Girl, 13, dies from the flu days before her 14th birthday and an unvaccinated four-year-old goes blind during one of the worst virus seasons for decades that's killed 32 children

A four-year-old girl in Iowa who was not vaccinated for the flu has been left blind after suffering a severe bout of the virus that left her in the intensive care unit for two weeks.

Jade DeLucia, of Iowa City, did not receive a flu shot this season but caught the virus a few days before Christmas and within a matter of days the infection triggered a seizure and left her unresponsive in the hospital.

She contracted influenza B, a strain of the flu that affects children more than adults and has been spreading this season.

This year's child flu death toll in the US has risen to 32, according to the CDC. Among those deaths, 21 were from the influenza B virus.

  9. The flu shot only covers certain strains that the CDC thinks will be prevalent each year. And then every year there are other strains going around that aren't covered by the flu shot. It's a crap shoot.

  10. Why take the chance. Illegals are bringing in this weird stuff - you can bet they are getting flu shots for free.
