Happy Timers Group Celebrates 50 Years

Salisbury, MD – The Happy Timers, a Wicomico Recreation program for adults 50+, celebrated their 50th Anniversary today (March 5, 2012). A crowd of over 150 gathered in the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center’s Midway Room to celebrate the special occasion.

The Happy Timers program is the oldest of its kind in the state of Maryland. In recognition of this feat the program received several honors from both State and local officials. The presentations began with a reading of a resolution from the Maryland House of Delegates. Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. was in attendance to present his own citation. Wicomico County Council President Joe Holloway, Past-President Gail Bartkovich and Councilman Bob Culver spoke on behalf of the County Council. Salisbury City Council President Terry Cohen, representing the City of Salisbury and Mayor Ireton proudly declared March 5, 2012 the ‘Happy Timers Day’ within the City of Salisbury.

Several individual Happy Timers also received special recognition today for their long-time membership in the organization. Those recognized were:

Mary Jane Parsons – 30 Years
Flo Evans - 28 Years
Etta Nottingham - 28 Years
Dot Ennis – 25 Years
Becky Dryden – 23 Years
Lois Ann Bradley - 22 Years
Ruth Lamond – 22 years
Nancy Pollitt - 20 Years
Doris White – 20 Years
