AMERICANS RALLY AROUND YOUNG OBAMACARE VICTIM

In a nationwide outpouring of prayer and support since Thanksgiving Day, Americans have donated more than $41,000 to a 7-year-old Texas boy with a rare type of cancer who lost his insurance coverage after the Oct. 1 Obamacare launch.

The Thanksgiving response came after the Drudge Report linked the WND story. Donations at the time totaled $11,000. Now they are over $51,000.

As WND reported, Gainesville, Texas, residents Ron and Krista Alford have two children, Hunter and his sister, Makayla, who were both born with an extremely rare form of cancer called Plexiform Hishocyne Neoplasm.

The Ultimate Crony Capitalist

This is an adaptation of chapter 10 from Hunter Lewis’s book Crony Capitalism in America: 2008-2012.

During the presidential campaign of 2012, an online commentator observed that President Obama had not met with his Jobs Council for six months. How could this be, the commentator asked, when jobs were foremost on the president’s agenda? The answer was not hard to discover.

The Council was headed by General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, a noted Obama political backer. Other members included Penny Pritzker, an heiress who served as Obama’s finance chairwoman in 2008, and Richard Trumpka, president of the AFL-CIO, one of the largest Obama campaign contributors. The group was established after the 2010 mid-term election losses as a device to emphasize the administration’s focus on jobs but, more importantly, to recognize political allies and campaign donors and prepare for the 2012 presidential election. This was more or less acknowledged when, after the president’s re-election, it was disbanded, despite the persistence of high unemployment.

Why had the president chosen General Electric’s Immelt in particular as the head of this campaign arm? For one reason, Immelt was sympathetic to the president’s brand of state-led capitalism. He had gone so far as to say of China in a television interview: “The one thing that actually works, state run communism, may not be your cup of tea, but their government works.”[1]

‘AND WAMMMMMM’: TEENS RANDOMLY TARGET, BEAT UP SENIOR CITIZENS

A Fort Myers, Fla., teen was arrested this week for attacking senior citizens.

Traveshia Blanks is charged with two counts of battery in the seemingly random and senseless attacks, according to WBBH-TV.

One 72-year-old victim told the news station he was weeding his garden Tuesday when he was kicked from behind. The victim fell to the ground and said he saw a woman walking away laughing, joining a group of people.

“I was in shock. Who would expect anything from out of the blue to happen like that. There’s no reason had I done something or said something,” the victim told WBBH.

Was 72-Year Old Woman Latest Knockout Game Victim?

It isn’t enough for the thugs violently assaulting Jews in Crown Heights, New York, as part of the “knockout game,” to pick on a 12-year old boy; they apparently are now attacking elderly women.

Mira Harpazi, 72, was walking near her home at the Starret City housing complex in Brooklyn when a man in his 20s punched her in the face. She joined another elderly woman, 78, who had also been assaulted in a previous attack.

Because the police have been ineffective at protecting the Jewish community in the area, the Guardian Angels took to the streets in Brooklyn on Tuesday to do so. The Angels issued a press release saying they would “focus on protecting the elderly Jews in that area, who are subject to copycat attacks.”

Unusual Ice Circle Discovered In Sheyenne River

BISMARCK — When George Loegering saw a large spinning circle of ice in the Sheyenne River while out hunting with relatives, the retired engineer couldn't believe his eyes.

"At first I thought, no way! It was surreal," Loegering, 73, said Tuesday of the large ice disk he witnessed Saturday. "You looked at it and you thought, how did it do that?"

Then his engineering background kicked in. He calculated the disk's diameter to be about 55 feet, took photos and videos of it and then turned to the Internet for more information about what he, his brother-in-law and nephew had seen.

"It's not an unknown phenomenon, but it is relatively rare," said Loegering, who lives in rural Casselton, about 20 miles west of Fargo.

Air Force Sgt. Matt Pinkerton Fires 2 Fatal Shots At Home Intruder - Now Faces 2nd Degree Murder Charge

In the wee hours of the morning on September 13th, Air Force Sgt. Matt Pinkerton and his wife were entertaining guests at their home when an acquaintance of Mrs. Pinkerton’s came knocking.

It was 2 AM. After being told to leave by Matt Pinkerton, who closed the door, Kendall Green decided that he’d kick it in and force his way into the home.

Matt Pinkerton, having armed himself with his Glock17 9mm prior to approaching the door, then proceeded to discharge two rounds into Green.

Green was subsequently killed in an obvious act of self defense.

THE WHIG PARTY IS BACK, SEEKING TO BRIDGE PARTISAN FIGHTING

The Whigs, the 19th century political party that disbanded before the Civil War over the question of slavery, is trying making a comeback as the voice of reason between embittered modern day Republicans and Democrats.

In Philadelphia, the election of Heshy Bucholz, a software engineer and first candidate to run and win as a Whig in that city in 157 years, has brought national attention to the party and spurred hundreds of new members to sign up.

In Maryland, where the Whigs held four of their national conventions in the mid-19th century, the hub of the renaissance is in Cecil County. Tim Zane, a registered Republican and a former vice president and senior cash manager at a large international bank, is in talks to be in charge of the Maryland branch of the new and improved Modern Whig Party.

Environmentalism Is The New Racism

At the heart of all the left’s political agendas is wealth redistribution. That is as true of the Global Warming eco-scam as it is of anything else.
The left knows that idealism is a puny force compared to the power of profit. It may employ the slogans of idealism, recruiting college students to wave signs, dress up as polar bears and cry Armageddon;  but it uses the appeal of cold hard cash to invest as many people as it can into its cause.
Wealth redistribution gave the left a firm grip on power in America. No matter how many lies it tells or how many crimes it commits, it knows that when election time comes around those who profit from its wealth redistribution programs will flock to the polls; caring about nothing but their own bottom line.
The Global Warming scheme began the same way with tiers of economic interest.

Outcry Leads To State Farm Plan Fizzling Out

BERLIN — The Eastern Shore farming community breathed a collective sigh of relief last week after the Maryland Department of Agriculture announced it was postponing the implementation of the controversial Phosphorous Management Tool (PMT) and was going back to the drawing board on the controversial issue.

The new tool developed by the University of Maryland would have determined acceptable levels of phosphorous in the state’s farm fields that leach into streams and tributaries and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. Under the proposal, if phosphorous levels taken at farm fields all over the state and particularly on the Eastern Shore exceeded the new standard, farmers would not be allowed to use organic chicken manure as farm fertilizer and would be forced to purchase much more expensive chemical fertilizers.

The PMT appeared to be on the fast track for approval, despite overwhelming concern raised by the state’s farming community. Earlier this month, however, the Maryland Department of Agriculture announced it was postponing the implementation of the PMT after considerable public outrage was expressed at various public forums across the shore this fall and decided to go back to the drawing board with the plan.

I Work For The Government

My name is Ronn Torossian and I work for the government. Avid readers of Front Page Magazine may have thought I was a public relations firm owner and author, however, I work for the government more than I work for anyone else. This week, I was shocked when my accountant provided me with 2013 tax estimates showing that as a New York City resident, my effective tax rate will be 55 percent. What you read is correct, 55 percent of the year I work for the American government!

That being said, unlike most other government employees, I don’t have a guaranteed pension, don’t work plush hours of 9-to-5 with four weeks guaranteed vacation, actually have to be held accountable for what I do, assume responsibility for the employment of over 100 people, balance a budget…and work hard.

Let’s review where my astounding 55 percent taxes went. Nineteen percent of the federal government’s budget pays for “defense and security-related international activities,” which basically can be translated as ensuring that our country provides for despots and dictators while making sure no one harms Iran’s precious nuclear weapons. Of course, it will also pay to create havoc in the Middle East – none of which is in America’s interest. Twenty-two percent of the federal government’s budget pays for Social Security, which likely won’t exist when it’s my turn to depend on it.

INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MARYLAND YOUTH WITH AUTISM

At first glance, the crowded theatre looks just like any other day at the movies. But as a popular, new animated feature begins to play, the lights remain on and the sound is turned low while audience members murmur and interact with the movie.

AMC Theatres’ Sensory Friendly Films are one of a growing number of specially-designed activities for Maryland children and teens on the autism spectrum. Because of their high sensitivity to external stimuli, those affected by autism spectrum disorder often have difficulty participating in traditional entertainment activities, said Shelly McLaughlin, communication director of Maryland’s largest autism resource center, Pathfinders For Autism.

“It’s incredibly difficult for them to filter things out [like] background noises, visual stimuli,” she said. “Everything is coming at them with the same intensity.”

OBAMA SERVES ARREST WARNINGS TO 14 GOVERNORS

Barack Hussein Obama has served 14-State Governors in the United States, National Security Letters (NSLs) warning that the Governor’s actions in attempting to form “State Defense Forces” needs to be halted “immediately” or they will face arrest for the crime of treason. The employment of NSLs was authorized by the Patriot Act introduced by George W. Bush. Contained within the section related to these letters, it is forbidden for anyone receiving a NSL warning to even acknowledge the existence of said communication.

Obama is angered by the several State Governors who have reestablished “State Defense Forces.” These forces are described as: “State Defense Forces (also known as State Guards, State Military Reserves, State Militias) in the United States are military units that operate under the sole authority of a state government; they are not regulated by the National Guard Bureau nor are they part of the Army National Guard of the United States. State Defense Forces are authorized by state and federal law and are under the command of the governor of each state. State Defense Forces are distinct from their state’s National Guard in that they cannot become federal entities.”

Funeral Set For Ocean City Pastor Killed In Fire

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - A funeral service has been scheduled for an Ocean City pastor who died in a fire at his church.

The Rev. David Dingwall died Tuesday after a fire broke out at Saint-Paul's-By-Sea Episcopal Church. A funeral for Dingwall is scheduled for Dec. 3 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ocean City.

Investigators believe the fire started when a man ran into the building with his clothes on fire. That man, 56-year-old John Sterner, also died. A third person, a woman who volunteers at the church, was critically injured in the fire.

Fire and police investigators are still investigating the blaze.

Proof: Gun Registration Leads To Confiscation

Gun confiscations begin in New York, aided by existing firearms registry

In the wake of New York’s latest gun control law, the New York Police Department is now sending out notices to registered gun owners demanding that they give up their firearms, clear proof that gun registration leads to outright confiscations.

The notice provides gun owners, who possess firearms now prohibited under New York’s unconstitutional SAFE Act, the “options” to either surrender their firearms to the police, remove them from the city limits or otherwise render them inoperable.

The NYPD knew exactly who to send the notices to by using a centralized firearms registry which lists the city’s gun owners and what firearms they have in their possession.

Probe Confirms Man Entered Rectory On Fire; Reverend Dies In Church Fire; ‘He Was An Excellent Preacher’

OCEAN CITY — While area residents mourn the loss of a pillar in the religious community, an ongoing investigation has confirmed a man entered an Ocean City church rectory on fire Tuesday morning.

The three-alarm fire at the rectory of the St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church occurred Tuesday around 9:25 a.m. when Ocean City Communications was alerted to a fire at St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, specifically its rectory located along Baltimore Ave. near 3rd Street. Flames were found emanating from the rectory building when crews arrived.

Although authorities continue to probe the blaze and its cause, early indications are foul play was involved on some level and that one of the individuals who died is responsible for the blaze. That much was confirmed by the Ocean City Fire Department investigation on Wednesday in a statement.

Seeing Red: DC Mayor Makes Good On Pledge To Cover City In Traffic Cams

WASHINGTON – The mayor of the nation’s capital wasn’t kidding last year when he said he wanted to “cover the entire city” in traffic cameras.

The District of Columbia -- which in 2012 hauled in roughly $85 million in traffic-ticket revenue -- has doubled its dragnet of cameras to nearly 200 with a “new generation” of devices which critics say also take aim at law-abiding motorists blocked in crosswalks and intersections. The move has sparked concern from driver-advocacy group AAA that municipal leaders may be going to new lengths to monitor and punish motorists.

“Some cities will have some of these new cameras,” Lon Anderson, AAA Mid-Atlantic’s director of public and government relations, said. “But none will have this full of an arsenal.”

Payday Lenders Find Loopholes To Target Troops

The payday loan institutions that operate outside military bases have found loopholes in existing law and created new lending scams to prey on servicemembers, federal and state regulators warned Congress last week.

"There are scoundrels out there and they have to be uncovered," Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said Thursday at a hearing on predatory lending practices aimed at the military.

Young servicemembers make appealing targets for "unscrupulous" businessmen who hide interest rates that can exceed 300 percent in the fine print and threaten to disclose the debts to commanders to exact payment, Rockefeller said.

Green Sea Turtle Rehabbing At Aquarium After Being Found In OC

OCEAN CITY — A cold stunned green sea turtle that was transported from Ocean City to the Baltimore National Aquarium this week is recovering but still vulnerable.

“He isn’t completely out of the woods yet,” said Jennifer Dittmar, manager of the National Aquarium Animal Rescue team. “We consider him to be in critical condition. But he is showing improvement over the last 24 hours, which is a good sign.”

Dittmar clarified that while she is referring to the green sea turtle as “he” the gender of the turtle has not been identified, as it is a juvenile. The turtle is probably between 2 and 5 years old and weighed about five pounds when admitted into the aquarium.
The turtle has been confirmed as a green sea turtle, a species that’s uncommon to the waters around Ocean City.

Will You Pay The Banksters To Hold Your Money?

Americans may have to start paying to keep money in the bank. Retail banks have warned they might need to start charging customers and companies for deposits if the US Federal Reserve cuts interest it pays on bank reserves.

The message from the US banks comes as fears grow the Fed could start tapering its $85 billion monthly bond purchases, the Financial Times reports. Less money injected could mean the US authorities will start using alternative tools to boost the economy, like cutting interest rates.

The US Fed took the drastic decision to cut interest rates to near-zero to help stabilize the economy after the 2008 financial collapse and the following recession. This allowed banks to pay less for the money they borrow.

For the last five years, the benchmark overnight lending rate between banks has been in the range of zero to 0.25 percent.

Why Is President Obama Trying To Politicize The Holidays?

During a recent stay in Berlin, I visited the old headquarters of the East German Ministry of State Security, better known as the Stasi. The building, in a suitably bleak part of what used to be East Berlin, is now a museum devoted to the communist surveillance state. The upper floors display some of the tools of that surveillance -- miniature cameras, listening devices, files on everything -- that the German Democratic Republic used to control every aspect of its citizens' lives.

But the first floor of the Stasi Museum is not about spying. Instead, it is devoted to the propaganda that East German bureaucrats used to foster socialist consciousness in an unwilling public. One display explains the GDR's efforts in the 1950s to politicize what in the past had been family and religious occasions. The state sought to transform weddings, confirmations, and other personal events into "socialist celebrations," to be "committed collectively and aimed at a confession to socialism," according to the awkward English translation of the exhibit.

The exhibition informs visitors that the project "did not gain popular acceptance." Amazingly enough, people didn't want to turn their family holidays into socialist celebrations.

Here at home, this Thanksgiving brings an effort by the Obama administration to turn a day of giving thanks into a day of discussion about the virtues of national health care. On Wednesday afternoon, just hours before Thanksgiving, President Obama's Twitter account -- which has more than 40 million followers -- sent out this message: "Make sure everyone who sits down with you for #Thanksgivukkah dinner is covered." ("Thanksgivukkah" refers to this year's rare overlap of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah.)

State Health Campaign Seeks Salisbury Involvement

The Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cities and Towns Campaign, which in this state is a partnership between the Institute for Public Health Innovation and the Maryland Municipal League, met with the council on Nov. 18 and asked Salisbury to join four other Maryland towns which have signed on.
“You, as local government leaders, have a role to play to assure that these obesity rates do not continue to rise,” said Marissa Jones, a representative for HEAL.

Obesity rates in the nation and statewide have been seeing a steady and alarming rise over the past few decades. In youth, especially, rates have spiked.

Maryland’s Health Exchange Needs A Doctor

TEN THOUSAND people a day are submitting health-care insurance applications in California, a state where officials embraced President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Kentucky’s governor has presided over a relatively error-free implementation of the law in his state, showing leaders across the South what they could do if they cooperated instead of rooting for the policy to fail.

You would have expected similar results in Democrat-controlled Maryland, where officials decided to take charge, instead of punting responsibility for new insurance marketplaces to the feds. Instead, the state’s rollout, led by Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D), has been an embarrassment.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 11-30-13

Rockawalkin School

We have in Salisbury a gem of history in the Rockawalkin School. It sits on the corner of Pemberton Drive and Ellegood Street at the Pemberton Elementary School. It originally sat on the northeast corner of Route 349 (Nanticoke Road) and Rockawalkin Road. The original piece of land for it was bought in 1869 from Ann and Christopher Columbus Fooks and Hugh Ellingsworth. The school was built about three years later for the community of Rockawalkin. It housed children in grades one through seven. When it closed in 1938, there were only five grades.

The inside of the school house is as close to a 19th Century one-room school house as you can get. The teacher’s desk, the pot-bellied stove with its accompanying coal bucket, the small to mid-sized desks with their period ink wells and the books are all reminiscent of a time long ago. There is also a water bucket with a ladle that everyone used to get a drink There are many things on display that would have been used by the children of a long ago era. The crayons, pencil boxes, individual slate boards remind us that things were not always as easy as they are now. The pull down map in the front of the classroom shows the world prior to the First World War.

It really takes you back in time just to be in the school house. A teacher at Pemberton Elementary School, Melba Klepner, takes her class through the building every year and, to my knowledge, that is the extent of visitors annually. Two years ago, the Wicomico Historical Society opened it up on the weekend they held the Winefest at Pemberton Park that had an attendance of about 7,000. The school house is on the way to Pemberton, and we had ample signage out front advertising that the school was open. In ten hours over two days, exactly 12 people stopped by to visit. I recently opened the school house for American Education Week and conducted 30 half-hour classes in four days. The children loved it,

The Rockawalkin School is owned by the Wicomico Historical Society, and the maintenance is furnished by the Board of Education. Extensive upkeep is required to maintain such an historic structure and it has recently had new windows installed, been painted, had ventilation windows installed in the foundation, a floor installed in the back room and an application of boiled linseed oil applied to the cedar shingles on the roof to make them lie flat. It is in superb shape, and anyone can see it by contacting me. I will open it up anytime for anyone.

It hasn’t been used as a school since June, 1938. For awhile it was the store and gas station of Leonard and Annalee Johnson. When they ceased commercial operations, they deeded it to the Wicomico Historical Society and the Board of Education. It was moved to its present location and has been there since 1973.

One thing that had to give way to the present was the two “little houses” out back. Since the school was built long before indoor plumbing was the acceptable norm, the two outhouses were for the convenience of the boys and girls who attended the school.

Most of the children walked to and from school. In this modern age, of the 14,500 students attending schools in Wicomico County, 12,500 of them are bussed in some form or another. The maintenance of the school was the responsibility of the only teacher in the school. She had one of the larger boys come in early in the winter to fire up the coal stove, and other children stayed after school to sweep up and clean the blackboards. The coal stove was also used at lunch to heat up soup or chocolate to go along with whatever else the children brought from home. A full-service cafeteria was many years away.

Would you or your group like to see it? Call me at (410) 749-1021, and I will be more than glad to show it to you.

(Rockawalkin School ca. 1898. The boy 5th from the left, front row is my grandfather, Albert L. Disharoon, as noted on the back.)

TSA Spent $900 Million On Behavior Detection Officers Who Detected 0 Terrorists

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spent approximately $900 million over the last 5 years for behavior detection officers to identify high-risk passengers but, so far, according to the General Accountability Office (GAO), only 0.59% of the passengers flagged were arrested and among those not one was charged with terrorism – zero.

In 2003, the TSA started testing its Screening of Passengers by Observation Technique (SPOT) program, which was then fully deployed in 2007. About 3,000 behavior detection officers (BDO) “had been deployed to 176 of the more than 450 TSA-regulated airports in the United States” by fiscal year 2012 (Oct. 1, 2011 – Sept. 30, 2012), according to the GAO.

Those BDO officers are trained to “identify passenger behaviors indicative of stress, fear, or deception and refer passengers” and their baggage for additional screening, reported the GAO in its Nov. 8, 2013 report, Aviation Security: TSA Should Limit Future Funding for Behavior Detection Activities.

Bill Elliott appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” earlier this month and said he was told that his cancer was considered “beyond a catastrophic pre-existing condition” and his plan was being canceled because of new regulations.

He said he was given the option of a new $1,500-per-month plan, up from the $180 per month or so that he’d been paying. Elliott told Fox’s Megyn Kelly that he had decided he wasn’t going to pay for the new expensive plan, and was instead going to take the financial penalty and “let nature take its course.”

Letter Re: Being Prepared To Homeschool

As a home-educated graduate and home school parent who happens to be a prepper, I have given a great deal of thought to homeschooling after a collapse as my children are not grown. There are those who are already home schoolers and those who have not and will not consider homeschooling unless there is a SHTF scenario. This article is written for the latter : those who would like to set aside educational materials for their children and their progeny in the care of a true SHTF scenario.

While it would certainly be possible to buy a few workbooks at Costco and consider it done, I recommend that you sit down and discuss your thoughts on education as a family. If you have a son or daughter who aspires to be a medical doctor or who is a history buff you will need to take your families ideals and natural gifts into consideration. Deciding whether you are interested in faith based or secular materials would then be the next place to start. Consider the many different methods of home education and choose a few to research whether or not they are well suited to your personality and educational philosophy. There are classical, Charlotte Mason, Unit Study, Self Directed and even Unschooling methods to name just a few. If you are interested in faith based materials look for publishers which line up with your religious beliefs such as Abeka.com and Setonhome.org would be a good start for Catholics while Chinuch.org carries materials of interest to Jewish families. Pearsonhomeschool.com is a popular secular publisher as is Homeschool.calvertschool.org. Relatively new to the home school communities are virtual academies and discs from SOS (Switched on Schoolhouse) from Alpha Omega Publishers. This is not by any means a complete list. Christianbook.com andRainbowresource.com sell materials from most of the aforementioned publishers and much more. CathyDuffyReviews.com and Homeschoolreviews.com are excellent in depth review sites.

Mexico: Teen Hit Man Freed, Sent To U.S.

Mexican authorities set free a former teen cartel hit man on Tuesday and sent him back to the United States.

The release of Edgar Jimenez Lugo, a U.S. citizen known as "El Ponchis" or "The Cloak," comes less than three years after a Mexican court found him guilty of torturing and beheading at least four people and kidnapping three others as an operative for the South Pacific Cartel.

The teenager's age -- 14 at the time -- and his on-camera description of the slayings, brought international attention to the case. Analysts said the dramatic example showed how Mexican drug gangs were increasingly recruiting youths.

White House Offers Food Stamps, Not Jobs, To The Nation's Poor

White House officials are trying to slam GOP efforts to cut food-stamp funding, even as President Barack Obama told wealthy donors that he won’t compromise on his ambitious, government-fattening progressive policies that have failed to reverse the nation’s unemployment and poverty.

The food stamp program “is one of our nation’s strongest defenses against poverty and hunger,” Cecilia Muñoz, head of the White House’s Domestic Policy Council declared Tuesday.

Food-stamp cuts “would be harsh and unacceptable at any time, but particularly so as we enter the Thanksgiving and holiday [Christmas] season,” Gene Sperling, director of the National Economic Council, told reporters during a midday phone conference.

Tongue Pierce Lets The Paralyzed Drive Wheelchairs

An experimental device is letting paralyzed people drive wheelchairs simply by flicking their tongue in the right direction.

Key to this wireless system: Users get their tongue pierced with a magnetic stud that resembles jewelry and acts like a joystick, in hopes of offering them more mobility and independence.

Researchers reported Wednesday that 11 people paralyzed from the neck down rapidly learned to use the tongue device to pilot their wheelchairs through an obstacle course full of twists and turns, and to operate a computer, too.

Park Service Pulls Objection To Fracking; Used Op-Ed instead Of Scientific Evidence

The National Park Service has officially withdrawn a controversial document objecting to fracking, scrubbing the record and acknowledging that it broke its own rules on sticking to strict science in its zeal to pressure a fellow federal agency.

The embarrassing admission, which came from Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis in a letter to Rep. Rob Bishop, said the comments never should have been submitted, went out without his review, and shouldn’t have cited a New York Times op-ed as scientific evidence.

Should You Worry Or Is US Military At The Ready?

Warnings from defense officials and some experts are mounting and becoming more dire: The nation's military is being hobbled by budget cuts.

"You'd better hope we never have a war again," the House Armed Services Committee chairman, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Calif., said of the decline in what the military calls its readiness.

So should Americans be worried?

HURT: Let Us All Give Thanks For George Mason And The Bill Of Rights

George Mason’s home, Gunston Hall, just down the river from Mount Vernon, is closed on Thanksgiving Day but reopens to visitors the day after. In this season when Americans reflect upon all that we are grateful for, these stately and hallowed grounds are a good place to start.

Commonly referred to as the “forgotten founder,” George Mason IV had a fair amount of contempt for politics. Especially politicians. It was a dirty, grubby affair that attracted mostly dirty, grubby people.

In other words, Mason was clairvoyant.

Ocean City Police Provides Home Security Check Program

OCEAN CITY — With many resort residents planning holiday travel or winter-shortening vacations, and thousands more using their beach property as second homes, the Ocean City Police Department has a residential security check program available to help ensure private property is protected, but it appears few are taking advantage of it.

With the arrival of the holiday season, numerous Ocean City residents will travel to see families over the next few weeks and countless more will take much-needed vacations to warmer climates after another busy season. For years, the OCPD has offered an invaluable program in which local residents can register their properties for random security checks by officers when they are not at home for extended periods of time.

Survey Finds Doctors Rebelling Against Obamacare, Famous Hospitals Declining To Join

ObamaCare applicants across the country are finding their premiums are tripling, their favorite doctors aren't available, the physicians they can see are often far away and many prestigious hospitals offering specialized care are off-limits to them, according to a Washington Examiner survey of health insurance agents and brokers across the country.

Agents associated with the National Association of Health Underwriters were contacted in 16 cites across the country.

The agents were all certified by state insurance regulators to sell health insurance policies within and without the ObamaCare exchanges.

Their responses provide an alarming picture of the profound changes ObamaCare is forcing on patients and health care providers.

There Already Is A Government Health Care System In America And It Is The Medical Version Of Hell

What would happen if the entire health care system in the United States was run by the federal government? Would such a system be better or worse than what we have today? To get an answer to these questions, all we have to do is take a look at what is already happening.

Image: Injured Veteran (Wikimedia Commons).

The truth is that there already is a government health care system in America and it is the medical version of hell. You are about to read about the horrifying state of health care being provided by the federal government at VA hospitals and on Indian reservations around the country. Injured military veterans and those that live on Indian reservations are some of the most vulnerable members of our society, and the government is doing an absolutely nightmarish job of taking care of them.

Theoretically, the government should be able to provide at least a basic level of care for these people, but as you will see this is simply not happening.

“This is year three of our efforts to support Women Supporting Women and breast cancer awareness, and this is our biggest year to date. We hope that is a trend that keeps moving forward,” Fire Chief Rick Hoppes said.

Fire Department employees returned to Council Chambers this year wearing pink Salisbury Fire Department T-shirts, which were sold as part of the fundraiser. As in past years, the fire department also hosted a corn hole tournament where every department of the city was represented and participated.

WHY ARE THE MEDICAL INSURANCE COMPANIES SILENT?

What exactly are they afraid of?

John Goodman, the leading medical care analyst in the country, asked this question a few weeks ago. His piece was entitled "None Dare Call It…". The missing words were economic fascism.

Economic fascism, the system developed by Italian dictator Mussolini and later adopted by Hitler, is a highly developed form of crony capitalism. It has its own code of silence, not unlike the oath of omerta associated with the Mafia.

Private interests and government officials make their deals behind closed doors and are then not supposed to talk about them. To break the oath of silence is considered a grave offense.

Black Friday Spending Spree (in Washington)

American shoppers aren’t the only ones getting ready to spend big this holiday season.

In Washington, members of the budget conference committee are considering several options that could increase spending by up to an additional $100 billion.

What’s standing in their way is sequestration: the automatic spending cut mechanism President Obama signed into law with the Budget Control Act (BCA). Sequestration enforces spending caps on the discretionary budget, which includes those domestic programs that brought you the infamous IRS Star Trek parody video and the $325,000 RoboSquirrel. The reductions disproportionately fall on defense, and lawmakers should do a better job of prioritizing this core constitutional function while staying within the agreed-upon spending levels.

GOVERNOR O'MALLEY PROCLAIMS AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE DAY IN MARYLAND

Holiday Designation Recognizes the Contributions of First Americans

ANNAPOLIS, MD
-- Governor Martin O’Malley proclaimed today, November 29, 2013, as American Indian Heritage Day in Maryland. During the 2008 session, the Maryland General Assembly approved House Bill 83 making the fourth Friday of November a legal holiday to acknowledge the proud history of American Indians in Maryland.

“In honor of the rich history and culture of the American Indian community in our state, today we officially observe American Indian Heritage Day,” said Governor O’Malley. “It is fitting that we recognize the enormous contributions the First Americans have made to Maryland's culture, heritage and shared prosperity, from the birth of our colony to the present day.”

The first official designation of the holiday in state history was proclaimed five years ago in November 2008. Sponsored by Delegate Talmadge Branch, House Bill 83 also received strong support and leadership from Senator Joan Carter-Conway and delegates Kumar P. Barve and James E. Proctor Jr.

American Indian Heritage Day in Maryland runs in conjunction with the national designation of the Friday after Thanksgiving as a day to pay tribute to Native Americans, established by the U. S. House of Representatives in November of 2007. The first American Indian Day recognized by a state was declared on the second Saturday in May 1916 by the Governor of New York.

American Indian Heritage Day in Maryland is recognized as a part of the state and national celebration of National American Indian Heritage Month. In November 1990, a joint resolution was approved by the President of the United States designating November for the month-long celebration. Proclamations are made each year by the President declaring the heritage month celebration.

The suburb is about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.

THE GUN CONFISCATION NOTICE AN NYC RESIDENT REPORTEDLY RECEIVED WILL LIKELY SEND CHILLS DOWN YOUR SPINE

New York City has reportedly started sending out confiscation notices ordering gun owners to “immediately surrender” rifles and/or shotguns capable of holding more than five rounds of ammunition. It is illegal to possess a rifle or shotgun with the capacity to hold more than five rounds in the city, according to NYC Administrative Code 10-306 (b).

An alleged notice sent to an NYC resident, dated Nov. 18, offers the gun owner the following options:
  1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

Maryland Gas Prices Well Above National Average

The average for a gallon of regular in Maryland today is 15 cents a gallon higher than the current national average.

And the $3.42 cost is the highest it's been in months after hitting a 2 year low just a couple of weeks ago when it bottomed out at around $3.20, according to maryland gas prices.com.

It's up 12 cents in just one week and about the same price now as it was one year ago for the Thanksgiving holiday period when demand also peaks.

Current low price in Maryland is $3.04 at a Costco in Glen Burnie and most expensive is at $4.49 at an Exxon in Bethesda.

A Canadian's Version Of David Letterman's Top 10

This is what other countries think of us, in this case Canada.

Do we look like idiots or what?

10) Only in America...could politicians talk about the greed of the

rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.

9) Only in America...could people claim that the government still

discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a

black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black

while only 12% of the population is black.

8) Only in America...could they have had the two people most

responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and

Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn

out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

7) Only in America...can they have terrorists kill people in the name of

Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be

harmed by the backlash.

6) Only in America...would they make people who want to legally become

American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of

thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting

anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American

citizens.

5) Only in America...could the people who believe in balancing the

budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

4) Only in America...could you need to present a driver's license to

cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

3) Only in America...could people demand the government investigate

whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when

the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company ( Marathon Oil) is

less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

2) Only in America...could the government collect more tax dollars from

the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars

more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE,

and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

1) Only in America...could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income

taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

O'Malley: MD Working To Improve Health Exchange

Gov. Martin O'Malley says the state continues to work to improve its health-insurance exchange website.

O'Malley briefed reporters Wednesday on efforts to make the exchange more accessible and on the progress in enrolling uninsured Marylanders. Also on Wednesday, the state released new figures on the number of state residents who have signed up for insurance.

Through Saturday, 3,024 Marylanders have enrolled in private health plans through the state's health exchange, called Maryland Health Connection. State officials said more people signed up in the last week than in any previous week. Another 11,493 Marylanders have been found eligible to sign up for Medicaid coverage through the exchange.

Ministers Rein In College Subsidy

Twenty three private higher education colleges have been told to cut the number of students they recruit, amid fears of a government overspend.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) said certain providers of higher national diplomas (HNDs) and certificates (HNCs) in England were expanding "at unaffordable levels".

The news follows newspaper allegations that BIS has an £80m budget shortfall.

The department has to offer financial maintenance support to these students.

A Pardon For Caramel And Popcorn

Think of all the great Thanksgiving traditions.

For this blogger it’s all about the traditional turkey dinner with your family, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the neighborhood Turkey Bowl, the National Dog Show, that free pumpkin pie you bring home from the holiday racing card at Laurel Park and now for the second time in the last 3 years, a Ravens Thanksgiving night game at M&T Bank Stadium.
But one tradition that has always captured my imagination is the time-honored tradition of the Presidential pardon of the National Thanksgiving Turkey.

And once again the President and this year’s edition of the National Thanksgiving Turkey (and its alternate) did not disappoint in a spirited Rose Garden Thanksgiving-eve afternoon ceremony.

Maryland’s Greater Baltimore Residents Are Asked To ‘Imagine’

Imagine what the world, and more specifically your local community, might be like 50 years from now, in 2060 to be exact. How will our lives have changed? How will transport have changed? Urban planning? City amenities? These are some of the questions residents of Greater Baltimore are being asked to think about.

The Imagine 2060 project is an interesting intellectual exercise designed to engage the community in a workshop aimed at developing ideas for future developments in the areas of land use and transport. The project is interesting because ideas are not constrained by a budget and the imagination can therefore take flight.

Annapolis Brothel Operator Gets 35 Years On Sex Trafficking, Weapons Charges

An Annapolis brothel operator was sentenced to 35 years in prison this week.

U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles Jr. also sentenced German de Jesus Ventura, 35, who was living in the U.S. illegally, to five years of supervised probation on nearly a half-dozen prostitution, human trafficking and weapons charges.

Since 2008, agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations division had been investigating Ventura’s brothel organization, which operated in Annapolis, Easton, Washington, D.C., Virginia and New York. Five people were arrested for federal violations and 14 were arrested for state violations.

“This sentencing sends a message that HSI and other law enforcement members of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force are committed to working together to investigate human trafficking and combating the violence that sex trafficking organizations are bringing to our communities,” said William Winter, special agent in charge of HSI Baltimore.

Obama, Oprah, Media To Blame For Black Mobs

Did you ever imagine that, in America, groups of black thugs would attack unsuspecting whites? Did you ever think the first black president and Oprah Winfrey would encourage division and hatred between races?

In today’s America, that’s the unfortunate reality.

In what many tamely call the “knockout game,” black teenagers target whites to attack them without provocation. The aim is to knock the victim unconscious with one blow. Man, woman, young or old – it doesn’t matter – these thugs do not care.

Authorities have reported violent attacks in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Connecticut and Illinois. There have been at least four recent fatalities.

Obama Administration’s Closing Of Vatican Embassy ‘Slap In The Face’ To Catholics

The Obama administration plans to shut down the U.S. Embassy to the Vatican and relocate offices onto the grounds of the much larger American Embassy in Italy.

In the wake of the attack in Benghazi, Libya, the move is justified primarily on the grounds of enhanced security, John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter wrote. Cost savings is said to be a factor as well, with the State Department estimating $1.4 million a year will be saved by relocating.

The Vatican traditionally has insisted that countries maintain embassies in distinct locations as a way of underscoring its autonomy, NCR reported.

It’s a “massive downgrade of U.S.-Vatican ties,” former U.S. Ambassador James Nicholson told NCR. “It’s turning this embassy into a stepchild of the embassy to Italy. The Holy See is a pivot point for international affairs and a major listening post for the United States, and … [it’s] an insult to American Catholics and to the Vatican.”

Banks Want To Charge Us For Saving Money

Most banks already charge customers for the so-called privilege of having a checking account, but now they want to add a few extra fees. According to the Financial Times, the Federal Reserve is considering dialing back the process of quantitative easing. In other words, they want to scale back the $85 billion dollar per month bond buying program, which floods the banking industry with capital at little to no cost. But, the banks won't give up all that free money easily, and they're looking to customers to make up for those lost profits. Historically, banks actually paid customers for saving money, as a return for leaving money in the bank, where it could be used to lend and invest. But today, the banksters act like they're doing us a favor by holding our money, and using it to profit off loans and investments. The only reason this is even being considered is because the too-big-to-fail financial giants can get away with pretty much anything without fear of repercussion. It's time to break up the banks, and put power back in the hands of banking customers.
