Maryland explores ‘unspecified’ gender option for drivers license applications

Transgender activists are vying to add Maryland to the list of states that allow for “unspecified” gender options on drivers licenses.

The Old Line State may join California, Washington state, and the nation’s capital regarding transgender licenses if lawmakers can garner enough support. The House of Delegates debated a bill working its way through the legislative process on Thursday.

“I’m not concerned about how [transgender individuals] feel about themselves,” Del. Bill Folden, R-Frederick, said, a local radio station reported. “The issue is you are born one way or the other.”

Transgender activist Dana Beyer of Chevy Chase countered: “You really do need to respect peoples’ sense of who they are. Sexual development is very complicated. Gender is your sense of yourself as a man or a woman or as neither.”

Not Verified But Quite Interesting

Interesting - one other question. if electric cars do not use gasoline, they will not participate in paying a gasoline tax on every gallon that is sold for automobiles, which was enacted some years ago to help to maintain our roads and bridges. they will use the roads, but will not pay for their maintenance!

In case you were thinking of buying hybrid or an electric car:

Ever since the advent of electric cars, the REAL cost per mile of those things has never been discussed. All you ever heard was the mpg in terms of gasoline, with nary a mention of the cost of electricity to run it. This is the first article I’ve ever seen and tells the story pretty much as I expected it to

Electricity has to be one of the least efficient ways to power things yet they’re being shoved down our throats. Glad somebody finally put engineering and math to paper.

At a neighborhood BBQ I was talking to a neighbor, a BC Hydro executive. I asked him how that renewable thing was doing. He laughed, then got serious. If you really intend to adopt electric vehicles, he pointed out, you had to face certain realities. For example, a home charging system for a Tesla requires 75 amp service. The average house is equipped with 100 amp service. On our small street (approximately 25 homes), the electrical infrastructure would be unable to carry more than three houses with a single Tesla, each. For even half the homes to have electric vehicles, the system would be wildly over-loaded.

This is the elephant in the room with electric vehicles. Our residential infrastructure cannot bear the load. So as our genius elected officials promote this nonsense, not only are we being urged to buy these things and replace our reliable, cheap generating systems with expensive, new windmills and solar cells, but we will also have to renovate our entire delivery system! This latter "investment" will not be revealed until we're so far down this dead end road that it will be presented with an 'OOPS...!' and a shrug.

If you want to argue with a green person over cars that are eco-friendly, just read the following. Note: If you ARE a green person, read it anyway. It’s enlightening.

Eric test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors and he writes, "For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine” Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles.

It will take you 4.5 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned, so I looked up what I pay for electricity. I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh. 16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery. $18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery. Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine that gets only 32 mpg. $3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.

The gasoline powered car costs about $20,000 while the Volt costs $46,000-plus. So the American Government wants loyal Americans not to do the math, but simply pay three times as much for a car, that costs more than seven times as much to run, and takes three times longer to drive across the country.

Liberals Furious That Trump Wants To Replace Food Stamps With Actual Food

In his big budget proposal on Monday, President Trump offered a novel idea: Instead of giving people in need government stamps they can redeem for food, why not just give them actual food?

As you might guess, liberals were enraged by the notion. How dare Trump try to take away food stamps from hungry people and give them — of all things — food!

Here's how the liberal HuffPost saw it: "Facing a trillion-dollar deficit because of his just-passed tax cuts, President Donald Trump has an idea for how to get some of that money back: making poor people eat beans and rice."

HELP WANTED... PART TIME MAYOR... $50,000.00 YEARLY

The City of Salisbury is desperately searching for someone without buck teeth, straight, heterosexual, of sound mind, full head of hair, morals, accountable, selfie photogenic, over 50, corporate executive experience, a non on line degree, (fill in the blank).

The Salisbury City Council overrode the Mayor's veto on salary increases across the board for the Mayor and Council last night. When you elect a bunch of low life people with no experience and desperately need the money, this is what you get. Liberals continue to prove it's not about serving your community for the right reasons. Now it's all about the money while they raise your taxes and instead bringing forth incredible expenses, grow government, all WITHOUT cutting the budget.

Your local media seem overly excited for the select few working part time and I'm sure they'll also find a way to get sick leave to boot.

Intelligent citizens should study each topic at hand and confront each Council Member on PAC 14 under public comment and drill them to see if they in fact do completely understand every piece of legislation being considered. I can guarantee you that a majority are absolutely clueless and never took a look at each packet. Yeah, these people deserve a raise! This is why we call them a "Rubber Stamp Council" lead by a Good Ol' Boy Mayor.

Can someone please tell me anywhere else in the United States where you can get a "Part Time" job for $50,000.00 a year?

‘The View’ Hosts Call Pence’s Christian Faith ‘Dangerous,’ Form of ‘Mental Illness’

"The View" panel mocked Vice President Mike Pence's Christian faith on Tuesday, with co-host Joy Behar saying it was indicative of "mental illness" to think Jesus was talking to him, after former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman called the vice president "scary."

Manigault Newman made headlines for scathing remarks on "Celebrity Big Brother" about her time in the Trump administration, saying in the most recent episode that Pence was "scary" and that he thinks "Jesus tells him to say things."

"As bad as ya'll think Trump is, you would be worried about Pence," she said. "We would be begging for days of Trump back if Pence became president. He's extreme. I'm Christian. I love Jesus, but he thinks Jesus tells him to say things."

"Like I said before, it's one thing to talk to Jesus. It's another thing when Jesus talks to you," Behar said, to laughter from the audience. "That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct. Hearing voices."

‘DREAMers’ Say They'll Leave U.S. if DACA Deal Doesn't Allow Them to Stay

At least two "DREAMer" aliens say they’ll leave the U.S. if they’re not allowed to stay legally after March 5, when the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) expires.

If Congress doesn’t make a deal to allow them to stay, the Velez sisters will exercise their “choice” to leave the country, CNN Money reports:

"'Alex and I are both over this [DACA situation],' said Daniela, who is 24 years old. 'If DACA ends, I will leave with Alex. I will close my business, leave work and school.'

Tastes like ... too many chicken houses? That's what some on Virginia Eastern Shore are saying

ONLEY, VA.

The giant processing plants of Perdue Farms and Tyson Foods stand about 13 miles apart on U.S. 13. It makes for a handy way to mark progress when driving the upper spine of the Virginia Eastern Shore, in Accomack County.

To most people passing through, the plants are the only poultry industry landmarks on the Shore. So that’s where our chicken comes from?

Those who live in Accomack know better.

Mosey down just about any road on either side of the main highway, and you’ll come upon clusters of low-slung, metal-roofed buildings that stretch hundreds of feet from end to end. They’re chicken-growing houses. By some estimates, more than 300 of them dot the county now, many put up in the past few years. More are on the way.

A Viewer Writes: WCBoE Safety Teaching Today

I’d like to remain anonymous but wanted to share what BMS taught my child today regarding staying safe during an active shooter event.

We mentioned the recent shooting this evening and our child stated that the class teacher taught them what to do if an active shooter were to be present in the school. At first we were pleased that the issue was discussed. That was short lived by what the teacher was telling the students to do. The children were told that they were to hide in a corner where books were. The teacher would then stand near the door with a heavy object and wait in case the active shooter were to enter and the teacher would hit him/her. The teacher told the students they should throw the books at the shooter then attack. One of the students was told they could assist the teacher in attacking the active shooter.

Call me selfish, heartless, whatever. Our child doesn’t need to be taught to be a hero. Attacking the active shooter with books, and not to find shelter, is worrisome. I understand there needs to be a plan. However, I’m not in agreement with this being the solution or safest decision for children.

A Florida Teacher Speaks Out About School Shooting

Kelly Guthrie Raley

Okay, I’ll be the bad guy and say what no one else is brave enough to say, but wants to say. I’ll take all the criticism and attacks from everyone because you know what? I’m a TEACHER. I live this life daily. And I wouldn’t do anything else! But I also know daily I could end up in an active shooter situation.

Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each others’ faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!!

I grew up with guns. Everyone knows that. But you know what? My parents NEVER supported any bad behavior from me. I was terrified of doing something bad at school, as I would have not had a life until I corrected the problem and straightened my ass out. My parents invaded my life. They knew where I was ALL the time. They made me have a curfew. They made me wake them up when I got home. They made me respect their rules. They had full control of their house, and at any time could and would go through every inch of my bedroom, backpack, pockets, anything! Parents: it’s time to STEP UP! Be the parent that actually gives a crap! Be the annoying mom that pries and knows what your kid is doing. STOP being their friend. They have enough “friends” at school. Be their parent. Being the “cool mom” means not a damn thing when either your kid is dead or your kid kills other people because they were allowed to have their space and privacy in YOUR HOME. I’ll say it again. My home was filled with guns growing up. For God’s sake, my daddy was an 82nd Airborne Ranger who lost half his face serving our country. But you know what? I never dreamed of shooting anyone with his guns. I never dreamed of taking one! I was taught respect for human life, compassion, rules, common decency, and most of all, I was taught that until I moved out, my life and bedroom wasn’t mine...it was theirs. And they were going to know what was happening because they loved me and wanted the best for me.

There. Say that I’m a horrible person. I didn’t bring up gun control, and I will refuse to debate it with anyone. This post wasn’t about gun control. This was me, loving the crap out of people and wanting the best for them. This was about my school babies and knowing that God created each one for greatness, and just wanting them to reach their futures. It’s about 20 years ago this year I started my teaching career. Violence was not this bad 20 years ago. Lack of compassion wasn’t this bad 20 years ago. And God knows 20 years ago that I wasn’t afraid daily to call a parent because I KNEW that 9 out of 10 would cuss me out, tell me to go to Hell, call the news on me, call the school board on me, or post all over FaceBook about me because I called to let them know what their child chose to do at school...because they are a NORMAL kid!!!!!

Those 17 lives mattered. When are we going to take our own responsibility seriously?

Trump Budget Nixes Federal Funding for NPR, PBS

President Donald Trump’s 2019 budget includes a proposal that would eliminate federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), according to a report.

The Hill reported that Trump’s budget would cut funding for CPB — which funds public television and radio stations such as PBS and NPR — over two years.

“To conduct an orderly transition away from Federal funding, the Budget requests $15.5 million in 2019 and $15 million in 2020, which would include funding for personnel costs of $16.2 million, rental costs of $8.9 million; and other costs totaling $5.4 million,” according to the proposal.

“CPB grants represent a small share of the total funding for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR), which primarily rely on private donations to fund their operations,” the proposal continued.

Trump wants to cut food stamps, use controversial meal kits instead

A proposal by the Trump administration that calls for replacing some food assistance to the poor with meal deliveries is raising questions among some social service agencies.

On Monday, the Trump administration proposed cutting food stamps, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, by $17 billion in 2019 and more than $213 billion over the next decade.

In an effort to cut costs, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney announced "America's Harvest Box" for SNAP recipients.

Instead of receiving assistance in the form of an electronic benefit card (EBT), recipients receiving more than $90 in monthly aid would get about half that amount in the form of government-provided, nonperishable food items.

That idea isn't sitting well with advocates for the poor.

Wicomico County Gang Member Arrested On Gun Charges

(WILLARDS, MD) – Maryland State Police have arrested a criminal gang member who is believed to have been involved in trafficking guns on the Eastern Shore.

The accused is identified as Dana A. Lank II, 38, of Willards, Md. He is currently charged with the illegal possession/sale of an assault weapon, being a prohibited person in possession of a rifle/shotgun, and illegal possession of ammunition. Additional charges are possible. Following his arrest, Lank was held without bond in the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Earlier this month, members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and the Maryland State Apprehension Team began an investigation after information was developed concerning Lank’s possible involvement with the illegal sale of firearms. The State Police investigation indicated Lank was involved in converting semi-automatic rifles to fully-automatic and illegally selling regulated assault rifles. Investigators determined Lank was involved in a pending illegal sale of an undocumented SKS assault rifle. He was also identified as a member of the Dead Man Incorporated criminal gang.

On February 9, 2018, members of the State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and State Apprehension Team, assisted by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office K-9, stopped Lank for a traffic violation in Wicomico County. A rifle was recovered from his vehicle, which was identified an SKS assault rifle. Lank was arrested and taken to the Salisbury Barrack for processing.

Investigators served two subsequent search warrants, including one at Lank’s residence and another at a residence connected to Lank in Berlin. Investigators recovered a modified, fully-automatic Heckler & Koch assault rifle, a sawed off shotgun, a .357 magnum revolver, a Grendle assault rifle with no serial number, various rifle and shotgun parts and five ammunition cans filled with rifle and shotgun rounds.

Investigators received significant support from the State Police Maryland Gun Center, where investigators ran multiple inquiries on specific firearms and individuals connected with the investigation. The Maryland Gun Center also provided detailed information about the proper criminal charges to place against Lank.

Suspicious Lost Dog In Salisbury: UPDATE

This morning at 6:30 the two dogs in the picture went outside for their morning run. At 6:35 the St. Bernard returned without the other dog. She was gagging and drooling and shaking badly. I got her in and then started looking for the other dog. Her name is Tess. I called for a couple minutes and she didn't show up. Within minutes I was in the car and drove down the road a bit to where a dead deer had been in the field. Thinking maybe she was trying to drag some of the deer back to the farm. She still hadn't returned. We have been looking for her all day and nothing. What we did find was the second picture of chicken on my property. I am now concerned that my dogs were lured to the road and in an attempt to take them, the one got away. She is so traumatized that she won't move. We are still waiting to see if she is going to show any signs of poisoning. The Shepard still has not been found and there are no signs of her or that she would have ran. Someone said you sometimes post stories of lost dogs.

Md. senator proposes federal funding ban on DC military parades, exhibitions

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ben Cardin has introduced a bill that would prevent allocating federal funds toward any kind of military parade or exhibition in the nation’s capital.

The Maryland Democrat’s measure is in response to President Donald Trump’s interest in having a massive military display similar to one he witnessed in person last year during France’s Bastille Day celebration in Paris.

“We don’t need to flex our muscles to showcase our military hardware,” Cardin said in a statement. “Our brave military men and women flex their might around the world every day on behalf of our nation.”

The Maryland lawmaker introduced a similar amendment last year as a part of the fiscal 2018 defense authorization bill, but the prohibition was not included in the final version of the legislation.

So far, Cardin’s bill has collected three Democratic cosponsors: Sens. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.

A Viewer Writes: 94th Street Mall Demolition

Good Morning Joe -

An interesting development has occurred at the site of the 94th Street mall demolition. The project has been shut down by the Maryland Department of the Environment due to the Contractor/Owner deciding not to remove the asbestos on the roof of the building. This was not an unknown portion of the project since a full environmental report was put out noting the locations and concentrations of asbestos. So basically all the dust generated by the demolition thus far has contained asbestos and traveled who knows how far. Hopefully the City and State will hold these individuals fully accountable for their actions for essentially potentially poisoning our precious barrier island.

Suspected gunman Nikolas Cruz was living with Florida high school student in months leading up to massacre, attorney says

Nikolas Cruz, the suspected gunman in Wednesday’s shooting at a Florida high school that left at least 17 people dead, was living in a mobile home with a student for the last three months, his attorney said.

A portrait of the suspected gunman began to emerge of the former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student in the hours following the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook.

Cruz was arrested without incident just over a mile from where he was suspected of killing more than a dozen people, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said Cruz used an AR-15 and had multiple magazines on him during the shooting. Cruz’s attorney Jim Lewis told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the firearm was legally bought and already own the gun when he moved in with a friend, a junior at the Parkland high school, three months ago.

“It was his gun,” Lewis told the newspaper. “The family made him keep it in a locked gun cabinet in the house but he had a key.”

Trump administration proposes sending food directly to low-income families

The Trump administration proposed Monday to have the Department of Agriculture prepare and send packages of food directly to low-income families, replacing a portion of their food stamp benefits.

The proposal, new in the White House fiscal 2019 budget, is for families to receive some of their benefits “in the form of a USDA Foods package, which would include items such as shelf-stable milk, ready-to-eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit, vegetables, and meat, poultry or fish.”

Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney called it a "Blue Apron-type program" Monday afternoon, comparing it to the meal kit service. The government would save money on the box, he said, because it could buy the food items wholesale, whereas typically food stamp recipients have to buy food at retail prices.

The package would replace a portion of traditional Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for families receiving more than $90 in benefits a month as a way of saving money, increasing the nutritional value of benefits, and cracking down on fraud.

The broader budget document, which is a proposal from the White House to Congress, calls for reducing SNAP or food stamp spending by more than $200 billion over the next 10 years. The government spent $64 billion on SNAP benefits in 2017.

Paid Sick Leave Law Goes Into Effect In Maryland

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Maryland’s new sick leave policy has gone into effect.

It took a lengthy battle, and faced many setbacks from both Gov. Larry Hogan and the state Senate.

While most Maryland employers provide paid sick leave, analysts estimated about 700,000 people didn’t have the benefit which this law will now change.

Supporters have been fighting to pass Maryland’s paid sick leave policy for six years.

It passed last year, but was immediately vetoed by Gov. Hogan.

“This legislation is an ill-conceived, poorly written, complicated and confusing, and inflexible mess,” Hogan said after it was passed.

The Genius Of Trump's Food Stamp Proposal: You're Not Supposed To Like Being On Welfare

Incentives.

If I was on food stamps, I wouldn't like this either... I think that's the point.

If you can't afford to buy your own food and you need the government to provide it for you, then you get it on the government's terms.

That's usually what happens when someone else is supplying your needs.

Don't like it? Take every available action to get off food stamps and achieve independence, at which point you can buy whatever you want at the grocery store with your own money that you earned.

Until then, enjoy your Harvest Box:

Under the USDA America’s Harvest Box proposal, all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participating households receiving $90 per month or more in benefits will receive a package of nutritious, 100-percent U.S. grown and produced food. Approximately 16.4 million households, or about 81 percent of SNAP households would be impacted by this proposal.

The amount of food received per household would be scaled to the overall size of the household’s SNAP allotment, ultimately representing about half of their benefits. SNAP participants would receive domestically-sourced and produced food in lieu of a portion of their SNAP benefits.

USDA would utilize a model similar to that currently used to distribute USDA Foods to other nutrition assistance programs to provide staple, shelf-stable foods (such as shelf-stable milk, juice, grains, ready-eatcereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables) to SNAP households at approximately half the retail cost.

This proposal creates a new approach to nutrition assistance that combines retail-based SNAP benefits with delivery of USDA America’s Harvest Boxes supporting the President’s leadership on Buy American. This proposal is cost-effective, enhances the integrity of SNAP, and provides for states’ flexibility in administration of the program.

The remainder of the household’s benefits will still be provided via the current Electronic Benefit Transfer card.

Reilly proposes weakening Eastern Shore veto over new Chesapeake Bay bridge

It was state Sen. Ed Reilly versus various Eastern Shore governments Wednesday as he defended legislation to weaken those governments’ veto power over a potential new bridge across the Chesapeake Bay.

Reilly argued in a committee hearing that the Eastern Shore counties shouldn’t have the authority to stop a new Chesapeake Bay Bridge just because they don’t like the location of it.

State law requires a state body to get consent from a majority of affected Eastern Shore counties when building a toll bridge or highway. This affects nine counties: Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.

Senate Bill 34, sponsored only by Reilly, tweaks the state law to not allow the shore counties to overrule a bridge that spans the Chesapeake Bay.

Radical Muslim allowed in U.S. by Hillary now accused of rape

Clinton overruled ban on Tariq Ramadan despite terror ties

A prominent Muslim leader who for years had been denied entry to the United States because of possible terror ties until Hillary Clinton granted him special permission as an outreach to Muslims, now has been accused of rape.

Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder and Hamas founder Hassan al Banna, this week was denied bail by a judge in France.

Ramadan, a professor at Oxford University, was arrested in Paris last week and charged with raping two Muslim women. The first, a 40-year-old disabled Muslim convert, claims Ramadan raped and beat her in the southeastern city of Lyon in 2009. The other, a 41-year-old feminist activist, says Ramadan raped her in Paris in 2012.

Ramadan had been barred from entry to the U.S. along with sociologist Adam Habib.

The State Department explained at the time that both men presented a potential national security threat.

Couple sells all possessions for sailboat, sinks 2 days into trip

A couple’s plan for a better life has been sunk.

Nikki Walsh, 24, and boyfriend Tanner Broadwell, 26, decided nearly a year ago that they were tired of working.

“How can we live our lives when we’re working most of the day and you have to pay so much just to live?” Walsh, who booked timeshare tours for a living, said to the New York Post.

“Most of the work you do goes to your home. There has to be another option,” she added.

So, the Colorado couple sold all their furniture and their SUV and purchased a 49-year-old boat in Alabama to live on and eventually sail the world in.
