Carrot, Egg and Coffee. Which One Are You?

Carrot, Egg, and Coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again...

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see. "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?" Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity -- boiling water. Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became
hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial
hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

State Department Official: Knew From 'Get Go’ Benghazi Strike Was Terror Attack

A top State Department official scheduled to give congressional testimony this week on the fatal attacks on the U.S. outpost in Benghazi, Libya, says he knew immediately they were terror strikes, not a protest turned violent, according to interview transcripts released Sunday.

“I thought it was a terrorist attack from the get go,” says Greg Hicks, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya at the time of the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks. “I think everybody in the mission thought it was a terrorist attack from the beginning.”

Hicks is one of two self-described State Department “whistle-blowers” scheduled to testify Wednesday before the Republican-led House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee. The other is Mark Thompson, a former Marine and now the deputy coordinator for operations in the agency’s Counterterrorism Bureau.

Maryland Highway Agency Uses High-Tech Vehicle To Snoop For Pavement Problems

George Foster and Terry Weller know the Maryland state roads inch by inch, rut by rut, frost heave by frost heave.

Each year, the two employees of the State Highway Administration drive thousands of miles in a million-dollar vehicle that looks like a big, orange ambulance. The vehicle, called an “Automated Road Analyzer,” or ARAN for short, is stuffed with high-definition cameras, positioning systems and measuring devices.

Pavement has no privacy from their relentless scrutiny. Foster and Weller take the ARAN for exactly the same drives every year. When they return, they hand over hard drives. The data, about a gigabyte per mile, will reveal detailed images of the roads’ bumps and grooves, along with electronic measurements of every flaw.

Horse With Maryland Ties Wins Kentucky Derby

Orb splashed through the slop to win the Kentucky Derby, giving Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey his first victory in the 3-year-old classic.

When the field turned for home on the cool, overcast Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs, Normandy Invasion grabbed the lead while Orb was gearing up. But in the deep stretch, Orb prevailed, carrying Joel Rosario to his first Derby win.

Long shot Golden Soul was second with Revolutionary third.

Normandy Invasion faded to fourth.

Orb, the 5-1 favorite, ran the 1¼ miles in 2:02.89.

NRA CEO: "Boston Proves" Gun Control Is Dangerous

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre linked the April 15 Boston bombings with the ongoing struggle over gun laws in America on Saturday, asking the audience at the annual NRA convention in Houston, "How many Bostonians wish they had a gun two weeks ago?"

"Imagine living in a large metropolitan area where lawful firearms ownership is heavily regulated and discouraged," LaPierre said. "Imagine waking up to a phone call from the police, warning that a terrorist event is occurring outside and ordering you to stay inside your home."

"I'm talking, of course, about Boston, where residents were imprisoned behind the locked doors of their homes, a terrorist with bombs and guns just outside," he said. "Frightened citizens, sheltered in place, with no means to defend themselves or their families from whatever may come crashing through the door."

Report: Immigrants Rob American Jobs

An exhaustive new report on the nation's top 472 occupations finds that immigrants -- legal or not -- take some jobs from Americans, dispelling the accepted view that foreign workers only fill jobs Americans don't want to do.

The study based on U.S. census data from 2009 to 2011 found that of the 472 jobs, immigrant workers outnumber "native-born" Americans in only six occupations: sewing machine operator, agriculture, masonry, plasterer, fruit and vegetable sorter, and tailor.

The group found no occupation where illegal immigrants dominated. In fact, many jobs assumed to be majority immigrant aren't. For example, 51 percent of maids are American-born, 64 percent of landscapers are American and 66 percent of construction laborers are natives.

POPE FRANCIS URGES BISHOPS TO DENY COMMUNION TO PRO-ABORTION CATHOLICS

Pope Francis has directed the bishops of Argentina, his home country, to govern the Church there following a document that makes clear that holy communion should be disallowed for any person who facilitates abortion, including politicians.

“These are the guidelines we need for this time in history,” the pope wrote to the bishops.

According to LifeSiteNews, Pope Francis emphasized use of the Aparecida Document as a framework in a letter to the Argentine Assembly of Bishops sent in late March. In 2007, then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio--now Pope Francis--first presented the document on behalf of the bishops of Latin America.

Cardinal Bergoglio was highly critical of those who promoted the “death sentence” of abortion for unborn children in Argentina. His criticism peaked following a clandestine abortion performed on a mentally disabled woman with the assistance of the nation’s health minister.

Hill Aides: White House Recalculates Spending Cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House budget office is recalculating how to apply automatic spending cuts for a handful of agencies, freeing up almost $4 billion for the Pentagon and another $1 billion or so for other agencies like the Homeland Security Department and NASA.

Capitol Hill aides familiar with the White House changes say the administration has identified almost $5 billion in cuts that can be restored under its reading of the arcane budget rules governing the across-the-board cuts, known as sequestration.

The calculations differ from earlier ones because a partial-year funding bill was replaced in March with a more detailed measure. After administration number crunchers redid their math they were able to restore about $5 billion of the scheduled $85 billion in automatic sequestration cuts under a complicated, previously unused mechanism that dates to a 1985 budget law.

DELAWARE FIRST STATE SINCE ROE V. WADE WITH NO SURGICAL ABORTIONS

Planned Parenthood of Delaware has suspended surgical abortions, making Delaware the first state to offer no surgical abortions since Roe v. Wadedecriminalized abortion in 1973.

According to LifeNews, the Planned Parenthood clinic in Dover has suspended surgical abortions, and the Wilmington affiliate has closed entirely for administrative functions.

As Breitbart News earlier reported, a series of five 911 calls placed from Planned Parenthood of Delaware, for women in abortion-related emergency situations, has prompted a new state investigation. Two former nurse employees have described horrific and unsafe conditions in the clinic. Additionally, pro-life organization Operation Rescue discovered that another employee, abortionist Eric Schaff, had a history of disciplinary action for falsifying medical records in New York prior to moving on to work in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Reid: More Funding Needed To Prevent ObamaCare From Becoming 'Train Wreck'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says he shares colleagues’ concerns that the Affordable Care Act could become a “train wreck” if it’s not implemented properly.

Reid warned that people will not be able to choose health insurance plans on government health exchanges if federal authorities lack the resources to set them up and educate the public.

“Max said unless we implement this properly it’s going to be a train wreck, and I agree with him,” Reid said, echoing a warning delivered last month by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.).

Pew Study: Many Muslims Believe In Mixing Mosque And State

Most Muslims around the globe tend to be deeply committed to their faith and believe that it should shape not only their personal lives, but the societies they live in, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center (PDF).

Pew's face-to-face survey of more than 38,000 Muslims, including many in the United States, between 2008-12 produced a telling snapshot of attitudes and beliefs.

"In all but a handful of the 39 countries surveyed, a majority of Muslims say that Islam is the one true faith leading to eternal life in heaven, and that belief in God is necessary to be a moral person," the survey released Tuesday concludes. It adds that "many also think that their religious leaders should have at least some influence over political matters. And many express a desire for sharia — traditional Islamic law — to be recognized as the official law of their country."

Maryland and Oregon Extend Driving Privileges to All Immigrants

Maryland and Oregon are celebrating the signing of new laws expanding access to driver's licenses to all residents, including undocumented immigrants. We are part of a movement. Our hope is that our success inspires the passage of bills in more than a dozen other states considering similar measures.

In most states today, it is difficult, if not impossible, for people to go about their daily lives without the ability to drive. Simple but essential tasks such as driving kids to school or to extracurricular activities, picking up groceries, going to the doctor, and traveling to workbecome riddled with hardship. As a result, people without access to driver's licenses are faced with the difficult "choice" of either not meeting their basic needs or driving and risking arrest and other negative repercussions.

Against this backdrop, having a driver's license can provide critical protection for immigrants' civil rights. Across the country, immigrants are subjected to harassment, racial profiling, and needless arrest and detention by law enforcement officials who use driving without a license to route aspiring citizens into deportation proceedings. Many immigrants have been driven into the shadows as a result, living in fear of these consequences every time they find themselves compelled to get behind the wheel of a car. At least in Maryland and Oregon, they will now be able to get driver's licenses—and having a drivers' license means no longer having to live with that fear.

Muslims In Maryland Petition Schools To Close On Eid, Like On Christmas, Yom Kippur

Schools are usually closed on Easter Monday and Rosh Hashanah—why not Eid al-Fitr?

That’s the question Mimi Hassanein, a resident of Brinkow, Md., asks herself every time the Eids fall on a school day. The two most important Islamic holidays —Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha —are traditionally spent praying and feasting with family and friends. But Hassanein says that every year, her grandchildren and other Muslim youth in her school district are forced to choose between their religion and their grades.

“Of course it’s hard when they miss a class and have to make up an exam,” the grandmother told the New York Daily News. “But it’s like asking them to go to school on Christmas.”

96% Of The FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists Are Muslim

And the other four percent is a single animal rights activist. I blame Islamophobia for this shameless terrorist profiling. Also reality.

Interesting that with all of the obfuscation about domestic terrorism and Christian terrorism and Jewish and Lutheran and Episcopalian and Amish terrorism, 30 of 31 on the list are Muslim.

It’s easy to stand in front of a malleable press corps and claim that terrorism is not the exclusive domain of Islam, but when it comes to actual facts, they haven’t arrived at manufacturing charges….yet.

Obama’s Lifeline to the Boston Bomber

The Obama administration is reportedly negotiating a plea bargain that would spare the life of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and that could allow the FBI to continue interrogating the suspect about other terrorist plots.

NBC News reports that federal prosecutors and Tsarnaev’s lawyers “have begun very early discussions about a possible deal in which he could avoid the death penalty in return for a full accounting to the FBI of what happened and why as investigators continue working to find those answers for themselves.”

Talk of a legal settlement that would allow Tsarnaev to escape execution comes after high-powered attorney Judy Clarke, a death-penalty specialist from San Diego, was added to Tsarnaev’s legal defense team earlier this week. U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler approved Clarke’s appointment Monday.

Family Alleges Church Negligent, Liable In Woman’s Death; Violent Predator’s Background Never Disclosed To Victim

BERLIN -- The family of a woman found murdered along a rural road in northern Worcester County last August has filed a wrongful death civil suit against the church where she worked and its pastor.

Last August, a Worcester County grand jury indicted Matthew N. Burton, 29, of Dagsboro, on eight counts including first-degree murder and first-degree rape in the death of Nicole Bennett, 35, of Millsboro, whose body was found on a roadside embankment in Whaleyville in Worcester County on the morning of June 15 last year.

On April 17, the victim’s husband, Kevin Bennett, and his family filed a wrongful death suit in Delaware Superior Court against the Bay Shore Community Church in Millsboro and Pastor Danny Tice, alleging the defendants were aware of Burton’s rape convictions and violent past and allowed him to work alone at the church with Nicole Bennett on the night she was murdered.

SOMEONE IS IN TROUBLE OVER THIS FACEBOOK POST

Barry West, a county commissioner in Coffee County, Tenn., is facing backlash after he posted a photo of a man aiming what appears to be a double-barreled shotgun with the caption, “How to wink at a Muslim” above it.

The Facebook post has since ignited a good deal of outrage. West responded to his critics by claiming he meant for it to be humorous. The official later deleted the post but did not issue an apology, WSMV-TV reports.

“I thought it was humorous,” West told The Tullahoma News, adding that he is “prejudiced against anyone who’s trying to tear down this country.”

Wicomico County Job Base Continues to Diminish - Latest BLS Numbers For March 2013 Show Wicomico Lost 1002 Jobs Compared to March 2012

Wicomico County continues to bleed jobs as the latest BLS numbers show that Wicomico County lost 1002 jobs in March 2013 verses March 2012.  This is the second worse monthly reporting in the past year as February recorded the worst monthly loss - (1167).  The Bureau of Labor Statistics Workforce indicator shows that the county's workforce is diminishing despite a population increase.  What this information indicates is that as people exhaust their unemployment benefits - they are still essentially unemployed.  Even though the overall unemployment rate shows a slight decline - the more accurate way of assessing our overall job base strength is through increased employment - and that is simply not happening.
