Grown Man Wears Mask To Hide Identity

Jonathan Taylor continues to promote abuse with advertisers on Salisbury News.

Here's a grown man who feels the need to wear a costume while telling lies. He can't sell advertising because he's on disability and can't collect income or he'll lose his free ride. Section 8 Housing, Food Stamps, it's all about sucking off the taxpayers. Rumor has it his buddies Billy & Stephanie Burke are losing their home and moving to the country, out of Pocomoke.

Thanks for sharing this video Jonathan. My readers will enjoy seeing how immature you truly are. You've Been Blogged.

GRASSHOPPERS PLATE NINTH INNING RUN TO STEAL GAME TWO

Mikey Planeta Records Three RBIs In Losing Effort

Salisbury, Md.
– The Delmarva Shorebirds surrendered a run in the ninth inning and dropped game two of the series to Greensboro, 6-5, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Kyle Skipworth hit the eventual game winning RBI in the top of the ninth inning through the left side of the infield.

The Grasshoppers jumped to an early lead in the first. Chad Cregar hit a two out double and moved to third on an error by Tyler Kolodny. He scored on a balk by Shorebirds starter Jesse Beal.

The ‘Hoppers established a five-run lead in the third inning. Carlos Paulino hit a one out single and advanced to second on a walk by Chad Cregar. Paulino then came into score on a wild throw by Kolodny on a ground ball hit by Kyle Jensen. The next batter, Kyle Skipworth, belted a three-run homer over the left-center field wall to give Greensboro a 5-0 lead.

The Shorebirds fought back with five runs in the fifth inning. Garabez Rosa led off with a base hit into center field. Gary Helmick drew a walk to put runners at first and second. The next batter, Tyler Townsend, grounded to second and Terrence Dayleg threw wild towards second, allowing Rosa to score. Then, T.J. Baxter was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mikey Planeta followed with a lined double into left center field to clear the bases and pull the ‘Birds within one. Tyler Stampone tied the game with a line drive double to the wall in left to bring home Planeta.

The score remained dead locked at 5-5 until the top of the ninth inning. Sequoyah Stoncipher led off with a single. After two outs were recorded, he reached second on a wild pitch. Stoncipher scored on a single by Kyle Skipworth into left field.

Jesse Beal pitched well for Delmarva in a starting role. He allowed six hits and three earned runs. Nathan Moreau was pinned with the loss in 2.2 innings. He gave up two hits and one run.

Sandy Rosario picked up the win in the final 4.2 innings. He allowed four hits and no runs, while striking out eight batters.

The Shorebirds play the Grasshoppers in game two of the series on Thursday, April 22 at 7:05 p.m.

A Letter To The Editor About Wicomico Dispensary

Joe, I hope you post this not as a comment to this but as a separate blurb.

I was in the Wicomico Liquor store on Tilghman Rd. back in November for a wine tasting. There was an outburst by a black male employee to a white female employee right in front of those of us there for the tasting. This was so totally uncalled for as well as vulgar since he dropped the F-bomb & called her out of character which was total discrimination. I wasn't the only witness to this. I know for a fact that the female employee called the store manager that night & reported the incident. I told her I would be a witness to this if need be. The male employee continued to work there for at least a month before he left, this of his own free will. Over the time I've been a customer there I have heard the most vulgar, nasty language in that store from the male employees. This is loud enough for everyone to hear. The F-bomb is most prevalent. I, being a male am disgusted with this so I can't imagine what it is like having to work with such language. But as usual nothing has ever been done as it's still happening. I swore I would never go back to that store on Tilghman, but there are times when I have do due to convenience, BUT I'm still hearing the raunchy, nasty language. So what will be done?????

WARNING: Door To Door Meat Salesman

Beware of the Capitol Meat Company coming door to door right now in Salisbury. We have readers who claim they have been ripped off in the past and today when one of them asked the sales person for their permit they fumbled around in their van for a while and came back stating someone must have taken it out of the van.

Folks, if they come to your door, as them to produce their permit or get the heck out of there. The City of Salisbury requires them to have a Permit.

Aydelotte Farms Developer Owes Salisbury $410,000

former Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman Remember Salisbury’s NE Collector Road?  You know, the road that was supposed to cut travel time to the mall in half and not cost the taxpayers a dime.  At least that’s what Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart, and Gary Comegys told us (Shanie Shields just votes they way her masters instruct her to).  I’ll admit, it’s a nice road.  I use it from time to time myself.  I just know that there’s no such thing as a free lunch … or a free road.

Well, it appears that the chickens are coming home to roost on that little ribbon of asphalt.  First, the developers stated that they were giving the road right of way to the city.  Then they demanded payment, despite the fact that the city was providing a TIF subsidy for the road.  NOW the developers are in arrears both to the city of Salisbury AND to the TIF bondholders.  According to Salisbury finance chief Pam Oland:

…an update related to the Aydelotte TIF.  Currently for FY 10, all taxes (including special taxes) have been paid on all properties within the Aydelotte TIF, excluding the large parcel still held by the developers.  That parcel owes regular taxes as well as special taxes for FY 10.  The total amount currently due is $410,106.99.  Meetings are currently being held between the developers, the bond holders and the City to discuss how to use the remaining funds in the project account and what are the updated estimates for sales.  If the taxes are not paid by June 16th, the property will be auctioned during the tax sale.

former Salisbury councilman Mike Dunn What happens IF the property can’t be sold?  It surely won’t be enough to cover the back taxes AND the bond principle.

Remember, the bonds were issued by the city of Salisbury!  The taxpayers were promised that they would NEVER be on the hook for this blatant subsidy of another developer.  I sincerely hope that this is one instance where the usual suspects actually told the truth.

Thanks Barrie.  Thanks Mike.  You might be gone, but the taxpayers just keep on paying!

Sex, Lies, and Advertisers

Sex, Lies, and Videotape Is there a special hell for those who claim that an individual commits an offense against his fellow man and then commits the very same crime that he was just whining about? I don’t know, but there probably should be. Such is the recent case of our not-so-favorite Grinch, and possibly some of his minions.

Think back a little over a year ago. Gary Comegys was in the midst of his unsuccessful campaign to replace Barrie Tilghman. SbyNEWS publisher Joe Albero had the audacity to publish some photos of area businesses sporting some very prominent “Comegys for Mayor” signs. NOTE that Albero didn’t call for a boycott of these businesses; he just let the public know who was supporting who.

What was the response from the Barrie Comegys house blogger? Joe Albero is a horrible person because he dares to write that Burnett-White Tire Co. (among others) have Comegys signs on their property. YET, Jonathan Taylor (the Barrie Comegys house blogger) has posted a list of businesses (with phone numbers) and calls on his VAST army of readers (all 12 of them) to call these advertisers and “share their opinions of Joe Albero and sbynews” (sic).

Evidently, at least one of Taylor’s faithful readers has taken his advice. Former Delmar mayoral candidate Tom McGuire has called at least three businesses who advertise on SbyNEWS. According to these business owners, one was berated for advertising on SbyNEWS and told that they would no longer enjoy this person’s patronage. Another was threatened with physical violence. A third was told, “You must be a child molester like the rest of ‘em.” This last business owner also claims that the caller asked him if he knew that Albero had stated that he “wished Jennifer Foxwell was dead”. (for those readers not aware, Ms. Foxwell is the mother of the unfortunate child murdered in Wicomico County at Christmas.)

I obtained a phone number from which these calls were made from the business’s caller ID. While this number is not in the name of McGuire (it is in his wife’s name), he answered the phone. Mr. McGuire admits to calling these businesses. However, he denies making any threats, calling anyone a “child molester” or making a statement regarding Ms. Foxwell. McGuire also states that he actually spoke to only one person. He also claims that he has no ties to Jonathan Taylor, although I never brought up the subject of Mr. Taylor.

As I didn’t witness the calls themselves, I was willing to leave it at that – a case of “he said / she said” (shades of the Daily Times). However, I was unable to complete this post Tuesday afternoon as planned. When I came back to complete the post I decided to see if there were any additions to the Barrie Comegys blog. Lo and behold! There was now video with Mr. Taylor, in his Grinch suit, talking about Albero and Ms. Foxwell. This “coincidence” was a tad too much to swallow!

Jonathan Taylor for City Council We mustn’t forget that Taylor has a despicable record of making outrageous, even libelous, statements and then deleting the posts days or weeks later. He has not only attacked Albero, councilwoman Debbie Campbell, and councilwoman Terry Cohen, he has attacked their families. He recently claimed that he was cleaning up his act in anticipation of a run for Salisbury City Council next year. Now, he’s back to his old tricks.

What does this mean for Salisbury News? Not much. Joe Albero will keep publishing. I will continue my modest contribution. However, the pathetic antics of a few maladjusted individuals do make it difficult on advertisers who simply wish to reach the sizable audience provided by Salisbury News (thanks to its readers).

Fortunately, I believe that those who choose to advertise here know that they are appreciated by those who read, rather than ridicule. I am confident that they are receiving great value for their advertising dollars. Some advertisers may choose to leave rather than put up with the foolishness of people like Taylor and his little team of commercial terrorists. Most probably won’t, because they don’t want to buckle down to intimidation any more than Albero will.

If people like Taylor were sincere in their rhetoric, you would think that they would be working hard to put out a product to rival SbyNEWS, and steal market share. Unable to do that, they resort to attempting to intimidate honest, hardworking businesspeople with a series of lies and threats. Ultimately, this may just be about jealousy:

If I cannot earn money from my Blog then neither is someone else I know.

Well Jonathan, first you need to put up a site that real people want to read. Second, you need to build an audience. Then, if you are lucky, perhaps people will want to pay you to advertise. I can promise you this - IF that ever occurs, I won’t be harassing the people who choose to spend their hard earned money on you. Of course, I’m not holding my breath for that to happen either.

Health-Care Mandates Could Be 'Null And Void'

A group of Americans who believe the federal government overstepped its constitutional bounds in passing the recent health-care legislation is rallying allies to a bold and controversial initiative: state nullification of the federal law.

"Now that health-care reform has been signed into law, the question people ask most is, 'What do we do about it?'" said Michael Boldin, founder of the Tenth Amendment Center, in a statement. "The status quo response includes lobbying Congress, marching on D.C., 'voting the bums out,' suing in federal court and more. But the last 100 years have proven that none of these really work, and government continues to grow year in and year out."

Instead, the Center is reaching back into the history books to suggest states take up "nullification," a controversial measure that would essentially involve states saying to the federal government, "Not in our borders, you don't. That law has no effect here."

The Center is partnering with WeRefuse.com to announce release of model nullification legislation for states, called the Federal Health Care Nullification Act, and a call for 100,000 Americans to join a state-by-state petition to prompt legislators into action.

Councilwoman Campbell Responds To Jerry Black Referencing Forbes Hall & Dave Suiter

Mr. Black –

I have profound respect for veterans and the sacrifices that they and their families have made to defend our country and our rights. My family has a long history of military service. My father served in the Army, my father-in-law was a Navy officer, my uncle served in Korea, and his brother flew missions over Germany. My son-in-law is a decorated Marine, having served two tours in Iraq. Many of my friends are veterans; some lost their lives serving our country. As a child, my classmates and I packed “care packages” for soldiers in Viet Nam. I have sent packages to soldiers in the Gulf War and Iraq. This year, I visited veterans at a local nursing home on Veteran’s Day with members of DAR to pay my respect.

The veterans that I know hold dear the laws of our country (and its municipalities). Those who I have spoken to regarding the issues related to the property at 505 Collins St. understand and respect that this is a zoning issue. The owner of the property applied for and received a permit to build a single-story, single-family home, as is permitted by law in an area zoned R-5.

Apparently, without proper authority and in violation of the zoning code (the law) a building was constructed for a purpose that is not permitted by law. According to officials in the Building Permits & Inspections Office, Mr. St. Fleur, the owner of the property was informed of this many times, including prior to applying for his permit. His application clearly states that he is building a single-family home, which is permitted in the R-5 district.

In addition to having great respect for veterans, I have great respect for the law. I have explored other options for allowing a veteran’s home to operate at 505 Collins St., without putting the city’s zoning code at risk for those who have lawfully occupied their properties. Since 505 Collins is not contiguous to any other properties that are zoned as anything other than R-5 single-family, and because spot-zoning is illegal, I have been told that those approaches are not possible. If you listen to the audio of the work session where this was discussed you will also hear the cautions of the city attorney. You can access the file at http://www.onyoursidesby.blogspot.com/ .

Perhaps you had not fact checked when you wrote your letter. I am validating my assertions by attaching copies of the permitting documents, which I obtained yesterday from the Building Permits and Inspections Department. These are public records. Perhaps you would like to go and view them yourself.

Additionally, I would like to know how you have reached the conclusion that I have had any involvement, in any way, associated with inspections of Mr. St. Fleur’s properties since the claim is categorically false.

I did suggest that Councilwoman Shields not participate in reaching consensus on the matter since she has a financial relationship with Mr. St. Fleur, which could be construed by the public as a conflict of interest. He is her landlord, a fact about which she has been vocal. There have been times when I have not participated in votes in order to avoid the risk or perception by the public that a conflict of interest could exist. This was, and still is, an appropriate request.

A portion of the letter that you distributed could be construed to encourage harmful acts “consequences” to be initiated against me or my family. This is very inappropriate and could be viewed as a threat. I am simply upholding my oath of office and the laws of our city.

As for your assertion that your letter was not intended to be made public is curious in light of the comments that you were making while circulating your petition at the festival this weekend.

You appear to be so intent upon locating your facility at 505 Collins St. that you may not be concerned that the building itself has been built in violation of the law. Nor, do you seem to understand the potential consequences to the integrity of the city’s zoning code that the city attorney has cautioned about.

Personalities must be removed from these matters. This is about zoning and the law. This is not much different than when a drug store chain wanted the zoning changed so that it could expand an existing commercial parcel into a residential area. The difference is that they asked and were told “no” before they proceeded in violation of the law. From all that I can ascertain from city officials and the official record (documents in the file), Mr. St. Fleur was fully aware of the zoning limitations on his building lot, yet still pursued a use not permitted by law. He can still use the structure as a single-family home. Salisbury can still have a veterans facility, but one that is located in one of the many zones where higher occupancy use is permitted by law.

Sincerely.

Mr. Albero

I would like to ask that this email be placed in your blog upon receipt.

Please allow me to apologize to your readers, Council Women Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen regarding the email that was published in your blog yesterday titled, “We Need All Hands On Deck.” The email in question was actually not to be released to the public at large but I failed to make that part known to my team. It was an internal email sent out to supporters and team members who are working hard to bring the first veteran transitional residential reintegration program to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Unfortunately and as will happen over highly charged issues such as this veterans program the email which I should have never written upon reflection made its way to Mr. David Suiter. I don’t blame him for his response he was acting on a very limited amount of information that by itself was taken out of context.

I can only ask your readers and to those whom this email has been addressed for their understanding...I am sure they too have all said things behind closed doors that would be very difficult if not impossible to explain if they got out in full or in part to the public...Add in the stress, resources and long hours that it takes to bring such a program to the area and well this time around I am the one with mud on my face.

I know that your readers have many questions regarding me, our proposed veterans program and my organization NATRA. Forbes Hall is a veteran education, training and service center and hopefully will be the first program of its kind serving veterans on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. If our proposed Text Amendment that was unanimously passed last month by the Planning and Zoning Committee gets the thumbs up at the City Council Vote next month it will be the culmination of almost two years of work and worry.

Therefore I am encouraging everyone who is interested in learning more about this issue to please attend the City Council Public Hearing on May 10th. There in full disclosure these questions can be addressed and the issues clearly defined.

Again I am very sorry and embarrassed over this situation...I pray that the discussion can move forward on the merits of this proposed veteran program and the issue of the zoning text amendment that we are bringing before the City Council.

Thank you,

Revealing the wholeness of you,

Jerry R Black
Executive Director
NATRA Inc.

Victim Detains Robber For Police

Location: Pantry 1 Food Mart, 2901 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware
Date and Time: Tuesday, April 20, 2010- 12:13 p.m.
Suspect(s): Shannon Harrison, 30, of Wilmington

Resume:
State Troopers got a little help in arresting a robbery suspect yesterday afternoon when a store clerk detained the bandit and a Wilmington Police Officer stepped in.

On Tuesday, April 20th, at approximately 12:13 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Pantry 1 Food Mart, 2901 Concord Pike in Wilmington. During this incident, Shannon Harrison entered the above business and approached the employee at the service counter. The suspected allegedly displayed what appeared to be a black colored handgun at the victim and demanded cash.

The clerk refused to comply and Harrison walked out of the store. The police were notified and the clerk went out after the suspect. The clerk then took Harrison to the ground and held him there until an off-duty Wilmington Police Officer, who was simply driving on Concord Pike, saw the struggle and intervened. He then detained Harrison while Troopers were responding.

DSP Officers arrived and took custody of the robbery suspect. He was found to have been in possession of an air-soft gun which was a replica handgun. Harrison was transported back to Troop 1 where he was formally charged with Attempted Robbery 1st (felony.

Shannon Harrison was committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of a $20,000.00 secured bond.

Medical Marijuana In DC Step Closer To Reality

Is it a coincidence that 4/20 falls during Earth Week, when everyone is encouraged to "go green"? And is it a coincidence that the D.C. Council decided to unanimously pass a bill to decriminalize medical marijuana on 4/20?

Either way, cannabis for the chronically ill is another step closer to becoming legal in the nation's capital. Reports the Washington Post:

"Without debate, the council authorized five medical marijuana distribution centers throughout the city, a number that could grow to eight in coming years. A patient who has HIV, glaucoma, cancer or a "chronic and lasting disease" will be able to receive a doctor's recommendation to possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana in a 30-day period."

Inhalant Abuse Remains A Danger

Fewer teens are getting high by inhaling common household products, but with 3,400 products available for dangerous "huffing," prevention efforts are still sorely needed, according to a new study released this week.

"The numbers are shocking," said Colleen Creighton, executive director of the Alliance of Consumer Education, a nonprofit group that fights inhalant abuse. "People will say it doesn't happen in my community, it isn't an issue. But it is."

The new study, which appeared in the latest issue of the medical journal Pediatrics, examined the National Poison Data System (NPDS) from 1993 to 2008. It found 35,453 cases in which a person was treated for intentional inhalant poisoning. In 208 cases, the person died.

While the number of annual cases declined over time by 33 percent, the study by Melinda R. Marsolek, Nicole C. White and Dr. Toby L. Litovitz showed inhalant abuse remains a serious problem, especially among young teens.

Of the 22,311 cases where the outcome was known, most were resolved in emergency rooms. However, about 10 percent of patients ended up in intensive care and another 8 percent were referred to psychiatric units.

The NPDS also found that some 3,400 different products were now being abused, or 2,000 more products than were reported in previous estimates.

Propellants — especially aerosol sprays used to clean computer keyboards or other dust-collecting furniture — were the most commonly abused products. Gasoline and paint were also frequently misused. Products with the highest fatality rates included butane, propane and air fresheners.

The reason people inhale noxious chemicals is because it can cause brief euphoria and "fun" sensations, anti-inhalant-abuse advocates say.

A public service ad by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America shows several teens laughing as they spin and stumble around in a grassy area at night. But one boy falls to the ground, and even though a girl shakes him and cries his name repeatedly, his face shows that he has already died.

Parents should warn their children that they die from inhalant abuse, the ad counsels. "Even the first time."

Next Bubble: $600 Trillion?

As interest rates begin to rise worldwide, losses in derivatives may end up bankrupting a wide range of institutions, including municipalities, state governments, major insurance companies, top investment houses, commercial banks and universities.

Defaults now beginning to occur in a number of European cities prefigure what may end up being the largest financial bubble ever to burst – a bubble that today amounts to more than $600 trillion.

The Bank of International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, now estimates derivatives – the complex bets financial institutions and sophisticated institutional investors make with one another on everything from commodities options to credit swaps – topped $604 trillion worldwide at the end of June 2009.

To comprehend the relative magnitude of derivative contracts globally, the CIA Factbook estimates the 2009 Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, of the world was just under $60 trillion.

Derivative contracts, therefore, have now reach a level 10 times world GDP, meaning even a 10 percent default in derivatives would equal world GDP.

Utah Tea Party: We've Taken Over The State GOP

In a surprising development that sets the stage for a dramatic political showdown, tea party and grass-roots conservatives tell Newsmax they have seized control of Utah's GOP delegate system, and are now in a position to select which candidates will represent the party in the midterm elections.

"Our feeling is that the majority of the Republican Party delegates are now tea party people," Brian Halladay, one of the founders of the grass-roots Utah Rising organization, tells Newsmax.

Utah GOP leaders say they can't be sure, but concede the activists' assessment may be accurate.

"I'm sure they have a very strong bloc, and they may have control," Dave Hansen, chairman of the Utah GOP, tells Newsmax. "But we won't know that until we get to the convention."

That sets the stage for Utah's May 8 GOP convention. The balloting will come in three waves.

The first ballot will winnow the current field of eight candidates down to three.

The second ballot will narrow the field to the top two.

The delegate count in the third ballot will determine whether either candidate can win 60 percent or more of the 3,500 delegates' votes. Any candidate attaining the 60 percent mark will automatically be the party's nominee.

If neither candidate reaches the 60 percent threshold, the two candidates will compete in a GOP-wide primary this summer.

A tea party takeover of Utah's GOP would appear to be particularly bad news for incumbent GOP Sen. Bob Bennett. Despite Bennett's conservative record, especially on social issues, many tea party leaders are not pleased with some of his positions and have openly campaigned to unseat him. They are especially displeased that Bennett initially supported the TARP bailouts, a program he has since tried to end.

Lieberman Call For Scrapping 'Virtual Fence'

Two senators said Tuesday it's time to consider ending a contract for a "virtual fence" along the U.S.-Mexico border, contending it doesn't stop illegal immigration.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., even suggested an old-fashioned, real fence may work better than the electronic one designed by Boeing Co.

"We're counting on you to give us a direct assessment and take action to either terminate the contract or take from it what may work," Lieberman told Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin.

Lieberman, chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said at a hearing on border security: "The best answer to this continuing crisis and continued flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. is to go back to the old-style fences, double- and triple-tiered, and layered."

Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., asked Bersin whether the contract could be canceled. Bersin said he was not able to render a judgment on a legal issue.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in March that she was halting funding to expand the virtual fence that originally was supposed to monitor most of the 2,000-mile southern U.S. border by 2011. It now covers only a portion of Arizona's boundary with Mexico.

The virtual fence is a network of cameras, ground sensors and radars designed to let a small number of dispatchers watch the border on a computer monitor, zoom in with cameras to see people crossing, and decide whether to send Border Patrol agents to the scene.

The fence was part of President George W. Bush's security plan.

Bersin said that the contractor has been unable to integrate the system to allow central monitoring of the border.

EHRLICH RECEIVES UNANIMOUS SUPPORT FROM GOP STATE LAWMAKERS

Annapolis-- Bob Ehrlich has received the unanimous support of Republican members of the Legislature in his campaign to be elected Governor of Maryland.

Every Republican in the House of Delegates and the State Senate signed letters endorsing Ehrlich as the Republican candidate for Governor. All 14 Republican members of the Senate, and all 37 Republicans in the House, voiced support for a new Ehrlich Administration.

“Republican members of the Maryland House of Delegates are ready for you to return fiscal responsibility to the State of Maryland and help create jobs for hard-working Marylanders,” the House members wrote.

“You put Maryland’s fiscal house in order and turned a $4 billion deficit into a $1 billion surplus…The current administration pushed through the largest tax increase in Maryland’s history, including a 20% increase in the sales tax. These tax increases have moved Maryland in the wrong direction,” the Senate letter said.

Former Governor Ehrlich has promised to cut taxes, and specifically to roll back the 20% increase in the sales tax as a means to stimulate job growth. He believes honestly balancing the budget and reducing the state’s high tax burden will encourage the creation of small business jobs that are the foundation of sustained economic strength and growth.

Governor Ehrlich welcomes the legislators’ expression of support. “I am grateful to my friends in the legislature for their confidence and their leadership,” Ehrlich said. “They share my commitment to helping the private sector create jobs, lowering the tax burden on working families, and getting government to spend within its means.”

RSC Update: Tuesday, April 20, 2010

From the Chairman

Senate Democrats hope to quickly pass financial regulatory legislation written primarily by Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) before the American people truly learn what’s in it. The provision to receive the most attention thus far is a $50 billion fund for bailing out firms that Washington considers too-big-to-fail (read more here), but it is by no means the only part of the package that enables future bailouts.

First, it codifies the “back door” bailouts used by the Federal Reserve to pump money into Bear Stearns, AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. Democrats claim the Fed would have to distribute this money through broad programs rather than to specific firms, but the reality is more complicated. Just like the backroom deals in ObamaCare, the Fed could structure the supposedly broad programs with so many caveats and requirements that only one targeted firm would ever actually be eligible for the money. Talk about Washington picking winners and losers.

As happened with AIG, Washington could also force taxpayers to book huge losses while a failed firm’s creditors and counterparties recoup far more of their investments (potentially 100%) than they would get in normal bankruptcy proceedings.

The FDIC would be able to guarantee a failing firm’s debt obligations without limitation and without approval from Congress. The Secretary of the Treasury, meanwhile, is authorized to purchase this debt (again without limit). Since there is no requirement that a firm bailed out in this manner be dismantled, taxpayers could be forced to prop up favored zombie banks for as long as Washington finds it politically expedient.

For all of these reasons, the Dodd bill is a permanent bailout bill. House Republicans, on the other hand, have a solution that eliminates the notion that any financial institution is too-big-to-fail, ends the bailouts, improves the financial regulatory structure and strengthens consumer protections.

Sincerely,

Congressman Tom Price

Outlook – Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.
· It is likely but not guaranteed that Senate Democrats will move to consider the Dodd financial bailout bill this week.

· The House is scheduled this week to consider the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act. It would increase the number of House seats to 437, one of which would be a permanent voting seat for the District of Columbia. While Congress has the authority to control DC legislatively, it only can do so within the confines of the Constitution. Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 was created specifically so that our nation’s capital would not be a state or have the legislative function of a state. As a result, many conservatives argue that this bill is unconstitutional.

RSC Reports
· Each week, the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce compiles a weekly report on the latest budget and spending news. Additionally, the RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

Orioles Baseball On The Radio

Joe,

What has happened to Orioles Baseball on the radio? The NEW 95.9 THE SPORTS ANIMAL was running Orioles baseball until just recently. I called the station and they told me that they are no longer affiliated with the Orioles. That doesn't make sense. How can you run two weeks of Orioles games and now you are no longer an Orioles affiliate. Did 95.9 drop the Orioles because they are off to a slow start? Last Sunday I turned them on and they were playing two things on the air at the same time. Not just for a few minutes, BUT ALL FRICKIN' DAY! I like the idea of having a sports station on FM, but they suck. Does anyone else carry the Orioles around here?

How Marines Welcome A President

It seems the US Marines know something that many of the civilian population do not ..

You've got to take 2 minutes to watch this comparison between George Bush's visit to the Marines vs. Obama's recent trip. It is incredible. There is word this will be removed from YouTube so go now. Pass it around quickly. Try to get this to people as it may not last long on YouTube. Obama's people are working hard to get it removed.

On 4/15/2010 I Susan Hastings received a phone call from Ms DJ about my son Scott stealing a pizza from the lunch room and I responded I will be right there. So my husband and I went right away when I got to the school we found Scott very upset in hallway we went in to a meeting with Ms DJ the sheriff bowers, Scott myself and his father. Ms DJ told us that Scott went threw the lunch line and got a pizza and and was being charged with theft. Because two minutes had past before he went back to pay for the pizza is the answer my husband and got from Ms DJ and the Sheriff. But Scott never left the lunch room and if I'm looking at this wrong please help me understand how do you steal something that you go back and pay for .

TROOPERS CATCH FLEEING GROCERY STORE ROBBERY SUSPECT

(Eldersburg, MD) – A “there when you needed him” Maryland state trooper confronted an armed robbery suspect as he fled a Carroll County grocery store late last night and, after a pursuit through several parking lots on foot and in vehicles, was able to arrest the man who is now in jail without bond.

The accused is identified as James K. Wilcox, 45, of the 2800-block of Kaywood Place, Sykesville, Md. He is charged with armed robbery, robbery, theft under $1,000, reckless endangerment, making a bomb threat, two counts of second degree assault, and malicious destruction of property. He is currently incarcerated in the Carroll County Detention Center without bond.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. yesterday, state troopers from the Westminster Barracks were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call for an armed robbery in progress at the Safeway store, located in the 1300-block of Londontown Blvd., in Eldersburg. The caller stated the suspect said he had a bomb and was running from the store.

The first trooper was on the scene within seconds and saw the suspect, later identified as Wilcox, running from the store carrying a cash register drawer. The trooper pursued him on foot and caught him as he was getting into his 1973 red Chevrolet pickup truck. A struggle ensued and Wilcox refused repeated commands to surrender. He was able to get the truck started and the trooper let go of Wilcox as he accelerated away.

A pursuit continued through several shopping center parking lots in the area. Wilcox’s truck stalled in the Home Depot parking lot and troopers were able to surround him. As he was pulled from his truck, the cash register drawer fell out and troopers spotted a cylinder with multiple protruding wires, a battery and a clock. After being arrested and placed in a patrol car, Wilcox kicked the windshield causing it to crack in multiple places.

Deputies from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were called and responded to the scene to examine the device found in the truck. They determined Wilcox had a device that resembled a bomb, but was not a working explosive device.

Investigators from the Westminster Barracks Criminal Investigation Section and State Police crime scene technicians responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates Wilcox entered the store just after 10:00 p.m. and went to the counter by the store office, where he confronted a store employee and demanded money and access to the office. He then pushed his way into the office and confronted another employee again demanding money and stating he had a bomb.

Wilcox was able to obtain a cash register drawer that contained cash, postage stamps and several checks. All the stolen items were recovered when Wilcox was arrested.

Maryland State Police investigators have spent today obtaining and serving search warrants in Howard and Carroll counties as part of their continuing investigation. Additional charges against Wilcox are possible.

Delaware State Police will participate in International Law Enforcement Re-Accreditation Process

Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive May 3, 2010 and spend several days examining all aspects of the Delaware State Police policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.

The Delaware State Police was originally accredited in 1988 and re-accredited in 1993, 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007. Maintaining this status is an on-going process and requires constant monitoring and updating of policies and procedures to assure that the Delaware State Police meet the Commission’s standards. Re-accreditation is a formal recognition of the agency’s professional excellence.

The Delaware State Police was the first law enforcement agency in Delaware to receive International Law Enforcement Accreditation. There are over 600 accredited agencies in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Barbados.

As part of the on-site assessment, a toll-free telephone number has been established to invite agency employees and members of the public to offer comments to the assessment team. The public may call (800) 993-9133 on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 12:00 Noon.

The Delaware State Police must comply with 460 law enforcement accreditation standards in order to achieve re-accreditation. The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals and visit the various Troops and Sections throughout the state where compliance can be observed.

The assessors are Inspector Sherry Lang, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Marion Vandergrift, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of our agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then determine if the agency is to be granted re-accredited status.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Delaware State Police’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) at 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215 or call (800) 368-3757; attention: Ms. Maya Mitchell, Program Manager.

3rd Graders Are Very Special

After all the bad press over a few teachers who stepped out of line teaching songs to our children, this one is one you will be so proud to hear. At the end of the song you can order the sheet music.

Awesome. I hope this sweeps our country and gets sung in all our schools. The music teacher wrote the song and had all the third graders sing. Enjoy -- great message.
