The Three Greatest Fighters In Wicomico County
IT'S SHOWTIME!
Hal Chernoff, Fernando Guerrero and their Team of Promoters held a Press Conference at the Black Diamond in Fruitland yesterday.
Their announcement wasn't new, just updated with excitement. Ticket Sales are going fantastic, thank you, all of you. I have been receiving calls all day long asking if I could provide ring side seats for friends. Here's the deal Folks. We have done everything possible to make sure everyone was aware of the discount that was available the first three days. Tickets are moving fast, (honestly) and you'll need to contact the Civic Center at 410-548-4911 and reserve your seats. There are maybe TWO ring side seats left.
As far as the fight goes, there may be 8 fights on the card that night. FOUR of the fights, the Boxers are Undefeated! Fernando will go up against Tyrone Watson from the Pittsburgh area who is also UNDEFEATED. Tyrone has a record of 7-0 while Fernando is now 9-0. I'm told Tyrone also fought in a heavier weight class, so we'll see what happens that evening. When Fernando was asked what he thought of this Fighter he replied, "He's got a good record and I'm glad I'm going to be the one to screw it up."
October 3rd is the big date Folks. Showtime will bring this fight home to millions upon millions of people. Sow your support and buy tickets for the Family and go out and see this event. Fernando had mentioned that many of the women that usually don't like fights would come to some of his fights in other states and they just loved seeing him fight.
Firefighters, Police Officers, Elks, VFW's, Rotary, you name it. Everyone get together and purchase your tickets so we can sell out this event. There are 6,000 tickets available for this fight. Don't wait until the last minute and be disappointed. Think about it. When this fight comes around and there aren't any seats available any longer, you're going to be ticked off. See You There!
Pink Floyd's Richard Wright Dies At 65
Question of the Day, Mon 9/15
Have you ever sang in a crowd? Are you part of a band? Are you a member of the church choir? When in school, did you ever sing solo in the school concerts?
God
I was listening to Sen. Biden spew from the mouth and he said something that speaks to the core of his beliefs.
He was reciting a piece from the pledge and stated this, 'One Nation, indivisible'. Now I ask you, where is God?
I thought the pledge was 'One nation, under God, indivisible'. Let them try to keep God from my country.
Let them forget who it was that started this great nation, and the God fearing people that put God into everything they said or did. To remove him, to remove God, well that says everything to me.
Lord, I pray that you don't let Obama and Biden win the presidential election. I pray that you help us bring you back into our mainstream life and country. I pray you put McCain and Palin in office and help them to restore us to 'ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE with LIBERTY, and JUSTICE FOR ALL' A-men."

Captains Cove Developers Fall Flat!
Originally developed in the early 1970's by Cal Burns & First Charter Corporation, Captains Cove in Greenbackville, VA has seen it highs and lows. Captains' Cove Golf & Yacht Club was designed by the same person who laid out Ocean Pines and the two communties are virtually identical when it comes to the size of lots, roads, easements, canals and more.
With over 4,400 lots on plats; marketing companies, real estate developers and local real estate agents have worked this piece of land on the Chincoteague Bay for decades.
Half of the project never had sewer and water brought to it and was marketed in the early days as the 'unbuildable' sections where salesmen told lies to potential buyers that one day it would be just like 'Ocean Pines' and they would be able to build on those lots.
In the meantime they would sell them as 'Membership' lots so that one could use the pool, golf course and marina. During the post "First Charter" period in the 1980's & 90's these 'unbuildable' lots never sold for much more than $500 after the original marketing company sold out the entire development in the 70's, using the same "high pressure" sales tactics that sold out Ocean Pines.
Building was slow from the beginning until the 90's with maybe 200+ houses built there with most being on the water or golf course. There were a few bursts of activity when several groups would come in and buy up lots for resale, but the original developer maintained control.
Then comes the real estate bubble from 2000 to 2005; and former Ocean City realtors of the Moore, Warfield & Glick fame saw the Cove as an opportunity they couldn't go wrong on.
The "new Captain's Cove" development group purchased all of the property owned by the original developer Cal Burns and the property held by the home owners association, along with the developer rights. They hired architects to design a new club house, indoor pool, & marina building. They put in new gates to the community, and began the process of petitioning the county to bring water and sewer to the unbuildable lots. The formerly 'unbuildable' sections were labeled by realtors as 'future development' lots, even though there was no legal basis for that label.
They had not met Atlantic's Mr. Wolf, nor the Fleming family with deep roots in Accomack County going back hundreds of years. These folks put together a group of residents that contested each and every method that the developers proposed to develop the 2,200 + 'unbuildable' lots. Their argument and one that is valid is that if all of those lots are developed the crap will have no where to go. The Chincoteague Bay does not empty as efficiently as it fills thus often leaving stale water in the bay for days on end. (hence the reason Chincoteague oysters have their unique flavor)
The Bay is easily polluted and it's health is questionable without the development dumping millions of gallons of sewage into its waterways.
Many options were explored and one was even to pump all of the sewage into trucks with trucks taking it to local farms and spraying it on the crops grown therein. This wasn't such a bad idea in theory, but then cost of diesel went through the roof and the reality of how many trips and to how many farms would have to be made, turned out to be not such a great idea. Additionally, crops meant for human consumption aren't allowed to be sprayed with human waste. The surrounding landowners refused to sell the 'new developers' the rights to spray crap on their land.
All the while this battle was waging between the developer and the citizens in and around the area the marketing team for the developers were selling this project to people who wanted the Ocean City area but were priced out of the market. Suddenly, papers advertising OC realtors were pushing Cove lots and homes. Prices for 'buildable' interior lots that were $5,000 in the 90's jumped to $50,000.00 or more. Golf course lots that were $8,000 to $10,000 during the 90's spiked up to over $100,000.00 while being pitched as a good investment. Canal & bayfront lots that were once a hard sell at $25,000.00 became a 'great investment' at $250,000.00 with greed and huge profits being paid to the agents and 'early investors' of what was once considered the white elephant of Accomack County.
Then came the 'marketing' of 2,200 unbuildable lots with no water, power or sewer and no permits or approved plans to develop these sections. These lots jumped from $500 per lot to $30,000 and more with hollow promises of future development by greedy realtors looking for a quick flip or fat commission. 'Investors' up and down the shore thought Moore Warfield and Glick were going to get a new sewage treatment plant built and they started buying all of the unbuildable lots they could get their hands on. The $500 'membership lots' were then being touted as 'future development' and sold for $30,000.00 to $150,000.00 or more each.
Now the tides have turned, the real estate market is in murkier water than the Chincoteague Bay on a slack tide in August, and not only is nothing being sold, but the prices are dropping like a lead balloon.
Now the astute developers have left PNC Bank holding the bag on about $18,000,000 in loans as they filed for bankruptcy protection last week, with PNC demanding the outstanding $22,000,000 loans secured by real estate. That's close to $40,000.000 bucks folks, bet on being able to obtain approvals to dump crap from 2,200 homesites in the Chincoteague Bay that had not been approved for 30-years by the original developer.
The original cost to develop Captain's Cove in the1970's was under $3 million dollars and the original developer sold out in about 3-years.
Hopefully things will go back to normal and regular folks can buy a house in the low $100s once again and Captains Cove can go back to being that strange little community that you know that if placed anywhere else on the face of the earth would be successfully huge and crowded. But it is a quirky little development that just doesn't seem to fit into any of those molds that we know from the outside world, and it is probably the reason that we love it.

Bike Week Is Over
Not without a massive turn out and millions of dollars being spent in Wicomico & Worcester County. Winter Place Park proved it can handle the crowd for next year and with some additional hard work, it can be a huge success. If you have any special photos you'd like to pass on from Bike week, send them along and we'll get them posted.
Oh, for those of you who didn't like this event, set your vacation plans for the week of September 11th next year and go away for the week.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY
Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., announced today that county residents will have an opportunity to dispose of hazardous household waste at no charge on Saturday, September 20th at the Newland Park Landfill. The hours for “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” are 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
The event is open to residents of Wicomico County and participants should bring a valid proof of residence such as a driver’s license. The Landfill will be accepting the following:

County Executive Pollitt commented, “Wicomico County has just been cited by the Governor and the MDE for its environmentally friendly marinas. “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” is another step in the right direction of preserving our beautiful county for future generations.”
The Main Street Gym Fundraiser
While the final numbers aren't in just yet, my guess is that we raised more than $10,000.00 for the Main Street Gym. Stacy Sakai, (the Host) went all out and busted their tails putting together one of the most enjoyable events like this that I have ever personally been to.
Of course, when you get great people who care as much about this community like the ones seen above, a great time is inevitable. The Main Street Gym is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and will hopefully swing their doors in the very near future.
I was privileged enough to be the first speaker of many in which I presented Fernando Guerrero with an autographed photo from "Smokin Joe Frazier" made out to Fernando Guerrero. He will be watching Showtime to see if this kid is everything I said he was.
WMDT presented a special tribute to Fernando and Hal which was very well done and very touching. I wish I had a pen at the time so I could have written down all of the people Hal Chernoff thanked because there are a lot of people that deserve special recognition for making this Gym a reality. I'll ask Hal to send me that information because he can spit it out without even thinking twice about it or hesitating at all.
So once again, thank you Stacy Sakai for putting this very special event together and a bigger thanks goes out to ALL of you that attended and or showed support Saturday night.
UPDATE: The Sakai Family were the ones who Hosted this event. Katherine Amenta and Stacy Sakai worked their tails off to get it done.
Oh, yes, that is my Wife/Bride Jennifer in the last photo.
Sandbagger AND Curb Painting
Not only did Louise Smith and the Mayor allow sand bagging to go on last weekend, recently, Louise Smith also have the curbs painted in her neighborhood and bragged about it.
They can't paint the curbs Downtown but they can keep the FOB's happy in their very own neighborhoods as well as neighborhoods the Mayor and her Husband are invested into.
CHANGE CHICAGO STYLE
Sens. Barack Obama & Dick Durbin,
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.,
Gov. Rod Blogojevich,
House leader Mike Madigan,
Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),
Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of former Mayor Richard J. Daley).....the leadership in Illinois.....all Democrats.
Chicago is a combat zone. Of course they're all blaming each other.
Can't blame Republicans, they're aren't any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look'em up if you want). Chicago school system one of the worst in country. This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois.
He's gonna 'fix' Washington politics?

Obama's Racist Membership
I wondered if you would consider this information worthy of a post on your great blog. The information was taken directly from the home page of Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama’s church for 20 years. Thomas A. Littleton
If a white presidential candidate had belonged, for 20 years, to a church that had a White Value System that included the following, would he still be in the race?
White Value System: These White Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Whites are gathered. They consist of the following concepts under which adherents must have a non-negotiable commitment to Europe, and to seeing the world through an European perspective. The church proclaims its commitment to a White Value System which, apart from a commitment to **Pledge Allegiance to All White Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the White Value System,*** includes the Disavowal of the Pursuit of ‘Middleclassness’ on the basis that those who are not middle-class are separated from other white people by Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.
*Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.
Well, would a white presidential candidate be viable after a 20 year membership in such a racist organization, one that required “Allegiance to All White Leadership who embrace the White Value System?” The abominations listed above are actually part of the “ Black Value System” of Rev. Wright’s church that Obama belonged to for 20 years. I just substituted white for black.
Below is the way it is actually written:
Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness." Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the "talented tenth" of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor's control.
Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:
1. Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.
2. Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.
3. Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of "we" and "they" instead of "us."
4. So, while it is permissible to chase "middleclassness" with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method - the psychological entrapment of Black "middleclassness." If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our "voluntary" contributions to methods A and B. And more importantly, Black people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.
5. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to the Black Community.
6. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions.
7. Pledge Allegiance to All Black Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Black Value System.
8. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Black Value System. To measure the worth and validity of all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black Community and the Advancement of Black People towards freedom."
Profiling Incident At Rite Aid This Afternoon
Not sure if you will or can post this on Salisbury news but I have been angry about this all evening and someone needs to know.
Here is a letter I sent in email format to the Board of Directors at Rite Aid this evening.
I feel compelled to write to you and not through Customer Service as I am so disturbed by an occurrence at my local Rite Aid this afternoon.
My son and three of his friends went to the store located on South Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury Maryland early this afternoon to get a drink of water from the water fountain located near the rear of the store. They all entered the store and were immediately stopped by an employee who made them go back outside and only enter one at a time. These are young teens. They agreed and complied with this directive. As one of the young men was headed to the door to exit my son attempted to enter the store and was stopped by this employee who then called the store manager. That store manager was not kind in any way to these young men. He accused one of them of being a shoplifter in the past and when the young man defended himself by stating he had never been in that store before they were all asked to leave.
I will now tell you that all 4 of them are African American young men. When my son asked the manager “if we were all little girls would you have let us all in?” The manager’s reply was YES. When he asked “if we were all white would you have let us in”, he also replied yes. At that point he threatened to call the police. It was not worth the trouble so they turned and left.
I cannot, and will not tolerate this type of behavior by any store in my town and will let all who will listen to this story know just what kind of managers and employees you have in this store and ask that they not shop there. We have enough trouble teaching our children not to treat people differently because of race and assuming character without fairness.
Sincerely,
Very Angry Parent"
What Wayne Gilchrest, and Frank Kratovil, Don't Want You to Know
What Gilchrest, and Kratovil, don't want you to know is that when they say "share our values" they don't meant that they share YOUR values. No this dapper duo shares the values of people like Mike Pretl and the extreme liberal enviros over at WET - the Wicomico Environmental Trust. They just don't want you to know it.
Otherwise, why would Gilchrest want to hold off on a WET event in his honor until AFTER the 2008 election? Read More ...
