The Numbers Just Don't Jive
Back on Feb. 21, 2008 I wrote an article about another spill at the WWTP. Ironically, two years ago to that exact date I have put together the very first article about my findings at the Salisbury WWTP. GO HERE to see the original article.
Their numbers are all over the place. A 4 minute spill only released 28,000 gallons of crud into the River. A month or so ago it was a 20 minute spill and only 5,000 gallons of crud. Let me assure you Ladies & Gentlemen, I have a phone message describing the spill and let me assure you, it wasn't pleasant. It explains a fountain of sewage shooting into the air and what started out being almost 200,000 gallons all of a sudden dropped to 5,000 gallons. Whoops, we screwed up the numbers, a valve wasn't working properly.
Like I said yesterday though. There's no way 5,000 gallons or even 20,000 gallons would make it all the way from the Plant area all the way over to the River. Not unless it flows through a pipe directly into the River. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a community whenever the Mayor made a statement everyone would just say, wow, that's a shame. Instead, Salisbury is loaded with BS excuses and once they see the public outcry, the following day they create all new numbers on everything they do.
Then again, who's counting?
Joe - do a FOI requests for the spills since BPT came into office. That number is up over the millions of gallons mark. If you go back to the early 90's it's over 5 million mark for number of gallons of raw sewage in the river. When the new WWTP goes online, it will be virtually at capacity already, with these types of incidents continuing. Somebody go downtown to MDE and protest.
ReplyDeleteSo what's the answer? The number of gallons is disturbing but what is the answer to stop it? I know it's easy to blame the Mare but for crying out loud, this crap, no pun intended, has been going on forever!
ReplyDeleteI believe the numbers do "Jive", but the real word should be "Jibe".

ReplyDeleteBarrie Tilghman has only been mayor since 1998 -- it was Paul Martin during "the early 90's". No doubt she was aware of the problem when she became mayor and has done little about it (just like he did) until now.

ReplyDeleteRespectfully-hasn't 10 years been enough time to work on things? I also remember her and the PW people I think being in favor of that huge pipe disharging stuff into the river near Market street. So where is her (the city's) proactive stance.
I hate to say it, but this is a bunch of S***. Most of these recent spills have been the result of poor management of the resources out there at the WWTP and contractor error. We should start fining the contractor for every spill that is the result of his staff or his equipment!

Joe, you seem to think you know all the answers to the city's problems. Why don't you get involved and help our officials out in solving problems. It's easy to sit on your ass and criticize everything that's wrong.I have yet to read where the Mayor or city officials have thanked you for your sincere help.
ReplyDeleteYou mean 28,000 gallons unloaded in the river in just the 4 minutes until the mayor said it was contained? I guess it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
ReplyDeleteAnother shell game.
Mayor Barry Tilghman is an old fart you know.A fart it is a pleasant thing,
ReplyDeleteIt gives the belly ease,
It warms the bed in winter,
And suffocates the fleas.
A fart can be quiet,
A fart can be loud,
Some leave a powerful,
Poisonous cloud
A fart can be short,
Or a fart can be long,
Some farts have been known
To sound like a song......
A fart can create
A most curious medley,
A fart can be harmless,
Or silent , and deadly.
A fart might not smell,
While others are vile,
A fart may pass quickly,
Or linger a while......
A fart can occur
In a number of places,
And leave everyone there,
With strange looks on their faces.
From wide-open prairie,
To small elevators,
A fart will find all of
Us sooner or later.
But farts are all bad,
Is simply not true-
We must never forget.......Barry,
Sweet old farts like you!
