A Comment Worthy Of A Post 8-13-12

12:25, You bring up an excellent point, and I'd like to address it, if I may.

We need affordable housing for people that don't qualify for section 8. There is no affordable housing outside the ghetto for people not on welfare.

Thank you for being so blunt about this, and I wish to be equally blunt in my response to your statement.

Your income taxes (or a portion of) that are withheld out of your paycheck each week pay to make up the difference between what the landlord needs from each apartment, say $1,000 a month, from what each rent payer pays, say $250 a month. So, by you working, a lot of your taxes taken from you at the end of the week pay to cover the other $750 that the section 8 renter is not paying. Does your money cover the whole $750? Oh, of course not! There are people whose "job" it is now all day long to "process" these taxes and payments. Let's just call them "skimmers". They have to skim about $200 off the top to pay their bills. After all, this keeps them busy all day every day and keeps them from working a productive job, so they've got to make ends meet, too.

So it will not only take a lot of your co-workers' income taxes to pay 3/4 of the section 8 peoples' rent and the skimmers, but many other workers across town as well. In fact, it will take about ten to twelve job holders to support each section 8 renter,

This reduces your income to a point that brings you to your question of the day. "I make so little I need section 8 housing, but I don't want to live in a ghetto!" PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT, AND LET IT SINK IN.

Now you want a NICE apartment away from that, that is better that theirs, that you will not own and neither will any of your neighbors, for less than market value, (the landlord still needs his thousand, and will go to the government to get it if you cannot pay, so fill out this form along with your lease)that you did not work hard for because most of its value is given to you, and it's all because some ba$tards across town take money out of your check every week that they don't deserve. NOT ONLY THAT, now all your neighbors are doing the same thing to your paycheck because they are in section 8, too! DAMN!

NOW, your workload is tripled, your pay is cut in half, ALL BECAUSE OF THOSE ROTTEN BA$TARDS ACROSS TOWN, and worse yet, your own neighbors!

What are you going to do next. Hmmmmm. I know, F__K the rest of them, You'll just quit working, make a bunch of babies, and get $ for each one every week like everybody else is doing!
Congratulations, You have just done your part to become a slave to the Government, who will tell you what little pittance you deserve, because there are so few working, there is not enough to so around and you have to give your share to the "children".

So, how's life treating you now? No car, no freedom, if you had a bike it would get stolen by a neighbor or the 'hood across town where you didn't want to live in the first place. Everybody quit working, so the factory moved to another state or country, so there are no jobs even if you wanted to reverse the path you wished so badly for. There is nothing to strive for anymore. Your only hope of breaking free is to go into an illicit retail market, but the cops patrol your hood 24-7, and you'll just get caught someday, over and over again.

Future America. Keep on wishing for that "affordable housing away from a ghetto". You may just "get it" some day.

House Republicans Sue Holder Over Fast And Furious

House Republicans filed a federal lawsuit on Monday against Attorney General Eric Holder, the country's top law enforcement official, seeking to obtain documents on a botched operation to link Arizona gun sales to Mexican drug cartels.

The suit likely means the debate over the anti-gun-trafficking operation nicknamed "Fast and Furious" will go on for months, lasting through the U.S. elections on Nov. 6 when Democratic President Barack Obama is likely to face Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Republicans' focus on Fast and Furious has helped to energize gun owners, who are a large and important voting bloc in presidential swing states such as Pennsylvania and tend to vote Republican.

Can VP Selection Really Be A True Game-Changer?

Four years ago, before a little-known governor from Alaska stepped onto the American political stage, Lisa Rigler was a steadfast John McCain supporter. She was a Republican and an Arizonan, so it was a given that she would back the state's senior senator in his bid to become president.

Then McCain introduced his running mate, promising that his pick would help him "shake up" Washington. Sarah Palin would, instead, shake up his campaign and the political landscape of the nation.

But was her selection the "game-changer" so many Americans believed it to be? Does that No. 2 spot on a presidential ticket make any real difference to voters in the long run?

Ahmadinejad Criticized For Leaving Iran Soon After Quake, As Death Toll Hits 306

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is under fire for leaving Iran as the nation reeled from twin earthquakes that killed 306 and injured thousands just two days earlier, Reuters reports  .
Ahmadinejad is visiting Saudi Arabia for a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is expected to deal with the crisis in Syria.
The decision to leave Iran less than two days after the quakes is criticized in an editorial in the newspaper Asr-e Iran, titled "Mr. Ahmadinejad, where have you gone?"

YOUR FAMILY AND MEDIA'S SEXUAL TERRORISM

The recent shooting massacres in Colorado and Wisconsin have again focused attention on the hundreds of thousands of studies on the links between violence in the media to acts of violence in society. The results have overwhelmingly showed that violence in media does influence people’s attitudes and behavior, even more so if it’s children and adolescents exposed to heavy violence in media.
Even so, this posits another question: Can the same thing be said for sexuality in movies?
Sexuality outside of marriage is not only uncommon in America, but is celebrated and encouraged among society’s youth. This has caused increases in pornography, sexually transmitted diseases, abortion and high divorce rates that are actively hurting families. Is this a result of media indoctrination? Does the sexuality in movies really have that much to do with the increase in sexual behavior in adolescents?

GM Recalls Over 38,000 Police Impalas in North America

General Motors is recalling at least 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police vehicles in North America because the lower front control arms could break, creating a possible crash risk.
A Reuters report says the recall covers 36,413 police cars in the U.S. and 1,713 more in Canada, according to GM as well as documents filed with the National Traffic Safety Administration. It includes cars from model years 2008 to 2012. Non-police versions of this Impala are not affected.
So far, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue, according to GM.

Obamacare Mandate: Sterilize 15-Year-Old Girls for Free--Without Parental Consent

Thanks to an Obamacare regulation that took effect on Aug. 1, health care plans in Oregon will now be required to provide free sterilizations to 15- year-old girls even if the parents of those girls do not consent to the procedure.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius finalized the regulation earlier this year.
It says that all health care plans in the United States--except those provided by actual houses of worship organized under the section of the Internal Revenue Code reserved for churches per se--must provide coverage, without cost-sharing, for sterilizations and all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptives to “all women with reproductive capacity.”

ATHEISTS THREATEN WATER PARK OVER ‘ILLEGAL’ & ‘DISCRIMINATORY’ CHURCH GROUP DISCOUNT

Over the years, atheists activists have targeted nativities, crosses on public property, prayer and other related symbols and expressions of faith. Now, secularist activists are setting their sights on the discounts that private businesses offer to religious people. TheBlaze already told you about a restaurant in Columbia, Pennsylvania, that is facing atheistic wrath over a church bulletin discount. Now, an amusement park in Little Rock, Arkansas, is facing similar threats — and has already buckled under the pressure.

At issue is a discount that the Willow Springs Water Park   has been offering to church groups. Following a non-religious organization’s complaint over being declined the same rate that religious groups enjoy, park owner David Ratliff, purportedly feeling pressure, discontinued the faith-based discount. This decision to bend to the demands of a secular organization wasn’t enough, though. Atheists fear that Willow Springs will, once again, begin offering faith-based discounts next season.

YES, THEY CAN DO THAT IN PUBLIC SCHOOL

Every public school in America is about to receive a wake-up call that will eliminate any excuse for stomping on students’ and teachers’ religious liberty.
Ever since the Supreme Court ruled in 1969 that neither students nor teachers “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate,” activists of various stripes – most recently from atheist and homosexual groups – have tried to find ways around the ruling, to squash free speech, and religious speech in particular, in America’s public schools.

Welcome To America – The Corporate Police State

New York City is poised to become the surveillance capital of America. On Wednesday, city officials unveiled a massive new surveillance system that they say will “revolutionize law enforcement.” Its called The Domain Awareness System and it gathers information from thousands of video cameras mounted around the city - using maps, city records, arrest records, license plate readers, and 9-1-1 calls – bringing everything together in a centralized source to be reviewed by Police. The city is already monitoring live feeds from more than 3-thousand cameras – mostly in the financial district – but more cameras are expected to be added soon. This technology was developed for the city by Microsoft - and will be packaged and sold to other cities around our nation - with New York getting a cut of the profits. So, not only has domestic surveillance become a tool for the wealthy elite to suppress an American population that is growing more and more restless – but it’s also a tool to make a lot of money.

Saving The Post Office: Letter Carriers Consider Bringing Back Banking Services

On July 27, 2012, the National Association of Letter Carriers adopted a resolution at their national convention in Minneapolis to investigate the establishment of a postal banking system. The resolution noted that expanding postal services and developing new sources of revenue are important components of any effort to save the public post office and preserve living-wage jobs; that many countries have a long and successful history of postal banking, including Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the United States itself; and that postal banks could serve the nine million people who don't have a bank account and the 21 million who use usurious check cashers, giving low-income people access to a safe banking system. "A USPS [United States Postal Service] bank would offer a 'public option' for banking," concluded the resolution, "providing basic checking and savings - and no complex financial wheeling and dealing."

What is bankrupting the USPS is not that it is inefficient. It has been self-funded throughout its history. But in 2006, Congress required it to prefund postal retiree health benefits for 75 years into the future, an onerous burden no other public or private company is required to carry. The USPS has evidently been targeted by a plutocratic Congress bent on destroying the most powerful unions and privatizing all public services, including education. Britain's 150-year-old postal service is on the privatization chopping block for the same reason, and its postal workers have also vowed to fight. Adding banking services is an internationally tested and proven way to maintain post office solvency and profitability.

FEDS SEIZE FAMILY'S GUNS, MONEY

After almost a year in jail and a three-week trial, a jury has declared the members of the Reese family not guilty on 24 of the 28 counts against them. The jury did convict three of the four family members of making false statements in connection with the acquisition of firearms. Remington Reese, the 20-year old younger son, was acquitted of all charges, while his older brother, Ryin was found guilty on two counts and his father and mother, Rick and Terri, were found guilty on one count each. The charges carry a potential sentence of five years and $50,000 for each count, but those convicted typically receive sentences of about one year.

Those sentences are what judges give to the criminals who knowingly and intentionally lie on federal forms though, not firearms dealers who “should have known” that customers were lying to them. It’s quite possible that, as federally licensed firearms dealers, the Reeses will be held to a higher standard and receive tougher sentences. Sentencing is scheduled for early October. Rick and Ryin will continue to be held without bail, but Terri will remain out on bail until sentence is passed. Remington was released from custody at the conclusion of the trial.

Is The Era Of Oil Nearing Its End?

Washington - After nearly a decade of warnings that the world’s oil supply was running out, Americans now are hearing about technology breakthroughs that can unlock vast U.S. deposits of natural gas, help reverse a 40-year slide in domestic oil production and perhaps transform America into the next Middle East.

But despite the euphoria, there’s a major problem: The looming American oil glut may simply not be enough to sate the United States and the rest of motorized humanity.

Experts say soaring demand from China and India is sure to send oil prices back above $100 a barrel. A supply disruption in the coming years, they say, could trigger panic, gasoline hoarding and perhaps lead to lines at the pumps akin to the 1973 Arab oil embargo and the 1979 Iranian revolution.

Words for Teenagers

"Northland College Principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth:

'Always we hear the cry from teenagers "What can we do, where can we go?"

'My answer is this: Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you've finished, read a book. Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun.

'The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in sickness and lonely again. In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important, you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you!' "

The Boy Scouts Of America Has It Backwards

By upholding their ban on gay members and leaders, are they mistakenly confusing homosexuality with pedophilia?

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) recently announced that, after a two-year review, they were sticking to their long-standing policy of excluding openly gay youth and adults as members and leaders. (This is in stark contrast to the Girl Scouts, who have no exclusionary membership policies around sexual preference.)

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times broke an extremely troubling story about the BSA’s failure to prevent some known and suspected sexual predators from being scout leaders or volunteers, despite an awareness of their abusive behavior.

Examining recently released files from 1970 to 1991, the Times found “more than 125 cases across the country in which men allegedly continued to molest Scouts after the organization was first presented with detailed allegations of abusive behavior.” Some of these repeat offenses were attributed to “clerical errors, computer glitches or the Scouts’ failure to check their own “perversion files,” a confidential blacklist designed to identify potential predators. But the BSA also chronically failed to report complaints of abuse to law enforcement or child protective services.

When it comes to foreclosures and people losing their homes, it's a tale of two states.

The Washington Examiner reports   Maryland leads the nation in foreclosures. It cites a survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association which finds Maryland's rate for foreclosures is nearly double the national average.

But the opposite trend is happening in Virginia. According to RealtyTrac, a company which tracks U.S. foreclosures, Virginia saw foreclosures plummet 65 percent in July compared to a year ago. Washington, D.C. also saw foreclosures decrease year-over-year.

You Can't Handle The TRUTH Mayor Ireton

As if we don't have enough Section 8, Affordable Subsidized Housing Units in Salisbury, eh?

Well, here's a list for you. We have PLENTY of units all over the City, yet Ireton wants to slam taxpayers with the Bricks and ALL Downtown Parking Lots and add more than 500 more units Downtown.

You have to ask yourself, why aren't you seeing any of this on WBOC, WMDT or the Daily Times?????? Why is the Chamber of Commerce telling people that the subsidized housing units in Downtown are for Police Officers, Firefighters and Teachers, when that is a complete lie?????

Some people will say ANYTHING to get certain projects through, then it all changes from there. I, Joe Albero, will NEVER pull this kind of crap on the Public. You'll simply get the TRUTH for the first time in many years.

You take a good hard look at the information about and STOP letting the Daily Times spew special agenda information down your throats. Do tell me, how many of YOU live in housing units that only cost $300.00 a month, or so? Yeah, must be nice, eh!

I have spoken to some developers that say they love holding these kind of units because they can always count on a check every month. It may not be a lot of money but it sure does tell you what they CAN afford to get per month, instead of what they DO charge to others.

That being said, we do NOT need more.

UPDATE: According to these documents alone there are 1,296 units in Salisbury. Some units are $90.00 to $250.00 a month.

PUBLIC HEALTH EXPERTS REPORTEDLY TARGETING GUN VIOLENCE AS ‘SOCIAL DISEASE’

Is a gun like a virus, tobacco or alcohol?  According to “public health experts,“ who in the wake of recent mass shootings are calling for a fresh look at gun violence as a ”social disease,” it is.
What we need, they say, is a “public health approach” to the problem.
Dr. Garen Wintemute of University of California, Davis claims it is no longer enough to tackle gun violence by focusing solely on the people doing the shooting.  Dr. Stephen Hargarten, who treated victims of the Sikh temple shootings at the emergency department he heads in Milwaukee, feels the same way.
“What I’m struggling with is, is this the new social norm?” he asked, before asserting: “This is what we’re going to have to live with if we have more personal access to firearms.”

A high-ranking member of the Sinaloa drug cartel operative currently in U.S. custody alleges that Operation Fast and Furious was part of an agreement to finance and arm the Sinaloa cartel in exchange for information used to take down rival cartels, according to court documents.

The statement was made by Jesus Vicente Zambada-Niebla, the Sinaloa cartel’s “logistics coordinator” in charge of arranging massive drug shipments from Latin America to the United States as well as the son of cartel leader Ismael “Mayo” Zambada-Garcia and a close associate to kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Zambada-Niebla was arrested by Mexican authorities in March 2009 and extradited to Chicago to face drug trafficking charges.

Romney's Choice

From: Joe Biden
To: Joe Albero
Date: Sun, Aug 12, 2012 8:33 pm

Joe --

Starting now, we can expect even more wealthy, right-wing ideologues lining up to support the Romney-Ryan ticket.

The people on the other side who are trying to buy this election are putting nasty, deceptive TV ads on the air right this very minute. They're not going away. They're getting worse.

If we don't do what we can to keep this close, right now at this crucial moment, we risk letting the other side run away with it.

If you're thinking about making a donation to the campaign, please don't wait -- donate $3 or more today, and let's win this together.

Every single day from now until Election Day matters. At the end of it, we'll all ask ourselves if we did everything we could to make sure that we are able to keep fighting for change.

I know how I want to answer that question. I hope you're with me -- because we're up against the kind of outside spending never seen before in modern politics.

And without people like you, this could get to be a pretty lopsided fight.

November 6th will be here sooner than we think. Donate $3 or more today:

Thanks,

Joe

Dear Joe,

All you've left us with is change, (as in pennies). Our homes aren't worth a damn. You've taxed us to death. Heck, at least for $3.00 we can almost get a gallon of gas. It's time for change alright and you and Barack aren't a part of the plan.

Oh, by the way. Can you please tell Michelle to please stop contacting me. Not that my Wife is bothered, it just looks bad.

The English Civil War As Current Events

Below is an excellent three part BBC series on the English Civil War. I ask that you watch it on two levels:

First, to learn about these extremely important events that are not taught in public schools which dramatically impacted Anglo-American history, particularly regarding the background of the American Revolution, constitutional separation of powers, and the Bill of Rights.

Secondly, watch it as current events unfolding in contemporary America, on the dangers of fanaticism from earnestly-minded bigots from across the religious and political spectrum that fall prey to their ignorance and zealotry. If civil conflict and open warfare in the streets comes to American communities I am afraid that such armed militant groups appealing to the basest of motives of the lowest common denominator will prove dominant.

This series has superb production values with exceptional re-enacted dramatic portrayals of events, like watching a first class feature film.

Rosenberg also mentions that at least one of the Afghan officers had been working with the Special Forces troops for four years, and that shootings like this may arise from personal disputes, not Taliban infiltration.

Obama's Accounting System

Sadly, if you believe Obama's administration unemployment figures this is Very true! Are you old enough to remember Abbott and Costello?
Abbott and Costello explain Obama's Accounting System.
COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It's 9%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that's 16%.
COSTELLO: You just said 9%.
ABBOTT: 9% Unemployed.
COSTELLO: Right 9% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that's 16%.
COSTELLO: Okay, so it's 16% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that's 9% .
COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 9% or 16%?
ABBOTT: 9% are unemployed. 16% are out of work.
COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed. You
Have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!
ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn't look for work, can't be counted with those
Who look for work. It wouldn't be fair.
COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are
Out of work stopped looking. They gave up. And, if you give up, you are
No longer in the ranks of the unemployed.
COSTELLO: So if you're off the unemployment roles, that would count as
Less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!
COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for
Work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That's how you get to 9%. Otherwise it
Would be 16%. You don't want to read about 16% unemployment, do ya?
COSTELLO: That would be frightening.
ABBOTT: Absolutely.
COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two
Ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT: Correct.
COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a
Job?
ABBOTT: Bingo.
COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the
Easier of the two is to just stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like an economist.
COSTELLO: I don't even know what the hell I just said!
ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like a politician.

The settlement results in a payment to the City of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00.) The settlement also states that there is no admission of fault by Siemens. The City will continue to pursue its case against other parties named in the lawsuit.

The Other Bricks

As I mentioned earlier in a comment on the Bricks, here's what we're subjected to for years now, yet Code & Compliance hasn't done a thing to keep this property up. I wonder why?

If the Daily Times wants to go around shoving projects down the taxpayers throats, perhaps they should do stories about ALL of the buildings around Salisbury that are abandoned. I'm sure I have hundreds of them in my files. How about the Allfirst Bank on the Plaza.

How about the Vernon Powell building on the Plaza.

The ONLY reason the Bricks is a big deal is because Jim Ireton controlls the Daily Times. They did articles on the Bricks two days in a row. Do as I say, not as I do, right Greg Bassett?

This City simply needs a new Mayor, period. We're all subjected to abandoned buildings and homes throughout Salisbury. In time we will figure out what can be done but we'll do so through investors and NOT more grants. In other words, not off the taxpayers backs. I'd rather do it right with people who are INTERESTED in Salisbury and NOT with easy grant money to create an Inner City.

Look at Ireton's pattern Ladies & Gentlemen. He's not doing anything, other than Section 8, affordable and subsidized housing units, even Downtown. We'll see what the Voters want come April. I'm banking on the fact that the citizens want it done right and that's why they'll vote for me.

Is The Editorial Board At The Daily Times Simply Clueless?

They must enjoy getting pounded by Salisbury News. I'm actually starting to believe Greg Bassett & Co. really don't understand or believe that we're much bigger than the Daily Times any more, but it's whatever.

In today's Our View, the DT's goes after the City Council once again, yet they clearly were told, (once again) one side of the story. Let me spell it out for you Mr. Bassett.

The Mayor tried to pull a fast one on the Council by trying to mortgage that property WITHOUT their knowledge. When the Council saw what the Mayor was trying to do they shut it down immediately.

Because the Mayor and his chosen two continue to play games, (just as the former Mayor and Council did) they won't have it any more. If some of you are wondering why Jim Ireton is so pissed off any more it's because this Council is too smart for his games and the games of former administrations.

Then they get the Daily Times to spew their hate towards the Council and while the Council majority seem unpopular, they're actually out there covering your rear ends financially.

How the Daily Times can continue to publish such garbage, acting as if there are millions upon millions of dollars floating around to blow on more section 8 housing is beyond me. Their claim is that people have been looking at an empty building for too long. Tough Crap! Spend a day in Detroit Mr. Bassett and maybe you'll come home to a beautiful City. However, you keep pushing our representatives to blow money on something we can't afford, we'll look like Detroit in no time and it will be your fault.

The Daily Times has no vested interest in these kind of projects. I could see if THEY were putting their money where their mouth is but instead they sit back and try to control the entire City with more garbage.

Here's another thought Mr. Bassett. Why don't you have a reporter spend some time researching how many affordable housing units there are in Salisbury. Then check out if the County has ANY. Then compare Salisbury, (per capita) to other Cities in Maryland and see just where we stand. Don't sit there and state Salisbury desperately needs more housing units like this in that area.

What we need Mr. Bassett is a Mayor who can bring JOBS to Salisbury. We need to become less dependent and more independent. Or are you trying to tell us all that Obama has screwed us so bad that we better start renovating properties for section 8 housing because it's NOT going to get any better any time soon.

The Bricks is a dead issue. Mayor Ireton needs to learn to pick his battles carefully because Salisbury News reaches far more local people than the Daily Times and we'll continue to crush them every time they spew this crap.

OH, BY THE WAY GREG. WE'VE BEEN SUBJECTED TO LOOKING AT YOUR RUN DOWN BUILDING ACROSS THE STREET FROM PRMC THAT STILL SAYS THE DAILY TIMES ON IT. YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO TALK.
