Paul's Bid to be Nominated for GOP President Ends

Republican Rep. Ron Paul’s bid to be nominated for president at the party’s national convention ended Saturday when he failed to win enough delegates at Nebraska’s state GOP convention.

Paul, R-Texas, won two of the state's 35 convention delegates with presumptive nominee Mitt Romney securing the rest, according to The Hill newspaper.

Paul essentially stopped campaigning months ago and has instead focused on winning delegates at state conventions to get officially nominated at the Republican National Convention next month in Tampa, Fla.

If you want to get rid of the homeless problem then you have to make it uncomfortable to be homeless otherwise you encourage the problem.

anonymous 12:28, Excuse me Mr. Perfect but things happen in life.

Our President has driven good people into bankruptcy and placed tens of thousands of families onto the streets, with children.

The majority do not choose to be there but your local and national MSM cover these horrible stories up. No homeless, no bread lines, that kind of news doesn't SELL.

Being homeless IS uncomfortable. Unless you are a LIBERAL and know how to use the system to your advantage.

Do you all remember ALL of the food Salisbury News used to help deliver to the local homeless? Mayor Ireton and Chief Duncan put an immediate STOP to ALL of that. I haven't delivered a meal in 6 months now because THEY want to run each homeless person through a database to make sure every single one of them isn't a felon.

It's the LIBERAL agenda. YOU cannot eat unless you are drug and alcohol free. YOU cannot stay at the shelter LIBERALS demand you to stay in unless you are drug and alcohol free.

I WILL change all of that. We are AMERICANS first and I will forever, the rest of my life, do what it takes to make damn sure we are ALL equal.

I firmly disagree with Mayor Ireton and Chief Duncan on this issue, for the record.

Ireton's "Pep Rally"

Joe,

I’m looking at WBOC, WMDT, and DELMARVATHEN for a report on the Mayor’s 9 AM pep rally on the courthouse steps yesterday and I’m coming up empty. Can someone please direct me to the story? I just can’t seem to find it.

Publisher's Notes: Dear Anonymous, I'm confident the attendance was pitiful and probably even embarrassing. The citizens are learning through Salisbury News what's really behind the Mayor's actual plan for subsidized housing. The only people supporting the project probably have something to gain from it or are simply people who wear tin hats, followers, not leaders.

A LETTER SENT TO THE WICOMICO COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS

REF: Joe Alberos posting from a person about the WICOMICO COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY 7-14-12

Titled----Letter to the Editor.

It appears from reading, the situation at the Humane Society has gone from bad to worse ! I personally don't like my tax money given them & not being accounted for by legal accountant! Mr. Fitzgerald's being related to a Board Member is definitely NOT a healthy situation for the people of this County either.

Accountability has been needed there & is still needed.

Who appoints the Board of Directors anyway & what do they do to assure "things" are being done correctly?

Obama Hands $52M To His AARP Buddies

Today, the Department of Labor proudly announced that it had given away some $260 million in grants to various organizations through its Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is “a community service and work-based training program for older workers – providing subsidized, part-time, community service training for unemployed, low-income persons 55 or older who have poor employment prospects.”

Sounds great. Except the biggest recipients of SCSEP cash are Democratic political surrogates.

Martin O'Malley, Democratic Governors Chair, Ties Health Care Reform To Job Creation

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The head of the Democratic Governors Association, Martin O'Malley, said that while tackling economic issues is at the top of the list for Democratic gubernatorial candidates around the country, implementing the Affordable Care Act is also high on the list because it connects to job creation.
At the National Governors Association gathering here on Saturday, O'Malley, governor of Maryland, said that he sees health care reform and job creation going hand-in-hand as health care reform frees up state funds for other purposes. He made the comments after a health committee meeting that centered on controlling the cost of Medicaid.
"As Democrats, we should do a better job of saying that in order to be competitive, we need to stop wasting money on rising, out-of-control costs," O'Malley said.

At Annual Meeting, U.S. Governors Come Out Swinging Over Medicaid

The Supreme Court decision allowing U.S. states to opt out of expanding Medicaid, the health insurance program for the poor, is pitting governor against governor, with Democrats accusing Republicans of being more concerned with election-year politics than solving healthcare problems.

The issue that dominated the annual National Governors Association meeting this weekend in the historic Virginia town of Williamsburg was the court's ruling that Congress cannot penalize states who refuse to enroll a wider group of people in Medicaid, which is operated by states with federal reimbursements.

RON PAUL: ROMNEY CAMP IS SCARED ABOUT ME SPEAKING AT THE GOP CONVENTION

Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Friday said the Romney campaign is “insecure” about him speaking at the Republican National Convention next month, possibly because they’re concerned about him using it as a platform to rally his supporters.
Nebraska‘s state GOP convention Saturday is Paul’s last chance to win an official presence and speaking slot in Florida. Under the RNC’s bylaws, Paul needs to win a plurality of delegates in five states to be awarded a convention spot. So far, he has four: Iowa, Minnesota, Maine and Louisiana. Nebraska is his final hope, though even supporters admit it’s a long shot  .
“I think the Romney campaign organization is very insecure,” said Paul in an interview on Fox Business.

California Pain Doctor Duped by Dog X-ray in Sting

Investigators say a Southern California doctor saw enough from an X-ray to prescribe pain killers   to an undercover cop but missed the tail showing it was an image of a dog.
Police and Los Angeles County deputies on Thursday raided the Glendora urgent care clinic of 69-year-old Dr. Rolando Lodevico Atiga after a two-month investigation that included three undercover deputies posing as patients.
One of the undercover deputies showed Atiga an X-ray to prove she needed pain killers. The scan of her German shepherd clearly shows the dog's tail.

GUN SHOP VETO DRAWS LEGAL FIGHT

The latest location where the Second Amendment Foundation has taken its fight against unconstitutional limits on gun ownership is Alameda County, Calif., which changed the rules as three businessmen were trying to open a gun shop.
The Second Amendment Foundation   was integral in the landmark McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court case which determined that the Second Amendment provisions that individuals can have and own weapons applies to states.
That ruling followed a key decision in Washington, D.C., that earlier said the Second Amendment applied to individuals, not just militias.

State Police Upgrades to $7M Next Generation 911 System

The Board of Public Works approved Wednesday the State Police’s purchase of a $7.1 million advanced 911 system which could allow citizens to call, text or even tweet for help.

The State Police, which handles about 3% of the state’s crime calls, will not only be on the cutting-edge of technology, they’ll have, well, technology.

Presently, 21 of the agency’s statewide barracks locations lack an automated answering system. All police dispatchers except Frederick County’s –– which is located in a 911 call center –– rely on a regular telephone using a 10-digit number to receive calls transferred from 911 call centers.

National Ice Cream Day

PRESIDENT OBAMA: ‘IF YOU’VE GOT A BUSINESS — YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT. SOMEBODY ELSE MADE THAT HAPPEN’

The White House has released the transcript of President Obama’s recent speech in Roanoke, Virginia, and it holds a number of noteworthy statements.
“Channeling Elizabeth Warren,” in the words   of Jazz Shaw at Hot Air, Barack Obama said that successful Americans “didn’t get there” on their own.
The official transcript   relates:
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back.  They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.  You didn’t get there on your own.  I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

Mass. Legislators Overrules Governor to Bar Welfare From Being Spent on Vices

Massachusetts state legislators have made it harder to spend welfare dollars on goods like alcohol and beauty supplies over the objections of their governor.

The state House and Senate agreed on provisions prohibiting the expenditure of cash benefits, via a credit card-like EBT card that also holds food stamps, or certain items, like tattoos, and at certain establishments, like liquor stores, in late June, but Gov. Deval Patrick objected and amended the bill. (Click here for House bill.)

“I’ve had to drag our governor kicking and screaming all the way. … He took out all the items we prohibited: guns, jewelry. We also prohibited it at those stores. He took out nail shops,” said Shaunna O'Connell, a House Republican on the Ways and Means Committee who has led calls for, and has been repeatedly frustrated in, reforming the way welfare money is handed out.

His reasoning for reinstating them, she said, was along the lines of: “A woman may need to get her nails done for a job interview.”

JUDGE STRIKES DOWN PHILADELPHIA MAYOR’S BAN ON FEEDING THE HOMELESS IN PUBLIC PARKS

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter drew sharp criticism after attempting to ban community organizations from feeding the hungry and homeless in city parks in March.  One charitable group even offered to pay the fines of all those who violated the measure.
While Nutter claimed the ban would “protect the dignity of the homeless, cleanliness of the parks, and eliminate food health concerns,” Reverend Brian Jenkins of Chosen 300 Ministries commented: “These regulations are clearly designated not with the intent of protecting the health and dignity of the homeless, but are designed to tuck the homeless in a corner and pretend that the problem does not exist in our city.”

NEW TROOPERS GRADUATE FROM STATE POLICE ACADEMY

(SYKESVILLE, MD) – Lt. Governor Anthony Brown today joined Colonel Marcus L. Brown to congratulate the more than 80 new troopers who graduated from the Maryland State Police Training Academy and are ready to assume their new roles as state troopers.

After six months of intense academic and physical training in a residential police academy, the members of the 138th Maryland State Police Trooper Candidate Class graduated this morning during exercises held at Century High School in Sykesville, Md. There were 82 graduates in the class, including 16 military veterans and 16 who had a close relative who was or is a law enforcement officer. Twenty-four members of the class are enrolled in a concurrent degree program with Frederick Community College and will receive their associate of arts degree in criminal justice after completing a few additional courses.

“Our state and local law enforcement agencies are some of the finest in the country and have had a tremendous impact on reducing crime throughout Maryland to the lowest recorded levels since 1975,” said Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown. “This new class of troopers is the largest in our state’s history, and I know they will work hard to protect our communities and continue to make Maryland a wonderful place to live and raise a family. While Governor O’Malley and I have supported public safety initiatives such as the Maryland FiRST interoperable communication system, cross border crime information exchange programs, fugitive task forces, and the deployment of new State Police helicopters, today’s graduation represents the most significant investment of all: the men and women who wear our State Police uniform.”

“Your mission is to help and protect people,” Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Marcus L. Brown told the new troopers. “You are to be involved in ‘purposed policing,’ meaning everything you do as a trooper must be for a reason. Our ultimate goal is to impact the areas where crime is highest, where traffic issues are worst, and where help is needed most. You are to protect our citizens, prevent criminal acts and traffic crashes, and provide the highest quality of law enforcement services available anywhere.”

The members of Class 138 set amazing standards for charity involvement and support during their six months of training. They raised more than $25,000 to support Special Olympics Maryland. They participated in the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics and ran in the Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness for Special Olympics.

The oldest member of the class will be 43 next month and joined the State Police after retiring from a career in the military. The youngest member of the class turned 21 yesterday.

This trooper candidate class was the first police academy class in the state to receive specialized training in autism, including how to recognize the signs and how to appropriately respond to someone with autism. Their legal training encompassed instruction that ranged from constitutional law to what the new laws regarding scooters in Maryland are that take effect October 1.

The new troopers will report for duty to one of 22 barracks across Maryland after a few days off. They will be assigned to a field training trooper and begin another eight weeks of closely supervised instruction and training before being allowed to patrol alone.

The next Maryland State Police Training Academy class is expected to begin in mid-August, 2012. Anyone interested in a career with the Maryland State Police is urged to visit http://www.mdsp.org/ for more information.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CARROLL CO. SHOOTING THAT KILLED ONE AND WOUNDED ANOTHER

(ELDERSBURG, MD) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a Carroll County shooting early this morning that left one man dead and another injured.

The suspect is identified as Jacob B. Bircher, 24, of the unit-block of Wimert Ave., Westminster, Md. He was arrested by Maryland State Police just after 7:00 a.m. today on a church parking lot on Rt. 140 at Rt. 97 in Westminster. He is being held on a temporary felony warrant charging him with first degree murder. Additional charges are pending after consultation with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The deceased victim is identified as David J. Garrett, 36, of the 2100-block of Carmae Rd., Sykesville, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The injured victim is identified as Gary Hale, of the 3500-block of Granite Rd., Woodstock, Md. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is being treated for what is believed to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Just after 12:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack responded to a 911 call for a shooting at the Harvest Inn Restaurant and Bar, in the 2000-block of Liberty Road, Eldersburg. When troopers arrived, they found Garrett and Hale lying in the parking lot just outside the doors to the restaurant. Garrett was deceased and Hale was wounded.

The scene was secured and investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and the Westminster Barrack Criminal Investigation Section responded to conduct interviews with the more than two dozen patrons who were in and around the restaurant at the time of the shooting. Maryland State Police crime scene technicians responded to process the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates several people, including Garrett, Hale, and the suspect, Bircher, were standing outside on the parking lot talking when, for unknown reasons, Bircher began shooting at them. Witnesses said Bircher left the scene in a dark colored compact vehicle.

Troopers learned no one at the scene seemed to be familiar with Bircher prior to the shooting. It is unknown at this time what, if any, connection he had with the two victims.

Through interviews and evidence left at the scene, State Police investigators were able to identify the suspect as Jacob Bircher. Investigators from the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team were called out and began a search for Bircher. They were eventually able to reach Bircher by phone. Troopers convinced him to give himself up, which he did on the church parking lot in Westminster. He was arrested without incident.

A gun has not been recovered by State Police. The investigation is continuing.
