Warnings from defense officials and some experts are mounting and becoming more dire: The nation's military is being hobbled by budget cuts.
"You'd better hope we never have a war again," the House Armed Services Committee chairman, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Calif., said of the decline in what the military calls its readiness.
So should Americans be worried?

Hate to say it...but the majority of the military never will be in a country with an active war. They are paid to travel around the world doing training for 4 years, are discharged, and get 4 years of college paid for. There are a few (less than 10 percent) that do truly "serve". For the most part, the other 90 percent, are paid and trained for something that they will never see. Look at how many parents were up in arms when Desert Storm happened because they never expected their kids to really have to go to war...they just figured that it was a good way for their kids to get a free education and learn a skill.
ReplyDeleteI'm a VFW and proud former Marine. As a taxpayer i believe our military spending needs to decrease. The fatcats in dc always use this scare tactic to continue increasing spending. When President Eisenhower left office he warned us to beware of the military industrial complex. We cannot keep spending more and more on defense and healthcare...it will financially break us.
ReplyDeleteThis article speaks as if we're somehow presently not engaged in any war action at all. Why don't I believe the rest of the words written here?
ReplyDeleteWhoa... commiefornia has a R-Rep?
ReplyDeleteMilitary spending CAN be cut. Significantly. But THAT would mean a whole lot of American arms producers and DEALERS would have to live on $500 million or, God forbid, less. Selling a missile with off the shelf GPS and $1000 worth of high explosives -- for a million dollars -- is TOO lucrative. And bribing Congressmen to continue the impassioned speeches about our "weakness" is too easy. But VERY cost effective. Keep cheering.
