Eastern Shore Trapping Bid Packets Now Available

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting bids for the 2018-2019 trapping season at several wildlife management areas on the Eastern Shore.

For each location, the individual with the highest bid will be awarded annual trapping privileges for the chosen site. Bidding for specific locations is done through different locations with different deadlines, as follows:

The Best Friend Nazis and White Supremacists Have Is the Liberal Media

Did you hear about the second Unite the Right white supremacist rally in D.C.? You must have heard about it because it was all over the news. In fact, it was so well covered by the media that there were more reporters at the event than white supremacists.
Scott Heins
@scottheins
Can’t stress enough how underwhelming the   group is. Twenty MAGA dudes walking inside of 100s of cops, 100s of media, and 1000s of counter demonstrators down F street
Notice that according to this guy, who does photos for the Washington Post, there were more reporters than participants at this wildly hyped white supremacist rally. It is also worth noting that he rather casually conflates white supremacists with Trump supporters as if there is no difference between them. Let’s break that down because it’s very significant.
First of all, the white supremacist movement in America is tiny. Even the habitually dishonest Southern Poverty Law Center, which works incessantly to hype up the threat of hate groups, admits that there are only 5,000-8,000 Klansmen in America. It doesn’t even take a crack at estimating the number of Nazis, which tells you there are even fewer of them. This is out of a nation of 328 million people. So, if you’re talking about the actual percentage of Americans who believe white people are superior to other races based on the color of their skin and feel strongly enough about it to join organizations dedicated to that fact, we’re talking about an infinitesimal number of people. Just as a point of comparison, the anti-white, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam is estimated to have somewhere between 20,000-50,000 members and its leader Louis Farrakhan has appeared on stage with numerous Democrats in Congress. He even posed for a picture with future President Barack Obama.
If you want to know why only a small number of people attend white supremacist rallies, the obvious answer would seem to be that there aren’t very many white supremacists. Would even that many show up if the liberal media didn’t give them breathless coverage and treat them like political rockstars? On a similar note, would there be violent counter-protesters showing up if the media wasn’t going to give blanket coverage to the event?

The Media’s Latest Scam: Trump’s Going to Be Impeached Because of the Michael Cohen Plea

One of the “it’s so horrible it’s funny” things about the Trump era has been all the “Wow! Pence better get ready because this time we’ve got him for sure” stories. Trump says something, a scandal breaks, the media reports that an anonymous person who may or may not exist has revealed a shocking crime and it’s supposed to be all over! Yet, like Jason from the Friday the 13th series, Trump shrugs off the media’s ax to the forehead or Democrats’ shotgun blast to the chest like it’s nothing and he’s back doing what he does five minutes later while they pull their hair out.

The latest story of this sort is Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen pleading guilty to a number of crimes, all of them unrelated to Trump except for a campaign finance violation. Cohen paid off the porn stars Trump slept with and Trump paid him back.

First of all, is this a campaign finance violation at all? That is arguable because campaign finance laws, beyond the basics, are a murky, byzantine mess that only highly specialized lawyers can navigate and even they only get definitive answers when a judge rules.

Trump’s argument will probably be something akin to, “My personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid off those women I slept with and I reimbursed him. No campaign funds were used. Michael Cohen told me it was legally fine and I did it because I didn’t want to cause any embarrassment to my family.” Is this true? We can’t know for sure at this point, but it certainly seems to be an extremely plausible argument. That is doubly so because Trump has a history of setting up nondisclosure agreements and paying out what could be considered “hush money.”

Obesity Tops 35 Percent in 7 U.S. States

Americans continue to fatten up, with obesity rates topping 35 percent in seven states, a new report reveals.

That's up from five states two years ago. Moreover, no state had a notable improvement in its obesity rate over the previous year, according to the report from Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, both nonprofit health policy organizations.

"Obesity is a complex and often intractable problem, and America's obesity epidemic continues to have serious health and cost consequences for individuals, their families and our nation," said John Auerbach, president of Trust for America's Health.

"The good news is that there is growing evidence that certain prevention programs can reverse these trends. But we won't see meaningful declines in state and national obesity rates until they are implemented throughout the nation and receive sustained support," Auerbach said in a news release from his organization.

States with obesity rates of 35 percent or more now include Iowa and Oklahoma. The others are Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and West Virginia.

The findings are based on 2017 data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They represent a troubling trend, given that in 2012 no state had an obesity rate of 35 percent or more.

Now in every state, at least 1 in 5 adults is obese, according to the "State of Obesity" report.

List of Things You Shouldn't Microwave

If it's possible to microwave it, someone has tried it. Here are objects you might consider microwaving, but shouldn't. You'll get fire, toxic chemicals, or a ruined appliance.

CDs and DVDs

As a general rule, if it's not food, it's probably better not to microwave it. However, you can get a cool plasma display and an interesting effect from microwaving a CD. The problem is, you could also get a fire, release toxic fumes, and ruin your microwave. Of course, the CD will never work again (although this might be a plus, if it's a Nickelback album). If the risk doesn't deter you, I have microwaved a CD and have some tips to minimize the risk.

Armed Teen Demands Sex From Woman, Flees When Concealed Permit Holder Intervenes

A Clay County, Florida, woman says an armed teen confronted her in a Walmart, demanded sex, then ran out of the store after a customer with a concealed carry license intervened.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office quickly captured the teen and confirmed the details, including the fact that the teen “threatened [the woman] with a knife, while making explicit demands.” CCSO also confirmed that the intervention of the customer caused the teen to flee the store.

The woman at the center of the story, Alis Muntain, used a Facebook post to recount the incident. She began by alleging, “Tonight, I was threatened with a knife in Walmart. In FLEMING ISLAND. I am convinced that I would’ve been stabbed had it not been for the divine timing of another customer walking by who just happened to have a concealed carry license.”

She went on to describe the her interaction with the teen:

Fire Departments Struggle to Meet New Demands

The job of a firefighter isn’t what it used to be. Take Charlottesville, Va., for example, where in just the past 18 months the fire departments in the city and surrounding Albemarle County have searched the wreckage of a plane crash in a hard-to-reach wooded area, performed water rescues after spring floods, responded to the derailment of a passenger train carrying Republican members of Congress and, most memorably, provided medical assistance during white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, including one incident that left three people dead last summer. This was all in addition to dealing with downed power lines, an ammonia leak, frozen pipes and yes, even a few fires.

The workload of fire departments has grown substantially, even as their core mission -- putting out fires -- has dwindled. “Communities tend to lean on the fire service in times of crisis,” says Charlottesville Fire Chief Andrew Baxter. “People are looking to the fire service for leadership and partnership for all aspects of emergency response.”

But that ever-evolving mission has brought new strains. It requires training and planning for new dangers such as civil disturbances or active shooters. With increased call volumes, it requires more personnel at a time when a growing number of agencies are finding it difficult to recruit both career and volunteer firefighters, and to diversify their workforces to include more women and minorities. And it comes as some cash-strapped cities are questioning whether the old system of responding to larger call volumes by deploying more firefighters with bigger equipment at more fire stations is sustainable anymore.

Breaking News: The Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the woman who accused him of sexual assault will be called to testify in the Senate on Monday.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, under mounting pressure from senators of his own party, will call President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, and the woman who has accused him of sexual assault before the committee on Monday for extraordinary public hearings just weeks before the midterm elections.

Ticket To Ride: Pot Sellers Put Seniors On The Canna-Bus

Shirley Avedon, 90, had never been a cannabis user. But carpal tunnel syndrome, which sends shooting pains into both of her hands, and an aversion to conventional steroid and surgical treatments are prompting her to consider some new options.

"It's very painful; sometimes I can't even open my hand," Avedon says.

So for the second time in two months, she has climbed aboard a bus that provides seniors at the Laguna Woods Village retirement community in Orange County, Calif., with a free shuttle to a nearby marijuana dispensary.

The retired manager of an oncology office says she's seeking the same relief she saw cancer patients get from smoking marijuana 25 years ago.

"At that time (marijuana) wasn't legal, so they used to get it off their children," she says with a laugh. "It was fantastic what it did for them."

Coons Dodges on ‘Extreme Tactics’ Used Against GOP Senators

Sen. Chris Coons (D., Del.) dodged a question about threats against one of his Republican colleagues Wednesday, instead praising the "passion" of activists who oppose Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd asked Coons about mailed coat hangers, threatening voicemails, and other tactics directed towards senators who may vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

"I’ve got to ask you about some of the tactics, about some of these special interest groups," Todd began. Todd mentioned the "coat hangers sent to Senator Susan Collins’s office, some really nasty voicemails that have been played, you know, the tactics." After recognizing that "there’s a lot of passion," Todd asked of the tactics, "What do you make of 'em?"

Coons seized on the general idea of passion and avoided commenting specifically on the threats made against his Senate colleague Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine). "There is a huge amount of passion, as I think the whole country saw," Coons replied. He noted that passion has been exemplified by the many arrests made during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings and the many calls made by constituents, and he called those actions "well justified."

FEMA’s Brock Long Takes Aim At Critics Questioning Trump’s Puerto Rico Tweets

FEMA Administrator Brock Long said Sunday morning that President Donald Trump’s tweets on Puerto Rico’s death toll stemming from Hurricane Maria have been misconstrued and taken out of context.

NBC Meet the Press host Chuck Todd questioned Long about a series of tweets the president sent downplaying studies showing nearly 3,000 people died from Maria’s aftermath. Long pushed back against the line of questioning, telling Todd that Trump’s been “taken out of context.”

“FEMA was the first responder and the only responder for many weeks going into Puerto Rico,” he said, adding that, “the numbers are all over the place.”

Long went on to compare an adequate disaster response to a four-legged chair, with the federal response representing but one of the legs. The private sector, local officials, and civilians represent the other three legs, he noted.

Americans Agree With Geoffrey Owens: There Is Dignity in Work

To some it may seem like a man-bites-dog story.

Geoffrey Owens, a Hollywood actor famous for his role as Elvin Tibideaux on “The Cosby Show,” had been working at Trader Joe’s for 15 months to provide for his family in between acting opportunities.

When photographs of him working were published by media outlets, people from all walks of life defended Owens and denounced the coverage as “job shaming.”

Yet in the wake of the scandal, a valuable conversation about work has emerged.

Owens himself offered a passionate defense of honest work in a clip posted by Time on Twitter.

"Every job is worthwhile." Former 'Cosby Show' actor Geoffrey Owens speaks out over job-shaming incident https://t.co/zTTzwXwEzQpic.twitter.com/zF8yuxwGAi

— TIME (@TIME) September 4, 2018

In the clip, Owens said he hoped his experience would lead to a “new recognition … about work and about people working,” specifically “the dignity of work and the dignity of the working person.” He also noted that “one kind of work is not better, superior, than another kind of work.”

Owens is spot-on, of course. But it’s worthwhile to highlight something that’s often been overlooked in our national discussion: Owens’ sentiments—and the positive public response to them—demonstrate broadly held American attitudes toward work.

Somerville drops Columbus Day for Indigenous Peoples' Day

SOMERVILLE — The city of Somerville is dropping Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Mayor Joe Curtatone announced the change Thursday in a statement calling Columbus Day a "relic of an outdated and oversimplified version of history."

He says the city made the decision after careful consideration and after receiving many "compelling arguments" for the update.

The city north of Boston joins dozens of others across the U.S. that have started using the holiday to celebrate those who lived in America before Christopher Columbus arrived.

Curtatone said there's no good reason to celebrate Columbus and that the explorer "participated in the early stages of what became a genocide."

Nikki Haley Demands Retraction From WaPo Reporter After He Misquotes Her On Poverty

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley demanded on Saturday that a Washington Post reporter “retract” his claim that she said there were 250,000 U.S. citizens living in poverty.

Policy reporter Jeff Stein and race and economics reporter Tracy Jan wrote a story titled“The Trump administration has a new argument for dismantling the social safety net: It worked” on Friday. Stein tweeted the 250,000 figure that Haley says she “never said” with a link to his story on Friday.

“The Haley number above, I should note, is for ‘extreme poverty,'” he tweeted less than 10 minutes later on Friday, without deleting the incorrect tweet. The incorrect tweet received 299 retweets. The correction tweet received eight.

It is unclear whether the Washington Post story contained the incorrect number in Stein’s tweet. A photo of Haley speaking is the photo that appears in social media links to the story.

Kavanaugh Accuser is an Anti-Trump Leftist Who Attended Women’s March, Donated to DNC

Attempt to derail nomination is a blatant political ploy

Judge Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford is an anti-Trump leftist who participated in the Women’s March and donated to the DNC, revelations that make the attempt to delay Kavanaugh’s nomination look increasingly like a desperate political ploy.

Ford, now a professor at Palo Alto University in California, accused Kavanaugh of holding her down on a bed and groping her at a house party in Maryland in the early 80’s when Kavanaugh was 17 and Ford was 15.

Ford asserts that the attack was so severe, she thought Kavanaugh was going to “inadvertently” kill her, claiming, “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”

The professor says that the assault only came to a stop when a third person, Mark Judge, intervened and jumped on top of them.

Durbin said the Judiciary Committee will have to “be fair” to both Kavanaugh and Ford, adding that it would be too quick this week to have Ford testify because of the importance of a SCOTUS confirmation.

James O’Keefe Planning Deep State Investigation Rollout

James O’Keefe hinted to the crowd at the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles’ 47th annual Eagle Council that his new “deep state” documentary may contain the identity of the author of the infamous op-ed by a “senior Trump administration official” proudly proclaiming that he and others within the administration are working to thwart the president and his agenda.

“I’m going to tease [and] announce what we’re releasing next week,” O’Keefe said as he began introducing his newest effort, Deep State Unmasked. “The subject of our investigation — for launch next week — the deep state … unmasking the deep state.”

“To some, this deep state is an anonymous, faceless resistance. To others, it is a vast unaccountable government bureaucracy or some would it an extra-legal state within a state,” O’Keefe continued.

“Some call it a conspiracy theory. But that conspiracy theory recently took out an op-ed advertisement in the New York Times,” O’Keefe said, in reference to the anonymous op-ed, which has drawn criticism both from the right and from some on the left, like Intercept founder Glenn Greenwald, who wrote that the author was “boasting of membership in an unelected cabal.”

Weather Channel defends reporter captured swaying in Florence winds as 2 people walk behind him

As Hurricane Storm Florence lashed through the Carolinas with howling winds and heavy rain, one reporter was captured attempting to keep it together as winds appeared to lash at him, but was mocked when two people were seen walking behind him with little difficulty.

The viral video, which has more than 13.6 million views, showed Weather Channel correspondent Mike Seidel in Wilmington, North Carolina, trying to fight the heavy wind as he reported live from the storm on Friday.

“This is about as nasty as it’s been,” Seidel said.

A few moments later, the camera panned away and two people were seen walking behind Seidel, appearing to have no problem with the wind.

Social media users mocked the reporter and claimed he was exaggerating the storm.

“So dramatic!” one social media user tweeted with the video. “Dude from the Weather Channel bracing for his life, as 2 dudes just stroll past.”

“When two teenagers nonchalantly walk in the background of your shot and expose your acting job portraying that you can barely stand in the wind,” a social media user wrote.“

Hypocrats Who Decry ‘Dark Money’ Coordinate With Dark Money Group

Senate Democrats have decried support from "dark money" groups for President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but they have been silent on their own coordination with a group that promised to spend at least $5 million against his nomination.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee's scheduled vote on Kavanaugh nears, advocacy group Demand Justice has increased pressure on Senate Democrats to announce their opposition to the nominee. The group hopes their stated opposition will serve to pressure Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine) to join them.

Brian Fallon, the former senior adviser of the Super PAC Priorities USA, became the executive director of Demand Justice earlier this spring to fight Trump's "takeover" of federal courts. He originally pitched the idea for the group in April, months before Trump nominated Kavanaugh, during the spring conference of the Democracy Alliance, a wealthy liberal donor network that funnels millions of dollars into approved political groups.

Weeks before Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced plans to retire, Demand Justice launched a "Ditch the List" website and digital ad campaign targeting Trump's potential Supreme Court nominees.

Kerry: ‘We Knew That Assad Had Kept Some’ Chemical Weapons

Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday that the Obama administration knew that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad kept some of his chemical weapons despite an international agreement brokered to remove the entire stockpile by mid-2014.

"We said we got a hundred percent of the declared weapons out, which is what the Organization for the [Prohibition] of Chemical Weapons was able to track," Kerry said on Fox News. "We knew that Assad had kept some, and we tried to go to the [United Nations] Security Council, and, unfortunately, Russia played games and we didn't get there."

"We struck a deal where we got 100 percent of the chemical weapons out," Kerry said on NBC's "Meet the Press" in 2014.

Democrats Doubling Down on Character Assassination

Judicial Crisis Network on Sunday responded to the accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, questioning both the timing and the allegation made against him just days before the Senate is set to vote on his confirmation.

JCN's Chief Counsel and Policy Director Carrie Severino responded to a Sunday article in The Washington Post quoting Christine Blasey Ford, who says a drunken Kavanaugh attempted to sexually assault her at a party in 1982 when he was 17 and she was 15.

Severino pointed to letters from dozens of women who knew Kavanaugh at the time who said the actions were completely opposite of the type of person they knew him to be. Democrats, Severino said, are "doubling down on a strategy of character assassination" to prevent someone who follows the Constitution from being placed on the court.

MSNBC Joins CNN In Ratings Behind Nickelodeon And HGTV

Fox News pulled out another week in first place in the cable ratings, while MSNBC and CNN failed to even beat home improvement shows and children’s cartoons.

According to Nielsen Media Research, FNC marked its 26th consecutive week as the top network in total day viewers, raking in an audience of 1.3 million. The network also placed first and snagged 2 million in total primetime viewers from July 2 to July 8.

Competitors MSNBC and CNN both struggled to match Fox’s dominance, falling to third and 16th in primetime, respectively.

CNN had a horrible week, managing just 669,000 primetime viewers and losing to the following networks: HGTV, USA, Food Network, TLC, Hallmark, and more. MSNBC fared much better in primetime, finishing third behind HGTV with 1.342 million viewers.

Right-Wing War On The Press Actually Threatening Reporters' Safety

President Donald Trump’s “enemy of the people” rhetoric is putting the lives of American journalists at risk, Mother Jones’ Mark Follman reported Thursday, citing comments from law enforcement leaders and top security officials at two major news outlets.

Trump’s years of vicious invective — echoed by his allies at Fox News — are bearing fruit. Reporters are facing a surge in bomb and death threats, organized harassment, online publication of their personal information (“doxxing”), and threatening mail sent to their home addresses, Follman’s sources warn. One security director at a major television news network told Follman that the threats spike when Trump rails against the network by name, with the harassers often using Trump’s “fake news” language, and that they are primarily aimed at journalists who report on the White House and the Trump-Russia probe — the very targets of the president’s ire.

This heightened fear of violence against reporters will certainly continue throughout Trump’s tenure as president. There’s no indication that he will ever stop demonizing journalists — this is a deliberate strategy to discredit them for political gain that he has continued employing even after a man was arrested for threatening to murder reporters while using Trump’s anti-press rhetoric. But there’s reason to fear that even after Trump is no longer president — especially if he wins re-election in 2020 — his party will continue down the same path. Naked, vicious hostility to the press could become a central plank of the Republican Party, turning elevated concerns about potential violence into the new normal.

Trump’s ascension to the Republican presidential nominee was opposed by a broad cross-section of the party’s establishment. But since he became president, that opposition has almost entirely dissipated.

Pompeo Slams Kerry for Meeting With Iranian Officials to Salvage Nuke Deal

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday castigated one of his predecessors, John Kerry, for meeting privately with Iranian officials to salvage the Iran nuclear deal.

"What Secretary Kerry did was unseemly and unprecedented," Pompeo told reporters at the State Department. "This is a former secretary of state engaged with the world's largest state sponsor of terror, and according to him—you don't have to take my word for it, these are his answers—he was talking to them. He was telling them to wait out this [Trump] administration."

"You can't find precedent for this in U.S. history, and Secretary Kerry ought not to engage in that kind of behavior," Pompeo continued. "It's inconsistent with what the foreign policy of the United States is as directed by this president, and it is beyond inappropriate for him to be engaged in this."

The founder of the movement that showcases stories of why people are walking away from leftist ideology and the Democrat Party is bringing a march and rally to Washington next month to send a message he hopes the mainstream media won’t be able to ignore.

It’s a milestone for what he calls the #WalkAway Campaign.

“No one from the left-wing media has ever even reached out to me for a comment, let alone an interview or to have me on to talk about it,” Straka said, adding:

"What they have done instead is put out stories saying it is a fake campaign, that it’s Russian bots, that it’s Russian propaganda, that it’s paid actors, that the testimonials are fake, that they’re stolen images from Shutterstock with fake testimonials attached, just anything you can imagine."

The march and rally will be held Saturday, Oct. 27.

What election? Republicans have already handed Congress to the Democrats

We hear a lot of talk about Russians interfering with the 2016 election results, but really, Republicans did the job for them.

What if I had told you during the 2016 elections that Republicans would pass a short-term budget bill funding the government and all its vices in a way that is absolutely indistinguishable from a bill Democrats would pass, merge it with a long-term bill funding the worst aspects of immigration, abortion, everything we hate about the Department of Education and Obamacare, massively increase spending, and then pair it with a bill funding the troops? What if I had told you we were about to lose the next election as severely as the 1974 “Watergate” election because Republicans were busy accomplishing the other side’s goals?

It’s bad enough that the Senate passed a “minibus” funding the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor, and Education, attached to defense spending. It’s bad enough that Republicans planned on passing a stopgap continuing resolution (CR) locking in last year’s spending increase through December 7 without addressing the border crisis. Now they have introduced a final bill merging the two.

California professor Christine Ford claims Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her

The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault came forward with her explosive allegations on Sunday, saying the supposed attack "derailed me substantially for four or five years" and claiming that the episode rendered her "unable to have healthy relationships with men."

The woman, Christine Ford, is a professor at Palo Alto University, according to The Washington Post, which published her account on Sunday.

Republicans immediately pushed back Sunday, saying it was "disturbing" that the decades-old allegations surfaced just days before the Judiciary Committee is set to vote on whether to advance Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Senate floor.

"It’s disturbing that these uncorroborated allegations from more than 35 years ago, during high school, would surface on the eve of a committee vote after Democrats sat on them since July," Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a statement.

"If Ranking Member Feinstein and other Committee Democrats took this claim seriously, they should have brought it to the full Committee’s attention much earlier," he continued. "Instead, they said nothing during two joint phone calls with the nominee in August, four days of lengthy public hearings, a closed session for all committee members with the nominee where sensitive topics can be discussed and in more than 1,300 written questions."

Grassley called on Feinstein to publicly release the letter she received in July, "so that everyone can know what she’s known for weeks." He added that the sudden reveal of the allegations "raises a lot of questions about Democrats’ tactics and motives" and noted that no similar allegations had surfaced in Kavanaugh's past despite six separate federal background checks throughout his career.

Huckabee: Kerry Talking to Iranians 'Makes the Case' for First-Ever Logan Act Conviction

Mike Huckabee reacted Sunday on "Fox & Friends" to former Secretary of State John Kerry for holding private meetings with Iranian officials.

As Fox News reported:

Former Secretary of State John Kerry is being slammed for conducting shadow diplomacy with Iran after admitting to multiple meetings with Iranian officials behind the backs of Trump administration officials -- including over the scrapped nuclear deal.

An administration official on Thursday told Fox News Kerry’s meetings are "shameful," pointing out what Iranian-backed militias are doing to kill and injure people in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Other Republicans suggested it may not even be legal.

Huckabee said Kerry could be suited for the first successful prosecution of the Logan Act of 1799, which prohibits conducting unauthorized diplomacy with governments in dispute with the United States.

Chuck Schumer demands Senate Judiciary postpone Kavanaugh vote

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Sunday to postpone a vote on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until a sexual misconduct accusation leveled against him is investigated.

“For too long, when women have made serious allegations of abuse, they have been ignored. That cannot happen in this case," Schumer said via a written statement.

Schumer's calls follow the woman accusing Kavanaugh of trying to force himself onto her in the 1980s, when the pair were in high school, coming forward and publicly putting her name to her claim.

Schumer said Sunday that Kavanaugh's credibility was "even more suspect," repeating Democratic attacks based on the federal appeals court judge's tenure in the George W. Bush White House.

"To railroad a vote now would be an insult to the women of America and the integrity of the Supreme Court," Schumer added.

Possible lodging tax coming to Rehoboth

Hotels, motels and tourist home guests in Rehoboth Beach may see a new city tax next year. Rehoboth commissioners agreed to move forward with a proposed charter change that would allow the city to impose up to a 3 percent lodging tax on those entities.

During a commissioner workshop Sept. 11, Mayor Paul Kuhns said, the city will first look to the General Assembly for the authority to impose the lodging tax.

The state already collects a lodging tax of 8 percent on hotels and motels. Kuhns said most of that money leaves Rehoboth – 5 percent goes to the state’s general fund; 1 percent goes to beach replenishment; 1 percent goes to the State Tourism Office and the remaining 1 percent is split among county tourism offices. Kuhns said this new lodging tax would be for Rehoboth only.

A New York woman has been arrested after police say she made up a story claiming to be the victim of a hate crime.

Adwoa Lewis gave detectives a written statement on Friday, in which she said she was driving home in Long Island September 2 when four teens confronted her.

She claimed they yelled 'Trump 2016!' before telling the black 19-year-old she 'didn't belong here'.

Lewis said the following morning she found her tires had been slashed and there was a note that read 'Go home' on her car, which was parked in front of her home in Baldwin.

Trump To Announce $200 Billion In New China Tariffs As Soon As Monday

In the latest installment of the story that just won't go away, the WSJ reported on Saturday that - as Bloomberg reported first yesterday - the Trump administration plans to announce new tariffs on up to $200 billion in Chinese goods as soon as Monday and otherwise "within days", in a move that will likely render moot the high-level, U.S.-China talks set for later this month, will prompt an immediate retaliation from China, and may lead to a sharply lower futures open on Sunday night.
The silver lining in the imminent announcement is that while previously Trump had said he would proceed with a 25% tariff level, the WSJ reports that the US will start with tariffs of "around 10%." The level was lowered "following extensive public hearings and the submission of written comments where importers and others complained of the possible impact of the duties" as well as to try to reduce the bite on American consumers ahead of the year-end holiday shopping season, these people said.
But the people familiar said that the tariff level could be raised back to 25% if Mr. Trump concludes that Beijing doesn’t soon show signs that it is acceding to U.S. demands to change its economic policies.
Furthermore, WSJ sources said that while details were still being completed over the weekend, the tariff level could change, or that Trump could change his mind entirely. As of Saturday, an announcement was planned for Monday or Tuesday.

Egg on Their Faces: New York Times Retracts False Nikki Haley Smear

On Thursday, the New York Times — America's newspaper of record — published a disgusting false smear against U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. The original article suggested Haley was responsible for spending $52,701 on curtains for the UN ambassador's house in New York City, when in reality the decision to purchase the curtains was made under former president Barack Obama. The Timesappended a correction at the top of the article, altered the headline, and removed the photo of Nikki Haley.

"Nikki Haley's View of New York Is Priceless. Her New Curtains? $52,701." the original headline screamed, complete with a featured picture of Haley at the United Nations. The original version of the article is unavailable, but a screenshot captured by the Washington Post's Aaron Blake revealed that the Times had substantially altered the article after receiving hefty criticism.

"An earlier version of this article and headline created an unfair impression about who was responsible for the purchase in question," a lengthy editor's note explains. "While Nikki R. Haley is the current ambassador to the United Nations, the decision on leasing the ambassador's residence and purchasing the curtains was made during the Obama administration, according to current and former officials. The article should not have focused on Ms. Haley, nor should a picture of her have been used. The article and headline have now been edited to reflect those concerns, and the picture has been removed."

Maryland State Police Investigate Death Of A Caroline County Man

(GREENSBORO, MD) – An investigation is underway into the death of a man last night in Caroline County that occurred after fleeing police and his subsequent arrest for attempting a child abduction.

The deceased is identified as Antone Black, 19, of the 13,000 block of Greensboro Road in Greensboro. Black was transported to Easton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, after police administered Narcan and performed CPR on scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore lists the cause and manner of death as “pending” as toxicology results and additional organ testing needs to be completed.

The child involved is a 12-year old boy who is not being identified. He was reunited with his parents in Greensboro after the incident.

The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, an officer from the Greensboro Police Department was dispatched to Sunset Avenue in the area of the Choptank River Bridge for the report of an adult male, later identified as Black, dragging a 12-year child down the street. The officer was assisted by an off-duty police officer from the Ridgely Police Department, who was in the area at the time of the incident. Upon the officers’ arrival, Antone Black, was observed forcibly restraining the young boy.

The officer from the Greensboro Police Department exited his vehicle and instructed Black to release the boy. As Black let go of the child, the officer asked if they were related. The boy yelled that they were not related and Black told the police officer that they were brothers. The officer then instructed Black to place his hands behind his back.

Black told the police officer that he loved him and then immediately fled the scene. The officer pursued Black on foot, along with two other police officers who had arrived on scene to assist. The foot pursuit ended at Black’s home in a trailer park in the 13,000 block of Greensboro Drive in Greensboro. Black jumped into the driver’s seat of his vehicle, parked next to the trailer.

When Black attempted to exit the passenger side of the vehicle, the officer deployed his department issued tazer. Black continued to flee the scene as he was met by two other officers and a civilian who attempted to restrain him.

During the struggle, Black continued to resist, biting two of the police officers and the civilian who was providing help. Black also struck one of the officers in the face.

Black’s parents were standing at the doorway of the trailer and were heard telling Black to stop struggling and comply with the officers. After several minutes of attempting to calm him down, Black was eventually placed in handcuffs and ankle restraints without the use of any open or closed hand strikes, or police equipment such as tazers, batons, pepper spray or flashlights.

Moments later, while officers were monitoring his breathing, they recognized Black showing signs of medical distress. Officers immediately called for an ambulance and rendered medical assistance on scene by administering Narcan and performing CPR. EMS providers arrived and transported Black to Easton Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The body of the deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The autopsy did not reveal a cause of death, and no significant injuries were noted by the pathologist. At this time the cause and manner of death is listed as pending. Toxicology results are also pending, along with the results of additional testing of vital organs.

The investigation is being conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit. State Police investigators are continuing to review body camera footage and conducting interviews with witnesses. State Police crime scene technicians responded to process the scene.

Troopers from the Easton Barrack and the Maryland State Homicide Unit responded to the scene. The Caroline County State’s Attorney also responded, along with officers from the Greensboro Police Department, Ridgely Police Department, and deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon completion, the investigation by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit will be forwarded to the Caroline County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation is active and ongoing.
