Why Is Gas So Inexpensive In Salisbury Versus Ocean City?

36 comments:

  1. Captive audience on the island. Tourists want to gas & go, a certain amount of price insensitivity since the bill won't come due for several weeks. Get on the road rather than price shopping and risking higher prices once headed home.

Same as a lot of other products.

  2. Because that’s not ocean city Maryland but it won’t stop the morons from yelling into their computers. Enjoy

  3. That's Sam's Club which is right now a solid 20cents cheaper than everywhere else in Salisbury. The prices from the rest of the gas stations in Salisbury compared to OC are not that different at all.

  7. That's Sam's club if I'm not mistaken, the membership requirements drives down the need to gouge cost.

Gas is always higher on the Shore because of the limited number of wholesalers
in the area who has a choke hold on the consumer. The best example of gouging is at the state line where gas averages at least 20 cents less per gal. If they can make money being honest, then so can the thieves in Salisbury. Same gas because you can't haul it over the Bay Bridge Tunnel. Also note the fact that when gas goes out of sight and then comes down, Salisbury is always the last to lower prices. People, when you live on the Eastern Shore no matter what you buy, get ready to take the grease.

  14. It's called collusion, and it's illegal. It is price collusion, and is not based on the market, supply and demand, or their wholesale prices. It is a non-competitive practice. The State's attorney should be looking into it if they were doing their job. One call to the violators would get their attention and stop them from doing it. It is being done on a local level. Nationwide the prices are much lower, based on the wholesale market and supply and demand. There are hefty fines for the violation by each of the sellers that are doing it. The owners of the stores are AGREEING to keep the prices high. They do it in a language that the State's Attorney can't understand. All she news is a interpreter and a wiretap.

  15. All the Pakistani and Indian owners are keeping their prices high in violation of the law. Non-Indian and Pakistni stations are selling are the true market price. Buy from another station until they get the message, either from their former customers, or law enforcement.

  16. ONE PLACE in Salisbury! ALL the others are $2.229 and up.

  17. That's a Sam's Club sign. Sam's base their prices for their members based on their cost to buy (wholesale supplier prices). The rest of Salisbury is not doing that. The station owners are bilking their customers because of the pandemic and are getting away with it. I will go out of my way not to buy from them, even if it cost me a few pennies for the extra mileage. Take a look at who's behind the counter before you buy overpriced gas.

  20. Instead of asking a lot of none heads who know nothing go to someone very knowledgeable of the business. Steve Ladd who used to work at Ocesn zLetroleum in Newsrk would be someone to ask who would give you the correct answer Transportatio costs are a reason. The terminsl from where the gas came from is a reason. The make of gas and additives is another

  23. Sad that I spent a minute wasting my time since I already knew the answer.
Every single purchase in the OC area is inflated. What's worse than the price is the service and quality that u get. Probably the worst quality food overall at 90% percent of the restaurants and dont get me started on the crappy high dollar cocktails. Only reason I continue to come down to OC is family. Once a year for 4 to 5 days is more than I can stomach.
