With Freedom Comes Responsibility
The shooting last night in Hebron was an accidental shooting. The four year old child was playing with the handgun. It fired into his chest, through his body, out his back, through a wall striking his Mother in the neck as she lay asleep in her bed.
It will be interesting how this will be handled as it is unlawful to leave a loaded gun in an area accessible to children.
I'd also like to know why we have WBI, (Wicomico Bureau of Investigation) yet the Maryland State Police Homicide Division has to be called in for serious crimes?
UPDATE: We have learned that sources close to Sheriff Mike Lewis have reported the father was allegedly in the kitchen cooking crack when the gun went off.
New Posts to fall below.
How unfortunate. My prayers are with this child. The press release was hard to understand but thank you for clearing this up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can put the detectives back on the street and let the state police handle these cases from here on out.
Somebody needs to be charged with something thats for darn sure.
ReplyDeleteBecause MSP got the call first. If that happens Homicide comes and WBI assists. That simple, not the conspiracy theory you think it is. MSP rules.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe that for sh!t. Four year old child doesnt have the hand strength to hold and fire a big hand gun. I dont believe it for a minute.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 2:28, makes sense to me. I had heard some information about some departments having issues with cases, (and I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) and wasn't sure if WBI was being challenged as well. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll trust you're accurate.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, i think that scenario is quite possible, especially if there was ball ammo (full metal jacket)loaded in the pistol. that could easily pass through a small childs' body, 2 thicknesses of drywall and still have enough energy to enter his mothers body in the next room. he did not have to have any amount of control for that to happen. simply to pick it up and have it pointed in the wrong direction.
ReplyDeletea foolish, fatal and entirely avoidable error in judgement on the part of the adults in that household.

ReplyDeleteYou are wrong. I used to have a S&W 44 magnum that had such a bad hair trigger I git rid of it! Trade in. I've grown up in a hunting family and have handled firearms for 40 years. The Smith and Wesson was purdy but damn not safe, yes even a child could pull it.
All revolvers are single action or double action. No Double action has a "Hair trigger" unless the hammer was already pulled back. If it was single action, I doubt a 4 year old has the strength to pull the trigger back. No Matter, if these parents aren't charged , it is definetly a miscarriage of justice. I hate to say it but their other child should be in the custody of the state and if the story update is true, they have no business being parents
ReplyDeleteI have experience with hand guns, and can't figure how a 4 year old could have the coordination or strength to hold a gun against his chest and pull the trigger. Doesn't sound right to me either!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the father is receiving some sort of Gov. assistance. Another reason for drug testing of welfare handouts.
ReplyDeleteWe have a whole world of people who have no right to be parents.
ReplyDeleteI heard on the radio a little bit ago that this wasn't the first time the child had been playing with the/a gun. It wasn't elaborated on so I have no idea what was meant by it.
ReplyDeleteA four-year old has the strength to pull a trigger on a double-action revolver by turning it so the end of the barrel faces his chest and then squeezes the trigger using both thumbs. That explains how the child was shot where he was. Elementary my dear Watson, elementary.
ReplyDeletemy son could climb a tree at 4 years old. I am sure a lot of 4 year old's could pull a trigger. if a bullet is in the chamber it an't hard to shoot a gun.
ReplyDeleteAny responsible person that owns a gunshould have it locked up if they
ReplyDeletehave children in the house.
This is bull. Some women even have issues pulling the trigger on this type of weapon. No way a four year old could do it. It was the crackhead.
ReplyDeleteWBI is made up of County, local, and MSP members.
ReplyDelete1. something just sounds fishy
ReplyDelete2. gun was not legal
Hopefully the 7 year old sibling has been removed from the home for foster care...
ReplyDeleteHow could they possibly know the father was in the kitchen cooking crack at the time? Once again, the local gossip blog pumps out crap and misinformation.
ReplyDeleteTime to raise the property tax in Hebron.
ReplyDeleteIn shootings that deal with small children the gun is usually point i at the chest or head b/c the children don't have enough strength in there pointer finger to pull the trigger so they use both thumbs and push the butt of the gun against something hard. Children will use there body weight and thumb strength to pull the trigger.
ReplyDeleteWBI is a joke i wish the county would look into how much the county is paying the deputies to work for MSP and work their {MSP} cases the sheriff should pull his deputies out of WBI and that goofiness Sgt. he has for the sheriff's dept is a goof and looks downsy he needs to go back to cutting grass
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out how the mom got shot 3 TIMES and them woke up to find the kid shot himself in the chest. Does not sound right.
ReplyDeleteSo he was playing in another room and she was sleeping?
ReplyDeleteHow does ONE bullet kill the child then go on to injure the mother in her hand, her arm, and her shoulder?
ReplyDeleteIt makes no sense. I could see going through the hand and lodging in her shoulder had her hand been in the shoulder area but not the arm.
yea, how did mom not wake up with the first shot? probably cuz she was passed out on drugs. i hope the dad's in jail, mom ends up there and the 7 year old is placed in a safe, drug free environment. that poor baby, so sad :(
ReplyDeleteThis 'mother of the year' Shaniece Kellam (sometimes goes by Shaniece Showell) was charged with an indentity theft scheme in DE about a year ago. Anything she says I would take with a grain of salt.
ReplyDeleteAnd this child is in th School system. This is exactly why children are failing. It is not the fault of the schools. No matter how little we spend we cant raise the children.
ReplyDeleteI think it pretty sad everyone on here bashing these people who just lost their son, weather or not they were in the right or wrong, cooking crack....thats funny. Witnesses saying the kid was playing with the gun before,, nobody reported this. I think no matter how much of a crack head u r seeing your child with a hole in his chest is something that will haunt them forever. Justice will. Be served, you all just need to kiss your kids and worry about ur children, people saying put the other child in foster care, whos feeling are we considering, maybe there is another family member that could take the kid, no everyone wants to jump into doing the worse possible. The mom is in the hospital right now . Shut up and get a life, it is very possible the child shot himself. Stranger things have happened
ReplyDeleteAll of this shooting and killing is killing me. My heart is breaking for all these people that are the results of years of no prayers in school and no morals of all these people having children they really don't want. If they did they'd live better lives.
ReplyDeletePeople! Hush up with the comments and accusations and just be glad your child is alive and well, if you are that fortunate. I am not saying that nobody is at fault here, but let the police do their job and just cut out these stupid comments and say a prayer for the family. What is this world coming to when commenters are more concerned with bashing the family than mourning over the lost life of a child? Jamal, rest in peace, sweet boy...
ReplyDeleteFirst, it was one shot. One bullet. Through the boy, through the wall, into the mother. Second, apparently the baby daddy was cooking crack. The parents created a dangerous environment for the kids. Is any of this so hard to believe? Sad. But I also have a problem with the fact that MSP contributes a Det. Sergeant to WBI and still the State Police call their own criminal division to investigate major crimes. The Sheriff has control over that. HE is the one who permits it. HE could have said "We'll handle it" and the state police has no choice but to stand down. It looks like the Sheriff has no faith in his own multi-jurisdictional criminal division. That has to make his people feel good. Nice job 200. No wonder they are all looking for another place to work.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute!! The Detective Sergeant is a state trooper? Now I get it. He is in the drop program and has to retire soon. that is why he is trying to line up the captains job at the Salisbury Police Department. But if the Sheriff doesn't trust him to handle major crimes in the county how can Chief Duncan trust him to lead her criminal investigation team? Maybe the Sheriff and Chief Duncan should dissolve their criminal investigation units and put the detectives back on the road. Call the State Police Criminal Investigation team and let the patrol divisions have more people on the road to handle community policing.
ReplyDelete8:00 and 8:57 - This kind of ignorant thinking amazes me. If there is a sensible family member that can take the sibling, then where was that person the first time this poor boy played with a gun, and where was that person while the parents were getting high? The only people I feel sorry for are the children - the one who lost his life and the other who will live with the memory of that and whatever else she has seen in her young life. And I do thank God for every moment I have with my children, but they are alive tonight because I take care of them - this was a tragic, preventable death - these parents are to blame!
ReplyDeleteThe mom is sound asleep in her bedroom at or before 9:30, the dad just arrived home/ is cooking crack in the kitchen.... But the kids, who's watching the kids?! Nobody!! This is sickening, I still find it hard to believe a 4 year old could shoot himself in the chest, but even if that's true the parents have to be held accountable for this!
ReplyDeleteMSP's own press release states the mother was shot though the arm, shoulder and hand. Makes zero sense.
ReplyDeleteOh and a witness told of the child playing with the gun previously. Sounds like someone trying to make a case for the child shooting himself theory to sound more believable.
Jus so I love my kids to death n would never put them n Any harm if they knew better they do better story jus don't add up but if he was seen playn wit it before them maybe he know how to use it I jus feel sorry for da family a lil child who didn't get to experience life gone so soon my prayers r with da family sad tragedy dat happened n could of been stopped if da gun was n a safeplace prayn for her recovery n prayn also for.da lost of lil Jamal RIP.........
ReplyDelete10:31, I never said the parents aren't to blame. I was simply trying to enforce the fact that people shouldn't be trying to solve the case on here with all the stupid comments. They should be mourning over the death of a child. How does everyone know that the parents were high? Were you all there in the house? Let the police do their job!
ReplyDeleteWOW. You people are the reason there are so many rumors. Why dont you just leave the investigating to the professionals, no matter what agency they are from. They are trained and have seen more cases like this than any of you I'm sure. What incentive do they (police) have to cover up anything. Think about it people, nothing in these cases are impossible, maybe hard to believe, but not impossible. Leave the investigating to the police. Who cares what you think if a 4 year old couldn't pull the trigger or not, its possible and if that is what was determined so be it. The bottom line is here that there was obvious carelessness on behalf of the parents and a child was killed because of it. Stop your ghossip and rumor spreading. I trust the police will do all they can to bring who is responsible to justice. What everyone should be focusing on is what out JUDICIAL system or lack there of will do during the trial and guilty finding. Maybe, if found guilty, the parents will be sentenced to a weekend in jail if we are lucky or some type of useless treatment program. Why dont you people look into the sentencing our judges put out for crimes. The police get these low lifes to court just to have judges let them walk. The judical syatem is the broken link here not the police and prosecuters. Not to mention the liberal Juries we seem to get these days.
ReplyDelete"What incentive do they (police) have to cover up anything."
ReplyDeleteI used to agree with you 10:39 but now since so much politics are involved in policing, I'm not so sure.
Word is O'malley may be seeking higher national office.
Would he be above putting out the word to the MSP Big Wig (political appoinmentment of his) to keep MD crime stats down under his watch?
I think there is alot of pressure on LE esp state police agencies who answer directly to governors to have a good closure rate as well.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine that this is good because it could lead to crimes only being "half solved" and some perpetrators of crimes not being held accountable or fully accoutable and not really justice for victims.
Did anyone know this child brought a kitchen knife to school for a little show and tell? Yes the child was sweet, but obviously if he could sneek a knife into pre-k he could have easily brought a gun that wasn't under lock and key anymore than kitchen utensils are. If that would have happened then would we have been able to kiss our own children that we DO keep an eye on goodnight? No I think not. Social services has dropped the ball on this case by not getting involved when the child was first seen playing with the gun. The school dropped the ball by not doing anything about the child bringing the knife to school. Sweet kids can still do bad things when they have bad parents raising them.
