Fort Detrick contributed $1.7 billion to the state economy in the federal fiscal year 2008, according to a new report on the economic impact of military installations in the state.
Overall, Maryland's 17 military facilities generated $35.7 billion in economic activity and employed 3.3 percent of the state's work force.
"Mission Maryland: Measuring Economic Impact of Maryland's Military Installations" was released late last week and was presented to the Fort Detrick Alliance at its Tuesday morning breakfast.
