Daily Times Spreads More Love To SALISBURY NEWS
SALISBURY NEWS: Eastern Shore food bank receives new fridge truck
SALISBURY NEWS: City gets $147,000 stimulus grant for energy efficiency
SALISBURY NEWS: Man arrested in connection with charity theft
SALISBURY NEWS: Gala, art show to benefit arts foundation
SALISBURY NEWS: Drunk man apprehended at Salisbury business
SALISBURY NEWS: Police calls for Sept. 30
SALISBURY NEWS: Business start-up class scheduled in Wye Mills
You see Folks, the reason the Daily Times is now using "SALISBURY NEWS" as their header is because the Daily Times saw on Alexa that this is one of the top search words used on the Internet to bring people to Salisbury News. They simply Google, "Salisbury News."
Desperate times for desperate people. That's OK though, we're not selling papers, YET.
Salisbury News Ranked In The Top 1% Of All Websites In The US & The World
Out of literally 16 BILLION Websites around the World and several BILLION in the United States, Salisbury News has been gaining ground faster than any Website in the World.
Google/Alexa has ranked us the 81,500 Site in the United States. Mind you, Google is #1, so the lower your number, the better position you're in.
What seems to be mind boggling is to think, 81,500 out of literally billions of Websites, I don't care who you are, that's impressive. Other local Blogs are regularly between 2,000,000 to 5,000,000.
So what has changed to make our rankings so impressive, YOU! The fact that our hits have increased each and every month and then we retain those hits, YOU are the reason why we are making such a strong impression on the Internet.
To think that a local Eastern Shore Blog could ever gain such recognition is just beyond me. However, we're producing such unusual news and information about our backwards life in the 1950's style politics, who wouldn't be so interested.
Salisbury News has become the Poster Blog of what NOT to do in national politics. Weather it be a photo of Frank Krativil being hanged in effigy or Barrie Tilghman bra less at a City Council Meeting, we're leaving a lasting impression and Alexa simply doesn't lie.
Over time, as we continue to produce information year after year, these ratings continue to become more impressive. However, once you get this low number wise it becomes increasingly difficult to get even lower. Throughout the entire Blogosphere you never hear these kind of stories because quite frankly most Blogs never get into these kind of rankings.
So we thank you very much for visiting Salisbury News. Come January I believe each and every one of you will be extremely impressed with the new Salisbury News and all that we'll have to offer, FREE.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY TAPS EDUCATOR, WRITER STANLEY PLUMLY AS STATE’S NEW POET LAUREATE
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 1, 2009) – Governor Martin O’Malley today announced the appointment of Stanley Plumly to the honorary position of State Poet Laureate. Mr. Plumly, a Maryland Distinguished University Professor since 1998, is the founder of the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at the University of Maryland, College Park, and has taught at more than a dozen of the most prestigious universities in the country.
“We are fortunate to have Stanley Plumly, one of our nation’s most critically acclaimed poets, as Maryland’s new Poet Laureate,” said Governor O’Malley. “Poetry has the ability to give voice to those experiences, feelings and ideas that are most meaningful and most important to our Maryland citizens and I look forward to working with him as he travels around our State to share his gift.”
“I am flattered by this appointment and I look forward to being a part of the best of Maryland culture,” said Mr. Plumly. Mr. Plumly was selected by Governor O’Malley from recommendations made by the Poet Laureate Selection Committee, chaired by renowned author and Maryland resident, Alice McDermott. Ms. McDermott is an award winning author and a Johns Hopkins University Richard A. Macksey Professor of the Humanities.
“Poetry acknowledges our collective spirit, our common experience, while celebrating, too, the complexity of the human situation, and the value of each individual voice,” said Ms. McDermott. “Poetry reminds us that our language, so often abused and misused, is also a great gift that can inspire, sustain and unite.”
She quoted the first section of Plumly’s poem “Out-Of-The-Body Travel,” about his father playing the fiddle:
And then he would lift this finest
of furniture to his big left shoulder
and tuck it in and draw the bow
so carefully as to make the music
almost visible on the air. And play
and play until a whole roomful of the sad
relatives mourned. They knew this was
drawing of blood, threading and rethreading
the needle. They saw even in my father's
face how well he understood the pain
he put them to--his raw, red cheek
pressed against the cheek of the wood . . .
Stanley Plumly is the author of nine books of poetry, including Old Heart (Norton, 2008), which won the Los Angeles Times Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2007. Most recently, Mr. Plumly has authored Posthumous Keats (Norton, 2008), a “personal biography” of the English poet, John Keats, which has received widespread critical acclaim by reviewers for The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, The New Yorker, among others, and his poems, essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in many of the country’s best periodicals and newspapers.
Stanley Plumly is the recipient of numerous awards including eight Pushcart Prizes, the Paterson Poetry Prize (2007), an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (2002), and a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation (2001).
The Poet Laureate position was formally established by the Maryland General Assembly in 1959 and authorizes the Governor to appoint a citizen of the State as Poet Laureate of Maryland. Eight Poet Laureates have served for the State since the inception of this Act in 1959. Past Poet Laureates include (in order of service): Maria B. Coker, Vincent Godfrey Burns, Lucille Clifton, Reed Whitehorse, Linda Pasta, Roland Flint, Michael Collier and most recently, Michael Glaser.
In 2004, the Maryland State Arts Council developed an open and inclusive selection process that welcomed Poet Laureate nominations from citizens across the State. Eligible nominees were required to be Maryland residents, demonstrate a proven history of publication, and must have received critical acclaim as demonstrated by special honors, awards, or other recognitions. For information on the Poet Laureate contact the Maryland State Arts Council at 410-767-6555.
The Maryland State Arts Council, an agency of the Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development, Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts, is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. In FY 2008, the Maryland arts industry contributed $1.2 billion to the State’s economy and provided 15,000 jobs to Maryland residents. Flu Mist Vaccine Suspended At Beaver Run School
Joe, I just got a call from Beaver Run Elementary School telling me they have suspended the scheduled flu mist vaccine. The recording said if you had and questions to call the Health Department. I indeed called the Health Department and asked if it was correct that the vaccine was suspended which was verified. I then asked why it was put on hold so the operator could ask the nurse but after 5 minutes of waiting I hung up without an answer. I was hoping someone knew why the vaccine was indeed suspended.
JUVENILE ESCAPEE ARRESTED - YOUTH COUNSELOR ASSISTED IN ESCAPE
(Parkville, MD) A juvenile, with the help of a youth counselor, escapes from the custody of a privately operated juvenile facility in Baltimore County and both have been arrested.
The youth counselor is identified as Tyra Greenfield, 26, of the unit block of Surrey Lane in White Marsh, Maryland. Greenfield is charged with harboring and sexual child abuse. She was an employee of the facility, where the juvenile was being held.
The juvenile escapee was arrested in Laurel, Delaware yesterday around 10:00 a.m. by the Laurel Police Department and later transported to the Lower Eastern Shore Juvenile Center in Maryland. It is the policy of the Maryland State Police to not identify victims of sex crimes. The juvenile will remain anonymous. The juvenile will be charged as a juvenile for escape.
Maryland state troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack and the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team began tracking the juvenile on Monday, September 28, 2009 after he fled the custody of a staff member. Police investigators learned that the escapee used Greenfield’s cell phone to contact family members. It was also learned that the escapee and Greenfield had sexual relations the night prior to their arrests.
No Texting While Driving In Maryland
The Ocean City Police Department is advising citizens that beginning October 1, 2009, text messaging while operating a motor vehicle is prohibited and against the law in Maryland. Under the new Maryland law any person operating a motor vehicle who engages in writing, sending a text message while operating a motor vehicle or in the travel portion of the roadway can be citied. If you are convicted of a misdemeanor of the new text messaging law you will receive a fine of up to $500. The new laws do not apply to emergency situations (Texting 9-1-1) or global positioning system. The OCPD believes that drivers should minimize all distractions while operating a motor vehicle. A driver should concentrate on the safe operation of the vehicle they are driving and pay close attention to the road. Chief Bernadette A. DiPino states “Ocean City is subject to a significant amount of pedestrian, bike and vehicle traffic. The OCPD supports this important public safety regulation and will strictly enforce this law.”

Salisbury Police Department Website Down
The Salisbury Police Department's Website has been down for the past 24 hours. We're not sure if they simply didn't pay the bill or if they don't even know it's been Out of Order, since they rarely post current information there on a daily basis anyway. So if you're wondering why there's been no updates, (this time) it's because their Site is down and out.
I'll bet you a million bucks that if they didn't know, they do now. LMAO!
Guess Who's Now Banned From Capitol Christmas Tree!
Forest Service forbids 'religious themes' on 5,000 decorations recognizing holiday
The U.S. Forest Service has banned the name of Jesus from decorations being assembled by children in Arizona for a blue spruce from the state that will become the Capitol Christmas Tree
this year, and a legal firm is challenging the censorship.
"Banning Christmas from the Capitol Christmas tree is just absurd. Christian students shouldn't be discriminated against for expressing their religious beliefs," said Jonathan Scruggs, litigation staff counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.
"The First Amendment does not allow government officials to exclude schoolchildren's ornaments
for the capitol's Christmas tree merely because they communicate a religious viewpoint," he said yesterday.
The organization has sent a letter to state and federal officials, including Arizona Gov. Janice Brewer, who are supervising the program, calling on them to stop enforcement of the prohibition.

The Difference Between Liberals And Conservatives
Joe:
You might want to explain to your readers the difference between Liberals and Conservatives.
A Liberal has no problem giving away that which is not his and some might even give away their own, but believes you have no right to what you worked for.
A Conservative protects what is his and believes you have the right to do the same or not, as you chose.

Eastern Shore Republicans Sure Do Know How To Throw A Party
Last weekend Republicans gathered for their annual Crab Feast here in Salisbury. I have attended the Democrats and Republicans gathering each year and I have to say, the Republicans always get about 10 times more in attendance.
Great speeches and uplifting fellowship was experienced by all and the crabs were out of this world. In fact, I purchased a bushel of crabs at the end and brought them home to pick and make crab cakes for the third year in a row.
Texas Pardons Inmate Freed By DNA
A Texas man who spent more time in prison than any other inmate before being exonerated by DNA evidence has been pardoned by the governor of Texas.
The official declaration of James Woodard's innocence clears the way for the Dallas man to collect millions of dollars from the state.
Gov. Rick Perry issued the pardon Wednesday, 18 months after Woodard was released from prison after spending more than 27 years in prison for a 1980 murder he didn't commit.

HYPOCRITE THY NAME IS DEMOCRAT
How ironic that today's Democrat party celebrate Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson as their founders. They hold an annual fund raising dinner in their honor and then proceed to do the opposite of what these men stood for. Both the third and seventh Presidents of the United States, believed in State sovereignty and a less patriarchal federal government. In those days, in the distant past, voting was far different. Minority voting blocks had yet to be discovered and power for powers sake was not as important as was ideology. Jefferson and Jackson favored a smaller, less powerful judiciary. Washington and Adams, particularly Adams, favored an expanded more influential judiciary.
It would be appropriate for Democrats to celebrate George Washington and John Adams who favored a stronger central government and rule by the elite. Perhaps, the reason is that the elite is harder to define today. Who is the Democrat elite? The patrician John Kerry, the wealthy Nancy Pelosi, John Corzine or the tax cheat Charlie Rangel? The political world has turned upside down. It does reveal, however, why it has become so difficult to determine what a candidate truly believes when all they seek is an influential job, with a good pension.

STIMULUS SERMON Gen 47:13-27
This should be required reading for every American.. Spread this word.....
Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia is obviously a leader and not one of the sheep. Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is………….It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.
RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE -STIMULUS SERMON Gen 47:13-27
Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to ge t into God's Word.. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will to the 47th chapter of Genesis, we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27. Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?
....(reading)....
Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray... So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.
So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock -their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year.. But the famine wasn't over, was it?
So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him,in return for gr ain. What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?
That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes.. That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master? Yes. But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one. We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth "once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what
kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.
What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior ? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?
Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.
Bow with me in prayer, Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation.. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government.
New Jobless Claims Rise More Than Expected
WASHINGTON - First-time claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week in the U.S., a sign employers are reluctant to hire and the job market remains weak.
The Labor Department says initial claims for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally adjusted 551,000 from 534,000 in the previous week. Wall Street economists expected an increase of 5,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.
Ohio reported one of the largest drops in claims.

Heavy Thinking
There is an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.
This year's term was "Political Correctness."
The winner wrote:
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

President and First Lady Travel 4,000 Miles -- On Separate Planes -- To Lobby For Olympics
(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are both traveling to Copenhagen this week to promote Chicago's bid to host to the 2016 Olympic Games--and they will be making the 3,979-mile trip on separate airplanes.
The first lady left on Tuesday night, while the president will leave for Denmark on Thursday night.
Taxpayers will pick up the tab for both jets ferrying the president and first lady separately to Europe.
“Everything they do, whether it’s signing pieces of legislation or flying around the world, everything is costing the taxpayer,” David Williams, vice president of policy for Citizens Against Government Waste, told CNSNews.com. “The taxpayer is picking up the tab for everything.”
The White House announced on Monday that the president would be joining his wife on this European trip, despite indicating earlier this month that the first lady would head up the U.S. Olympic Committee delegation to Copenhagen while Obama remained in the United States to continue pushing for his health care reform plan.

Defendants That Exposed ACORN Should Be Exonerated
ACORN (The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) was favored and nurtured until recently by many on the left in state legislatures around the country and in Congress.
The organization was recently embarrassed by an investigation by two young people using a concealed camera and recording devices. “A video sting had caught ACORN workers counseling a bogus prostitute and pimp on how to set up a brothel staffed by under-age girls, avoid detection and cheat on taxes. The young woman in streetwalker’s clothes and her companion were actually undercover conservative activists with a hidden camera,” The New York Times’ Public Editor said Sept. 27,
As a result of this scandal, ACORN lost millions of dollars of federal funding. It announced it would sue the investigating pair and others involved, because they “recorded the staff members without their consent, which is illegal [in Maryland].”
If Maryland law does makes such recordings illegal, its legislature should immediately enact a law to legalize them and, if possible, make the law retroactive as well. If the Maryland legislature does not rescind the law, hopefully the defendants will be exonerated under the theory of jury nullification: a jury refusing in the interest of justice and equity to carry out the letter of the law.

An Illustrated Guide: All The President’s Olympic Cronies
My syndicated column today — reprinted below with added links, pics, and info — gives you a rundown of the Obama cronies inside and outside the White House who stand to gain the most from the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid.
Chicagoans of all political stripes who oppose massive government funding of Mayor Richard Daley’s pet project have inundated my email-box. Reader Will P. sums it all up by noting that the games would “protect the current corrupt structure” and paper over Chicago/Illinois’s myriad woes, including: “Governor after Governor going to jail. Pay to play schemes. Crumbling and outdated infrastructure. Deteriorating public housing. Failing, dumbing-down schools.
Hospital cutbacks. Sanctuary city. Never-ending gang wars (outbursts every Spring requiring massive police presence, police outmanned at the Taste of Chicago, innocents shot in the crossfire weekly, current beating video out now). Cemetery scandal (bodies removed and graves resold)…Acorn, Bill Ayers, Rezko, Blago, Wright. Univ. of Illinois “clout” scandal. Illegal preferential city hiring. City inspectors on the take (Operation Crooked Code). Voter fraud. The unemployment rate. Taxes through the roof. Mayor Daley attempting to extend city taxes to the suburbs. All this, and more…”
Daley’s approval ratings are at a record low as he scrambles to lease everything from parking meters to airports to raise cash. Residents are still reeling over the murder of teenager Derrion Albert. But FLOTUS Michelle Obama, on her merry way to Copenhagen, is singing a happy tune: “I mean, you know, most of these Games are taking place blocks away from my house.
There’s good security by my house these days. And while Chicago is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, it is — people don’t live in fear. The downtown area is completely accessible…
I know Mayor Daley, and he’s going to make sure that these Games go off without a hitch because that’s the kind of mayor he is. It’s not called the ‘City That Works’ for nothing.”
It “works” for the few at the expense of the many. That is the Chicago way.

Obama Deception
President Obama, if you persuade your liberal thugs in congress to use deception or unconventional maneuvering to force your "public option" upon us, please have enough sense to understand that THERE WILL BE NO MORAL IMPERATIVE FOR US TO FOLLOW THE LAW. Please, pay attention to what you are doing to the meaning of "law" in this country. Think!
Family Donates Birthday Proceeds To Camp Barnes!
Camp Barnes
Resume: This past weekend Kurt and Mary Lawson celebrated their son Robbie’s third birthday in a non-traditional, yet very generous and giving way. The Lawson’s asked family and friends to donate money to Camp Barnes, instead of giving gifts to their child. The Lawson’s celebrated their son’s first and second birthdays in the same way! This unique way of celebrating has raised several hundred dollars for this non-profit organization. A generous donation, such as this one, allows Camp Barnes to stay in existence.
Every summer Camp Barnes sponsors a week long camp for children through out the summer, free of charge. Additionally, this past August Camp Barnes sponsored a week long camp for children from the Children’s Burn Center. This allows some children, who otherwise would not have the opportunity to go to camp, experience the exciting outdoor adventures of camp life on the beautiful grounds of Camp Barnes.

The Parrot
A woman went to a pet shop & immediately spotted a large, beautiful parrot.
There was a sign on the cage that said $50.00.
"Why so little?" she asked the pet store owner.
The owner looked at her and said,"Look, I should tell you first that this bird used to live in a house of Prostitution and sometimes it says some pretty vulgar stuff."
The woman thought about this, but decided she had to have the bird anyway.
She took it home and hung the bird's cage up in her living room and waited for it to say something.
The bird looked around the room, then at her, and said,
"New house, new madam."
The woman was a bit shocked at the implication, but then thought "that's really not so bad."
When her 2 teenage daughters returned from school the bird saw and said, "New house, new madam, new girls."
The girls and the woman were a bit offended but then began to laugh about the situation
considering how and where the parrot had been raised.
Moments later, the woman's husband Keith came home from work.
The bird looked at him and said,
"Hi Keith"
