete and total disgrace and we should not stand for this sort of behavior any longer. From the Huffington Post:

Man — a creature made at the end of the week’s work when God was tired.
The trouble is that the stupid people — who constitute the grand overwhelming majority of this and all other nations — do believe and are molded and convinced by what they get out of a newspaper.
It is just like man’s vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.
The trouble ain’t that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain’t distributed right.
Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn’t any. But this wrongs the jackass.
Sacred cows make the best hamburger.
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity there ain’t nothing can beat teamwork.
I didn’t attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.
Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.
I don’t suppose there was much danger. People born to be hanged are safe in water.

Candidates Vie For Pipkin’s Vacated State Senate Seat; Queen Anne’s County Dominates Field Of 14
The iron grip held on the four-county 36th legislative district by former state Sen. E.J. Pipkin ( R) for over a decade has crumbled in the past week since he announced his resignation and departure from Maryland, with a crowded field of hopefuls lining up to to seek appointment to his seat. By early evening Monday, there were 14 declared candidates, sources said.
But the political dynamic of the contest— which is, at least initially, in the hands of the Republican Central Committees in each of the four counties comprising the district—could be complicated by the sheer volume of candidates and the potential for the Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley to have the final say if the committees do not unite on a single candidate.

Moral Compromise Is A-OK
A letter which was recently signed by a number of Tennessee conservative groups is causing quite a stir, especially in the left-wing blogosphere. The letter urges Tennessee’s incumbent Republican senator, the proudly moderate Lamar Alexander, to forego the rigors of another campaign and retire with dignity, or, as the media puts it, face a challenge from “the Right.”
The portion of the letter which has received the most attention reads: “During your tenure in the Senate we have no doubt that you voted in a way which you felt was appropriate.Unfortunately, our great nation can no longer afford compromise and bipartisanship, two traits for which you have become famous. America faces serious challenges and needs policymakers who will defend conservative values, not work with those who are actively undermining those values.”
I was the one who suggested this particular passage in the letter.

BLACK AMERICAN CITIZENS FILE “ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT” AGAINST OBAMA
The National Black Republican Association (NBRA) based in Sarasota, FL, headed by Chairman Frances Rice, filed Articles of Impeachment against President Barack Obama with the following language:
We, black American citizens, in order to free ourselves and our fellow citizens from governmental tyranny, do herewith submit these Articles of Impeachment to Congress for the removal of President Barack H. Obama, aka, Barry Soetoro, from office for his attack on liberty and commission of egregious acts of despotism that constitute high crimes and misdemeanors.
On July 4, 1776, the founders of our nation declared their independence from governmental tyranny and reaffirmed their faith in independence with the ratification of the Bill of Rights in 1791. Asserting their right to break free from the tyranny of a nation that denied them the civil liberties that are our birthright, the founders declared:
“When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” - Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON PRELIMINARY JULY JOBS REPORT
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor’s release of preliminary employment data for the month of July:
“While this month’s preliminary jobs report was disappointing, Maryland continues to show tremendous economic strength, having created 39,000 new jobs over the past 12 months. Our recovery from the recession has been fueled by a dynamic private sector that led the way by creating 9 out of every 10 new jobs. And Maryland’s unemployment rate, while still too high, remains four percent below the national average.
“A broad array of economic indicators continue to show Maryland’s economic strength- home sales are up 27% over-the-year, our median home sales price increased 10% over-the-year, reaching a five-year-high, and new unemployment insurance claims are down more than 4% compared to last July. In fact, new unemployment insurance claims have declined annually in 24 of the last 26 months. We expect the Bureau of Labor Statistics may once again significantly revise these preliminary numbers as they have in past months and years. For example, last month's preliminary jobs growth of 4,300 jobs was revised upwards by 1,200 to a net growth of 5,500 new jobs.
“In addition, all three bond rating agencies recently re-affirmed Maryland’s fiscally responsible approach by certifying our State as one of only nine with a Triple A bond rating. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranks Maryland #1 for entrepreneurship and innovation for the second year in a row and in the top ten for economic performance for the fourth consecutive year. We know that there is still more work to be done, but by coming together to make the better choices to invest in a stronger future, we will continue to create opportunities that fuel a strong, growing and upwardly mobile middle class.”

Obama's Bumbling Handing Egypt Over To Russia
So the great liberal hope, Barack Obama, who was going to bring peace to the world with a smile and an apology, has instead lost us the entire Middle East. That's what it's looking like as the Egyptian military steps up and goes toe to toe with the Muslim Brotherhood's church-burning, human-shield-using mob. The death toll now that the army has begun using bullets is already around a hundred or more, and the military government is considering banning the Muslim Brotherhood.

The United States Of Racism
To anyone who has been following the really big stories in the news – and by big, I don’t mean the silliness surrounding IRS, EPA, NSA, ObamaCare or Benghazi – it has become obvious. This is a racist country. Indeed, it is a horribly racist place.
It’s not like it used to be, with Klan rallies, Jim Crow and governors standing in schoolhouse doors. It’s much more subtle and insidious now, and it permeates every aspect of American life.
I’ve avoided saying it for a while now, but I can’t be silent anymore.
I’m talking, of course, about the really big story of the last week – the scourge of racism exposed by a simple rodeo clown at the Missouri State Fair. The aftermath of what happened there should disturb every American interested in equality.
The racist act was not some unnamed guy wearing a Barack Obama mask and lampooning the president. Nor was it Tuffy Gessling, the now “banned for life” rodeo performer who was on the microphone. No, the racist act isn’t a single act; it’s a constant series of acts committed by progressives, Democrats and their allies. It’s the insistence President Obama not be held to the same standards, not be treated the same way as other presidents and other politicians simply because of race.
It’s not breaking news the president is black. Most people, especially those of us born after the babyboomers, couldn’t care less. It was indeed a much bigger deal 40 years ago, but we are not our grandparents’ generation. The world has changed. Peoples have stopped caring about race. We’ve stopped caring about a lot of things the people in charge still obsess over, but none more than race.
