STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION DATA RELEASED TODAY
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 6, 2010) – Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today following the release of positive data released today by the Maryland Department of Education, which show a rise in Maryland’s graduation rate and a decline in drop outs among high school students:
“I want to congratulate the students, parents, and educators in Maryland for another year of graduation increases and declines in Maryland’s drop out rate. Despite demanding further requirements for our students to obtain a diploma, Maryland’s students showed for a second straight year, setting the bar a little higher only motivated them more and did not serve as an impediment to graduating.
“Maryland’s public schools remain number one in the nation not by chance, but by choice – by the tough choices we’ve made together, as One Maryland, to make record investments in our schools even in tough times. Together, we’re building state-of-the-art classrooms, integrating our curricula across the board, and preparing our students for higher education and the jobs of tomorrow right here in Maryland.”
Maryland’s graduation rate improved from 85.2 percent in 2009 to 86.6 percent this year. The dropout rate for Maryland high school seniors fell 0.3 percent from 2009 and more than a full percentage point since 2008, when it stood at 3.4 percent.
Graduation rates improved for all racial subgroups. Hispanic graduates led the way, jumping more than two points, followed by the rate by African American students, which increased just less than two points.

Minority Hopefuls Add Color To Monochrome GOP
Republicans are poised to add a splash of color to the ranks of its officeholders in November's elections, challenging the notion that the party is a de facto white guys' club.
The slate of GOP minority candidates on the ballot this fall includes Hispanics, blacks and Vietnamese-Americans, running strongly in competitive races from Miami Beach to the Denver suburbs to Southern California.
Tim Scott, a black Republican, is rated a near-certain bet to win a House seat in South Carolina, while Marco Rubio leads the race for Florida's open Senate seat. Two Hispanic Republicans lead in the polls for governor in Nevada and New Mexico, and Indian-American Nikki Haley is poised to win the governorship in South Carolina.
Two other black Republican House candidates are in tight races to unseat Democratic incumbents.
"Our recruitment process is colorblind, but Republicans are fortunate to have a diverse group of candidates that is offering solutions to the job-killing agenda that Democrats have pursued in Washington over the last two years," said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The list of minority GOP candidates this year is bigger than in recent years, though Democrats have historically had far more success recruiting minority candidates and attracting minority support - a point driven home by Barack Obama's historic presidential victory in 2008.
While Democrats point with pride to their diversity and level of minority political support, a small number of those members have caused the party big headaches.More details here

Report: Taliban Chiefs Enter Secret Talks With Government To End War
Sources say that for the first time negotiators authorized to speak for Quetta Shura
Secret talks to end the war in Afghanistan have begun between representatives of the Taliban and the government of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, The Washington Post reported on its website Tuesday night.
Afghan and Arab sources cited by the Post said they believe for the first time that Taliban representatives are fully authorized to speak for the Quetta Shura, the Afghan Taliban organization based in Pakistan, and its leader, Mohammad Omar, according to the newspaper. The sources requested anonymity to discuss the development.
Omar's representatives have shunned negotiations in the past, insisting that all foreign troops withdraw first.

AP-GfK Poll: Working-Class Whites Shun Dems
Desperate for jobs and cool toward President Barack Obama, working-class whites are flocking to Republicans, turning a group long wary of Democrats into an even bigger impediment to the party's drive to keep control of Congress.
An Associated Press-GfK poll shows whites without four-year college degrees preferring GOP candidates by twice the margin of the last two elections, when Democrats made significant gains in the House and Senate. The poll, conducted last month, found this group favoring GOP hopefuls 58 percent to 36 percent — a whopping 22 percentage-point gap.
In 2008, when Obama won the presidency, they favored GOP congressional candidates by 11 percentage points, according to exit polls of voters. When Democrats won the House and Senate in 2006, the Republican edge was 9 percentage points.More

Obama Use Of Foe's Tax Records Reviewed
A federal inspector general is looking into whether the Obama administration used confidential taxpayer information in an effort to attack a political opponent, Koch Industries.
The review was revealed Tuesday by Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, two weeks after he and a handful of other top Senate Republicans called for the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax issues to look into the matter, saying either administration officials had illegal access to taxpayer information or were inappropriately speculating in public about the company's tax status.
Charles and David Koch, brothers who control the Kansas-based company, are libertarians who have used some of their wealth to fund conservative groups and causes that oppose much of President Obama's agenda. Mr. Obama has singled out the company for criticism in speeches.
In an Aug. 27 briefing with some reporters on calls to restructure the corporate tax code, an unidentified administration official cited Koch Industries, a major privately held energy company, by name, and then seemed to indicate that the company didn't pay any corporate income tax, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"In this country, we have partnerships, we have [S corporations], we have [limited-liability companies], we have a series of entities that do not pay corporate income tax," said the senior administration official, according to press reports. "Some of which are really giant firms - you know, Koch Industries is a multibillion-dollar business."
The Weekly Standard, which first questioned whether the comments crossed a legal line, has reported that the unidentified administration official "appears to have been" Austan Goolsbee, named last month as chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.
A White House official said Tuesday that the administration will not use the Koch example in the future, but that the comment was "not based on any review of tax filings." Other White House officials have told reporters that the information was publicly available, including in testimony to the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board and on Koch's website.
But an attorney for Koch said in a statement last month that the company does pay corporate income taxes and that information about its structure and tax liability are not publicly available.

More Mobile Speed Cameras Going Up
WASHINGTON - A group of new mobile speed cameras could be in place on local highways as early as Wednesday.
The mobile cameras will be set up in various work zones in Prince George's, Frederick and Baltimore counties.
The cameras are part of the Maryland State Highway Administration's SafeZones program, which targets work zones.
The administration says on average, 12 people are killed and nearly 1,500 people are injured in crashes in Maryland work zones. More than 118,500 citations have been issued since the end of August.
The mobile speed cameras will be placed in Frederick County on southbound U.S. 15, just north of the Hayward Road intersection.
You'll see speed trailers display your speed before you get to the camera location. The speed limit in those zones will be 45 mph.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore officials are crowing about a recent experiment that drastically reduced the ammonia level in chicken houses. But the $1.7 million experiment is about more than reducing the stench of toxic fumes. It’s about saving the Delmarva poultry industry.
“If we on Delmarva don’t solve this problem, we won’t have an industry,” Jeannine Harter-Dennis, a UMES poultry scientist, said of chicken litter.
“We won’t be able to meet federal government standards, and the poultry industry will go elsewhere,”
Harter-Dennis said, referring to states like Arkansas, the number one poultry producer in the country, where labor costs are cheaper.

Biden Says He'll 'Strangle' Republicans
DAYTON, Minn. -- Vice President Joe Biden has told Democrats at a Minnesota fundraiser that he'll "strangle" members of the GOP who complain about the federal budget.
According to a pool report from Tuesday's event in Dayton, Biden was telling the crowd that Democrats know how to balance the budget. He said, "If I hear one more Republican tell me about balancing the budget, I am going to strangle them."
He quickly added: "To the press, that's a figure of speech."
Biden joined former Vice President Walter Mondale at the fundraiser for 350 people paying at least $150.

Westboro Baptist Church To Defend Military Funeral Protests Before High Court
For parishioners of the Westboro Baptist Church, Wednesday's case at the Supreme Court is more than an hour of legal debate over the constitutionality of military funeral protests; it will also mark the end of their "I-70 GodSmack Tour" of protests across the country.
The group's last picket before they arrive at the court is scheduled to happen earlier in the morning at Arlington National Cemetery.
For many, the idea of protesting at any funeral -- let alone one for a member of the military -- is abhorrent, yet members of the Westboro Church proudly boast of having held more than 44,000 pickets at funerals and other events. They also strongly defend their First Amendment right to protest.
"This case is about a little church in Topeka, Kansas, engaging in public speech on a public right-of-way, about issues of vital public interest and importance," lawyer Margie Phelps wrote to the court defending the protests. She is also the daughter of church founder Fred Phelps and will argue the case before the justices.

N.J. Gov. Chris Christie Endorses Bob Ehrlich
New Jersey Gov. and GOP superstar Chris Christie is joining former Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich on the campaign trail this week, bringing what Ehrlich hopes will be a major boost to his effort to unseat Gov. Martin O'Malley.
Christie's brash, no-nonsense governing style has caught national attention since he won the governorship in 2009. His endorsement comes at a critical time in the Maryland governor's race, campaign analysts say. Recent polls show Ehrlich slipping slightly behind O'Malley in a state that is heavily Democratic.
"[Christie] is a huge star," said GOP strategist and former Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant. "His proposals to reform government in New Jersey is the type of leadership voters want to see everywhere. That's why he is in big demand across the country this fall."
Christie defeated Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine last year and inherited an $11 billion deficit, as well as one of the nation's most underfunded pension systems.
Since taking office, Christie has identified more than $2 billion in unspent funds, forced schoolteachers to pay for their health care benefits and slashed state spending by $3 billion without raising taxes.
"It's not unlike what the next governor of Maryland will face," said James Gimpel, a politics professor at the University of Maryland. He said Christie's governing style can "appear brash," but "there's a real truth to it" that will appeal to some Marylanders who feel fatigued by taxes and big government.More details

GOP Eyes Potential Defectors
House Republicans are already examining which Democrats might want to switch parties after Nov. 2 and are mapping out a strategy for how to persuade them to make the leap.
Republican aides and lobbyists said there are a handful of Democratic Members whom GOP leaders plan to target, with Member-to-Member conversations beginning immediately after the midterm elections. Incentives for switching sides could include a leadership-level position or seat on a powerful committee such as Appropriations or Ways and Means.
“You are looking for someone who has been there three, four or five terms who has a shot at going up the ladder,” said John Feehery, a GOP strategist who served as communications director to former Speaker Dennis Hastert. “One who is enticed by a committee chairmanship or one who their districts are so terribly bad that voting for Pelosi would be the end of them.”
Democratic Reps. Dan Boren (Okla.), Walt Minnick (Idaho) and Heath Shuler (N.C.) are all on the Republicans’ target list. Reps. Mike McIntyre (N.C.) and Gene Taylor (Miss.) are also considered potential gets.
House Democrats, meanwhile, are working on a counterstrategy to try to thwart any GOP poaching, and they are even eyeing a few Republicans they think might be willing to join their ranks. “There are certainly contingency plans being put in place if in fact the ratio is two or three [lawmakers] in different directions,” a former Democratic leadership aide said.

American Express Sued By Antitrust Division For Unfair Merchant Rules
The Justice Department filed an antitrust lawsuit against American Express (AXP) Monday, alleging that the financial institution has been engaging in anti-competitive practices. In the same statement, the Justice Department said it reached a proposed settlement with Visa (V) and MasterCard (MA) over similar charges.
The credit card companies were charged with enforcing rules that prevented merchants from offering consumer discounts, rewards or information about card costs, the Justice Department said in statement. The companies also boost the cost of business by prohibiting merchants from encouraging customers to use credit cards that cost them less to accept, said the Justice Department, which was joined in the complaint by seven states, including Texas, Ohio and Maryland.
At issue is the dominance of Visa, MasterCard and Amex among U.S. credit card companies, which pull in about $35 billion a year in so-called "swipe fees," which are charged to U.S. merchants each time one of their customers uses a credit card. Amex's swipe fees are the industry's highest, according to the Justice Department.
"These restrictive rules restrain competition among credit card networks for merchant acceptance and distort the competitive process," said Christine Varney, assistant attorney general in charge of the Justice Department's antitrust division, in the statement.
Under the proposed settlement with Visa and MasterCard, merchants will be allowed to offer discounts to customers who use credit cards with lower swipe fees, disclose certain credit card preferences and inform customers about the different swipe fees, according to the Justice Department.
American Express said in a statement Monday that it has no intention of settling.More

ABC Sanitizes Left Wing Rally, Excludes Communist And Socialist Signs
Good Morning America on Sunday recapped the liberal One Nation rally held on the nation's capital, Saturday, but skipped any mention of the socialist and Communist themed signs seen during the march.
These are some of the signs that were featured during reporter Tahman Bradley's segment: ""Peace, justice, equality, hope, change," "Fair trade, not free trade," "Educate every child," "Full and fair employment" and "Silence GOP lies." However, signs with the Communist Party USA logo, posters reading "Capitalism is failing, socialism is the alternative" and "Build a socialist alternative" were not.[Pictures can be found here. Video, here.]
Individuals with books such as the Communist Manifesto and The Jewish Question were also avoided. Interestingly, on Saturday, GMA's Deborah Roberts actually asked Ben Jealous of the NAACP about communist infiltration of the rally: "Now, Glenn Beck has said to some of his viewers and listeners on the radio, that among your organizers are Communist Party members and the New York City Democratic Socialists of America. What do you say to that?"
Roberts also had no follow up to Jealous' odd answer: "This is a big tent...You'll see Jews, Christians and Muslims. You'll see black, brown, Asians. You'll see everybody here from both parties who believe that tax cuts for the richest one percent at this time is crazy."
People from both parties attended the rally? Were they socialist Republicans?

Health Care Groups To Congress: De-Fund Medicare Chief Who Advocated Rationing
A coalition of health care groups is urging Congress to withhold money for implementing the new health care law as a means of forcing the controversial new Medicare chief – who bypassed the Senate confirmation process through a recess appointment – to at least answer questions from members of the coalition.
Marking three months since President Barack Obama recess-appointed Dr. Donald Berwick to be administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), six groups sent a letter to members of Congress about Berwick, who has openly advocated the rationing of health care and argued that “humane” health care funding “must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and less fortunate.”
“On this three month anniversary of the Obama administration’s arrogance in recess appointing Berwick and preventing him from appearing before Congress, lawmakers should commit to withholding the funding for his office to implement ObamaCare, effectively tying his hands until he provides the proper transparency that the American people deserve,” the letter said.
The letter, to be delivered to Congress on Wednesday, was signed by Alex Cortes, chairman of DeFundIt.org; Jim Martin, chairman of 60 Plus; Dan Weber, founder of the Association of Mature American Citizens; Stuart Barton, president of American Seniors Association; Mike Needham, chief executive officer of Heritage Action; and Dr. Adam Dorin, founder of Physicians Against ObamaCare.More details

Campaign Watchdogs Want IRS To Probe Rove's American Crossroads
Two campaign finance watchdogs have asked the IRS to investigate a conservative group backed by Karl Rove.
Democracy 21 and the Campaign Legal Center argue Crossroads GPS, a conservative group spending heavily in this year's campaign races, is violating tax laws meant to limit political activity by nonprofit groups.
In a letter to the IRS, the groups said Crossroads GPS and its sister group American Crossroads are using their tax-exempt status to improperly keep donor lists private.
"In our view, Crossroads GPS is a classic example of a 501(c)(4) organization that is impermissibly using its tax status to spend tens of millions of dollars in the 2010 congressional races while hiding the donors funding these expenditures from the American people," Democracy 21 President Fred Wertheimer said. "The IRS cannot sit idly by and ignore what is going on without enormous damaging consequences to the interests of the American people and to the integrity and credibility of the tax laws."
Crossroads GPS was established in part by Rove, President George W. Bush's main political strategist and adviser, and Ed Gillespie, another Bush adviser and former head of the Republican National Committee.
Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, said that both organizations follow the law and attacked the campaign finance groups for being hypocritical.
"Crossroads GPS carefully follows all laws governing 501(c)(4) organizations," he said. "This is a baseless complaint, filed by a partisan group that files baseless complaints for its living. Liberal groups spent more than $400 million in undisclosed campaign money in 2008 alone, with nary a peep from liberal lobbyist Fred Wertheimer or any of his groups."More
Democracy 21 and the Campaign Legal Center argue Crossroads GPS, a conservative group spending heavily in this year's campaign races, is violating tax laws meant to limit political activity by nonprofit groups.

Frustrated House Still Waiting For Senate Action On 420 Bills
The House ran another legislative lap around the Senate in September, widening the gap in the number of bills the chambers have passed this Congress to more than 400.
With only a lame-duck session remaining, the House since January 2009 has passed 420 bills that have sat on the Senate shelf, according to an updated list provided to The Hill.
The gulf in productivity has led to an escalation in tensions between the chambers, culminating in a veritable staring contest last month over the expiring George W. Bush-era tax cuts.
House Democratic leaders have frequently griped at the disparity, and the caucus chairman, Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), told The Hill last week that the slow pace of legislating in the Senate, where bills can be held up by the filibuster and other rules, “infuriates” members of the House.
Rank-and-file House Democrats said the lack of Senate action on legislation they had cast tough votes on had left them twisting in the wind before an increasingly agitated electorate. At the top of the list was the June 2009 cap-and-trade energy and climate bill, which passed the House by a slim margin but never made it to the Senate floor.
The gap in approved legislation increased by 48 in the three weeks Congress was in session in September, and by 130 since The Hill first reported on the disparity in February.
Among the House-passed bills from the most recent period still awaiting action in the Senate are measures to audit the claims fund set up by BP after the Gulf oil spill and legislation to increase screening for diabetes. The Senate has also yet to sign off on naming post offices for George C. Marshall, the late actor Jimmy Stewart and the civil rights leader Dorothy Height.

Iran May Retaliate For Apparent Cyber Attack
Iran has limited capacity to retaliate in kind to an apparent cyber attack that infected computers at its sole nuclear power plant, analysts say, but some worry it could seek to hit back by other means.
Security experts say they believe the release of the Stuxnet computer worm may have been a state-backed attack on Iran's nuclear program, most likely originating in the United States or Israel. But they say the truth may never be known.
Little information is available on how much damage, if any, Iran's nuclear and wider infrastructure has suffered from Stuxnet -- and Tehran will probably never share the full details. Officials said on Sunday the worm had hit staff computers at the Bushehr nuclear power plant but had not affected major systems there.
Some analysts believe Iran may be suffering wider sabotage aimed at slowing down its nuclear ambitions, and point to unexplained technical problems that have cut the number of working centrifuges in its uranium enrichment programme.
In the short term, intelligence experts believe Tehran's priority will be trying to identify the source of the attack and examining how the worm was uploaded onto its systems. "The Iranian internal security and counterintelligence departments will need to nail down the culprits first, then work out how to turn the tables," said Fred Burton, a former U.S. counterintelligence expert who is now vice president of political risk consultancy Stratfor.
But finding reliable evidence identifying which country or group was responsible might well prove impossible, increasing the probability of a more unofficial and deniable reaction.More

Iran Admits It Could Pull Nuke Trigger On US, Israel
For the first time since the expansion of Iran’s nuclear program was exposed in 2002, the Iranian government is dropping the pretense that it is developing nuclear technology purely for peaceful purposes. Iran has developed nuclear war plans to deter U.S. and Israeli aggression and retaliate against it, a top adviser to Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi announced in a strategic analysis.
Defense Ministry analyst Alireza Saeidabadi’s detailed analysis, published last week on a website that Iran’s intelligence ministry runs, examines several scenarios in which Iran could become embroiled in a shooting war with the United States or Israel.
One of the scenarios Iranian military planners must consider is a strategic nuclear U.S. strike on Iran, he writes. If that occurred, Iranian planning documents call for attacks against U.S. interests “on the world stage,” his analysis says.
The Iranian military should “prioritize its air force and ballistic missile fleet” in dealing with a conventional attack from Israel, Saeidabadi writes.
But in the event Israel uses unconventional weapons against Iran, “then Iran should employ a nuclear strategy.”More here

CNN Proves Rick Sanchez's Point
Jews are the first to holler when they suffer discrimination; but let someone say they discriminated against him, and he's fired. Tolerance is reserved for elite Jews and their causes. Everyone else is a bigot.
Jews run the US media and control perception. When Rick Sanchez said so, he was fired. Point made.
Rick Sanchez didn't understand that his role was to obscure this fact. He was Latino window dressing. He was the gentile front man. The shabbos goy.
His role was to keep the Left-Right puppet show going. But he committed the cardinal sin. He pointed to the Illuminati Jewish puppeteer.
He was sore that CNN was replacing him with "Parker-Spitzer." He was sore for being treated like the token Latino. He was sore that CNN wouldn't take him seriously and that the Jewish comedian Jon (Leibowitz) Stewart ridiculed his ambitions to be a serious commentator.
On Pete Dominick's talk show Friday, Sanchez said they were prejudiced. When Dominick suggested that Stewart is also a minority, Sanchez scoffed at the notion that Jews are persecuted and implied that they control CNN and other networks.
"Yeah, very powerless people. [laughs] He's such a minority. I mean, you know, please. What, are you kidding? I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart. And to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority?"

Jobs At Ocean Downs?
Hey Joe,
Please look at the above link. My husband and I are residents of Worcester Cty. and unemployed. We were looking forward to Ocean Downs job opportunities. According to this link Delaware Park must not think that the people of Worcester Cty. need jobs or maybe we are not intelligent enough since they are recruiting from Connecticut.
Planting A Tree? Maryland Program Makes It $25 Cheaper
"Forests are our most strategically important natural resource. Trees protect water quality, clean our air and provide wildlife habitat. One large tree can eliminate 5,000 gallons of stormwater runoff each year, and well placed trees can help reduce energy costs by 15 to 35 percent.
Trees also enhance our quality of life, beautifying neighborhoods and highways, providing sound barriers and shade, and helping increase property values.
Today the State of Maryland is partnering with businesses, communities and citizens like you to help fund and plant new tree cover. Our State agencies are working to plant 1 million new trees by 2011, and were asking private citizens to join us by planting 50,000 trees by 2010.
Explore this website for advice on where, how and what type of trees to plant, and discount coupons made possible through environmental mitigation fines and participating vendors -- for your tree purchases. Then, come back and register the trees youve planted, site them on our interactive map and calculate their benefits to you and our planet!
Working together as One Maryland, we can not only preserve our remaining tree cover but grow new trees to create a smarter, greener State for our planet and for future generations."

Taxes: Who Can You Trust?
When it comes to taxes, who should you trust - Harris or Kratovil? Professional interviewers tell us that when selecting the best candidate to hire, "past behavior" is the best predictor of "future behavior", In other words, don't listen to what candidates "say", look at what they've actually "done", The same is true for others - especially pollticians.
Therefore, when it comes to taxes, stop listening to what politicians "say", and check their record - what they've "done". This provides a pretty accurate forecast of what to expect in the future.
I suggest voters should ignore what Kratovil is saying about Andy Harris' supposed national sales tax! lnstead examine Harris'past voting record on taxes.
What has been the trend? What has Harris "done"?
Voters will find that when taking office as Maryland State Senator, Andy Harris signed a pledge not to raise taxes. And what has he done? ln the 12 years he has been in office, Andy Harris, has never once voted for a single tax increase.
He's stuck to his word!
However, it seems Kratovil has never met a tax increase he didn't like. He has voted lockstep with PelosifReid, tax-and-spend liberals, 85% of the time. In fact, most recently he voted for the Pelosi/Reid cap and trade enerqy tax which, according to lhe Wall Street Journal, is the sinqle larqest tax increase in our Country's history.
So, now you be the judge. Who can you trust with your taxes?
Harris has my vote. How about yours?

Bobby Brittingham For Sheriff, Moving Forward!
Justice for Our Children,
Dead Beat Parents
No one denies that being a parent is a incredibly challenging, time consuming, learn as you go, amazing experience. But in today’s times, parents face even more additional challenges then what was foreseen fifty years ago, the Deadbeat Parent. With so many non-traditional family units in America, many single parents are facing the continuous problem for the lack of financial support (child support) from the absent partner.
As of today there are about 700,000 families in America that do not receive financial support from an absent parent (http://deadbeatdad/. us). This number is astronomically large, especially in this economy. A single parent has so many challenges outside of finances why add one more stressors that is out of their control.
Statistically, children with single parents are “32 times more likely to run away, 20 times more likely to end up in prison, 20 times more likely to have behavioral disorder, 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances, 9 times more likely to drop out of school.”(http://deadbeatdad/. us) In order to help prevent these statistics I want to arm such families with the best chances possible by helping them find delinquent child support. This is just a small way to help thousands of families that struggle daily to make ends meat and these struggles do not stop with Mothers but also single Fathers.
If elected I want to work with the Worcester County Department of Child Enforcement to help them track down and hold accountable those that have warrants for their arrest for outstanding unpaid court ordered child support. There are presently 961 active child support warrants with-in the sheriff’s office that haave not been served. I promise to dedicate a section on the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office website to this cause, and to actively enforce service of these warrants currently held by the Sheriff’s office.
.
On our webpage we will place photographs of those fugitive offenders who have active warrants, along with any other additional identifying information that would help the public to locate them and bring them to justice. I want to work more closely with the Department of Child Enforcement to help ease the finical burdens of the victims of back owed child support. Bobby Brittingham for Sheriff, Moving Forward!
O’Malley’s Latest Gamble: Making Stuff Up About Slots
Not content making stuff up about electricity rates or covering stuff up about Maryland’s faltering economy, Martin O’Malley is now misleading Marylanders about his failed slots machine legacy. Every dishonest attack ad he runs this campaign is another attempt to cover up his record of rising job losses, record tax increases, and ballooning debt. Here are the real facts about slot machines in Maryland.
· For twenty years, Bob Ehrlich advocated for slot machines at Maryland race tracks. He believes deeply that a strong slots program is vital to rescuing Maryland’s storied horse racing industry and helping the State meet its commitment to fully fund public schools.
· During Bob Ehrlich’s tenure as Governor, the Maryland General Assembly insisted that slots legislation include non-racetrack locations. To reach bipartisan compromise, Bob Ehrlich agreed to put aside his “slots at tracks” preference and accept slots at non-track locations. Still, the legislature didn’t pass a slots bill.
· Martin O’Malley in 2007 passed legislation that made Arundel Mills Mall an eligible location for slots. You can read the legislation by clicking here. The citizens of Maryland and Anne Arundel County approved this plan by referendum on Election Day in November 2008.
· The legislation allowing slots at Arundel Mills Mall was conceived by Martin O’Malley, drafted by Martin O’Malley, signed by Martin O’Malley, and implemented by Martin O’Malley.
· Two years later, 4 out of 5 of Martin O’Malley’s slots venues remain dormant, while Marylanders continue spend money and build schools in West Virginia and Delaware. The O’Malley plan is an unmitigated disaster. Now, O’Malley is flip-flopping his position on slots in Anne Arundel County. The (Baltimore) Sun has denounced O’Malley, saying he “smacks of political opportunism” and “fiscal recklessness.”
· To demonstrate how poorly the O’Malley Administration handled the implementation of slots, no proposals exist to put slots anywhere in Anne Arundel County other than Arundel Mills Mall. The proposal to put slots at Laurel Park race track was disqualified.
· Bob Ehrlich has concluded that Arundel Mills Mall is an appropriate venue for slots for three reasons: 1) The State needs immediate revenue from slots to help fund education and balance $8 billion in deficits O’Malley leaves the next Governor, 2) the O’Malley Administration has so bungled the process that no other options for the County currently exist, and 3) Maryland’s horse racing industry will still receive significant revenue from slots even if they are not at race tracks.
NEW O'MALLEY RADIO AD HIGHLIGHTS EHRLICH'S ROLE AS HIRED GUN FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS
Highlights Ehrlich lobbying firm's work for Casino Developer
Baltimore, MD (October 5, 2010) -- The O'Malley-Brown campaign released a new radio ad today focused on Bob Ehrlich's record as a hired gun for special interests. The newest radio ad highlights the work done by Ehrlich's law and lobbying firm for a casino developer to put a casino at a family-friendly shopping mall in a residential community.
Since Bob Ehrlich was fired as governor in 2006 he's earned $2.5 million representing special interests like casino developers at his Baltimore-based firm.
Since Bob Ehrlich was fired as governor in 2006 he's earned $2.5 million representing special interests like casino developers at his Baltimore-based firm.
"This ad is about who Bob Ehrlich is really working for, and the fact that he is not on the side of Maryland families," said Rick Abbruzzese, O'Malley-Brown Deputy Campaign Manager. "Especially in these tough economic times, Marylanders need a governor on their side, representing their interests and allowing their voices to be heard."
While in office, Bob Ehrlich vetoed an increase in the minimum wage, cut funding for public education, and jacked up college tuition by 40%. In contrast, Governor O'Malley has made historic investments in public education, has fought to make college more affordable, and has made the tough decisions to put Maryland's working families first.
The ad will run in the Baltimore market beginning today. The full text of the ad is available below.

Biggest Banks Ensnared AAs Foreclosure Paperwork Problem Broadens
Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and others have joined GMAC and JPMorgan under the microscope as bank regulators order major servicers to review their foreclosure procedures for robo-signing and flawed documents.
Three of the nation’s largest mortgage servicers have halted foreclosures as scrutiny increases over whether they verify the required paperwork [1]. Several other servicers have also been faulted for foreclosure affidavits that were signed without much authentication, but they have not yet halted foreclosures.
Last week, we noted that the discovery of “robo-signers” [2] — employees who signed off on thousands of foreclosure documents without much, if any, knowledge of their accuracy — had caused Ally Financial’s GMAC mortgage unit to freeze foreclosures in 23 states where foreclosures require a court order.

Bands Will Take The Field Saturday, Oct. 16 For The 2010 Delmarvacade Of Bands
Lights. Music. Marching. One of the most exciting and uplifting nights of the marching band season is coming up Saturday, Oct. 16, when Parkside High School and the Parkside Band Boosters present the 2010 Delmarvacade of Bands at Wicomico County Stadium.
High school marching bands from throughout the region will fill Wicomico County Stadium that night with the exciting sights and sounds of their field show as bands tune up for the impending championship events.
Between bands, parents, and spectators, the Delmarvacade is expected to draw thousands of people to the stadium. Bands will compete starting at 6:30 p.m., with each band performing the kind of field show people are accustomed to seeing at halftime of football games. Each performance will last seven to 12 minutes, and a new band will take the field about every 15 minutes.
The event is sponsored by Parkside High School and its Band Boosters. It will be adjudicated by professional judges of the National Judges Association. Bands will be judged on every aspect of their field show, including both musical and visual elements, individual and group elements, as well as the overall general effect of the show. Each band will receive a score based on a 100-point scale, and a trophy.
Bands will compete in four categories, depending on the number of instrumentalists in the band. Parkside High and Wicomico High School are in Group 2 although Parkside, as host, will perform in exhibition. James M. Bennett High is in Group 3. There will be an awards ceremony at the end of the night.
Marching bands often stay all evening, even after they have competed. "They support each other, even though they are rivals," says Gary Beauchamp, supervisor of fine and performing arts for Wicomico schools and the founder of the event in 1977. Students know they are competing not just against each other, but against their own previous performances, trying to make this one just a little bit better.
Admission to Delmarvacade of Bands is $5. A program detailing the participants, with a score sheet to keep track of how the bands are doing, is $5. The Parkside Band Boosters will donate $1 from each program sold to Women Supporting Women of Salisbury.
For information call Kevin Zaczkiewicz, Parkside High School band director, at (410) 677-5161.

Up with People Seeks Host Families
Cast to Perform in Salisbury Oct. 12; Host Families Needed Oct. 10-14
Families in Salisbury will have the unique opportunity to bring a bit of the world into their own homes between October 10 and 14 when an international cast of Up with People arrives in Salisbury, a stop on their 2010 world tour. The Salisbury visit of Up with People is sponsored by the Wicomico County Board of Education.
Local families in the Salisbury area are being sought now to sign up to host the cast members between Sunday, Oct. 10 and Thursday, Oct. 14. Those interested in hosting are encouraged to contact Liz Davis on the Salisbury Advance Team at ldavis@upwithpeople.org or by calling 410-677-4400 and asking for Up with People, or 505-850-3113.
Host families are being sought to keep one or more students from Cast B 2010, the 90-member Up with People cast and staff which represents 17 countries and more than 25 states. The opportunity to stay with local families during their stay in each community is a centerpiece of Up with People’s 22-week program. Those with smaller children or young teens in their home often find that the Up with People cast members are wonderful role models and provide a glimpse into other countries, cultures and traditions they might not often experience in Salisbury.
Local host families are asked to provide a bed, local transportation at the beginning and end of each day, as well as breakfast and most dinners. While gone during the day, participating in regional learning, community service and show preparation, most evenings cast members will be home with the family to participate in their activities and interests.
In addition to many wonderful experiences with their new “son” or “daughter,” each host family will receive two complimentary tickets to the Up with People Show which will be held at Wicomico High School on Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
