LIST OF APPLICANTS FOR WICOMICO COUNTY EXECUTIVE

Wicomico County Council President Larry W. Dodd has released the official list of applicants for Wicomico County Executive. The County Council by a majority vote of the members will fill the County Executive vacancy on or before September 9, 2020.

Carl Anderton, Jr.

Rene Desmarais

Michele C. Ennis

Joseph B. Holloway WITHDRAWN*

*Councilman Joe Holloway had to regretfully remove his name today as a candidate for Wicomico County Executive. At his request, legal research was done to determine whether the Council could vote for Mr. Holloway as a sitting council member for this position. The County Attorney and Council Attorney researched this matter and, according to Maryland case law and an Attorney General’s opinion, it was determined that his fellow council members would not be able to vote for him to be County Executive. Councilman Holloway thanks everyone for their support in this matter and looks forward to working with a new County Executive.

    1. I agree with you 6:59pm 100%. These idiots that think he is the best choice to run this county need to wake up! He is the laughing stock in Annapolis and this council will be the laughing stock for appointing him.

  5. Help me understand how the L the council gets to pic my co executive? This is supposed to be done by the citizens. In todays technology a vote by citizens wouldnt be a hold up. You can clearly see their setting it up to put the screws to us in the time they have. This destroys/moots the purpose to have a co exec if their picked by the damn council. Bunch of corrupt bastards.

  8. What a crock! This is a perfect example of the Democratic lawyers leading the Republican council around by the nose. Okay county, council and attorney, cite your case laws. No, not your opinion, the actual law.

  9. Anderton will be a puppet. Wicomico just gets worse and worse.

  12. That's a good question. One I'm wondering. Why would Anderton give up his other position?

  20. Something smells really fishy about Anderton leaving Annapolis for this. It just doesn’t pass the sniff test

    1. There’s nothing fishy about Anderton leaving Annapolis for the County Executive position. The County Executive salary of $85,000 pays much, much, much more than does the salary being a piss-ant State Delegate.

      Delete
    2. The Delegate salary is over $50,000 a year without the benefits. Much higher if you include those. Not much more if you realize the Executive has to be in the office 40 plus hours a week and available 24 hours a day. A smart man would stick with the Delegates position where you only have to be in Session 90 days a year. Start a side hustle and make double that the rest of the year and be your own boss.

      Delete
    3. But, you said a smart man. So he will run for executive and loose because everyone knows his accomplishments are none. Before was different, the only reason he lucked into that position was people were voting against fat norm. Not for cornhole

    4. 4:51 You are exactly right. He’s done nothing except hang out with the liberals like he did during the 2016 election. Hanging outside the civic center with the Dems cause he’s a RINO at heart.

  21. For Anderson it’s all about the dollars and influence... in Annapolis he’s a nobody and isn’t taken seriously by anyone inside or outside of the caucus... The executive position for wicomico county has a salary that is almost double a delegates salary... He will definitely be in the pockets of those that have been ruining the county though, it’ll make him feel important

    1. @11:15 am, Carl Anderton is a high school dropout without a GED and this would be the best job of his lifetime and he is almost 50 years old!

  22. Here is a thought. If the council is dumb enough to appoint Carl then who will get appointed to his Delegate seat. Guess what? Whoever gets that appointment will only be there until 2022. That seat will flip back to Democrat so the County Council and the Republican Central Committee better think this one out with serious intentions. Carl Anderton is the only one liberal enough to keep that seat Red. Be careful with your votes!

  23. Carl will get it. The Gillis family runs the show.

  24. Anderton was unimpressive as mayor of Delmar, and had the good fortune to fail upwards into the Delegate role. Jake Day RINO. Council members should be drug tested if they select him.

Let's actually think about the Executive's job and its impact on the county and citizens. Both Holloway and Ennis have long standing familiarity with the issues, resources and processes. Culver also had an advantage as a council member before election as Executive.

Mr. Holloway has withdrawn, citing a legal obstacle.

That leaves Ms. Ennis, who has lengthy experience in high tier managerial roles in the County managing both people and finance areas. She also had the expertise to win Mr. Culver's backing and continued support.

Council members should put past quarrels with Mr. Culver behind, and choose Ms. Ennis. She is by far the most highly educated and experienced candidate ever for the County Executive job (Culver and Pollitt). Put the interests of the county ahead of self. And, if she's chosen we'll have an election in 2022 where her performance can be judged by the voters.

Find the courage to do the right thing.

  25. If anderton gets the gig and when jakey returns Salisbury will look like CA with extreme liberalism, and / or Seattle ... or maybe like NY City... do we really want this.... CA and NY are out of Control, and Seattle really, do we here need this. This is an appointment, you need to reach out and tell them we Do Not Want Anderton.... he will make a mess of this county

  26. The countdown is getting closer for the appointment of Clowntown Cornbread Anderton. This is scary. This is why we need a special election instead of appointments.

I think you meant he *couldn't find his way out of a paper bag and I agree with you. There is a reason this man has never had a real job and that is because he is unemployable. He is pushing 50 years old and should be considering retiring but he is still looking for that awesome job with benefits. This is absolutely ridiculous that Anderton is in the top 3 candidates. I say the council should pick the doctor, at least he is educated and knows how to run a business with employees.

  28. I hope you all know that if Carl Anderton gets this position he will be forking county tax dollars over to the City of Salisbury for their dismal failure called the National Folk Festival.

Carl Anderton will also be giving the City of Salisbury their tax differential that they have been begging for since Barrie Tilghman. Carl has been fighting for that in Annapolis for the past 6 years.

If you don't want this to happen you better be getting on the phone and calling our county council members.

  29. Congratulations to Rene Desmarais as the next county executive.

Kudos to the 4 county council members that did the right thing and voted for Dr. Desmarais. By far the most educated and qualified candidate for the position. This man is not only highly educated but he is a successful businessman. This is exactly what Wicomico County needs to fill the rest of Mr. Culver's term. Dr. Desmarais has the right connections and has run successful cardiology practices in Wicomico County.

  30. Maybe I am wrong but I thought John Cannon was a Republican? My wife and I attended the council meeting and John Cannon was acting like a raging Democrat the way he was voting with the 2 Democrat council members. He said some very nasty things about the doctor. His conduct was very unprofessional and he owes Dr. Desmaris a public apology.

shut up Nicole. Guess you were not paying attention. John Cannon did the right thing with what was in front of him. If you were paying attention the choice for County Executive was very clear as to whom was the most prepared and qualified and capable of running this County. The clear person that was the best for the job was Delegate Carl Anderton. Anderton was the only one prepared and had a clear plan for the future of this County. He had a clear roadmap. What did your Doctor have? oh that's right NOTHING! No you owe every person of this County a public apology for not doing the right thing. Pay attention the next time.
