On the other hand, Wilbur is a LAWYER, sorry for such a far reach.
Here's the deal. There's some serious problems in Pittsville right now and quite frankly the taxpayers are getting screwed. You have a majority of firefighters on the Council and that just needs to end. There's nothing wrong with one representative but we all know what might happen if you had, oh, let's say your DAUGHTER running the books and Daddy closing BOTH eyes and signing off on a two party check time and time again.
However, Pittsville is one of those Towns very similar to Salisbury where the citizens want to bitch and complain but they don't get off their rear ends to volunteer to run and or vote.
Then we heard from a citizen who called Town Hall to ask where the election is being published. Their reply was, we'll be posting it around Town, (image above) and in the Daily Times. That citizen was furious because with the 15 homes on their block, only TWO get the Daily Times. HOW CONVENIENT AGAIN! They, (of course) didn't send anything to Salisbury News because they know everyone reads us.
They don't want you to know about this election. They don't want new candidates stepping up to the plate to compete. In fact, we at Salisbury News can't wait for this election to be over so we can publish the fact that we have another Washington, D.C. right here on the Eastern Shore where the citizens are so dumb they voted another Marion Barry back into office.
I can see the hits going through the roof now. Well here's what I can tell you. Salisbury News is by far the most read new source on the entire Eastern Shore, hands down. I couldn't care less how many homes get the Daily Times, they're a joke any more and people should be laughing at their neighbors every morning when they go out to pick up that piece of junk someone just paid all that money to read in 5 minutes.
Pittsville, you are the center of attention right now. MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES and get that Town back in order before it goes bankrupt.
Why not publish the scandals BEFORE the election, so the folks over there can make better, informed decisions?
ReplyDeleteI have been a Daily Times subscriber for many many years. Unfortunately they have digressed to the point of becoming a liberal rag publication. I am particularly nauseated by their current staff writers. Time to cancel I suppose.
ReplyDeleteResidents of Pittsville will not find proper information about the election in Pittsville in Boscov times. The one sided reporting of the Salisbury city election did me in and led to my canceling the subscription I held for 19 yrs. Salisbury news is all I need for facts and true reporting.
ReplyDeleteMore important why aren't these people getting out and running their city?
ReplyDeleteJoe ....what's wrong with fire fighters beimg on the council? You never said why.am curious as to why? You complain that nobody wants to step up and volunteer. Yeah the volunteers you already spent enough time volunteering spend even more time volunteering for the town Council. You think that people would be grateful that they're doing more than just volunteering at the fire company that they do volunteer their time to the community . I'm not siding with anybody I'm just trying to understand why it's a problem for a bunch of volunteer firefighters into town to be on the council when they live in town and have every right to be on the council
ReplyDeleteJoe you should run for mayor of Pittsville.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 11:25, having one firefighter on the Council is one thing. However, having two, (or more) is too much. The idea of having different council members representing, (that's the KEY word) the citizens is the healthiest way to run business. Again, having a father/daughter in the main office is absolutely ridiculous as well.
ReplyDeleteNow, could it be this is the case because no one is willing to step up to the plate? Could be. However, they'll send a mailer out asking for your income and a lot of other personal information. Why not take that opportunity to throw in a post card in that same mailer mentioning the upcoming election????
Its situations like this that created Salisbury News in the first place. Our job is to expose such situations and allow you the opportunity to express your thoughts and opinions.
anonymous 11:40, I do not live in Pittsville and would not ever have the interest to run for office. I think we've all seen what can happen in an Eastern Shore election. If they want you, your in. If they don't, well, you know the drill.
I hope someone steps up to run this town. It's been going down for years. Why is it that other towns down seem to have all the problems with their town and the water. Does Willards or Fruitland have these problems? Do they have to deal with either brown water or water that is so chlorinated that you can't even drink it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard that Denver's daughter was also working at the town I knew there would be problems. Sadly I was correct. I have to wonder who and how they found out about all this mess. How can we expect to vote for anyone if we don't know if they had any knowledge of this and for how long they knew. If we elect them and then find out they had a hand in it then we have to pay for another election. We need answers NOW.
need to elect at least someone to replace Denver, even if he is not found to have stolen anything, he is responsible for hiring his daughter, he is overall responsible as any check he signed he should EXACTLY what is was for or questioned it, he should not be selling his old used vehicles to the town, he is responsible for the town owning the Lions Club as he was the tres for the lions club and the grave yard. everyone is broke--town lions club and graveyard
ReplyDeletebut as stated no one wants to step up and take these jobs as they are thankless, use up your free time and subject you to ridicule and accusations that may not be true
Sounds like the instead of Town of Pittsvilee, should be named Town of Denver.
ReplyDeleteJoe
ReplyDeleteThere is really no reason for even a post card. We get quarterly water bills from the town. There is plenty of space to include important information from the town. They could include a small slip of paper in each bill if they can't get it printed on the actual bill.
Lots of idiot talk, lots of conjecture. Wish I could make those changes, wish I could even run. With a disabled spouse I cannot leave, I cannot.
ReplyDeleteChanges DO need to be made. Not every resident is an idiot, however I'll admit we're likely not paying the attention we need to our tiny town government.
I HATE the fact we pay such high taxes for nearly NOTHING in return. Often the water is orange or brown or BLEACHY which has ruined more clothing and bedding than I can shake a stick at. Where's that reimbursement?
Paying about $150.00 a quarter for water and trash pickup, in Salisbury they'd FAINT, really, that much and for what we get?
It's definitely time for a change in the guard--all of them. I care for my tiny town. This was the only place when we got married some 30 years ago we could afford to buy a little house. It was quiet, the neighbors are genuinely NICE.
People think Pittsville is redneck central, it's not. It's a quiet community and people are neighborly.
We've mostly just paid the bills and been bamboozled for far too long.
(Speaking to my neighbors..Who can, who is, willing to step up to the plate?)
My closest friend and neighbor is 80-something and ill. If I had 5 hours a week I would offer, I don't have that, I'm lucky to make it to the grocery store and pharmacy and back to keep watch on my own ill husband. But Pittsville doesn't need me, it needs someone younger with vigor, one with a conscience, values, and drive.
I am hoping that someone is willing to do what I would if I could.
If you think you can't, think again. Unless you are shackled like I am, consider it.
Please, someone with a degree in Accounting and English..PLEASE run. You'll get my vote!
Was not long after moving to Pittsville that we started receiving letters almost every summer about water shortage. So with the high water bill ....you could not wash your car water grass etc. But yet the car wash in the center of town stayed open. ??? After researching I found out that most if not all of that money is ....DONATED? To Pittsville fire house.Several locals made calls and the next day they put police tape around the car wash. Well we still get those water shortage letters. But you can wash your car at certain times and water your shrubs....and of course the car wash has stayed open during those times. People have to pull together start asking questions and demand answers.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the job pay? I'd be interested.
ReplyDeleteThe car wash is owned & operated by the Pittsville volunteer fire department as a small form of income to offset the ever rising costs of operating a fire department. Unlike Salisbury, Pittsville and the remainder of county fire departments have to work fundraisers to provide fire & EMS services. Joe I’m not sure of your issue with firemen on the town counsel but you need to understand the town basically does nothing for the fire department just like other towns in Wicomico County. In other words I don’t know of any benefit the fire department receives by having firemen on the council. As for any wrong doing by Denver’s daughter I certainly hope justice is served if something unlawful has happened.
ReplyDeleteI have talked to as many people as I can about the situation at the town. Many still do not know what has happened. I urge everyone to get the word out that they are keeping things from the tax payers. We have to hold them accountable for our money.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's right for any of you to be talking about any of it it hasn't been settle yet so there for no one has any right to say anything against the town of Pittsville.
ReplyDeleteI think she should get another job NOTHING to do with working with money or books or anything in that matter and be made to work to pay it back.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 11:02, yeah, right. In other words, let's put a lid on it until after the election, I don't think so. No one said anyone is guilty, yet. Just that something clearly happened and the public has every right to know about it. Covering it up is about as close to criminal as it gets. Denver is a public official, period. I have personally never had a single problem with Denver. While I have heard different from several other people, he has never asked for anything from me that I shouldn't be responsible for. Nevertheless, this is a public issue and in time everything will come out in the end. Denver, (much like Lee Outten, Fruitland) has every right to come on here and defend his position and we certainly welcome that.
ReplyDeleteBased on what is out there each person commenting on this Site has every right to express their position on the matter.
Not sure if my previous post went thru, so will try again. I know of at least one person who will be running. She has an accounting degree and has lived in Pittsville most of her life. Paperwork will be turned in monday. She would be a wise choice. I will provide more info later.
ReplyDeleteGood good for her! No one cares the town is screwed up enough
ReplyDeleteJoe, you are right. If an elected official would respond once in a while and explain things, I think people would listen. I was glad to read the responses from Mr. Outten because it gave me hope that some of our elected may actually care about their communities. Maybe he would consider moving over to Pittsville. I would vote for him.
ReplyDeleteNo body has been charged for anything yet! This is All hear say.
ReplyDeleteThe Pittsville Fire Company and EMS receive about 17K per year from the Town. Conflict of interest perhaps as the council votes on how much it gives to the PFD. That is why too many PFD members on the council is not a good thing. Denver did not sell his vehicles to the Town, he just doesn't pay for his water, sewer or health insurance. Unfortunately it is going to take more than one new person on the council to change anything.
ReplyDeleteSeventeen thousand dollars a year is nothing when it comes to operating a fire department. that can barely by 5 turn out gears for firefighters. it cost roughly 4000 dollars the outfit 1 firefighter with PPE. if you all want to complain about a fire department complain about Belmar they receive money from the state of Delaware state of Maryland and federal grants. that fire company should receive nothing from Maryland I don't care to do cover the Maryland area they are located in Delaware technically they are Delaware fire company
DeleteWhy don't some of you quit complaining and step up. Don't complain about the people that do if you won't.
ReplyDeleteBelmar?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:18...would you want Delmar Fire Department to quit serving Maryland? I wouldn't. Who would be able to handle the Maryland calls? Maybe since the police department is located in Maryland they should stop answering calls in Delaware. That would be a bad choice too. Why would you drag Delmar into this? Pittsville has been turned into a political crap fest by the people elected and the girl who embezzled all that money. Denver Moore should step down to save the town the embarrassment of it's commission president being convicted of a crime. Get out and vote people.......take back your town before it's too late.
ReplyDeleteIt is to late you no good know it all!!! Let Pittsville burn! I can't stand this little town anymore that's why we're selling everything and walking out! This is all a he said she said! And screw everyone in this little town too!
ReplyDeleteI wish rack and everyone of you people would stop running your mouth and step up. You don't like how things are being done then do something about it! This town has gone to hell. But that's with every town! Only her and those involve know what's going on, so how about you let things be until it comes out. This is slander on their part honestly. But not going to say I told you so. Yes mine and your posts are anonymous but is it really???
ReplyDeleteTown of pittsville needs new people running it .... End of story
ReplyDeleteFire department owns the car wash? Who maintains the records for that entity? Do they pay for water? Who pays for maintenance and repairs? Lot's of questions here.
ReplyDeleteIt would be real easy to skim money from that car wash. Who knows how much money it actually takes in? Be too easy to skim.
ReplyDeleteI live here in Pittsville and this is really sad. Lots and lots of questions unanswered. Are these elections two years or four years?
ReplyDeleteI agree Joe you need to run for mayor of Pittsville!
