Reggie Mason Fails To File Financial Report
Kratovil Continues To Hide From Constituents
Where’s Frank?
Rep. Frank Kratovil continues to hide from the voters of Maryland’s First Congressional District. You would think, that in an election year, an incumbent congressman would want to get out there with the folks that will decide his or her fate in November. Not Kratovil!
Evidently, Kratovil’s experience with town hall meetings scared him pretty badly. Consequently, Kratovil has consistently ducked constituent town halls since last summer. Instead, Kratovil has used a series of tightly controlled photo-ops and press events to make constituents think that he’s out and about the district. However, if you want to ask YOUR congressman questions you are out of luck.
Kratovil’s DC office claims that all of these “events” throughout the district are open to the public and that Kratovil would answer questions there. Fair enough – EXCEPT – Kratovil’s staff doesn’t make events public until the day of the event. They even go so far as to state:
“We send these press releases out to the local media. We can’t help it if they don’t print it.”
While I find myself in a strange place defending newspapers such as Salisbury’s Daily Times, we have to ask – How can they print that Frank Kratovil will be in the area on Friday if Kratovil’s staff doesn’t send the release out until AFTER Friday’s edition is published?
In addition, why should constituents have to traipse around in a cornfield in order to ask their congressman a question? Again, Kratovil’s cracker jack staff have an answer – you can send them an email and they will respond. Sorry guys! We don’t want some canned response from Kratovil’s staff. We want to look Frank in the eye and ask him a straight question. We would then appreciate a straight answer!
It appears to me that Frank Kratovil simply doesn’t want to risk being put on the spot by his constituents. That’s a shame.

Resume:
Early Thursday morning August 19, 2010 Delaware State Police received a call about a hit and run vehicle from an accident fleeing the scene. The accident occurred on Coastal Highway and Old Landing Road Rehoboth around 2:00 a.m.
The investigation revealed that a 2007 Nissan Maxima driven by Thomas Garvey-46 of Rehoboth Beach was in the left turn lane of Coastal Highway intersecting with Old Landing Road. The second vehicle a 2004 Saturn Vue driven by Robert A. Hynes-47 of Wilmington then rear ended the Maxima.
After the crash Hynes fled the crash scene and began driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Coastal Highway. Just before Midway Outlets Hynes crossed back over to the proper lane and continued northbound. Garvey continued to follow Hynes and advised that just before the Nassau Bridge Lewes; Hynes again began to travel northbound in the southbound lane of Coastal Highway and onto the Nassau Bridge. Hynes next was observed making a u-turn at the top of Nassau Bridge and then driving southbound Coastal Highway.
Troop 7 officers eventually observe the vehicles in the area of Troop 7 and turned to pursue. When Troopers caught up to the vehicles they were turning into the Rolling Meadows Development on Windsor Court Lewes and were subsequently detained.
As a result of the Trooper’s investigation Robert A. Hynes Jr. was arrested for his 7th Offense Driving under the Influence of Alcohol after being convicted on 6 prior offenses. Hynes had convictions in 1986, 1988 (twice), 1992 (twice) and 1993.
It is believed that Garvey was paralleling Hynes who was driving in the wrong direction. (i.e.) Garvey was northbound in the northbound lane while Hynes was northbound in the southbound lane. Speed of vehicles involved is not known. No injuries were reported in this crash and Garvey not charged with any offenses.
Hynes was arrested on the above listed offenses and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institute on $51,500 secured bond.

BRIEF RESUME:
On 08-19-2010 at approximately 0953 hours, Troopers from the Salisbury Barrack were patrolling the area of Nakomis Ave, and Seminole Blvd. in Salisbury, when they were flagged down by a concerned citizen regarding a lost child that was found wandering the streets. The child is an African American and he is approximately two years of age. Attempts to locate his residence and guardian were unsuccessful. The Department of Social Services was contacted and the child was turned over to their custody.
With the assistance from numerous tips that were called in from citizens, and other investigative tactics, Troopers from the Salisbury Barrack identified the child’s residence and two women who were responsible for the welfare of the child. Troopers responded to that residence and located the below suspects who were still sleeping and had apparently not noticed that the child had left the residence.

Alexander: Obama And The Socialist Bourgeoisie
"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." --Benjamin Franklin
If there is one generalization that can be accurately asserted about Barack Hussein Obama and generations of Marxists before him, it is that they are and always have been, universally, hypocrites. They preach classist sermons to the masses, the foundational fodder upon which their failed socialist regimes are constructed, all while living lavish lifestyles characterized by elitism and overly conspicuous consumption.
This generalization holds not just for Western socialists, but also for their Soviet-era mentors, of which I am a first-hand witness.
In 1987, I stepped off an Aeroflot Tu-124 at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, grateful that the "aircraft" had made it all the way to our destination. My moment of gratitude was abruptly interrupted at the bottom of the aircraft steps by two pallid gents in off-the-rack suits who were accompanied by two humorless uniformed Militsiya regulars.
Apparently, my reputation had preceded me.
The suited fellows, representatives of the Soviet Committee for State Security, offered not so much as a simple "welcome." Rather, they insisted that I turn over my credentials and possessions, and accompany them for an "interview." We left the airport and drove to an aging gray building in central Moscow directly across from the Kremlin.
After Nearly 400 Days Of Ignoring Republican Solutions, Democrats Finally Ready To Talk
“It’s about time Democrats started talking about Fannie and Freddie,” said Chairman Price. “House Republicans have been at the table for the last 400 days with plans to end this bailout and protect taxpayers. Democrats did not even start looking for their chairs until yesterday. They have so far refused to take this issue seriously, even claiming that their so-called ‘financial reform’ law would end bailouts when in fact it does the exact opposite. Washington should never again reward reckless financial behavior with taxpayer bailouts, yet the Democrats’ notion of reform guarantees that it will.
“Democrats’ reluctance to address Fannie and Freddie is also a symptom of a larger problem – their refusal to stop spending money we do not have. Federal spending has grown to unprecedented levels under Speaker Pelosi and President Obama, even as the bailout for Fannie and Freddie grows more expensive with each passing day. We cannot afford to ignore the costs of these reckless policies any longer. Republicans are leading the way on both these issues with concrete proposals to cut bloated spending and end taxpayer bailouts for reckless financial entities.”

Statement On Rasmussen Poll Results
“After spending nearly a million dollars to spin his dismal record as governor, Martin O’Malley has dropped nine percent in the polls since January. If today’s poll tell us anything, it’s that no amount of money spent on TV can shield O’Malley from his record tax-hikes, unemployment, and budget deficits.”
Included in today’s poll:
· Bob Ehrlich’s favorable/unfavorable rating of 56 / 38 continues to remain higher than Martin O’Malley’s, 55 / 42.
· Martin O’Malley continues to struggle with his base of Democrat voters, earning the support of only 70% of Democrats.
· 41% of Marylander’s believe our economy is getting worse, not better as Martin O’Malley claims.
· Despite no ad buys, Bob Ehrlich’s message is resonating with voters while O’Malley’s lead has been completely erased.

WICOMICO COUNTY HOMEOWNERS: HOW ABOUT LOWER PROPERTY TAXES?
The credit would protect a resident homeowner against future increase in the County’s property tax due to increase in the value placed on his or her home by the tax assessor. The benefit of the tax credit can be seen by comparing the tax on homes in Salisbury that have had the credit against the City’s property tax since the credit was adopted nearly twenty years ago. Salisbury’s tax rate is now higher than the County’s rate, but the tax credit serves to reduce the City tax in many cases to a much lower amount than the County’s tax on the same home. Even with the recent reduction in assessed value, homeowners in Salisbury continue to receive significant reduction as a result of the credit that the City allows.
Twenty of Maryland’s twenty-three counties provide the Homestead tax credit, including the following counties on the Eastern Shore: Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot and Worcester. The county with the same tax revenue cap as here (Talbot) has extended the full credit to homeowners there. In the past, two members of the Wicomico County Council – Joe Holloway and Stevie Prettyman – have pushed for the Homestead Tax Credit.
Apparently the County Executive, Rick Pollitt, and the Democrat members of the Council do not support the credit. It’s time for change.
Poll: Many Incorrectly Call Obama A Muslim
WASHINGTON — Americans increasingly are convinced — incorrectly — that President Barack Obama is a Muslim, and a growing number are thoroughly confused about his religion.
Nearly one in five people, or 18 percent, said they think Obama is Muslim, up from the 11 percent who said so in March 2009, according to a poll released Thursday. The proportion who correctly say he is a Christian is down to just 34 percent.
The largest share of people, 43 percent, said they don't know his religion, an increase from the 34 percent who said that in early 2009.
The survey, conducted by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center and its affiliated Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, is based on interviews conducted before the controversy over whether Muslims should be permitted to construct a mosque near the World Trade Center site. Obama has said he believes Muslims have the right to build an Islamic center there, though he's also said he won't take a position on whether they should actually build it.
In a separate poll by Time magazine/ABT SRBI conducted Monday and Tuesday — after Obama's comments about the mosque — 24 percent said they think he is Muslim, 47 percent said they think he is Christian and 24 percent didn't know or didn't respond.
In addition, 61 percent opposed building the Muslim center near the Trade Center site and 26 percent said they favor it.
The Pew poll found that about three in 10 of Obama's fiercest political rivals, Republicans and conservatives, say he is a Muslim. That is up significantly from last year and far higher than the share of Democrats and liberals who say so. But even among his supporters, the number saying he is a Christian has fallen since 2009, with just 43 percent of blacks and 46 percent of Democrats saying he is Christian.

Firefighters Ask For Help During “Fill The Boot”
The history of “Fill the Boot” began over 50 years ago, with a Boston Fire Department, and over the years the International Association of Fire Fighters has donated over $200 million to the MDA. The IAFF is the largest supporter of the MDA, and the SCFFA collected over $10,000 last year alone with the help of many generous people.
We hope that through the generosity of the citizens we can make this another record year in our effort to help the MDA and “Jerry’s kids.” So look for the fire fighters at intersections in Salisbury on the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day, and remember if everyone can give a little, a lot can be achieved.

True Story
Jennifer and Jim kept getting huge water bills. They knew beyond a doubt that the bills weren't representative of their actual usage, and no matter how they tried to conserve, the high bills continue.
Although they could see nothing wrong, they had everything checked for leaks or problems; first the water meter, then outdoor pipes, indoor pipes, underground pipes, faucets, toilets, washer, ice maker, etc., all to no avail.
One day Jim was sick and stayed home in bed, but kept hearing water running downstairs. He finally got up from his sick bed and went to investigate, and stumbled onto the cause of such high water bills.
Apparently this was happening all day long when they were not at home.
Knowing that few would believe him he taped a segment of the "problem", for posterity!

Nearly Half Of United States Considering Arizona-Style Immigration Legislation
Next month, two Rhode Island state lawmakers, a Democrat and a Republican, will travel to Arizona to speak with Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, local sheriffs, and other officials about how to better craft their own bipartisan immigration bill for Rhode Island, which already has been enforcing some federal immigration laws.
Meanwhile, 11 Republican state lawmakers from Colorado traveled to Arizona this week to meet with officials there on how to craft legislation for the Mile High state.
In addition, Alabama House Republicans announced this week that they would seek to “push an illegal immigration bill similar to the recently approved Arizona law.” This law would “create a new criminal trespass statute that allows local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants for simply setting foot in Alabama,” said Alabama’s House Minority Leader Mike Hubbard.
In Florida, proposed legislation against illegal immigration has been retooled to address some concerns raised by a federal judge who blocked the bill, though it would still allow Florida state police to enforce immigration law.
In all, there are 22 states considering copycat legislation from the Arizona law against illegal immigration, according to the Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee (ALIPAC), a group that advocates for stricter immigration enforcement.
Sheriff’s Challenge To Obama: Give Me Half Hour, I’ll Show You How To Secure Border
Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County, Ariz., is issuing an invitation to President Barack Obama: If the president will come and spend a half hour with Babeu in Arizona, the sheriff says, he will convince the president he can succeed in securing the border and thus make himself a hero who transcends partisan politics.
Babeu’s southern Arizona county, while not contiguous with the border, has been designated by the Justice Department as part of a High Intensity Drug Trafficking region that is a major route for drug and alien smugglers bringing narcotics and illegal aliens into the United States from Mexico. Babeu has joined with Sheriff Larry Dever of neighboring Cochise County, Ariz.—which does sit on the border—as well as with Arizona’s two senators, John McCain and Jon Kyl, in endorsing a ten-point plan for securing the border.
Noting that President Obama has visited Afghanistan to assess the security situation there, CNSNews.com asked Babeu in a videotaped interview whether he would like the president visit with him in Arizona so he can have the opportunity to persuade the president that his plan to secure the border will work.
“If the president gave me a half hour, I am confident that I could convince him and to show him the way that he can personally secure the border, and he would be the hero of everybody that truly transcends bipartisan politics and secures that border,” said Babeu. “I believe that if a leader truly wanted to do that we have the means and the resources necessary to secure our border and to protect America once and for all, and then we can get to the point in the future, only after the border is secure, that there is some type of discussion about what do we do with the approximate 13 million people who are here illegally.”
The ten-point border security plan backed by Sheriffs Babeu and Dever and Senators McCain and Kyl includes provisions to complete 700 miles of double- and triple-layered border fending, significantly increase the number of drone surveillance aircraft patrolling the border, and deploy 3,000 National Guardsmen to the Arizona section of the Mexico border alone until the governor of Arizona in consultation with local law enforcement officials certifies that the border is secure.

ACLU Turns Over Blogger IPs In Pa. Defamation Case
PITTSBURGH — The American Civil Liberties Union, who intervened in the case, turned over two IPs on Aug. 11 after an Allegheny County judge last month ruled that Forward Township Supervisor Thomas DeRosa was entitled to the information.
DeRosa has claimed he needs to know who posted the information for a defamation suit he is pursuing against two of them.
The ACLU had argued the identity of the posters was protected and that the messages they posted were so vague they didn’t amount to defamation anyway. Instead, ACLU attorney Sara Rose argued, DeRosa’s suit was simply a means to unmask citizens who disagreed with him.
Rose said the ACLU wouldn’t appeal the ruling, however.
“I think it’s bad for our First Amendment rights to just hand them over,” said Richard Rattanni, who runs the community discussion board where the comments were posted last year.
Rattanni isn’t being sued and the ACLU does not represent the two defendants DeRosa sued in November under the pseudonyms “Howard Doe” and “Robin Doe” because he has yet to learn their real names.
DeRosa claims the comments, posted under the heading “Fwd Twp. DeRosa (Equals) Corruption,” accuse him of spending township money on a car dealership he owns and of supporting a police chief candidate who will help his “corrupt” schemes, among other insults.
DeRosa’s attorney did not return a call for comment in time for this story.
Rose, the ACLU lawyer, said even though DeRosa had the IP addresses, it might take a while for him to learn the identity of the posters.
That’s because the IP addresses identify only the Internet service companies the posters used. While DeRosa’s attorneys can now ask those companies to release the posters’ names, the companies will probably alert the posters to give them a chance to hire attorneys to try to safeguard their identities, Rose said.

Candidates Clash At Somerset NAACP Forum
If you were looking for excitement, read no further. The title, while misleading, is the closest thing to “red meat” you will find in this post.
Tuesday evening, the Somerset Branch of the NAACP hosted a candidate forum at UMES. In what may have been the most well run example of a VERY LARGE candidate forum (11+ offices, over 40 candidates) that I have ever witnessed, the Somerset NAACP and UMES have set the standard by which all other similar forums should be judged.
Because of the large number of offices and candidates it was difficult to handle many questions or get into specifics. However, attendees were able to walk away with a good sense the candidates and their approaches to various issues.
In the race to replace Maryland Sen. Lowell Stoltzfus (R-38), candidates Jim Mathias and Michael James provided an overview of who they are. Unfortunately, because of time constraints we were unable to grab a true sense of the differences between the two candidates – even on the broad strokes.
The candidates to replace the late Page Elmore as delegate from district 38-A was a slightly different matter. In a general sense there are few policy disagreements between the candidates – Democrat Mike McCready and Republicans Julie Brewington, John Cannon, Charles Otto, and John Phoebus. All candidates talk about the need to bring jobs to the district and a need to reduce taxes and regulation. Four of the five candidates adamantly oppose ag land down zoning while Cannon calls for a more “holistic” approach that includes TDR’s.
The second question posed to the candidates was for them to expand on their introductory remarks, but to be more specific. McCready, Otto, and Brewington emphasized agriculture but did not promote any specific proposals. Cannon spoke about several ideas to promote economic development, including the use of incubators. Phoebus offered the most specific proposals by calling for a repeal of the 20% increase in the state sales tax and a reduction (or even elimination) of the state’s corporate income tax.

Gulf States Pushing For Attack On Iran
An editorial in an official Saudi Arabian newspaper indicates that a military attack against Iran might be the only way of stopping it from obtaining nuclear weapons. “Tehran is moving its conflict with the international community into high gear,” the Al Madina daily wrote this week, “and [in this case] some may consider the military option to be the best solution.”
Delaying recourse to this option, the paper continues, “may lead to a point where it is impossible to implement it - if Tehran manages to produce a nuclear bomb of its own.”
Former Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton goes a bit further, saying it is the only way of stopping it – but adds that it might already be too late.
Just last month, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Washington said at a conference, "A military attack on Iran by whomever would be a disaster, but Iran with a nuclear weapon would be a bigger disaster."
Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba was unusually candid in his remarks, saying, "I think it's a cost-benefit analysis. I think despite the large amount of trade we do with Iran, which is close to $12 billion… there will be consequences, there will be a backlash and there will be problems with people protesting and rioting and very unhappy that there is an outside force attacking a Muslim country; that is going to happen no matter what… Am I willing to live with that, versus living with a nuclear Iran? My answer is still the same: 'We cannot live with a nuclear Iran.' I am willing to absorb what takes place at the expense of the security of the U.A.E."
Conservative Think-Tank Releases ‘Solutions For America’ Agenda For 2010
The conservative group hopes the blueprint will be a major part of the 2010 mid-term elections -- an updated “Contract with America,” the platform that helped sweep Republicans to a congressional majority in 1994.
“Solutions for America,” addresses entitlements, runaway spending, defense, immigration, welfare, health care and other matters.
“It mimics some aspects of the [Contract With America]. Welfare reform was in the contract. This takes it to the next level,” Michael Franc, vice president of government relations for the conservative think tank, told CNSNews.com at a press conference.
“This goes way beyond the contract in many ways by basically looking at what needs to be done about the entitlement state, what needs to be done about the relationship with the federal and state governments, immigration are in here. We have a broader scope than the contract ever had,” he added.
The report tackles entitlements, at a time when about 77 million baby boomers are flooding into Social Security and Medicare. The plan calls for requiring Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid – “The Big Three” -- to live within firm, congressionally approved budgets.
“Currently, Big Three spending is on autopilot – increasing automatically year after year,” the plan says. “Entitlement spending must be brought into the congressional budgetary process.”
On the current track, entitlement spending is set to go from 20 percent of the economy to 50 percent, the plan says. Further, if taxes remain at historical average, spending on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security will consume all revenues by 2052.
It also calls for allowing people over 65 to continue working without paying FICA taxes, which would be an incentive not to move onto Social Security as quickly, and allow them to keep private health insurance through their jobs instead of Medicare – easing the strain on the two programs.
Entitlements are part of a wider problem of spending. Federal spending is at its highest level since World War II. The president’s proposal budget outlook would increase the national debt from $13 trillion now to $20 trillion by 2020.
The Heritage plan suggests a firm cap on overall spending and limiting future year-to-year growth to inflation plus population growth.

Democrats’ Oldies Tour Lauds Social Security, Medicare
Unable to make a sizable dent in unemployment, Democrats are on the political equivalent of a golden oldies tour, pledging support for Social Security, Medicare and other venerable programs while trying to stoke voter fears about Republican intentions.
More than nostalgia is at stake as Democrats court a series of key voting blocs 11 weeks before midterm elections in which Republicans are making a strong drive to gain control of the House as well as several governorships, and perhaps even the Senate.
In his most recent radio and Internet address, President Obama accused some Republicans of “pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win a majority in Congress this fall.”
Marking the 75th anniversary of the program’s creation, he said, “We have an obligation to keep that promise, to safeguard Social Security for our seniors, people with disabilities and all Americans — today, tomorrow and forever.”
Obama did not name any Republican by name, but one prominent GOP lawmaker, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, has proposed giving workers under age 55 an option of investing in a private account rather than remain in the government-run Social Security system.
In response, Republicans say changes are needed to preserve the program’s financial soundness, and accuse Democrats of a diversionary tactic in a campaign dominated by voter concerns about the economy. They “are looking to change the subject to anything but their failed record on jobs,” the Republican National Committee rebutted.
Analysis: Protecting Obama Cost Prosecution Blago Case
Not obtaining a guilty verdict on any of the primary counts leveled against Blagojevich was viewed as a serious setback for prosecutors, especially given the federal conviction rate of over 95 percent.
"They should be so embarrassed," Fox news legal commentator Tamara Holder, a Chicago-area attorney, tells Newsmax.
Holder blamed the outcome on the lack of compelling testimony.
"I think that this is a very interesting issue, because I think that [White House Chief of Staff Rahm] Emanuel was not called [to testify], Axelrod, whomever else, Obama himself, in an effort to protect the administration," Holder says. "You know once you open the door and you put these guys on the stand, well, the cat's out of the bag and you open them to cross-examination and whatnot."
BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Eeekly Jobless Claims Jump To 9-Month High Of 500,000
Unexpected climb is yet another setback for already frail recovery
WASHINGTON — New applications for unemployment insurance reached the half-million mark last week for the first time since November, a sign that employers are likely cutting jobs again as the economy slows.
The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for jobless benefits rose by 12,000 last week to 500,000, the fourth increase in the past five weeks. Wall Street economists forecast that claims would drop.
The four-week average, a less volatile measure, rose by 8,000 to 482,500, the highest since December. There were no special factors that distorted the numbers, a Labor Department analyst said.
The increase suggests the economy is creating even fewer jobs than in the first half of this year, when private employers added an average of about 100,000 jobs per month. That's barely enough to keep the unemployment rate from rising. The jobless rate has been stuck at 9.5 percent for two months

Pension Fund Commission Appointments Delayed
The commission created by the legislature to review the long-term prospects for the state’s pension system has yet to be appointed three months after it was signed into law, and its first report is due Dec. 15.
Aides to the governor and legislative leaders who will appoint seven of the commission’s eight members say that the appointments will be announced soon. But at least one union official speculates that the process has been slowed to avoid any discussion of controversial changes before the election.
Strong performance of investments this past year has boosted the retirement funds, but there is still $18 billion in unfunded liability over the next 30 years, and the funds are far below established goals.

Who the #@!% was the post office to tell me how to manage my business?
According to the post office rules, it is not an acceptable signature. According to Citi, JP Morgan Chase and FIA, which are 3 major credit card companies, it is (I called and asked). And I guess my Maryland license, which has my signature, name, and photo on it, is also not valid identification, since it was not accepted in conjunction with my credit card.
There are a few further flaws to the post office rule. Since the purchase was under $25, they are suppose to process it with out looking for a signature (this according to the supervisor, so why was my card refused?). And they would have accepted an UNSIGNED debit card, regardless of the amount or if it belonged to me or not - just not an unsigned credit card, which actually belonged to me. (Now bear in mind, not once was I asked for identification, this was all about a signature.)
This would explain my comment about their inconsistent policy; in the past my non-signature was a non-issue and now all of sudden it was an issue. Polite words were exchanged and I told them that maybe they should actually know what the actual credit card rules were before they started making their own up and when I inquired with "what would the public need to do, in an attempt to start in motion a complaint to get this rule changed". Their answer is, nothing. Too much bureaucratic red tape and there is no one to complain to. So tomorrow I will go to UPS, and the US Postal Service can continue to wonder why they are losing business and going broke. Their archaic motto: "That's the way we have always done it".
I must make note that the employees at the counter are always the nicest people, but their supervisor needs to work on those people skills. When you have a complaint or inquiry, you pretty much get the "screw you" attitude.
Simplifying The Lives Of Web Users
I’m about to make your life better. No need to thank me.
But first, a warning: On the way to understanding how your life will get better, you’ll have to read about some technical, fairly arcane topics. Trust me: it’ll be worth it.
In this case, the topic is your Web browsing, and the magic wand is a free service called OpenDNS.
You know how every Web site has an address, like www.google.com or www.nytimes.com? Turns out that’s just a fakeout. It’s a convenient crutch for you, the human with limited brain capacity.
Behind the scenes, the actual address is a string of numbers (called an I.P. address, for Internet protocol) that looks something like this: 74.125.53.100. (That happens to be Google’s address.)
Nobody can remember those addresses, though they are no longer than a phone number, so the Web’s thoughtful designers came up with a secondary system: plain-English addresses like www.whatever.com. When you type that into your browser, a computer at your Internet provider performs a quick lookup. “Aha,” it says to itself in its little digital way, “you just typed www.google.com. What you really want, of course, is 74.125.53.100. Please hold; I’ll connect you.”
That, in a nutshell, is how D.N.S. works. (It stands for domain name system, in case that helps.)
Unfortunately, from time to time, your Internet provider’s D.N.S. computer goes down. To you, it seems that the Web itself has gone out, because you can’t pull up any sites at all. In December 2008, for example, 1.2 million Los Angeles citizens thought that the entire Web had gone offline, because of a crashed Time Warner D.N.S. computer.

Bob Ehrlich To Meet With Howard County Residents On Economy And Taxes
Parents and Small Business Owners Invited To Share Views On Economic Challenges and Priorities
Bob Ehrlich will join with families in Howard County tomorrow in a roundtable discussion on the economic and tax challenges they are facing, and his plan to create jobs and lower taxes. Ehrlich wants to know what Howard County residents view as their top priorities. He will review his plans to create jobs, lower the sales tax by 20%, and to prevent its expansion to 43 new services next year. Bob Ehrlich has held more than four dozen roundtable meetings this year in his campaign to get Maryland working again with more jobs, lower taxes, and reduced government spending.
Coming To Grips With Shariah
Suddenly, it seems, everyone is talking about Shariah. In particular, growing controversies over proposed mosques at Ground Zero and other sites are becoming powerful "teaching moments" - raising awareness about the repressive theo-political-military-legal doctrine that animates the builders and that their fellow adherents seek to impose on the entire world.
This is a most welcome development in light of the grave and growing threat posed by this agenda and the concerted effort being made - here and elsewhere, through violent jihad and the stealthy kind - to realize that goal.
Unfortunately, too many Americans still remain unaware of the magnitude of the danger we face from Shariah. Worse yet, their ability to comprehend this threat, let alone respond appropriately to it, is being seriously disserved by people who know better - or should.
Specifically, the public is being seriously misled by 1) some journalists and politicians who are obscuring the true nature of Shariah and 2) Shariah practitioners who engage in deliberate deception to facilitate the penetration of their doctrine into Western societies.
As an example of the former, consider the article that led the New York Times front page on Sunday entitled "Battles around Nation over Proposed Mosques." It accurately reported that Americans from the Ground Zero neighborhood in Lower Manhattan to San Bernardino are expressing growing concern about Muslim mosques that "seek to replace the U.S. Constitution with Islamic Shariah law."
Yet, the Times proceeded to dismiss the idea that such mosques are a problem. It cited "interfaith groups led by Protestant ministers, Catholic priests, rabbis and clergy members from other faiths [who] have defended the mosques." One such individual was quoted as saying that the opponents "have fear because they don't know" those involved in such mosques.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg went even further last week declaring that those critical of the construction of a permanent symbol of Shariah adherents' victorious destruction of the World Trade Center "ought to be ashamed of themselves" for being intolerant. Moreover, he categorically rejected the idea that it was reasonable, let alone necessary, to determine the source of funds for the $100-plus million mega-mosque near Ground Zero.
In other words, the Mayor seemingly is indifferent to whether the funding for the mosque sponsored by the Cordoba Initiative (named for the capital city of the Moorish conquerors of Spain and the site where they triumphally transformed a Catholic church into a massive mosque) might be the Saudis, with their version of Shariah known as Wahhabism.
This cavalier attitude is absolutely stupefying insofar as two years ago this month, the New York Police Department issued a report warning that Wahhabi mosques in America were incubators for "homegrown" Islamic radicals.
The Mayor has a duty to know a lot more than he evidently does about Shariah. He certainly has an obligation to figure out whether - as is true of, by some estimates, 80% of the mosques in America - the Ground Zero Mosque is going to fit the profile of a Wahhabi-associated facility.
The challenge of assuring public awareness of the Shariah threat would be hard enough if the only impediment were ill-informed politicians and journalists. Matters are made much worse by the skill with which Shariah's adherents dissemble, or simply lie.
For example, the New York Times article cited Camie Ayash, a spokeswoman for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, Tennessee - the sponsors of a proposed 52,000 square foot mosque that has precipitated an intense local backlash. It reported that Ms. Ayash "lamented that people were listening to 'total disinformation' on Islam." She then engaged in a classic example of real disinformation - or what Shariah calls taqqiya - claiming, "There's no conflict with the U.S. Constitution in Shariah law."
Now, even the most superficial review of Shariah shows that statement to be preposterous and misleading. In fact, among other Constitution-affronting features, Islamic law prohibits democratic law-making. It requires the replacement of constitutions and governments like ours with a global theocracy governed by Islamic law. It brutalizes women and otherwise treats them as second-class citizens and authorizes the murder of homosexuals and apostates.
Shariah is, in short, wholly incompatible with our legal system, freedoms and way of life.
Then, there was this gem from Ihsan Bagby, an associate professor in Islamic Studies at the University of Kentucky. The Times quoted him as saying that while "radicalization of alienated Muslim youths is a real threat, the youth we worry about are not the youth that come to the mosque[s]."
Look no further than the NYPD report for a reality check. It reported that: "This [Shariah] ideology is proliferating in Western democracies at a logarithmic rate. The Internet, certain Salafi-based non-governmental organizations, extremist sermons/study groups, Salafi literature, jihadi videotapes, extremist-sponsored trips to radical madrassas and militant training camps abroad have served as "extremist incubators" for young, susceptible Muslims - especially ones living in diaspora communities in the West." (Emphasis added.)
Americans across this country are struggling to understand the true nature of the threat we face from Shariah. They are entitled to straight talk about the extent to which it is being insinuated, promoted and legitimated not only in mosques but by financial institutions, banks, academic institutions and government agencies. Those who fail to provide such unvarnished truths are part of the problem, and should be treated accordingly.

Magazine Scam Working Neighborhoods
I was all set to write a check. After all he was a neighbor, living right around the corner on Strawberry Way. I didn't recognize the name he gave, so I asked for the number of the house and he gave "21xx"
Something didn't sound right. I asked him for his driver's license, and, wouldn't you know, his wallet had just been stolen and he didn't have any identification on him. I told him to wait on the porch and I came inside to look up the name he gave.
No such person lived in Pemberton Ponds, according to my roster. I told him he didn't check out and to have his parents call me. His house number was bogus, since all Strawberry Way addresses begin with "6..."
I googled "magazine subscriptions troops internship" and wouldn't you know, several instances of a similar scam had been reported in other neighborhoods nationwide and to the BBB.
The $25.00 check is not the objective, the objective is identity theft by stealing your routing number and bank information off the check, which will then be used to produce other checks to clean out your account.
I reported the incident to the police while he was still in the neighborhood. More info will be posted in the Yahoo group when it is updated.
My suspicious nature paid off this time, but it didn't kick in right away. He had a smooth line and a friendly and likeable manner. My advice, always get identification and check out door-to-door vendors.
GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF HISTORIC REFORMS IN FOSTER CARE AND ADOPTION SYSTEM
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley joined Lt. Governor Anthony Brown – an adoptive parent himself – as well as Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, foster families, advocates, community leaders and others to announce the results of the Governor’s Place Matters initiative, a reform program for Maryland’s child welfare system that focuses on finding permanent families for children in foster care. Standing in front of the home of Keith and Gladys Fisher, who have adopted two sets of three siblings, Governor O’Malley announced that in the last three years, since the Place Matters initiative was put in place, 8,760 Maryland children have found permanent homes through adoption, reunification, and guardianship.
“In our One Maryland, we’re united in the belief in the dignity of every individual, that there’s no such thing as a spare Marylander,” said Governor O’Malley. “For too many Maryland children, circumstances of abandonment, neglect, or abuse have brought them into the State’s foster care system. For them, the importance of a stable, safe family-setting for their well-being is all too real, and they depend on a functioning, efficient foster system to work on their behalf.”
Since 2008, Maryland’s child welfare system has achieved 2,100 adoptions – including a 19.6 percent increase in three years – reunified 5,100 children with their families, and placed 1,500 children under guardianship with another family member. These results have driven down the number of children in Maryland’s foster care system by 20 percent, and reduced the number of children in group homes by half.
“The most important factor in a child’s life is a stable, loving home in which a child can laugh, learn and thrive. Foster and adoptive parents are our local heroes who provide a fresh start, a second chance and the loving home that so many of our children need,” said Lt. Governor Brown, whose 10-year-old son, Jonathan, is adopted. “Governor O’Malley and I share the belief that our children are our future, our next generation of bright leaders who will advance our great State and leave their children with a better world, a better Maryland than we inherited.”
“I am grateful to Governor O’Malley for the Place Matters initiative, which implemented necessary reforms to the state’s child welfare system,” said Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “I want to also thank the foster and adoptive parents who opened their homes and hearts to vulnerable children in need of a loving home. Your commitment to providing them with a stable and nurturing environment will make our communities and City stronger.”
Nearly 1,800 child welfare workers were trained on the family-centered practice model that is at the center of Governor O’Malley’s Place Matters initiative. Trainings included instruction on family team meetings, leading to a further reduction in the number of children in the state’s foster system. All front-line social and child-welfare workers were equipped with cell phones and updated computers, making the system more efficient and better able to serve the population. For the first time in 22 years, Governor O’Malley signed into law an update on the state’s child support guidelines.
More than 2,225 new foster parents have been recruited in the last three years. One of those families is the Burnette family. Michele Burnette, President of the Maryland Foster Parent Association, and her husband have been foster parents to more than 30 children, and have four biological children and one adopted child. Michele joined the Governor and Lt. Governor for today’s announcement.
“All of my children are the real unsung heroes. For years they have shared their homes, bedrooms, toys and parents with any child that has come into our home,” explained Michele Burnette, president of the Maryland Foster Parent Association. “Because my husband I decided to open our home to foster children, it has made all of them the wonderful, caring, kind and sensitive members of society that they are.”
Keith and Gladys Fisher, who hosted the Governor for today’s announcement on their front lawn, have six adopted children. The Fisher’s have adopted two sets of three siblings in the last eight years.
Those interested in becoming a foster parent can contact Maryland’s Department of Human Resources at 1-888-MD-KIDS2 (1-888-635-4372).
