Buttigieg: I am not 'cherry-picking' the Bible, it is just 'inconsistent internally'

Pete Buttigieg opened up about his faith in a recent interview and explained why he thinks his liberal positions are not at odds with Christianity.

Responding to charges that he was "picking and choosing" what the Bible teaches about certain issues, Buttigieg told Rolling Stone, "Well, I think for a lot of us — certainly for me — any encounter with Scripture includes some process of sorting out what connects you with God versus what simply tells you about the morals of the times when it was written."

"And to me, that’s not so much cherry-picking as just being serious, because of course there’s so many things in Scripture that are inconsistent internally, and you’ve got to decide what sense to make of it," Buttigieg continued, adding, "Jesus speaks so often in hyperbole and parable, in mysterious code, that in my experience, there’s simply no way that a literal understanding of Scripture can fit into the Bible that I find in my hands."

  2. How many sects of Christians are there?

Now who is gonna tell me this guy isn't a REAL Christian?

Oh yeah... that's over 30 Thousand. There are more sects of Christians than there are verses in the Bible. Over 30 thousand disagreements on what Gods "true" word is.

Now, tell me how you have the right one, and everyone else is wrong?

Or may be, lets apply Occams Razor on this and conclude it is clearly flawed, confusing, and man made?

It's obvious what's going on here. Don't talk about this guys military service in Afghanistan, his time as a Mayor, the fact he graduated from Harvard, then Pembroke Oxford, don't talk about his time working in energy, logistics, and economic development, or as a consultant to DC.... no. Make this about one thing. Turn him into a single thing.

    Gay.

Sorry.. two things... Gay and the wrong kind of Christian.

    1. Everything you mentioned is why I would NEVER vote for him. Baby killer, mayor, DC, Harvard, Oxford, late term crowning dismembered abortion, carbon king.. The man is a total a&& clown.

Hold up... those verses don't really apply here do they? I mean the part about being Gay and having "shameful lusts" might be, but this part:

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.

These verses don't seem to fit the bill of him now do they? Further more.... a Gay person being a God believing Christian sort of nullifies this narrative as were... also I have a problem with this:

32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Are you saying that Gays deserve death. Isn't it part of the doctrine that we all deserve death because we are sinners? All of us?

I don't see where your citation of the verses fit very well... they only seem to muddy the waters.

  7. Jesus said we are to follow the laws handed down by God, and God said "Man shall not lay with another man as he would with a woman". God also burnt a city full of Sodomites! God has also brought forth a new disease (AID's) to help destroy these degenerates. That wasn't enough so now God is bringing forth Anal Cancer to help eliminate these vile sinners!

No real Christian would ever support a Sodomite for President!

  8. He is wrong on so many many fronts. The bible is very clear both in the old as well as new testament what is right and what is wrong.

There is is man's law and god's law.

I will follow god's law on what is right and what is wrong. Leviticus and Romans speaks very clearly on issues concerning immorality.

Hate the sin, but love the sinner

You can't cherry pick and try to mold the bible or justify your life just on certain passages of the bible to make yourself feel better about the immoral lifestyle you have chosen to live.

God help you and god help this country if you or your kind ever get elected to the highest office in the land!!!

I will never, ever eat at TGI Fridays any longer. Boycott those places just like I will never eat at Chik Fila again for donating to LGBTQ's after they said they will never donate to Christian organizations again.

  20. Oh I am so glad evangelical Christians don't cherry pick the bible. Nope not at all. Oh and by the way, it is my belief that when Jesus spoke about talking in tongues, he didn't mean some incomprehensible muttering and yelling of mumbo jumbo. What I believe he meant by the word tongues was the word that he used for what we know call language. You know in Jesus' travels he would have met people speaking Italian, Hindu, Arabic, Latin and many languages, which he referred to as "tongues" because the word "language" was not in use at that time. So quit rolling around and get up off the damn floor in church. You look stupid.
