Today I made a trip to Fenwick and back. During our trip to and from we literally counted 132 vehicles with no headlights on in the rain. I was a passenger in the vehicle, so no, I didn't have anything better to do. Nevertheless, again, it amazes me that it is the law and so many refuse to turn their lights on and not one vehicle had been pulled over. I'll add, in some of the areas we were traveling in was a mandatory headlight use to boot. We saw plenty of Police along the way. Go figure.
Until it is your friend,family member, or (God forbid) kid who is killed because someone was too lazy or ignorant to flip a switch and make their vehicle more visible. Then yes, your world WILL stop turning
The headlight law is not a primary violation. A police officer cannot pull you over for it. They have to pull you over for some other moving or eqipment violation.contact your representatives if you want the law changed. Honestly, I don't think I'd get out in a pouring rain to enforce it if it was a primary stop law, but if you want to give the police one more reason to stop you, have at it.
I also see a lot of drivers not turning lights on at night. What kind of game are they playing? Is this a gang thing or something? See it way too often.
A gang? Really? You have been watching too many urban legends. Its more like the driving schools dont tell you about this law amd kids arent taught it. Its not drilled in them kike seatbelts and 10 and 2, because it doesn't rain all the time to remind the instructor to mention it.
Why was driver ed taken out of public schools? The one class that can enable youths when seeking employment, teach them safe driving techniques and the rules of the road.
Try using the rain x product , it works well . You do not need to use your wipers , so of course no need for lights during rain. Just try it , it works very well , then you can drive to the Alamo and get a burger Only need to apply it every 3 or 4 months , very cheap. LTMC on my burger.(C is for cheese)
surely can't be good for the climate and global warming. all that electricity being used to light them! not to mention the fact all those lights heat up the surrounding air! this won't end well! Armageddon?

Maybe, BUT, these kids HAD to have driven with an adult at some point before getting a license. No excuse for not knowing.

People who have to drive on the same road as they, that's who cares. Voicing an opinion, getting others to talk about an issue can change things. But I understand some people's lackadaisical attitude about things, esp on the shore.
So you go ahead and pull out to pass someone and get a surprise when you finally see the car coming at you, head-on.

Just like the stupid residential sprinkler ordinance that requires fire home sprinklers to be installed in all new residential homes. Our Maryland legislature is the 'peoples enemy no.1'.
I'll just bet you that Maryland and California are probably the only two states that even have such law.

First, there are a lot more vehicles on the road. Vehicles have advanced since 100 years ago also. (But not necessarily drivers skill has advanced), and over time safety experts, (not any of you) have learned how and why certain things happen and make rules to eliminate them.
No turn signals bug the crap out of me...
