Collier-40 of Brooklyn, NY entered the Zales Jewelry Store and approached a female employee and asked to look at engagement rings. After looking at several rings, Collier reached into his waistband, produced a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the female employee, demanding that she put jewelry into a “tote” style bag that he also produced. Collier also ordered the three other female employees at gunpoint to assist in filling the bag with jewelry. After loading the bag with the merchandise, Collier ordered all four female employees into a bathroom/office inside of the store. Collier then fled on foot from the store and into the Macy’s store located adjacent to the Zales. After Collier fled the store, one of the Zale’s employees contacted a Christiana Mall Security Officer and advised him of the robbery and was able to provide a description of the suspect. The Christiana Mall Security dispatch centered issued a general broadcast to its officers with details of the robbery and suspect description. A second Christiana Mall Security Officer spotted a suspect matching the description exit the Macy’s store and get into a brown Ford Expedition with Georgia registration, and exit the mall onto I95. Museum of Endangered Sounds: Phil Hadad, Marybeth Ledesma, and Greg Elwood Explain Their Project

Maybe you remember the sound of a cassette rewinding, a payphone's "We're Sorry" message , the sweet sounds of Tetris on a Gameboy, or even the clicks when dialing on an old rotary phone. If you don't, you're still in for a treat, since the trio from the Museum of Endangered Sounds has preserved these treasures for all to enjoy. We interviewed Phil Hadad, Marybeth Ledesma, and Greg Elwood -- three recent graduates from VCU Brandcenter in Richmond, Virginia -- about their project, and their answers are below.

States Passing Fewer Immigration Laws, Report Shows

State legislatures passed 20 percent fewer immigration laws in the first half of this year than at the same time last year, according to a new report by the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Lawmakers in 41 states enacted 114 bills and 92 resolutions that dealt with immigration between Jan. 1 and June 30 this year, compared with 257 such laws enacted during the same time period last year, according to the report released on Monday.

States delayed immigration legislation in part as they waited for the Supreme Court to rule on the states' authority to enforce immigration laws, said John Watkins, a Republican state senator in Virginia who co-chairs the conference's Task Force on Immigration and the States.

Greece: 6,000 Detained During Raids on Immigrants

Authorities in Greece are rounding up thousands of suspected illegal immigrants in a large-scale deportation drive to combat what a government official compared to a prehistoric invasion.

Greece has long been Europe's main entry point for illegal immigrants from Asia and Africa seeking a better life in the West. But Greece's severe economic problems and high unemployment are making the problem worse than ever.

Police said Monday that 6,000 people were detained over the weekend in Athens in a massive operation incongruously named after the ancient Greek god of hospitality, Zeus Xenios.

Safe American toys for kids

There are many American companies in many different industries there the entire line of products is American-made, and I enjoy writing about them precisely because of that fact. But what’s particularly comforting (and pleasantly surprising) is when you discover a major U.S. company that fulfills that description and does so in a category like toys – a category in which the majority of the competition is producing overseas.

That’s exactly the case with American Plastic Toys, Inc.

Since 1962, American Plastic Toys has been manufacturing safe, durable, and quality toys in United States, and the company currently operates five facilities in Mississippi and Michigan. Their expansive product line includes over 125 different items ranging all the way from a simple sand pail to an entire play kitchen.

NUGENT: Whacky Harry Reid Talks Trash About Romney

You have to know that times are desperate in the Obama campaign when Sen. Harry Reid is trotted out to contend that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for a decade.

Never one to let facts get in the way, the Democratic Senate majority leader offered no damning public statement regarding his views on Mr. Obama’s tax cheat czar Timothy Geithner a few years ago or good old leftist buddy Tom Daschle’s failure to pay his taxes. Then there is my favorite, Rep. Charles Rangel of “what me worry, who me, what taxes?” fame.

Where has Mr. Reid been on the subject of dozens of staff members of the Obama administration who are delinquent in paying almost $1 million in taxes? What say you about this, you old watchdog, Mr. Reid?

Court Rules DOJ Politicized Black Panther Case

Judicial Watch has been confident for some time that the evidence shows that political appointees at the Holder Department of Justice (DOJ) were involved in the decision to abandon the DOJ’s own voter intimidation lawsuit against the New Black Panther Party. And we’ve also been concerned that at least one high ranking DOJ official lied about it under oath.

In a major victory for Judicial Watch, a federal court seems to agree with our analysis of this continuing scandal.

Taxpayer-Backed Free Lunch Program Feeds Controversy in California

Every summer across the U.S., more than 3 million children eat for free at more than 30,000 sites, from schools to recreation centers to migrant worker camps. It's a valuable resource for families who are struggling, and, critics say, a nice freebie for those who aren't.

The "Summer Fun Cafe" in Northern California and others like it are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in areas where at least half the children qualify for free lunches during the regular school year.

But come summer, anyone 18 and under can pull up a chair to Uncle Sam's table.

Obama Administration Paves the Way for Sharia Law

The most terrifying danger Americans face from a second Barack Obama term isn’t the economy, which is scary enough.

The most harrowing prospect is the Obama Administration’s passivity in the face of attempts to introduce aspects of sharia law into our legal system.  Now there is strong and open evidence of the Obama administration collaborating with Islamist activists to ensure the path toward sharia law is accelerated.

Just last week, Thomas Perez, Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division, was asked this question by Trent Franks (R-AZ), a member of the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution: "Will you tell us here today that this Administration's Department of Justice will never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion?"

Perez refused to answer. Four times

Coming Soon: The Next Generation Of Cruise Ships

The current generation of new cruise ships -- designed before the 2008 economic bust but not delivered until 2010 or later -- is just starting to feel comfortable to many of us. But a whole new generation of vessels designed after 2008 and reflecting the new economic realities is right around the corner.

These next-generation ships will start arriving as soon as April 2013, with three cruise lines introducing new models by June. These new ships are bigger than average, but not the biggest, and their facilities are somewhat more compact. But most importantly, they embody a new ethos, striving to provide the kind of cruise experience that gives passengers what they want but still keeps the cruise lines profitable.

These new cruise ships will fit more passengers into ship sizes that used to feel pretty roomy. But the new “snug fitting” designs don't necessarily mean ships will feel overly crowded. After a few design generations, the cruise lines now seem to have a handle on maximizing the efficiency of space. In an automobile analogy, we may be losing the bench seats and tail fins, but we are getting bucket seats and computer-aided entertainment centers.

Obama's 2nd-Term Plans For Your Paycheck Exposed

An explosive book released today documents how progressive organizations behind White House policy have crafted specific, second-term plans for the federal government to determine the “value” of individual jobs in the private sector instead of allowing employers to pay what they want.

Other second term “economic fairness” plans include concentrating more power with the federal government to rectify “bias” and “discrimination” in the workforce regarding salaries for “equivalent” – but not necessarily equal – jobs in the private sector.

This is in addition to the enactment of a “living wage” that would force all employers to increase the salaries of the nation’s workers to meet “basic needs” such as housing, food, utilities, transportation, health care and recreation.

Obama’s College Classmate: ‘The Obama Scandal Is at Columbia’

I am President Obama’s classmate at Columbia University, Class of ’83. I am also one of the most accurate Las Vegas oddsmakers and prognosticators. Accurate enough that I was awarded my own star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. And I smell something rotten in Denmark. Obama has a big skeleton in his closet. It’s his college records. Call it “gut instinct” but my gut is almost always right. Obama has a secret hidden at Columbia- and it’s a bad one that threatens to bring down his presidency. Gut instinct is how I’ve made my living for 29 years since graduating Columbia.

Obama and his infamous strategist David Axelrod understand how to play political hardball, the best its ever been played. Team Obama has decided to distract America’s voters by condemning Mitt Romney for not releasing enough years of his tax returns. It’s the perfect cover. Obama knows the best defense is a bold offense. Just keep attacking Mitt and blaming him for secrecy and evasion, while accusing him of having a scandal that doesn’t exist. Then ask followers like Senator Harry Reid to chase the lead. The U.S. Senate Majority Leader appears to now be making up stories out of thin air, about tax returns he knows nothing about. It’s a cynical, brilliant and vicious strategy. Make Romney defend, so he can’t attack the real Obama scandal.

Baby Boomers Bamboozled: Social Security Fades Into A Dreamtime Haze

As recently as 1985, workers at every income level could retire and expect to get more in benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes, though they didn't do quite as well as their parents and grandparents. Not anymore. A married couple retiring last year after both spouses earned average lifetime wages paid about $598,000 in Social Security taxes during their careers. They can expect to collect about $556,000 in benefits, if the man lives to 82 and the woman lives to 85, according to a 2011 study by the Urban Institute, a Washington think tank. ... The shift among middle-income workers is happening just as millions of baby boomers are reaching retirement, leaving relatively fewer workers behind to pay into the system. It's coming at a critical time for Social Security, the federal government's largest program. – Reuters

Dominant Social Theme: If we work hard, government will take care of us.

Free-Market Analysis: Social Security is gradually fading away for most Baby Boomers. What the '60s generation in both Europe and America doesn't understand is that government isn't here to help them. Modern regulatory democracy is supposed to give way to global governance. That's obviously the plan.

Social Security started out well enough, of course. The first person to receive a check was Ida May Fuller who paid Social Security taxes for three years that came to a total of $24.75. Her very first monthly check in 1940 was for $22.54. And since she lived to be 100, she collected $22,888.92.

The Roosevelt administration made a big deal out of Fuller and the benefits she received. But in reality, Social Security was just like any other big government program. It was built to fail.

Obama Taps Hollywood For Campaign Cash To Match Romney’s Haul

Beaten in the money chase by Republican challenger Mitt Romney for the third straight month, President Obama on Monday turned again to one of the Democratic Party’s most lucrative and reliable sources of campaign cash — Hollywood.

But instead of flying all the way to Southern California, the president settled for a shorter trip Monday evening to the $15 million beachfront Connecticut estate of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein for a $35,800-per-person fundraiser with a guest list that included screenwriter and producer Aaron Sorkin and actress Anne Hathaway, star of the new Batman blockbuster “The Dark Knight Rises.” Mr. Obama also planned a larger campaign event for about 500 people at a hotel in Stamford, Conn., where tickets start at $500 each.

The quick trip was projected to raise about $2.5 million for the president’s re-election fund and for other Democratic Party campaign war chests.

MBRG Report

Roll Call:
McDermott Scores 100% from MBRG
(Maryland Business for Responsive Government)

Delegate Michael McDermott (R-Dist. 38-B) was recently recognized as receiving a 100% rating from the MBRG. This marks the second consecutive year that Del. McDermott has received the highest rating as a legislator who is supporting business and a business friendly climate in Maryland.

To determine an accurate picture of the Maryland legislature's attitudes toward business, jobs, economic growth, and investment in the state, MBRG's 30-member State Advisory Council selects votes from the last regular and special General Assembly sessions that have practical or philosophical importance to the widest possible range of Maryland businesses, trade associations, and chambers of commerce. Before introducing or voting on legislation, the MBRG encourages legislators to consider the following questions:

1. Will the legislation increase or decrease the cost of doing business for companies in Maryland? If the answer is increase, will the added costs of the legislation and subsequent regulations exceed the added benefit to Maryland's residents?

2. Will the legislation and subsequent regulations be more or less stringent than, or contradictory to, federal law and regulations; or will it give Maryland a competitive advantage or disadvantage with other states?

3. Will the legislation encourage or discourage companies from adding new jobs or keeping current jobs in Maryland?

4. Will the legislation encourage or discourage individuals and businesses from investing and building?

5. Will the legislation promote or impede the competitive market by removing or imposing legal, economic and/or regulatory burdens, taxes, or costs?

6. Is there another way to solve the problem or address the issue without legislation; or is there existing legislation addressing the matter?

7. Will introducing the bill send a positive or negative message about Maryland's business climate?

Here’s how the rest of the lower shore delegation rated with business in 2011 and 2012:

Cold Hard Facts On Gun Bans: 'The Cost Of Liberty Can Be Measured In The Loss Of Life'

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.”
~ Thomas Jefferson

While anti-gun advocates put forth every argument under the sun for why you should not be able to own a “high capacity” magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, or that you shouldn’t be able to buy ammunition online, or that police should stop going to work until guns have been completely banned, the evidence for disarmament of law abiding citizens as a failed policy is overwhelming.

In Chicago, where guns have essentially been banned for personal defense, the murder of innocents has risen so sharply in recent months that Mayor Rahm Emanual has been left with no other option but to call on criminals to look to their morals and values to stop the carnage. Washington D.C., which bans the carrying of concealed weapons, has maintained one of the highest gun crime murder rates in the country for over three decades – since the legislation was passed in 1975. As the Washington Post notes, the disarming of local residents has been wholly ineffective noting that the “guns kept coming, and bodies kept falling.”

These localized examples of the detrimental effects of restrictive gun policies are nothing, however, when compared to what’s happened in Australia, where the government implemented a “buy back” program in 1997 that completely banned gun ownership for the general population. While Australia’s politician promised a lower crime rate once the ban was in place, the disarming of its citizens has led to exactly the opposite effect.

Romney’s July Cash Haul Brightens GOP Mood

Erasing all doubts about his fundraising abilities, Mitt Romney on Monday announced that he and his allies raked in $100 million for the second straight month, again topping President Obama and handing the Republican a much-needed public relations boost as he prepares to accept his party’s presidential nomination this month.

As recently as January, when the candidate was in the middle of a bruising primary, Mr. Romney’s fundraising was giving Republicans pause. But since acquiring enough nomination delegates, the former Massachusetts governor has been unstoppable.

QUOTES OF THE DAY 8-7-12

“The basic scam in the Internet age is pretty easy even for the financially illiterate to grasp. It was as if banks like Goldman were wrapping ribbons around watermelons, tossing them out fiftieth-story windows, and opening the phones for bids. In this game you were a winner only if you took your money out before the melon hit the pavement.”
- Matt Taibbi – Griftopia

“The truth is that banks are the last feudal kingdoms, their rulers omnipotent, divine warlords. Their key lieutenants are ‘ronin’ (wandering mercenary samurai) who roam financial markets ready to ally themselves to any warlord for a share of plunder. This is not the place to apply the latest management theory.”
― Satyajit Das – Traders, Guns & Money

Will We Have To Wait For A 21st Century Peasants' Revolt Before Seeing Any Real Change

While everyone from Tony Blair to Nouriel Roubini is debating whether or not bankers should be hung, the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg provide some fascinating historical context.

The journal's Jason Zweig reports:

Financial criminals throughout history have been beaten, tortured and even put to death, with little evidence that severe punishments have consistently deterred people from misconduct that could make them rich.

The history of drastic punishment for financial crimes may be nearly as old as wealth itself.

The Code of Hammurabi, more than 3,700 years ago, stipulated that any Mesopotamian who violated the terms of a financial contract – including the futures contracts that were commonly used in commodities trading in Babylon – “shall be put to death as a thief.” The severe penalty doesn’t seem to have eradicated such cheating, however.

How Many Dependents?

I just received my tax return for 2011 back from the IRS. It puzzles me!!! They are questioning how many dependents I claimed. I guess it was because of my response to the question: "How many dependents?" I replied: 12 million illegal immigrants; 3 million crack heads; 42 million unemployed people on food stamps, 2 million people in over 243 prisons; Half of Central America; 535 persons in the U.S. House and Senate and 1 useless President. Evidently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.

I KEEP ASKING MYSELF, WHOM DID I MISS?

70 Facts About Our Economy Obama Probably Doesn’t Want You To See

A stunning collection of 70 facts about the U.S. economy just posted on the web is probably not going to make it into the next campaign ad from the folks at Obama for America. However, you might want to read it.

TheBlaze has culled 10 from the list of 70 here:

The price of gas – When Obama took office, a gallon of gas cost you $1.85. Today, it’s up to $3.59 per gallon (July’s rise was 17 cents a gallon).

71% of small business owners believe we’re still in a recession — Despite government claims that the recession actually ended years ago, a majority of small business owners feel very differently.
You have to work 107 days each year just to pay Federal, State, & Local taxes – That means you don’t earn a penny until April 18th.

More than 30% of unemployed Americans have been out of work for more than a year – In 2007, that number was 10%.

Low income America – According to NBC News, virtually half of all Americans are considered to be “low income” or living in poverty.

Trump Renews Push To Unseal Obama Records

Donald Trump is calling on Obama to release his sealed records in exchange for Gov. Mitt Romney’s tax returns, declaring it would be “a wonderful trade.”

“I’ve said it a lot, that if Obama opened up his records, maybe Mitt should give his returns,” Trump told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.” “That would be a great trade. I guarantee it would be a really wonderful trade.”

Trump offered a list of sealed documents he believes Obama should present for the deal.

Employers Beware: What You Need To Know

Government Tramples Individual’s Rights in Indiana

In Armour v. City of Indianapolis, (No. 11-161 6-4-12) the Supreme Court again decided to ignore the Constitution and side with the government on very unsteady ground. At issue was whether the City had to pay back to certain homeowners money it had collected for a sewer assessment that it was later able to obtain funding for (through bonds). While the plaintiffs in this case paid the entire assessment (some $9,000 up front), the other homeowners who elected to pay the assessment over time had the amounts remaining due forgiven. While this would seem to violate the Equal Protection Clause with the government favoring one group of citizens over another, the court disagreed. Because the right at issue was economic rather than a “fundamental” right, the court applied the “rational basis” test. In other words, did the City have a rational basis to make the distinction between the homeowners who paid the assessment up front and the homeowners who chose to pay it over time.

The City’s “rational basis” was that it was inconvenient to issue the refunds.
To his credit, Chief Justice Roberts indicated in his dissent that: “The Equal Protection Clause does not provide that no state shall ‘deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws, unless it’s too much of a bother.’” Only Scalia and Alito joined the dissent, leaving this the current law of the land as stated by a majority of 6. Your economic rights can be trampled on by government. One can only dream of the time when the American public wakes up and starts electing libertarian officials to dismantle the non-working nonsensical unconstitutional parts of our government and demand that the Constitution be followed in a logical consistent way and that the rights given to individuals in the Constitution are resuscitated.

Chris Thomas Memorial Tennis Tournament At Salisbury University

Professional-level tennis returns to Salisbury August 15 - 19 with the Jack Purnell-Chris Thomas Memorial Tennis Tournament at Salisbury University

Some of the world’s top tennis pros mingle with local amateurs and families during the ninth annual Jack Purnell-Chris Thomas Memorial Tennis Tournament at Salisbury University.

The event opens with Community Tennis Night from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, at the SU tennis courts on College Avenue. Guests of all ages are invited to meet this year’s players in person and watch them compete in events including fastest and most accurate serve competitions. SU tennis coach Randy Halfpap hosts a free Junior Tennis Clinic for players ages 18 and under beginning at 4:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m., local amateurs also will have a chance to play with the professionals during the tournament’s second annual pro-am challenge. The entry fee for amateur players is a $50 tax-deductable contribution to Coastal Hospice, the tournament’s beneficiary. Space is limited, and advance sign-ups are recommended.

The pro-am may be a welcome diversion for some players, who will compete for $30,000 in prize money during the five-day men’s open doubles and singles tournament, Wednesday-Sunday, August 15-19.

Many professional players ranked as high as 150 in the world will enter the draw. Some take advantage of the proximity of this tournament to the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in New York City as a warm-up and practice for the Open. The court surface and weather conditions, including heat and humidity are similar to those the players experience in the Big Apple the week following Purnell-Thomas. Veterans of the tournament have been the focus of international attention at Wimbledon and, more recently, at the Summer Olympics in London, where they represented their countries.

In addition to the pros and amateurs, local television personalities battle for bragging rights at this year’s tournament during the second annual Coastal Hospice Challenge 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, at 10 a.m. Doubles teams from WBOC and WMDT are expected to pick up the rackets in this friendly winners-take-all competition.

The tournament is named in honor of two late local tennis players. Born in 1929, Purnell was an avid baseball player and went on to become the youngest general manager for a farm team of the Cincinnati Reds before working in the public relations office of the National Baseball League. After returning to Salisbury he operated his family’s business, Kuhn’s Jewelers, and took up tennis and golf. He was a community advocate and founding board member of Coastal Hospice prior to dying of cancer in 2002.

Thomas grew up in southern New Jersey and Salisbury. A natural athlete, he was a graduate of SU, where he was a member of the men’s tennis team. He left the East Coast in 1980 to work as a tennis pro in Hawaii and Guam. He returned to the area in 1981. Admission to the Purnell-Thomas Tennis Tournament is free and the public is invited. Play is continuous daily from 10 am – 9: 30 pm.

New Tunnel To Be Constructed Under Rockville Pike

The Defense Department has given Montgomery County a $40 million grant to safely link two major federal facilities separated by a six-lane highway. County officials will construct a tunnel under Rockville Pike so people can walk or bike between the National Institutes of Health main campus and the Walter Reed National Medical Center. NIH is on the southbound side of the Pike, where the Metro station is. Walter Reed is on the northbound side. Until the tunnel is built, it's a death-defying crosswalk. The Metro station will also get new elevators.

Help Support The Main Street Gym

The Main Street Gym and the people that run it try to hold fundraisers every so often to keep the Gym up and running.

Hal and Nancy Chernoff, (along with an incredible group of friends) provide an incredible environment for young children in Salisbury to get off the streets and get them involved in exercise programs.

While I consider these people good friends, they never overwhelm me with, hey Joe, can you help us with this or that all the time. Instead, when they do come to me they ask if I can put something up on Salisbury News to help promote their fundraisers.

In this case they're offering a full day charter fishing trip for $10.00 per ticket. They'll do the drawing this Saturday in Ocean City. Here's how I personally see it. If you buy a ticket you're giving back to your community. If you win, well, you are in for one heck of a day, let me assure you. I know the boat owner and let me assure you, this guy does everything first class.

If you'd like a ticket please give Hal a call at 410-430-6687 or stop by the Main Street Gym in the evening. I think you all know, if I don't like a certain group I won't push to help them. This is a very special group and I'd like you to help them. In fact, if you've never been to the Main Street Gym, I highly recommend you stop in and see their facility. It will blow you away.

Thank You For Your Support

They Are NOT There For Your Safety

I read the article below and my first thought was, this is how riots start. Read it for yourself, I recommend you do so on an empty stomach because if you don’t you might be wearing your last meal.

Incidents like this, the incident in Anaheim that has sparked Disneyworld to resemble a warzone and the elderly man tasered inside his own home for not going to the hospital, are seemingly more commonplace than ever. This may only be a perception due to the availability of info on the internet, but instead of using that statement as a scapegoat to be dismissive of the issue, we should be using it to address the situation. The police are not there for your safety.

Lesson to be learned: There is an increasing likelihood that you will regret seeking help from a police officer, therefore do so at your own risk.

I personally don’t want to sub-contract my safety to a third-party. I want to be able to protect myself and my family as I see fit. I don’t want/need the men in blue to kick in my door or my neighbors door for “our own good.” I don’t support the idea of a monopolistic police force (publicly funded or not) that is essentially above the law. Who watches the Watchmen?

Mayor Bloomberg grandstanded in the wake of the Aurora Massacre that the police should “go on strike” until the public as a whole give up their firearms. I am starting to work on an article about this very topic. There are many good police officers out there and I know it would be quite painful to deal with traffic accidents and domestic disputes with no public police force available. But with the current police force out there today and all the normal abuses and terrorism we as the public are forced to endure from them along with the paramilitary and military trajectory they are on would we be better off if the police took Mayor Bloomberg’s suggestion? And then we didn’t give into their demands? If it’s a package deal which would you choose?

It would be far from painless, but safety can’t be guaranteed no matter how many rights are given up and what is going on today is simply unsustainable, eventually something much worse is going to happen.

OGE Missed Signs Of GSA Ethics Violations, Memo Says

A memo by a government watchdog group finds the General Services Administration's ethics program received high marks in a November 2010 study from the Office of Government Ethics. The OGE report was released one month after GSA threw the lavish Las Vegas conference that led to the firings of top officials, the resignation of Administrator Martha Johnson and a slew of congressional hearings.

The review by OGE said GSA's ethics program appeared "effectively administered and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies." In addition, OGE said GSA had developed "model practices" for ethics procedures.

But, Cause of Action said OGE missed obvious warnings in its review of GSA's ethics program.

Lost Black Pomeranian: UPDATE

I just wanted to update and let everyone know that Kali was found this morning around 7:30 am. She is doing good and the Pet ER did a thorough health check. My family is so touched by everyone's generosity. Thanks to all the vets and techs along with their friends helping us search all morning and night. Thanks to the owner of this site for being so kind as to post and share this info. I could go on and on..

We've had our dog for 7 years, and on vacation at the beach she got sick. We took her to Pet's ER in Salisbury and while they were taking her to the bathroom, she ran off.

My wife and I got a call in the middle of the night telling us and we've been looking ever since. Worst thing about all of this was that we also owned her mom whom just passed away about 2 months ago from old age. Please help and post this.

I sincerely appreciate anything you can do for us!

Where's The Outrage From Young Americans About Obama's Health Reforms?

President Obama’s 2010 health reform law has been heralded by its supporters as strongly beneficial for young Americans. After all, the ACA decrees that all health insurance plans that offer any dependent coverage must offer coverage to enrollees’ “adult children” (the terminology used in the law) until age 26, even if the adult child no longer lives with his or her parents, is not a dependent on a parent’s tax return, or is no longer a student … even if the adult child is married. And the uninsured rate for those between 19 and 26 has indeed decreased.

So what’s not to like about the health law for young Americans? The under-appreciated truth is that the ACA has serious adverse impacts on young Americans, far more significant and longer lasting than temporary eligibility to remain on a parent’s insurance.

Health insurance costs are now dramatically shifted onto the backs of younger, healthier adults. Proponents of the ACA claim that those shunning insurance are responsible for shifting massive costs to insured Americans, thereby raising insurance prices significantly without the ACA’s individual mandate. This is factually false. Generally, the population at whom the mandate is directed – those who voluntarily do not buy insurance and are not eligible for current government insurance – tend to be younger, healthier, and use far less medical care, on average about $850 and only $56 per year in emergency care. Based on both household survey and provider data, uninsured health care shifts only 0.8% to at most 1.7% of expenditures toward those already insured.

Sellers Say Tax Driving Big Boats Out of Md.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Hamilton Chaney lost a customer last week.

Dr. Richard Rende, a 60-year-old orthopedic surgeon from Steamboat Springs, Colo., told Chaney his 48-foot sailing catamaran would be departing early from Herrington Harbour North, the marina Chaney's family owns in southern Anne Arundel County.

On June 25, he arrived at the marina, where he pays $1,000 a month to dock. He has spent $30,000 in Maryland _ mostly on boat work with different companies, but also at local restaurants and hotels.

But Rende is leaving for Delaware to avoid Maryland's vessel excise tax, which would force him to pay 5 percent of the value of his boat if he stayed in the state longer than 90 days this year.

Anthony Brown

I consider myself fortunate for a number of reasons: the privilege to serve the people of Maryland, the ability to make a real difference in the lives of families, and the opportunity to move our great State forward through difficult economic times.

I am also fortunate that I have had a true partner in governing from the day I took office – your Lieutenant Governor, and my friend, Anthony Brown. Anthony is an outstanding public servant, and I have seen first-hand the results we’ve achieved becaused of Anthony’s leadership on efforts to create jobs, improve healthcare, and make college more affordable for more families.

No matter what lies ahead for Anthony in public service, I know that I will be with him 100 percent, because I believe that our State, our communities, and all Marylanders will benefit greatly with Anthony bringing people together to work for our shared priorities.

As Lieutenant Governor, Anthony has pushed hard to get our economic initiatives passed to protect our investments in education and job creation. He is nationally recognized for his leadership on behalf of our veterans, and he has developed groundbreaking new laws to protect victims of domestic violence.

The challenges facing Maryland have not been easy, and our progress would not have been possible without Anthony’s leadership and determination. Together, we’ve made the largest investment in our State’s history in public education, and Maryland’s public schools have been ranked number one in the nation four years in a row. Together, we have been able to maintain Maryland’s Triple A bond rating. And together, we’ve been able to recover 65 percent of jobs lost during the Great Recession and keep our unemployment rate more than 15 percent below the national average.

Throughout all of these challenges, Anthony has been by my side every step of the way. He has taken the lead on some of the most difficult measures our administration has pursued, from expanding and improving the delivery of health care and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid, to strengthening Maryland laws protecting neglected children, to taking guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. He has leveraged legislative experience, consensus-building skills, and intelligence to pass many of our most critical priorities.

We have to work hard to make sure this progress continues well into the future, and that our State continues to move forward. For these reasons and more, I urge Anthony to continue his public service and pursue the greatest possible level of public responsibility. He has been my partner day in and day out, and he understands what needs to be done to make sure our state moves forward, not back.

After nearly six years of working together, I know that Anthony understands better than anyone how our government works, and more importantly, how to ensure it works best to improve the lives of our citizens. More than any other public official, Anthony Brown has my complete trust in his ability to serve the best interests of Maryland.

Over the coming months, I will be working hard to make sure Maryland benefits from Anthony’s continued leadership and that the progress we have made together continues well into the future. I hope you will join me in supporting Anthony in his commitment to build on the progress we’ve made in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Martin O’Malley

P.S. Please take the time to visit www.AnthonyBrown.com to learn more about Anthony’s story, his family, his military service, and the hard work he’s doing every day to move Maryland forward.

UK bank, Iran accused of scheme that left US financial system 'vulnerable to terrorists'

A British bank schemed with the Iranian government to launder $250 billion from 2001 to 2007, leaving the United States' financial system "vulnerable to terrorists," New York's financial regulator charged Monday.

State Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky signed an order that requires London-based Standard Chartered Bank to answer his questions following an investigation into "wire stripping," the practice of removing crucial identifiers in financial transactions.

The state agency called the bank a rogue institution and quoted one of its executives as saying: "You (expletive) Americans. Who are you to tell us, the rest of the world, that we're not going to deal with Iranians."

The documents, obtained through a public records request, show Sybrina Fulton applied for the compensation benefits after her son was fatally shot last February by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. It was not immediately clear how Martin's family would use the money.

Refinery Fire Fully Contained But Continues To Burn

A diesel leak that quickly erupted into a large fire at the Chevron refinery Monday evening forced people for miles around to shelter in their home. The fire was contained four hours later but it caused the refinery, the largest in Northern California, to shut down all production, which is expected to cause a spike in gas prices in days to come.

The fire began at 6:15 p.m. in the No. 4 Crude Unit at the Richmond refinery. Officials say workers noticed a leak and called for an inspection team. They realized it was a serious problem so they evacuated the unit and that's when the leak ignited.

14 AGs Oppose Maryland Appeal Of Gun-permit Ruling

The attorneys general of Virginia and 13 other states have filed an amicus brief urging the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to affirm the ruling of a federal judge in Baltimore, who found that Maryland’s requirements for carrying a concealed weapon violate the Second Amendment.

The 4th Circuit last week expedited Maryland’s appeal of that ruling, under which the state would be forced to drop the requirement that a permit applicant show a “good and substantial reason” for carrying a concealed weapon.

The 4th Circuit said it would hear argument in the case in late October and, meanwhile, the permit requirements can stay as they are.

The case is Woollard v. Gallagher, US4th No 12-1437.
