DelDOT The Victim In Criminal Mischief Case In Bear

Location: Route 896 and Howell School Road, Bear, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time: Monday, October 26, 2009, at 1:45 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively

Suspect(s): Unknown

Resume: The Delaware State Police needs the publics’ help with this one…

Yesterday afternoon, at 1:45 p.m., DelDOT technicians received a failure notification from the fiber optic cable lines located at Route 896 and Howell School Road. This disabled DelDOT’s ability to communicate with the traffic signals in the area.

While officials were sorting this issue out, around 3:00 p.m., another failure was received from this same location. This time, the signal was triggered by a power failure.

Officials responded to the scene and found that someone has purposely cut a fiber optic cable and power lines. Both of these severed lines are located underground and were accessed, by the suspect, via lifting a ground level concrete cover.

The damaged fiber optic cable was located at the intersection. Because of its diameter, the person who cut it had to use an industrial sized tool. The power line was located approximately 70’ away from the intersection. Because it was smaller, a smaller tool could have been used to sever it.

The damage has been estimated at approximately $8,000.00. Signals in the area were out of commission for several hours while the damage was repaired. No traffic crashes were reported in the area at this time.

Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh says, “This was a deliberate act by someone who not only damaged DelDOT property, buy who also put lives in danger when the traffic signals went down without warning.”

There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone with details pertaining to this case is asked to call Troop 9 at 302.378.5218 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.

Shell Gas Station Robbery Update

Yesterday we also posted THIS ARTICLE referencing two other robberies in Salisbury. One at the Royal Farms Store and the other at the Shell Gas Station.

Salisbury News Insiders have come to learn the Salisbury Police Department will produce a Press Release some time tomorrow, (surely making tomorrows Daily Times) referencing an arrest in this case.

We want to thank our readers for getting involved and calling the SPD & Crime Solvers with tips and helping the SPD close this case. While everyone knows Chief Webster refuses to send any information to Salisbury News, we took the liberty of borrowing the images from their Website and posting them on Salisbury News, being confident the case would get cracked almost instantly and it worked, once again.

Salisbury News Readers have played a huge role in solving multiple crimes throughout Maryland and Delaware and we simply want to thank all of you for getting involved. Getting these thugs with weapons off the street is more important than anything else. Hopefully Chief Webster, (in the future) will choose to work with Salisbury News directly in order to get these people off the street faster, sending us these images rather than our having to search them out. Getting guns and hard criminals off the street would only make him look good, not bad. That's just my opinion, of course.

Who Is Charles Truitt

Yesterday we posted these images and someone came back in comments stating, "Your suspect is Charles Truitt, This info was provided to SPD and MSP and they said the detectives will be in the next morning."
There is no Charles Truitt on the Eastern Shore in this age group. If this person goes by another name, please contact the Sheriff's Department and fill them in with more details. You also posted a similar comment on another article. Your further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Vovak Asks Uncapher To Resign From GOP Nominating Committee

BETHESDA, MARYLAND – The Maryland Republican Convention on November 14, 2009 will probably be the most festive convention since the mid-Nineteenth Century, when the Republicans overthrew the Whigs to seize power in Maryland. Following the resignation of embattled Chairman James Pelura, Daniel "The Whig Man" Vovak has called for the resignation of the chairman of the Republican Nominating Committee, following a lapse in Mark Uncapher's ethics.

Uncapher holds two chairmanships within the Maryland Republican Party. Foremost, he is the chairman of the nominating committee for the next chairman. Secondly, he is the chairman of the Montgomery County Central Committee. Uncapher's primary job is to facilitate the process for about 270 central committeemen to elect the next chairman, who will be: Daniel Vovak, Chris Cavey, or Audrey Scott. However, Vovak has alleged that Uncapher is acting unethically by writing a letter of support for Audrey Scott, in spite of being the person who should be neutral in the process. Regardless, he believes Uncapher should continue as Montgomery County Chairman.

"Mark Uncapher's job is to find nominees, not to hand-pick them," says Vovak, a movie producer and ghostwriter in Bethesda. "Since Uncapher is in charge of the nominating committee I asked him today to write a letter of nomination for me and he said he will only support Audrey Scott. My position is that Uncapher should support all candidates who want to be chairman or he should support no one. It is absolutely unethical for the chairman of the nominating committee to single out a specific candidate while pretending to be neutral with the others. If Uncapher feels so strongly about Audrey Scott then he needs to resign because he is definitely not a neutral arbitrator."

The rules of the Party require a chairman-nominee to provide three nomination letters from committeemen in three different counties to be submitted to the nominating committee for vote by the whole committee. On Tuesday, Vovak asked Uncapher for his nomination letter and was flatly denied it. Uncapher's bias extends to the website for the Montgomery County Republicans, which lists only Audrey Scott as a candidate for chairman, but not Chris Cavey or himself. (See ATTACHED.)

"It's issues like this that frustrate me as a Republican," says Vovak. "The next chairman needs to raise funds and stop airing our dirty laundry."

Vovak can be contacted at 202-367-4835 or DanielVovak@gmail.com.

Redskins Litigants Win Support From Psychologists, Justice Advocates

By Rob Capriccioso

WASHINGTON – Native American plaintiffs suing to end the trademark of the controversial Redskins National Football League team have gained new support from legal experts, social justice advocates and child psychologists.

One notable amicus brief to the plaintiffs’ September U.S. Supreme Court petition was filed in mid-October by a group of renowned researchers in the social sciences fields, including experts in the areas of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination.

Based on scholarly evidence, the experts told the court there is “extensive and pervasive” public harm caused by the continued use of Indian mascots in professional sports.“

Social science research shows that the use of ethnic slurs like ‘redskin’ perpetuates harmful stereotypes and leads to discrimination,” the authors of the brief wrote.

Many of the researchers work at the top universities in the country.

Tribal citizens have long noted that the “redskins” term has historically been used as a derogatory reference to American Indians, in a similar way that the word “nigger” has been wrongly used toward blacks.

Historically, the word “redskins” was also used by the U.S. government as a way to refer to bounties it placed on scalped Indian heads, according to historians and legal experts.

The psychology scholars added that the affects of American Indian sports mascots are especially harmful to Native youth, tending to lower the self-esteem of Indian children and young adults.Along those lines, they cited studies showing that exposure to Indian sports mascots depress the self-esteem and feelings of community worth and limit the aspirations of Native high school and college students.

The psychologists’ arguments weren’t the only new unique avenue of support.A group of social justice advocacy experts also added an amicus brief in mid-October that said the Redskins trademark sets back progress and equality in American society.

“The social justice interests involved in this case go far beyond Native Americans. Either a trademark is disparaging or it is not. And if it is, it should not enjoy the perpetual protections of the United States government.”

They went on to make the case that the Redskins trademark is disparaging, and they noted, too, that numerous schools and other groups have removed offensive Native American team names in recent years.A third amicus brief filed in October came from the National Congress of American Indians and several other Indian advocacy organizations.

The group said the Redskins’ trademark is disparaging not only to petitioners individually, but to all Native American people and should never have been registered.

All the support stems from a September legal petition filed by a group of Native Americans who asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear their case calling for an end to the trademark of the Redskins team name and logo.

The petition requested that the high court review a lower court decision that sided against the Native Americans based on a statute of limitations-based legal concept known as laches – which the petition asserts is not applicable in this case.

It argued, too, that there is precedent for overturning the lower court’s statute of limitations-based decision, including a Third Circuit decision made by Samuel A. Alito, a current justice on the high court.

While laches makes for an interesting legal argument for lawyers and judges to ponder, it doesn’t necessarily resound on an emotional level, some legal experts have said.

The amicus briefs help fill that gap.Richard Guest, a legal expert with the Native American Rights Fund, said the multi-pronged support briefs create more ways for the public to understand the arguments of the Indian plaintiffs.

“It becomes not just a legal argument, but a moral and psychological one, too.”

Philip Mause, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said the briefs are persuasive.

“The psychology professors’ brief goes into an issue that we are learning more and more about: The harm to young American Indians involving mascots,” said Mause, a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath in D.C.

“It’s new information and an important new development. It’s very helpful.”He said all the briefs add to the debate and help strengthen the plaintiffs’ case.Still, Mause noted, the Supreme Court chooses to hear very few cases, so it’s an “uphill battle.”

In a reply brief to the plaintiffs’ petition to the high court, the Redskins lawyers argued that laches is applicable.

Gas Prices in Salisbury JUMP

WaWa on Route 13 South and Ohio Avenue just jumped their regular unleaded gas price to $2.77 per gallon. Royal Farms on Route 13 North and Main Street remains at $2.59 per gallon. If you need gas now would be the time to run out and fill up before it jumps 18 cents a gallon today. Sams Club is $2.55 per gallon.

Why Is Maryland and Local Government Taking Property OFF of the Tax Rolls?

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley can’t seem to balance a budget.  Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt can’t seem to either.  The other night Pollitt appeared on Phil Tilghman’s PAC-14 show and argued (AGAIN) that we need a “grassroots movement” to end the dreadful revenue cap.

As someone opposed to the cap on principle I’m willing to listen to such arguments.  However, I find it very difficult to take people like Pollitt seriously when local officials are hell bent on giving Wicomico taxpayers back door tax increases while the cap is in place.  If anything, such behavior is evidence that the cap should NEVER be repealed.

What am I talking about?  I’m referring to the recent acquisition of the Powerwave property east of Salisbury by the Tri-County Council of the Lower Eastern Shore.  While O’Malley claims the state is broke, Maryland bureaucrats are able to hand out multi-million dollar grants to take property OFF of the county tax rolls.

When Pollitt and his cohorts on the Wicomico County Council whine about the revenue cap you need to ask yourself how much more money the county would have to spend (some may say “waste”) if they didn’t support taking taxable land off of the tax rolls.

Life After Death

As many of you know I lost my Mother to cancer recently. This past weekend her five children met at her home in Annapolis and cleared out her estate. While the beginning wasn't easy, it turned into memory lane and the laughs continued for two straight days.

As many of you have experienced a death in your Family, I thought I'd share some of the arguments we shared while dividing up Mom's things. You see, the Albero Family continues to prove that if you're raised right, greed is the furthest thing from your mind.

I walked in and saw certain piles being started. I didn't know who's piled belonged to, so I simply asked, hey guys, who's taking this picture? My oldest brother Frank replied, well, I was thinking about taking it. Why, do you want it Joe. I said, nah, if you're taking it it's fine with me. Frank replied, no, seriously, if you want it you're more than welcome to take it. Again, I replied, that's OK Frank.

The entire experience went just like that. No one got mad. No one was selfish and not one of us went home after all was said and done with more than what you could carry in your own hands in one trip back to your car. The rest was all donated and recycled for someone else in need.

The title of this Post, "Life After Death" has a meaning. You see, Mom passed away on a Tuesday and Wednesday Jennifer's Son Graham enjoyed the Birth of his first Son, Guage. I think that's how they spelled his name, I'm not exactly sure though. People come up with the craziest names these days and then they spell them all screwed up too. Nevertheless, while we mourned one, we celebrated another. That's just how life works. So we're Grandparents for the second time and we couldn't be more excited.

I hope others can learn from our estate experience. Mom never put anything together saying who gets what because she knew she raised us in such a way, she didn't have to. Material items are just that, items. I'd say we kept 5% of Mom's things, more for memory sake and 95% went to others. My Grandmother told me once after I had lost some money in New York, "Someone needed it more than you did Joe." She's right.

Church Of Scientology Guilty Of Fraud In France

Judge cites ‘obsession’ with financial gain as group is fined $400,000

PARIS
- A Paris court on Tuesday convicted the Church of Scientology of fraud and fined it more than half a million euros — but stopped short of banning the group as requested by prosecutors.

The group's French branch immediately announced it would appeal the verdict.

The court convicted the Church of Scientology's French office, its library and six of its leaders of fraud. Investigators said the group pressured members into paying large sums of money for questionable financial gain and used "commercial harassment" against recruits.

Microsoft Drops Windows 7 Promotion At Fox

An unusual show by Family Guy's creator was to plug the new Windows operating system, but it may have proven too edgy for Microsoft
Just two weeks after Microsoft (MSFT) announced an innovative marketing partnership with News Corp.'s (NWS) Fox Network, the software giant has pulled its sponsorship of the deal's centerpiece: a 30-minute, commercial-free variety show by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, which was to promote the new Windows 7 operating system. Microsoft cited problems with the content of the show, which was supposed to air on Fox at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
"We initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of Family Guy," wrote a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement. "But after reviewing an early version of the variety show, it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand."

Obama Warns Of Tough Health Care Battle Ahead

President says that major industries will fight hard to preserve their profits

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama said an overhaul of the U.S. health care system is closer than ever, but he warned of tough battles ahead as major industries such as insurance companies fight hard to preserve their profits.

Obama made his remarks Monday night at a pair of Democratic Party fundraisers in Miami.

He spoke a few hours after Senate leaders endorsed legislation that would add a government-run health insurance plan for Americans, with states having the right to opt out. Obama did not mention the Senate action, but he predicted success in realizing his top domestic policy priority.

Record Day

Not to be long winded but yesterday brought on yet another record day for Salisbury News. I'm quite surprised, actually. When I looked at the numbers around 10:00 AM, (honestly) I thought, this is going to be one of the slowest days I've seen in at least a year.

Low and behold, I stayed away from Site Meter in fear of having to slowly watch the numbers gradually go up and that just wasn't worth it. So I waited until this morning to see the report and BAM!

Boy those Bank Robberies sure do help business/volume/hits. That's my guess, anyway. It didn't hurt being the first one out there with the news either.

Today I meet with the television station owner and so far, as long as I keep it one day a week, I think we can manage fitting it into our schedule and we'll move forward, (should all the terms and conditions also fit our wants and needs) and deliver a once a week TV Show. I did appreciate ALL of the comments and quite frankly I agreed with the one comment from the person living outside the viewing area. I will also consider providing at least a one day a week show right here on Salisbury News, if not 5 days a week.

Mind you, I have absolutely no clue at all if I'll be worthy of television. A lot has to be discussed as to the style, format and information we'll be going after but I'm sure it will be based on the biggest story of the week. Time will tell. Thanks for visiting and we'll keep you posted.

Anatomy Of A Passing Hysteria.

America’s Obama Obsession
by Victor Davis Hanson
National Review Online

For 30 months the nation has been in the grip of a certain Obama obsession, immune to countervailing facts, unwilling to face reality, and loath to break the spell. But like all trances, the fit is passing, and we the patient are beginning to appreciate how the stupor came upon us, why it lifted, and what its consequences have been.

How Obama Won

Barack Obama was elected rather easily because, in perfect-storm fashion, five separate trends coalesced last autumn.

1) Obama was eloquent, young, charismatic — and African-American. He thus offered voters a sense of personal and collective redemption, as well as appealing to the longing for another JFK-New Frontier figure. An image, not necessarily reality, trumped all.

2) After the normal weariness with eight years of an incumbent party and the particular unhappiness with Bush, the public was amenable to an antithesis. Bush was to be scapegoat, and Obama the beginning of the catharsis.

3) Obama ran as both a Clintonite centrist and a no-red-state/no-blue-state healer who had transcended bitter partisanship. That assurance allowed voters to believe that his occasional talk of big change was more cosmetic than radical.

4) John McCain ran a weak campaign that neither energized his base nor appealed to crossover independents. McCain turned off conservatives; many failed to give money, and some even stayed home on election day. Meanwhile, the media and centrists who used to idolize McCain’s non-conservative, maverick status found Obama the more endearing non-conservative maverick.

5) The September 2008 financial panic turned voters off Wall Street and the wealthy, and allowed them to connect unemployment and their depleted home equity and 401(k) retirement plans with incumbent Republicans. In contrast, they assumed that Obama, as the anti-Bush, would not do more bailouts, more stimuli, and more big borrowing.

Take away any one of those factors, and Obama might well have lost. Imagine what might have happened had Obama been a dreary old white guy like John Kerry; or had Bush’s approvals been over 50 percent; or had Obama run on the platform he is now governing on; or had McCain crafted a dynamic campaign; or had the panic occurred in January 2009 rather than September 2008. Then the trance would have passed, and Obama, the Chicago community organizer and three-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, would have probably lost his chance at remaking America.

Obama’s Assumptions

I note all this at length because Obama seems to act as if this center-right country — one that polls oppositely to his positions on most of the major issues (deficits, spending, nationalized healthcare, homeland security, Guantanamo, cap-and-trade, etc.) — has given him a mandate for a degree of change not seen in nearly 80 years.

Apparently, Team Obama figured that with sizable majorities in both the House and the Senate, Obama would snap his fingers, Congress daily would pass bills redefining America, and Obama would stay in perpetual campaign mode to hope and change the country to accept his agenda. Governing would be like campaigning, as audiences fainted hearing the details of a 1,500-page healthcare bill or of ever more sins from America’s past.

But, after just a few months in office, that proved not to be the case. Just as a number of planets had to line up precisely to allow an inexperienced hard-left ideologue to be elected president, so there would have had to be a similar configuration to allow him to govern successfully.

Bitter Truths

1) Obama had to match his unity rhetoric with brotherly action. In fact, he has done the opposite.

At one time or another, Obama and his supporters have, rather scurrilously, insulted doctors, insurers, the police, tea-partiers and town-hallers, opponents of his healthcare plan, non-compliant members of the media, and a host of other groups as either greedy, dishonest, treasonous, unpatriotic, mob-like, racist, or in general worthy of disrespect.

Fewer and fewer Americans now believe that Obama — after just nine months of governance — is a uniter. In Obama’s world, doctors carve out children’s tonsils for profit, racist morons rant at legislators about losing their private healthcare, and trillions in borrowed money must be paid back by the greedy rich whose capital was unearned in the first place.

When his base supporters lambaste him for softness, they are lamenting his inability to become an effective partisan — not a lack of partisanship in general. In surreal fashion, liberals demand that the ideologue Obama become more ideological precisely at the time his ideologically driven agenda is souring millions of non-ideological Americans.

2) His opposition is no longer ossified, but decentralized and grass roots. One of the oddest proofs of that statement is the sudden leftist furor at tea parties, town halls, the media, dissent, and free speech. As long as Obama was opposed by calcified Republicans in Congress, there was no real danger to him. But once the opposition proved populist, panicked liberal elites started demonizing populism — and Obama now finds himself opposed to the popular grievance-mongering that was once the mother’s milk of our Chicago organizer’s existence.

3) Obama campaigned on the notion that even if voters might not like his policies, they most assuredly would like him. Even that spell is now lifting. The more the American public gets to know Barack Obama, the less they find him appealing.

On matters racial, their campaign-season unease with his connection to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his toss-offs like “typical white person,” and his stereotyping of rural Pennsylvanians has not been allayed; rather, it has been amplified by Eric Holder’s Justice Department, Obama’s own statement that the Cambridge police acted “stupidly” in arresting Professor Gates, and the use of the race card by prominent Democrats from the likes of Rep. Charles Rangel to Gov. David Paterson of New York.

Much of the newly stirred public suddenly assumes two things from the Obama administration: that the president himself will periodically say something racially insensitive or unwise; and that his supporters will call opponents of his policies racist. If we have wearied of all that in nine months, think what four years of it will do to the public mood.

In just nine months the phrase “Chicago style” has gone from something old-time that evokes Al Capone or Mayor Daley to something very real, contemporary, and scary — as David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett, and others try to strong-arm the opposition, demonize the media, and manipulate government largesse to either penalize or reward recipients on the basis of their degree of support for Obama.

Could the most imaginative right-wing political operative have invented the idea of a National Endowment for the Arts official gleefully considering quid pro quo grants, administration officials trying to persuade other media outlets that a network critical of Obama is “not a news organization,” or an administration communications director bragging about how her team sandbagged the American media and took them to the cleaners? We can believe there might be one statement like Van Jones’s slander of “white people,” or Sonia Sotomayor’s “wise Latina” boast, or Anita Dunn’s lengthy praise of the mass-murdering Mao, but not an entire series of them. At some point, the American public snaps out of it, and sighs, “Wow, these people really are nuts!”

4) “Bush did it” was the I.V. drip of the Obama campaign, always there to infuse a fresh life-saving excuse into every Obama fainting spell. But the problem now is that it has been more than nine months since Bush left office, and Obama’s “mop up” metaphors are getting stale. Worse still, the reasons the public soured on Bush are precisely the reasons it may well sour more on Obama, inasmuch as he took Bush’s problems like deficits, soaring federal spending, bailouts, and unemployment and made them far worse.

Yet Obama has given no credit for the good that Bush did, and therefore must remain mum about the other “Bush Did It”s, like quiet in Iraq; the homeland-security protocols, from renditions and tribunals to wiretaps and intercepts; AIDS relief for Africa; friendly governments in Britain, France, Germany, India, and Italy; and domestic safety since 9/11. If Bush is at least partly responsible for all these things as well, were they therefore bad?

Now What?

Obama very soon is going to have to make a tough choice, far tougher than his current “present” votes on the option of sending additional troops to Afghanistan.

As the midterm elections near, and his popularity bobs up and down around 50 percent, Obama can do one of two things.

He could imitate Bill Clinton’s 1995 Dick Morris remake. In Obama’s case, that would mean, abroad, cutting out the now laughable apologies for his country, ceasing to court thugs like Ahmadinejad, Chávez, and Putin, keeping some distance from the U.N., and paying closer attention to our allies like Britain and Israel. At home, he could declare victory on his sidetracked agenda and then start over by holding spending in line, curbing the deficit, stopping the lunatic Van Jones–style czar appointments, courting the opposition, and tabling cap-and-trade. I think there is very little chance of any of the above, whatever voters may have thought during the campaign.

Or, instead, Obama could hold the pedal to the floor on the theory that, as a proven ideologue, he must move the country far left before the voters catch on and stop him in his tracks in November 2010. That would mean more of the “gorge the beast” effort to spend and borrow so much that taxes have to soar, and thus redistribution of income will be institutionalized for a generation. He would push liberal proposals no matter how narrow the margin in the Senate. He would keep demonizing Fox News. In Nixonian fashion he might continue to hit the stump, ratcheting up his current “they’re lying” message and energizing his left-wing base by catering to the unions, gays, minorities — and liberal Wall Street special interests.

If he chooses the former, he might well be a more successful version of Bill Clinton given that his appetites are far more in check.

But if, as is likely, he chooses the latter, he will polarize the country in a way not seen since 1968, set back racial relations to the 1960s, do to the reputation of big government what LBJ did from 1964 to 1968, and, in the manner of what Jimmy Carter wrought, turn voters off liberal foreign policy for a generation.

Health Care Control And Profits

HEALTH CARE REFORM SEEKS CONTROL, NOT COMPETITION
INSURANCE COMPANIES PROFITS HALF OF HEINZ FOODS

Today Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced the public option would be included in the Senate's HealthCare Plan in order to promote COMPETITION. WRONG, it is all about CONTROL. Control of your life, control of your health, control of your children/grandchildren, and control and acquisition of your finances.

COMPETITION in the sale of health insurance policies can be achieved by a single sentence. Allow insurance companies to sell policies across state lines. Done. That's it. No need for 1400 pages and the destructuion of the health care system. But this is all about CONTROL.

Senator John Kerry then added to the fray by again bashing the insurance companies' profits as obscene. Just how offensive to prevailing concepts of decency are insurance company profits?

Insurance companies rank low at the bottom of the list- 2.1%

As Charles Krautheimer stated, the Dems are rarely concerned with fact so this probably won't matter, but Mr. Kerry's wife's company, Heinz, earned profits TWICE that of the insurance companies. So Mr. Kerry should really not be speaking out on anyone's 'obscene' profit.

Missing Words

SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS?

THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED OBSERVER:

Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I'm a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of 'the greatest war,' with their families. It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.

On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words

President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:

Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.

One elderly woman read the words aloud:

'With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.'

But as she read, she was suddenly angry. 'Wait a minute,' she said, 'they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with 'so help us God.'

Her husband said, 'You are probably right. We're not supposed to say things like that now.'

'I know I'm right,' she insisted. 'I remember the speech.' The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.

Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, 'Well, it has been over 50 years; she's probably forgotten.'

But she had not forgotten. She was right.

I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading --- 'Flags of Our Fathers' by James Bradley. It's all about the battle at Iwo Jima.

I haven't gotten too far in the book. It's tough to read because it's a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.

But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt's speech to the nation ends in 'so help us God.'

The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war! But they couldn't fool the people who were there. Roosevelt's words are engraved on their hearts.

Now I ask: 'WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF HISTORY?'

Send this around to your friends. People need to know before everyone forgets.

People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation since the beginning. He still wants to be...and He always will be!

THE FOUNDING FATHERS

When Conservatives bring up the United States Constitution and the inspired men who wrote it, those, on the left, will say those were different times and have no meaning today. I doubt they have studied what the Founding Fathers had to say and how their common sense, and brilliance, is eternal. No less a Democrat Icon than, John F. Kennedy, had this to say about Thomas Jefferson, a founding father that is hailed as a founder of the Democrat party.. In 1962 while welcoming 49 Nobel Prize winners to the White House, he said, - "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever been gathered in the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

There are six others that are most noteworthy, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton who have no equals in the history of this country. All they did was to establish a country, a banking system, establish a system of laws, and form a base for foreign policy. All of which are still part of our every day lives. These are only the seven most influential of the founding fathers. While there have been many other great Americans, none can claim accomplishments that rival these men.

A brilliant mind can not only adapt itself to any set of circumstances, but these men also were able to foresee what perils lie in the future. For 150 years subsequent Presidents and Congress' followed what they had laid out. The Country grew and prospered (with some bumps) then politicians started tinkering with the Supreme law of the land. As the saying goes, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I guess one can say some things worked out well, but when one looks at the debt run up since 1932, when the Roosevelt administration came into office, the debt was $19.5 Billion. The National debt is now$13.3 Trillion and rising. One might conclude that even when things work, we can't afford them. It can't be all Bush's fault and maybe the Founding Fathers were smarter than Liberals give them credit for.

Motorists Beware: Drunk Driving Will Not Be Tolerated!

Don’t Let Halloween Turn into a Horror Story

Salisbury Maryland—Halloween is a much-loved fall tradition that is enjoyed by people of all ages. But irresponsible celebrating can quickly spoil all of the fun. That is why state and local law enforcement is cracking down on drunk drivers with an aggressive Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. enforcement blitz.

“With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, we want to make sure revelers aren’t taking the party to the roadways, putting trick-or-treaters and responsible motorists at risk,” said Wicomico Sheriff Mike Lewis. “Law enforcement officers throughout the region will be out in full force arresting and removing drunk drivers from our roads.”

Halloween is a particularly deadly night due to drunk drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008, 58 percent of all highway fatalities across the nation on Halloween night (6 pm Oct. 31 to 5:59 am Nov. 1) involved a driver or a motorcycle rider with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, which is illegal in every state.

“One foolish decision can turn a fun Halloween into a real-life horror story,” said Sheriff Lewis. “There are simple precautions partygoers can take such as designating a sober driver in advance or taking a taxi.”

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office also recommends these simple tips:

Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;

Before drinking, please designate a sober driver;

If you’re impaired, and haven't designated a sober driver, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely;

If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement;

The Wicomico County School System and the Wicomico County Health Department are working together to offer the H1N1 intranasal vaccine to Wicomico elementary students. Consent forms for the H1N1 vaccine have already gone home to some elementary parents/guardians, and students whose parents sign and return the consent form will receive the vaccination free on the day that their school’s clinic is scheduled. Through the 2009 seasonal intranasal vaccination effort by the Wicomico County Health Department and Wicomico County Public Schools, more than 2,200 students K-5 were vaccinated against the seasonal flu between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1. As of last week, the Health Department had gotten a total of 1,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine, including the intranasal vaccine and the traditional injectable version. Priority is being given to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified target groups which include children, parents of children under 6 months old, pregnant women, medical and emergency first responders, and adults with underlying medical conditions. Dates for the school H1N1 vaccination clinics will be posted on the Wicomico County Health Department website at www.wicomicohealth.org, and on the Public Health Information Line, at 410-543-6943, as soon as the H1N1 vaccine arrives and clinic schedules are determined. Information on H1N1 news, prevention tips and clinics is posted at

I find it amusing that BHO kids aren’t getting the vaccine because they aren’t in a risk group and supply reasons. There seems to be plenty a vaccine going around here.

Stranded

A man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around,he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island.

After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset.

One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance.

As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it.

But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man took his arm from around the sheep.

After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but there was no more cuddling..

A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck.
The only survivor was Nancy Pelosi .

That evening, the man brought Nancy to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful evening - red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze - perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the man started to get 'those feelings' again..

He fought the urges as long as he could but he finally gave in and leaned over to Nancy and told her he hadn't had sex for months.

Nancy batted her eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do for him.

He said, 'Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?'

Scam II

Off point but have a sad sob story. These people going around giving sad stories about they need gas money or needed money to get a fan belt, well I have one. It just happened at 11pm last night. I walked out of the Seaford Wal-Mart and got in my car when a white male came up to my window. He asked if I could help him. I said sure. He said he needed gas money. I asked him "what are you doing in the parking lot and at 11pm?" He said he was at a friend’s house and lives in Harrington but ran out of gas on the way back home. I asked him “why are you in the parking lot, can’t your friend give you money?” He said “look, I need a few dollars to get home if you can’t help me then just leave.” He told me to leave! I watched him walk to his car and get in. I pulled around behind his car and wrote down the description and tag number down and called the Seaford PD. While on the phone, he began to drive away quickly. I started to follow him. He turned south bond on RT 13 instead of north towards Harrington where he claimed he lived. He stayed in the left lane until he was approx 50 feet from the stop light where Tru Blu gas station is and he made a quick right turn to go in the parking lot. I turned around and saw him get out of the car and began to walk in circles with his arms up to the sky as if he was praying. I told the dispatcher this and said you guys are going to have fun with this character. At that time, Seaford PD arrived and I left. I have seen this man before walking around the parking lot but it was at Roses and I’m sure he has been doing this for a while. He is approx 6 foot tall, scruffy short beard, approx 40 to 45 years old. He weighed about 200 to 220 pounds. He drove a silver 4 door older Chevrolet Caprice with DE reg 93300. Watch for this guy. I would have taken a pic of him but it was too dark.

WORCESTER COUNTY MEETING:

The Tuesday October 27th meeting is scheduled for 7:30 PM at the Ocean Pines Community Center. Because this is our first meeting at that location, and because there is a group using the meeting room immediately before us, there may be a little confusion getting started. In the future - - once we get into a routine - - things will run smoothly.

If we had stayed at the library we risked that the meeting would be totally disrupted due to the branch manager counting heads and possibly shutting us down - - fire code allows 99, we had over one hundred and anticipate more for this meeting. The manager made it perfectly clear to us that she would do so if we exceeded the fire code capacity. It's not as simple as 'standing room only'.

Of course we could have taken a chance that attendance would drop, but if it didn't drop the branch manager would be required to turn people away at the library door. If folks come all the way from Pocomoke or Snow Hill and the library manager tells them "sorry, we are full", that would not be good.

So because we were worried about turning people away and felt it best to relocate to the larger facility, the next concern was that news releases and letters to the editor indicated the library as the meeting location and it was too late to publish changes - - that meant folks not on our e-mail list would be showing up at the library on the 27th. To address this concern, the logical thing to do was to have the meeting at the CC on the same night and assign someone to be at the library to direct folks to the new location.

But keeping the meeting date the 27th (for the reasons above) resulted in the need for another change - - we want our meetings to start at 6:30, but due to CC scheduling we had no choice but to take the 7:30 slot.

In any event, our meeting in November is already reserved for 6:30 (we have both the library and the CC reserved and which one we use will depend on the attendance at this meeting). Once we get settled in one spot all meetings will be at 6:30 and will be on a set day, such as the last Tuesday or Thursday of every month. From day one we wanted a 6:30 start but circumstances beyond our control kept that from happening.

As was the case with the library, the Community Center offers a top rate venue for our meetings. But ALL local meeting space venues - - other than the library - - charge a fee. In this case the fee is twenty five dollars an hour and we rent the room for two hours, including set up and tear down.

For this upcoming meeting, two of our board members - - John Pinnero and Brian Nygaard - - will pay the fee with money that they have left over from the 9-12 DC tea party.

If necessary to pay for future meeting space, we'd like to find sponsors, i.e. business people who will pay the fifty dollars and in return will get special mention in our monthly newsletter (Worcester e-mail circulation of more than 200), including business details and services offered.

Remember, the more concerned citizens at the meetings, the more power and influence we have. WE can make a difference.

If This Doen't Wake Some People Up...... Nothing Else Will

Can you even believe this??

Well, boys and girls, today we are letting the fox guard the henhouse.
Tomorrow, the wolves will be herding the sheep!

Catholic Education & A #2 Pencil

The value of a Catholic Education and a #2 pencil

You don't even have to be Catholic to appreciate this one!

Little Mary Margaret was not the best student in Catholic School. Usually she slept through the class.

One day her teacher, a Nun, called on her while she was sleeping. "Tell me Mary Margaret, who created the universe?"

When Mary Margaret didn't stir, little Johnny who was her friend sitting behind her, took his pencil and jabbed her in the rear.

"God Almighty!" shouted Mary Margaret. The Nun said, "Very good" and continued teaching her class.

A little later the Nun asked Mary Margaret, "Who is our Lord and Savior?"

But Mary didn't stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to her rescue and stuck Mary Margaret in the butt.

"Jesus Christ!!!" shouted Mary Margaret and the Nun once again said,"Very good," and Mary Margaret fell back asleep.

The Nun asked her a third question..."What did Eve say to Adam after she had her twenty-third child?"

Again, Johnny came to the rescue. This time Mary Margaret jumped up and shouted, "If you stick that damn thing in me one more time, I'll break it in half!"

The Nun fainted.

In Memory Of Hubert Allen Riall

Hubert Allen Riall, Stuart, FL - October 26, 2009

Our Dad lost his battle with cancer at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 16, 1933 in Salisbury, MD to the late George and Anna Ennis Riall. He graduated from Wicomico High School and Salisbury Teachers College in Salisbury. While he was in school he was a lifeguard down at the City Park. He also served in the Army.

Our Dad's favorite thing to do was fly his Cessna. It made him proud when he'd take us up and we learned how to read the controls. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and war movies. He was known at times to run us kids out of the room with John Wayne reruns. He also relaxed by painting.

Our parents owned and operated Coastal Adjustment Bureau in Salisbury until they sold it and moved to Stuart, FL in 1983. In Florida they owned and operated Coastal Auto Repair in Ft. Pierce, FL and Shirells Restaurant in Stuart, FL.

Dad is survived by his loving and devoted wife Shirley Cooper-Riall, children AJ Riall (Amanda) of Tallahassee, FL, Kimmie Brown-Marshall of Fruitland, MD and Jim Brown (BJ) of Hobe Sound, FL Ginger Brinson (David) of Aurora, NC, daughter-in-law Shelia Riall of Eden, MD and Kim Berry of Royal Palm Beach, FL, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his devoted dog Lacey who never left his side. There is also an Uncle and several cousins. He also had special friends, Gary Pusey of Fruitland, MD, Lee Parrott of Salisbury, MD and Bob Shilling of Hobe Sound, FL.

He was preceeded in death on October 1, 2009 by his son, Michael Riall.

I'm proud to of been able to call you Dad. You also became my friend. We may of had our ups and downs but when one of us needed the other, well we were always there. While growing up we had rules to go by. At that time we thought those rules were like living in a prison. Instead, we've each grown into adults that you are proud of. I know you aren't suffering any longer and that your in a better place but for now it's hurting knowing you aren't with us any longer. Thank you for being our Dad.
