Ocean City becoming one of Maryland's coronavirus hot spots

OCEAN CITY, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Maryland’s governor has asked residents not to travel outside the state because of coronavirus spikes – but traveling within the state may also be a concern.

Ocean City is fast becoming one of Maryland's new coronavirus hot spots.

FOX 5's Tisha Lewis spoke with one restaurant owner who has staff still recovering from the coronavirus. They’re finally reopening today.

The Blu Crabhouse and Raw Bar posted about the positive case on its Facebook page and they’re not alone. Several restaurants in Ocean City have been forced to scale back amid jumps in coronavirus cases.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan says Worcester County has seen an increase in per capita cases this month.

In Ocean City itself, 38 people had tested positive through the end of June. Now, it’s up to 113 cases.

  4. 8:40 exactly, they can't take your rights over that smoking!!!! Plus they make money on it moron!!! Why do you think they run their mouth about health care and being better if you don't smoke yet won't let the cigarette companies or anyone add photos to their boxes of what could happen if you got some disease from smoking, and the govt sued or someone in the govt made it so they couldn't show grotesque pictures, becasue those pictures truly would stop people from smoking, but that is not the point, they want the money and taxes from smoking and give you pipe dreams saying they are trying to get people to quit...

You people are so fucking stupid it is beyond laughable!!!! Wake the hell up!!!!

  6. Test positive does not mean you will become ill, plus at least 50% are false positives. Hell, they even tested unused test swabs that showed positive. Keep the sheep dumb and penned up. However this bullshit will not prevent our great president from winning a second term.

  7. Easy 840 with the stats. Smoking is bad but one would think if it was really bad the government would end it. Yes? But no is the answer because it's business and politics.

Drinking too causes death and harm to others..even lifetimes of harm. One would think again if it's really bad the government would end it. Yes? No again...business and politics.

One could go on and on. Business and politics are the norm for most everything but yet here we are, continuing to suffer and the government is navigating the ship when they want to.

Lot of government effort and TRILLIONS being spent with COVID. Lots hurting and suffering yet a small percentage making LOTS of money.

    Very strange perspective indeed!!!!

  10. 8:54 nailed it.
9:12 the cost of keeping the programs that would have prevented Covid from getting so out of hand in the US pales in comparison to the trillions we have to spend fighting it. When will Americans wrap their heads around the idea of being proactive rather than reactive?

    1. Not disagreeing at all...just mentioning if smoking and drinking (which kills soooo many) was the real topic like COVID...So many years of stats....then the govt woulda eliminated both. But now, both are part of the economic engine.

I smoke I drink and know the ramifications. Its a current choice... I respect others too. I also don't place others in harm's way. I also know that someday both maybe outlawed due to feelings. But I can brew and pot will be legal soon.

Covid is a revenue generator for the minority, an awful debt for the future and is not our choice.

Huge difference. HOWEVER great burgers and $2 natural lights at Joe's place remains a great choice....with a designated driver of course

      Stay safe all

  11. The workers in Ocean City for the most part are young. The workers who went and got tested were symptomatic and tested positive. Imagine the seeding that went on. The co-workers they infected and the tourist they infected who went on to seed their own community. Young folks are mostly asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms. I just hope they Don't go to their grandparents house on Sunday. The problem is that young kids tend to be irresponsible. I think as we all look back it's a part of growing up. Yes, smoking does kill but it's a choice than one takes. I think there's a big difference between smoking and catching this virus.

  12. Well......if dumbbass Hogan and dumbass Mayor over there would have initially said and enforced, Marylanders from the Eastern Shore only are welcome, then maybe OC wouldn't be in this situation. As it stands are the businesses making a killing like they usually do - No, so letting only Eastern shore people in wouldn't have been any worse and they wouldn't have to be closing down all their businesses again. New York, New Jersey, PA, stay the hell away, go to your own beaches and or lakes.

  15. Ocean City is all about greed. They are reaping what they sowed. Check out the majority of license plates in town. Pennsylvania and other northeastern states that they courted. Overgrown and now can't sustain themselves without them. Actions have consequences - even for so-called "smart" business people!

    1. I don't understand how you group all business owners with greed. I'm sure we have some very greedy people out here. But most are trying to make a living pay their bills and help their employees pay their bills. Money doesn't grow on trees. What are we supposed to do? We literally are on our way to starvation of the masses. I don't understand what you would suggest for the solution? Please help small business. It is the back bone of our country. If the major corporations win this battle we will lose all rights and control. Wake up!!

There is a somewhat lost art called saving and investing. Doing that miraculously helps one navigate through economic downturns. Try it. It works!

  16. Putting dollars before public health and welfare is a losing strategy in both politics and business. Ocean City will reap those rewards in August and September with major shutdowns. The shoulder season will be gone. And next year a disaster.

    2. There is a huge difference between opening up safely-a strategy I ageee with because it works-and what is going on in Ocean City. Trickie Rickie and the business owners can BS all they want about opening safely but your eyes and the stats don’t lie. And people spend on what they see.

  25. Proves Adolph Hogan, his General Meehan their Lieutenant's that control OC puts money ahead of peoples health. They are allowing people from all over to enter OC for their money no matter what their health condition is. Then Adolph Hogan wants to condemn Trump.

What a joke put forth by MD leadership. There are only so many ways to enter OC. Put up road blocks and test them as they enter or rejected. Businesses do it. What is the difference?

Are there even thousands of people in brigeville? Did you see all the false positives coming out of Florida. Covid is a scam. I would bet that if they didn't skew the numbers so bad that there would be a lot less covid deaths. You could be struck by a meteor and die and they would put covid 19 on your death certificate.

  27. Don’t change a thing Rick. Whole town is closing due to sick employees. Employees overworked because of lack of help making their immune systems unheard. Drunks hanging at bars right next to each other. Grab that cash! Don’t worry about the people who live here. And yes, most business owners in this town ARE GREEDY.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 4:22 - one of the solutions would be for the bars to follow the rules. It is well known that the safety protocols aren't being followed. If that isn't greed, it's stupidity! They are setting themselves up to be shut down. Following the rules would give them some income vs. being shut down. So yes - rather than be safe, they are taking their chances for the $$$!

    1. Who do you know isn't following the rules? Do tell?! Everywhere I have been or my kids worked have followed the rules. The owners of establishments have been on point. Can you tell me who and where isn't? Do you really think owners are not following the rules so they purposely are shut down? Come on. Why are the rules just for small business owners. Why not the big corps. Walmart, Sam's, Lowes, home depot? OC is doing the best they can. The owners have been wonderful. Amazing! And they have shut down because they care, not because they have been told to. Don't make up crap. I can tell you some of the workers testing positive, it is because they party together when work is closed. Kudos to OC business owners. And I really hope we can salvage something out of this summer. Small business is the backbone of America. These business owners have been amazing. Kudos to all of them under these stressful times. It has not been easy. How about we support small business. And help them out. Instead of being so judgmental. Please inform me of where you have been where they negate the rules. Waiting?

  29. With all the taxes we should be collecting from all the large corporations, we could have shut down everything down for a month. Use that tax revenue to pay lockdowned employees their regular salary (not any extra like that $600) so they could pay their normal bills. That would have helped keep COVID numbers down, but no, Trump had to have his economy back full force because all he cares about is money.

How does the economy being back full force benefit him financially?? The man has donated every dime of his Presidential salary, and before he was elected he had plenty of money! And before you throw shade at our President let’s talk about the 25 million to the Kennedy Center to Performing Arts,
