KNOCK OUT!!!!!!!!
Fernando Guerrero has done it AGAIN!
This information comes to you almost LIVE. Manager Hal Chernoff just called me to let me know the details of yet another brief fight. Fernando came out in the first round feeling his opponent out and got in a decent punch that knocked his opponent to the mat. However, the referee called it a slip.
Within one minute of the second round Fernando clobbered his opponent with a knock out blow to the head and his opponent went down to the canvas. His face was mushed on the canvas with his left arm behind his back and he was out cold.
It took about 2 minutes, (perhaps longer) before they were able to wake him up and finally get him back to his corner.
This guy Fernando Guerrero is quickly becoming a Super Star. Hal told me he was wiping up the mat in Fernando's corner, he then went to tie his shoe and the next thing he knew the Referee was counting down, he missed the critical blow completely.
I have heard this several times, you cannot blink when watching a Fernando Guerrero Fight! Great work Fernando and thanks for shedding so much positive light to your Home Town, Salisbury Maryland.
Today! 1:30pm At Chef Fred's In Salisbury
Ireton to Announce Mayoral Run
"Help Is On The Way" Tour Begins
--Salisbury—Neighborhood activist Jim Ireton will declare his candidacy for Mayor of Salisbury on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 1:30 PM at Chef Fred's in Salisbury. Citing the need to unite and rally citizens to the causes of cleaning up the Wicomico River, dedicating the resources to reducing crime that plagues the city, making neighborhoods safe for homeowners and renters to live, and returning a sense of fiscal responsibility to a debt ridden city budget, Ireton says that "Only a renewed sense of energy and change in perspective can turn Salisbury around."
Ireton was born in Salisbury in 1970, graduated with a Bachelors degree from Salisbury University in 1992 and holds a Masters Degree from the College of Notre Dame. A longtime community activist, Ireton was the first resident to purchase a home through Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services – doing so at the age of 24. Ireton, 38, currently serves as the Chairman of the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress, Treasurer for the Johnson's Lake Neighborhood Association, Board Member for the Wicomico County Education Association, Board Member for Pemberton Hall, Secretary of the Democratic Central Committee of Wicomico County, and President of the Democratic Club.
"I do not run to embrace the status quo. The issues that Salisbury faces today are ones that are having a debilitating effect on the Wicomico River, on families raising kids, students going to college, on citizens looking for meaningful jobs, on the ever increasing elderly population, and on the skyrocketing costs of water and sewer service. I will not run without specific plans to address the issues we face.
"I believe that the greatest service is public service. Since high school I have devoted my time to education and advocating for schoolchildren, the safety of neighborhoods in our community, and open, efficient, and responsive government.
I am forever grateful to this community for all of the opportunities it has given me. From being Baby New Year in the Salisbury Times in 1973, winning my first tennis tournament, at age 9, on the City Park Tennis Courts, to buying the first house through SNHS's revitalization efforts, to leading the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress, I have been blessed by a community that has always seen my potential. I am honored to work every day in order to improve the quality of life in my hometown. I believe we live in one of the greatest communities and that we should protect our quality of life in every way possible. I want Salisbury to know that help is on the way."

HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER
The “Squirrel Picture”
The house at 102 W. William St., Salisbury, is the home of David and Jennifer Gammel and their two daughters, Ella and Lily. The squirrel picture came with the house. My son, Mike, refinished some floors in the house and immediately called me when he saw the picture.
The history of the “squirrel picture” in the upstairs room is as follows:
- The Artist – H.C. Derby drew the picture on November 4, 1924. He is listed in the 1921 Salisbury City Directory as a painter. By the 1934 Directory he was listed as an interior decorator. His brother was H. A.
Derby. In the late 1950’s, H. A. Derby’s job was caretaker at Parson’s Cemetery on N. Division St.
- The Resident – In 1924, the house was occupied by a George F. Sharpley and his wife, Nannie. His occupation was listed as the train dispatcher at the Union Station, which was built in 1914 and is still standing. Their phone number was 243 at the time of the drawing until at least 1932. By 1944, at the same address, under the listing of George F. Sharpley, the phone number was 2192-W. In the 1950 C & P telephone book, there is no listing for a Sharpley.
Mr. Sharpley was involved with the Masons and is listed in a program from April 27, 1928 as the Master of Ceremonies, as well as on the Reception Committee. He was the Junior Warden of the Salisbury Lodge of Perfection, A. & A. S. R.
- The Picture – Apparently the picture was drawn in 1924 for whatever reason. Maybe he was amusing a small child who was watching him paint and the child wanted to save the picture. It has been painted around ever since, leaving the picture intact. I have even heard that somewhere along the line someone bought a picture frame and hung it over the picture. The Sharpleys probably wouldn’t have acceded to the wishes of a child that was not their own, but there is no mention of any Sharpley children.
Today Is National Recycling Day
Today is National Recycling Day. The first photo is of Salisbury's Recycling Force with City recycling staff. The second photo is of Julia "Betsy" Hancock, one of the original two members (the second is James Trader) who have been working tirelessly to get Salisbury recycling for years. Three cheers for this dedicated group! Recycle, reuse, restore.
"SOMETHING OF HISTORIC PROPORTION IS HAPPENING"
A reader comment over at Dollard's place nails it. Plain and simple .... and
true. This is what I see. I wish I had written it. (hat tip mg)
I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six
languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something
monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a
mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single
facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.
Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know
how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a
perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our
country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has
dramatically quickened in the past two.
We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive
loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?
We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real
oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is
$2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or
why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three
times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who
has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who
asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the
people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.
We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy.
Why?
We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no
longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are
worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or
articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards
continue to back mediocrity. Why?
We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now
violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it
wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such
a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political
process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way
of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our
voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?
Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major
industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social
security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our
education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I
am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It
is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for
fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the
throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.
And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so
much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his
associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of
employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if
not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create
and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use
inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you
over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and
$150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)
Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.
Why?
I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.
This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever
done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along
philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a
new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes,
you will never see the same nation again.
And that is only the beginning.
And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral
German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former
smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German
knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups
that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he
edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises.
Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker.
And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak
out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then,
he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the
Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power,
department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids
joined a Youth Movement in his
name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his
side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and
goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the
children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better
jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across
Europe, and across the world.
He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the
name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.
(Look it up if you think I am exaggerating.)
Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down,
called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out
the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he
was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy
troublemaker. He was right, though.
Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It
was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And
in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S.
presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its
laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All
with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.
As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a
choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even
if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to
me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing
my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.
Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both.
Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell
them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.
I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am.

Don't Shoot The Messenger!
By Tom Adkins
Look at my fellow conservatives! There they go, glumly shuffling along, depressed by the election aftermath. Not me. I'm virtually euphoric. Don't get me wrong. I'm not thrilled with America 's flirtation with neo socialism. But there's a massive silver lining in those magical clouds that lofted Barak Obama to the Presidency. For today, without a shred of intellectually legitimate opposition, I can loudly proclaim to America : The Era of White Guilt is over.
This seemingly impossible event occurred because the vast majority of white Americans didn't give a fluff about skin color, and enthusiastically pulled the voting lever for a black man. Not just any black man. A very liberal black man who spent his early career race-hustling banks, praying in a racist church for 20 years, and actively worked with America-hating domestic terrorists. Wow! Some resume! Yet they made Barak Obama their leader. Therefore, as of Nov 4th, 2008, white guilt is dead.
For over a century, the millstone of white guilt hung around our necks, retribution for slave-owning predecessors. In the 60s, American liberals began yanking that millstone while sticking a fork in the eye of black Americans, exacerbating the racial divide to extort a socialist solution. But if a black man can become President, exactly what significant barrier is left? The election of Barak Obama absolutely destroys the entire validation of liberal white guilt. The dragon is hereby slain.
So today, I'm feeling a little "uppity," if you will. From this day forward, my tolerance level for having my skin color hustled is now exactly ZERO. And it's time to clean house.. No more Reverend Wright's "God Damn America ," Al Sharpton's Church of Perpetual Victimization , or Jesse Jackson's rainbow racism. Cornell West? You're a fraud. Go home. All those "black studies" programs that taught kids to hate whitey? You must now thank Whitey. And I want that on the final.
Congressional Black Caucus? Irrelevant. Maxine Waters? Shut up. ACORN? Outlawed. Black Panthers? Go home and pet your kitty. Black separatists? Find another nation that offers better dreams. Go ahead. I'm waiting.
Gangsta rappers? Start praising America . Begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. And please…no more ebonics. Speak English, and who knows where you might end up? Oh, yeah…pull up your pants. Your underwear is showing. You look stupid.
To those Eurosnots who forged entire careers hating America ? I'm still waiting for the first black French President.
And let me offer an equal opportunity whupping. I've always despised lazy white people. Now, I can talk smack about lazy black people. You're poor because you quit school, did drugs, had three kids with three different fathers, and refuse to work. So when you plop your Colt 45-swilling, Oprah watchin' butt on the couch and complain "Da Man is keepin' me down," allow me to inform you: Da Man is now black. You have no excuses.
No more quotas. No more handouts. No more stealing my money because someone's great-great-great-great grandparents suffered actual pain and misery at the hands of people I have no relation to, and personally revile.
It's time to toss that massive, obsolete race-hustle machine upon the heap of the other stupid 60s ideas. Drag it over there, by wife swapping, next to dope-smoking. Plenty of room right between free love and cop-killing. Careful…don't trip on streaking. There ya go, don't be gentle. Just dump it. Wash your hands. It's filthy.
In fact, Obama's ascension created a gargantuan irony. How can you sell class envy and American unfairness when you and your black wife went to Ivy League schools, got high-paying jobs, became millionaires, bought a mansion, and got elected President? How unfair is that??? Now, Like a delicious O'Henry tale, Obama's spread-the-wealth campaign rendered itself moot by it's own victory! America is officially a meritocracy.
Obama's election has validated American conservatism!
So, listen carefully…Wham!!!
That's the sound of my foot kicking the door shut on the era of white guilt. The rites have been muttered, the carcass lowered, dirt shoveled, and tombstone erected. White guilt is dead and buried.
However, despite my glee, there's apparently one small, rabid bastion of American racism remaining. Black Americans voted 96% for Barak Obama. Hmmm. In a color-blind world, shouldn't that be 50-50? Tonight, every black person should ask forgiveness for their apparent racism and prejudice towards white people. Maybe it's time to start spreading the guilt around.

"Hi Joe,
It was nice seeing you at the meeting the other night. Wanted to let you know that we have 10 dogs and 3 cats going to new homes tomorrow! People are still seeing our animals on your site and coming in and when finding those pets are adopted, they are choosing others...I love it when things work together. I couldn't ask for anything better...except that the trend continues! Thank you for being a part of our successes. Have a good weekend.
