No. You can only receive cash back if you have both cash welfare (TAFDC)benefits and SNAP/food stamp benefits on your card. If you want to use your cash welfare benefits to buy food or get cash back, you have to swipe your EBT card in the machine a second time.

The Food Lion on Rt. 611 in west Ocean City wants all EBT customers to stop in before you get to the beach and purchase one item, then ask the cashier for the balance on your card in CASH!
That's right, Food Lion is paying out CASH MONEY for all EBT balances so you can enjoy your time at the beach. Our tax dollars hard at work, right?
This should not be legal.

This is accomplished by wiring money to Mexico and other central American countries . Food Lion on Nanticoke Road is famous for that and EBT cards for cash.

There are some cards that allow cash to be returned. They are typically cards with multiple benefits loaded on them. Certain benefits cannot be cashed out.

ReplyDeleteAn EBT card can have a food stamp balance and/or a cash balance, not always both. Cash can be withdrawn at any atm or store that allows cash back. The person can call the number on their card or check online to see their balance. Only food items are able to be bought with the food stamp balance.

I can remember in the 60's if you were laid off or lost employment, you were eligible to draw unemployment benefits after a period of time and for a period of time (not lifetime). But, most people had too much pride to even do this and went without until employment was found and that wasn't very long. People took pride in earning their way.

DeleteI own a bakery. I was told I could sell a Wedding cake at what ever price and the cake topper if it did not cost more than 1/2 price of the cake. I called to find out if this was true. Lady came to my shop and ask questions and wanted me to fill out some paperwork and she needed to take a picture of my commercial kitchen. I LOOKED AT HER AND ASK IF SHE WAS FOR REAL? I could have made a killing on this program BUT I WOULD NOT be able to sleep knowing I did this. I ask the lady to leave my business and that I was a taxpayer and didn't believe the tax money should be spent in this manor. She left puzzled. I sleep well at night.

ReplyDeleteWhen I had a baby, I immediately added my child to my health insurance at work. But the other women told me they didn't add their children because then the government will cover their insurance and daycare costs. This is how they afford to travel and wear nice clothes.

No I can't afford to blows hundreds on a vacation but a simple beach trip, yes. Stop judging "EBT" USERS. Were not all the same. Secondly, if the state's allowing people to buy frozen seafood that's on the state. Thirdly, the places charging for steaming are just trying to make their money as well. Obviously if EBT allows you to buy seafood, people are going too. And obviously if you buy it, you're going to steam it.
