Sunday Postings
If things show up a little late tomorrow morning it's because I slept in for once. I'm not sure I know how to do that any more but I'm going to give it a try. Have a good evening and we'll see you tomorrow.
Family, Friends, Business Associates, Law Enforcement, Say Goodbye To Sam Vincent
Today, I spent some of the finest quality time I have ever had the privilege of enjoying. Trinity Church in Salisbury was so packed, they actually had to hold the over flow across the street where they fed the ceremony of Sam's life via video feed to an extended crowd.
The speakers brought forth messages of Sam's life and how he touched so many throughout the Eastern Shore. I'll not get into details but I will say I was truly touched by every single speaker and I walked away a much better man today.
Sam Vincent clearly lived a life of direction and honor. We should all be so lucky to walk in that mans shadow, should we ever achieve such greatness. Mr. Perdue shared a story about Sam as a young man after his Pop Pop passed away. His Father had passed away two years prior and Mr. Perdue's story certainly left me convinced that Sam is resting peacefully in that very place we all long to go, HOME.
I envy those who were close to Sam Vincent as there is absolutely no question in my mind that this was a man you'd have to be honored to call your friend. WOW, what a cool guy!
R.I.P. Sam Vincent. Perhaps one day we'll meet again and by that time I will have achieved and become 1/10th the man you were on earth. I've got a lot of work to do. Thanks for sharing those stories today and may God Bless the entire Vincent Family.

WHY GET OUT OF YOUR CAR TO ROB THE BANK WHEN THERE IS A DRIVE-THRU?? TROOPERS NAB DRIVE-THRU ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT
(Mt. Airy, MD) – In an apparent attempt to increase his getaway speed, a Carroll County armed robber today decided to stay inside the car he had stolen and commit the armed robbery at the drive-thru, but unfortunately for him, Maryland state troopers are tonight taking him to the drive-thru at the county detention center.
The accused is identified as James L. Meadows, 30, of the 8800-block of Brown Church Road, Mt. Airy, Md. He is charged with robbery, attempted robbery, attempted theft, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, theft, and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony. He has been taken to the Carroll County Detention Center central booking section where he will await his initial appearance before a court commissioner.
Just before 9:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barracks received a call reporting an attempted armed robbery at the New Windsor State Bank, in the 1000-block of Twin Arch Road, Mt. Airy. Witnesses told troopers who responded that the suspect was a white male, wearing an orange mask, who had walked up to the drive-thru window and knocked on it with a hard object, later identified as a handgun. The suspect was wearing a camouflage glove on one hand. He received no response at the bank window, so he fled the area in what was described as a tan Chevrolet Malibu.
Less than 15 minutes later, State Police in Westminster received another report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Bank of America, in the unit-block of East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Responding troopers were told a white male, wearing the same items as described in the previous attempt, had pulled up to the drive-thru window in a tan car, pointed a silver handgun at the tellers behind the window and demanded money. Cash was passed out through the drive-thru drawer to the armed man, who then drove off.
About ten minutes after the second robbery, State Police received a call from a Mt. Airy woman who reported her vehicle had been stolen from her residence that morning. She described her vehicle as a tan, four-door, Chevrolet Malibu.
State Police investigators from the Westminster Barracks Criminal Investigation Section spent the day interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence from the crime scenes. Their investigation led to the identity of Meadows as a possible suspect.
Troopers from the Frederick Barracks located Meadows and his girlfriend at the Motor Vehicle Administration office next to their barracks early this afternoon. Troopers found evidence inside the girlfriend’s vehicle connecting Meadows with evidence from the scene, including keys to a Chevrolet. Meadows was also in possession of several hundred dollars in cash which he could not explain. There is no indication at this time Meadows’ girlfriend was involved in the robberies. She has not been charged.
At this time, troopers have not recovered the handgun or the stolen vehicle. Their search for these items is continuing, as is the investigation into today’s robberies.

Obama Announces $2 Billion For Solar Power
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama announced Saturday the awarding of nearly$2 billion (euro1.59 billion) for new solar plants that he said will create thousands of jobs and increase the country's use of renewable energy sources.
Obama disclosed the funding in his weekly radio and online address, saying it is part of his plan to bring new industries to the U.S.
"We're going to keep competing aggressively to make sure the jobs and industries of the future are taking root right here in America," Obama said.
The two companies that will receive the funds from the president's $862 billion economic stimulus are Abengoa Solar, which will build one of the world's largest solar plants in Arizona, creating 1,600 construction jobs; and Abound Solar Manufacturing, which is building plants in Colorado and Indiana. The Obama administration says those projects will create more than 2,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs.
Obama's announcement came a day after the Labor Department reported that employers slashed payrolls last month for the first time in six months, driven by the expected end of 225,000 temporary census jobs. Meanwhile, private-sector hiring rose by 83,000 workers.

O'Malley Trails Ehrlich in Maryland
Republican challenger Robert Ehrlich now leads Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley in the rematch of their 2006 gubernatorial contest, according to a new poll released Friday.
Mr. Ehrlich has opened up a 3 percentage point lead over the Democratic governor in one of the nation's more liberal states, according to an automated survey of over 750 likely voters by the polling firm Magellan Strategies. It is the first poll to show the one-term former GOP governor ahead in the race.
According to the Magellan poll, Mr. Ehrlich was preferred by 46 percent of state voters to 43 percent for Mr. O'Malley, a close political ally of President Obama. About 4 percent of those polled preferred another candidate and 7 percent were undecided.
The spread was within the poll's 3.5 percent margin of error, but another finding suggested more political troubles for the Democratic incumbent. Only 41 percent of Maryland voters said they had a favorable opinion of the governor, compared to 45 percent with an unfavorable opinion. For Mr. Ehrlich, 51 percent of voters reported having a favorable opinion vs. 32 percent with a negative opinion.

DEACE: No Turning Back From Change In The GOP
What's going on in the Republican Party across the country isn't a civil war as much as it's a tale of two paradigms.
When you remove the names, personalities, egos, candidates and factions that are being discussed constantly, what this represents is a seismic shift in the political preferences of the Republican base as the GOP has squandered the power voters lavished upon it over the past decade.
Instead of taking their majorities in both houses of Congress and teaming with the presidency to stem the tide of pagan socialism incrementally implemented by the Democratic Party for generations, Republicans punted on nearly every cultural issue while simultaneously cashing the check at the taxpayers' expense, creating a sense of betrayal that many Americans - including the party's own grass-roots supporters - still haven't gotten over.
This is why people aren't buying into new top-down leadership, seeing it as a repackaged version of that in which they already have lost trust. Attempts to unify the party come across as clumsy or condescending, at best, without recognizing that both conservatives focused on economics and conservatives focused on social issues have seen their core beliefs trampled by leaders who claimed to be their champions.
Unification as it was defined in the previous era is impossible. Trust is gone. As is the case with the breakup of any long-term relationship, both sides try to exert pressure on each other to avoid the fear of what comes next before finally letting go.
To put it in Facebook vernacular, the relationship status of the old Reagan coalition in America could best be described by the phrase "it's complicated."
The old Reagan coalition was the last seismic shift in American politics, mainstreaming born-again Christians and their domestic concerns while rebuilding a tough containment policy in the Cold War. That renewed, confident America crushed the Soviet Union.
However, once that external threat was neutralized, those new activists in the Reagan coalition expected cultural threats from within to become a higher priority. Marxists on college campuses were every bit as dangerous as the ones in Moscow.
But ever since Pat Buchanan's infamous "culture war" speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention, the divide between the party establishment and grass-roots social conservatives has grown. Conservatives put aside their concerns in the days following Sept. 11, 2001, once again giving ground on their priorities to face down an external threat. As social conservatives saw their issues drift into the background, economic conservatives found their core values under assault by their own administration.
Now that many Americans no longer sense a clear and present danger from Islamic radicalism as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq rage on and on with no end in sight, the cultural divide between traditional party-focused Republicans and issue-focused conservatives has returned with a vengeance.

'Obama Warns Erdogan-- International Gaza Flotilla Probe Bad For Turkey'
US President Barak Obama warned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that an international probe into Israel's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla could have negative consequences for Turkey, British Arabic-language daily al-Hayat reported Saturday.
According to the report, Obama warned Erdogan that the international probe which Turkey has demanded could turn into a "double edged sword," as it could lead to accusations against the passengers on board the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara ship, some of whom were members of the pro-Palestinian IHH organization.
The two leaders met in Canada on the sidelines of the G-20 summit earlier this week.
Following the Israeli Navy commandos' raid in May in which nine Turkish activists were killed Turkey announced that it was recalling its ambassador to Israel.
Erdogan said the incident represented a complete violation of international law and called for an international probe into the military action.
Aid To Gaza Flows Despite Rocket Attacks On Israel
Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza are continuing without a break, despite the stepped-up rocket attacks on southern Israeli communities emanating from the region.
On Wednesday a Kassam rocket badly damaged a factory in the Sdot Negev region. No one was physically injured in the attack.
That same day, 128 trucks filled with humanitarian aid supplies were sent through the crossings into Gaza, as they are every day except Friday and the Sabbath. The trucks carried various foodstuffs, diesel fuel for the Gaza electric power generator, cooking gas and 82 electric wheelchairs from the flotilla.
In addition to Wednesday's attack, Hamas terrorists in Gaza fired more than 10 other missiles and mortar shells at southern Israel over the past week, and several more the week before. No one was wounded.
More than 90 rockets and mortar shells have been fired at Israeli civilians from Gaza since January. Since the end of Operation Cast Lead, Israel's 2008-2009 winter war against Hamas, Gaza terrorists have fired more than 330 rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel.

3 GOP Senators Line Up Against Kagan
Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan drew opposition Friday from Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and two members of the GOP rank and file, raising the prospect of a confirmation largely along party lines.
"The American people expect a justice who will impartially apply the law, not one who will be a rubberstamp for the Obama administration or any other administration," McConnell said in a written statement one day after Kagan, 50, wrapped up three days of testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Democrats hold a 59-41 majority in the Senate, and Kagan's confirmation is widely viewed as a certainty, barring an unexpected decision by Republicans to try and prevent a final vote. The Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on the appointment on July 13.
In a written statement, McConnell quoted Kagan as telling the Senate Judiciary Committee this week it is "difficult to take off the advocate's hat and put on the judge's hat."
The statement added, "That difficulty is particularly acute for someone like Ms. Kagan, who has spent so much of her adult life practicing the art of political advocacy rather than practicing law."

Wargotz Leads Mikulski By 3% In Recent Poll
Poll Data from CD1 Baltimore County is Encouraging
Annapolis, MD-- As per the suggestion of the Tarrance Group, The Wargotz for U.S. Senate Campaign has provided additional details subsequent to the initial press release announcing Dr. Wargotz's lead in Baltimore County CD1. We thank the Tarrance Group for advising us on how best to present the information. The Wargotz campaign also thanks the Andy Harris Campaign for U.S. Congress for their assistance in obtaining this important and encouraging data.
In a poll conducted by the Tarrance Group, lead Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Eric Wargotz is leading 24-year incumbent Senator Barbara Mikulski in CD1 Baltimore County. Wargotz, serving out his first term as the elected President of the Queen Anne's County Board of Commissioners, received 34% of the vote, while Mikulski received 31%. A little known independent candidate received 9%. Twenty-six percent of the voters were undecided.
The poll was done over two days at the end of May and although the sample is limited (41), we believe the numbers are important to note, and encouraging. We chose to report the Baltimore County data as we expect it to be a bell-weather predictor. Wargotz also beat Mikulski in some Eastern Shore Counties. It shows that our state-wide efforts to oust the incumbent are "bearing some fruit."
The Tarrance Group is one of the most widely respected and successful Republican strategic research and polling firms in the nation.
"These results prove what I have known for over a year, this race is winnable," Wargotz said. "I am particularly pleased with these numbers as we have focused campaign resources and time in the Baltimore area, her home base. As we continue to focus our efforts in other counties, we are confident that we will see similar, if not better, positive numbers," Wargotz continued.
"In fact, with these poll results, I am so confident that our message is resonating with the voters of Maryland, I have placed an additional $500,000 into the campaign so that we can take our message of creating jobs, cutting wasteful spending and lowering taxes to the four corners of Maryland" continued Wargotz.
In addition to being the only elected official running for the Republican nomination, Commissioner Wargotz is also a practicing physician and business owner. Eric and his wife, Cheryl-Ann live on the Eastern Shore where they are raising their three children.
