"SOMETHING OF HISTORIC PROPORTION IS HAPPENING"

A reader comment over at Dollard's place nails it. Plain and simple .... and
true. This is what I see. I wish I had written it. (hat tip mg)

I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six
languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something
monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a
mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single
facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know
how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a
perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our
country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has
dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive
loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real
oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is
$2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or
why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three
times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who
has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who
asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the
people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy.
Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no
longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are
worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or
articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards
continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now
violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it
wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such
a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political
process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way
of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our
voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major
industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social
security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our
education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I
am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It
is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for
fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the
throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so
much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his
associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of
employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if
not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create
and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use
inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you
over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and
$150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.

Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever
done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along
philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a
new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes,
you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral
German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former
smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German
knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups
that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he
edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises.
Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker.
And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak
out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then,
he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the
Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power,
department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids
joined a Youth Movement in his
name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his
side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and
goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the
children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better
jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across
Europe, and across the world.

He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the
name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

(Look it up if you think I am exaggerating.)

Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down,
called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out
the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he
was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy
troublemaker. He was right, though.

Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It
was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And
in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S.
presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its
laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All
with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a
choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even
if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to
me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing
my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both.
Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell
them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am.

  1. Call me crazy all you like but in the 'end times' the US plays no role at all. I can see that happening now when all eyes are on Israel and the middle east.

  2. how can you blame obama , you say dumming down our schools ,getting rid or the industry, shipping our jobs out.
You are wrong, thank george bush for the last 8 years.
stop writing on your own feeling and what you want to make something look like.
You are a republican who has failed like the whole republican party .
Stop blaming someone else, YOU ARE THE FAILURE.
    AND HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM.

  3. Don't think he ever blamed Obama.

  4. It is not just Obama, but all the Democrats.
The schools are run by unions that are in bed with the Dems.
The main stream media is in bed with the Dems.
The ACLU that sues to force sex Ed in kindergarten, and has been ramming "gay is okay" down our throats is a Dem backed organization.
The environmentalists that want us all riding horses and living in huts are all Dems.
    Wake up 8:48!
Stop blaming Bush, I suspect you are a Democrat, look in the mirror!

  5. 8:48

Wake the hell up! It's not the republican party anymore than it's the democrat party. You seem to forget that the democrats have been running the house and senate for 2 years and they, too, have failed to put the proper changes in motion to get this country back on track.

BOTH parties have disappointed the American people. BOTH parties have played an equal role - from creating and implementing rules and policies that demand that loans for low income housing be made without the integration of sound financial fundamentals, to the squandering of money in Iraq and Afghanistan with no system of checks and balances. BOTH parties spend way too much time and money dividing us along party lines so that their parties remain in office a little longer. Party politics does not serve the people. It has been said that the "parties" are a system of checks and balances - one against the other. The PEOPLE are the checks and balances. I don't think it has ever been more clear that it wasn't the democrats that took the republicans out of power this election. It was the people that took the republicans out of power....the way it was designed.

More people crossed party lines during this election than ever before - in both directions. More and more every election year political parties lose the icy grip on their constituency. People are beginning to look more at the candidate and their position on the issues.

Whether the people fell for a bill of goods sold by another lying politician is to be seen - I personally think they have. But I think the bill of goods was sold by a person and his campaign more than a party.

Regardless, these newly elected officials have two years before the satisfaction of the people can be accurately measured. If the people are dissatisfied, they will vote out the politicians with whom those recently elected align. If the people are satisfied they will let everything be the way it is. Forget his partisan bullshit and lets send the message that it's our country we care about. The fundamentals of our Constitution. Vote on the issues and change the way American politics works to unite to country under one flag.

  6. Keep a population Fat, Dumb and Happy, and History will steamroll them into the ground. Sadly, the writer is correct. All the trends and events are leading up to a totalitarian state. Even worse, The leader of that State, Whom ever it ends up being, will have full access to the Nukes.
    Ignorence preceeds the fall.

  8. Atlas shrugs is a fantastic blog--search her site for the theory that Obama is really the son of Malcolm X and look at the physical resemblance, it will knock the wind out of you. Don't people realise that the Nation of Islam is based on eradicating white people from this earth? Sharia law is already in effect in the UK, wake up people, especially white women.

  9. IMHO, one of the biggest problems we have, maybe the biggest, is a totally dishonest and biased press. All objectivity was thrown overboard in this election cycle. The fawning over and the suppression of anything negative to Obama was quite simply put, breathtaking. Example - Why wasn't Ayers on the morning talk show before the election rather than after? You already see the press doing a CYA now that their selected candidate has won. They wanted to be the purveyors of a piece of history and they achieved their goal. Now it is COVER Our ASSES time.

How long will the lone dissenting voices in the wilderness be allowed to exist? Beware, talk radio, and the blogosphere, for you are squarely in the crosshairs of the thought police. Any dissention will not be tolerated, the change agent and his minions, will see to that. The press will be willing accomplices, they don't want the competition. God help us all.

  10. Then move away. The US does not need you if all you are going to do is complain. Help, or go.

    Your choice.

  11. the writer of this article is the type of person that put us in the position we are in. The type that blames people with a different view than their own. I'm sorry you lost the election, but it's time for all Americans to realize that neither party as it stands gives a crap about us. For real? Comparing Obama to Hitler? You are an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 12;00, I'm not sure that I would call the other writer an idiot. Aren't you doing the same thing you accuse him/her of: the type that blames people with a different view of their own." And, yes, there are parallels between Hitler and Obama. Hitler was a mesmerizing speaker who was able to sway people with his oratory. Obama is one scary character, reminiscent of the anti-Christ in the Left Behind series, one who is able to cast his spell over people. And, no, I am NOT saying that Obama is the anti-Christ. He has the gift of oratory. What else does he have to offer? We shall see.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anon 12:47 I heard a quote once that Obama isn't the Anti-Christ but he's preparing the way for him. Just look at how the rest of the globe is head over heels for him, they are ready to put their faith in one man to lead them somewhere.

  14. The writer is absolutely right on the money. Why would the Democrats want to institute the so-called "Fairness Doctrine", in which they want to silence talk radio. (poeple like Rush Limbaugh and such) Like it or not, sometimes these talk shows are the only way we can find out about the shenanigans that go on in D.C. I keep trying to preach to people (sometimes like beating my head aginst the wall) that:
    1. The government works for us.
    We don't work for them.
    2. The government has no money unless we give it to them.
    IT IS OUR MONEY, PEOPLE!
We really need to take this government back, and elect some people who are going to look out for our country.

  15. An excellent movie to give you the flavor of living under socialism is "The Lives Of Others". This movie was recommended by Rush Limbaugh recently and I just finished watching it. Make sure you watch the entire film. Hollywood Video in Salisbury has it in. (when I return it)

I have a cousin who escaped East Germany in the mid 1960's and lived many years in Ocean Pines. When the wall finally fell, only about 19 years ago, she went back and helped sort out the sale of a large building our family owned that was confiscated by the government when the wall was put up. It took years to settle but she arranged the sale and transfer of funds to the remaining members of our family. Many of our East German relatives I never knew. She also gave me photos of the building which still had bomb craters from WWII affecting large portions of it. The undamaged parts were used as apartments. The stories she tells makes me sure I don't want to experience socialism in this country. Let's keep vigilant and keep this country free.

  18. This is an excellent article. "his idea to create
and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use
inside our borders?" We have the National Guard and the Coast Guard for this purpose, so what exactly is his agenda? He likes to you the word RULE a lot. One of the first items on his agenda is Guantanamo Bay, will he release his friends back into our communities? It is frightening, to think of the country our children will inherit.

  19. To be honest...as a young person, I blame the Boomers. It is the most coddled, spoiled and idiotic generation this nation has ever seen. I have no need for the Boomer Democrats, and I have no need for the Boomer Republicans. All have chewed up and spat out this country like a bunch of locusts. Inheriting a deluge of resources and worldwide goodwill and wasting every last ounce of both.

I believe in Obama's intentions, but I have no idea if he will be able to pull off a turnaround of any kind...in any case, I think any citizen worth their salt should remain supportive, active and vigilant in this difficult time.

As for the comparison to Hitler...asinine. How can you know so little of what it means to preserve freedoms to and fight for the betterment of a nation? Any goal of collective action is negative, hm? And how do you think "every man for himself" has really been working out for us now that the smokescreen of pseudo-prosperity we've been appeased with for a couple of decades is quickly dissipating? What do you think you have that is worth coming after?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, what a refreshing commentary from your readers. I agree that something of historic proportion is happening and this article was right on until the writer got to Obama. Obama was practically a child when this all began, and the article lost all focus - never addressed the possible answers to the author's opening statements - he just changed direction and went right to the blame game. Grand Dad is 100 percent right on!

  24. Both parties are controlled. The Global Bankers are our enemy. They control our government. They chose Obama and convinced us that we chose him. They will now control him because he is totally compromised. They hid his flaws because they control the media through the corporations which own the media. They will threaten to expose him they way they handled Clinton - through the media. We will soon see global government and global banking with global currency. We are in deep trouble. Stop voting, stop participating in this vile wicked government. It is time for us to break this evil, and form a "more perfect union". Stop the petty bickering about which of these two corrupt political parties is better. Wake up folks, before it is too late.
