Breaking News: Starbucks will shut over 8,000 shops in the U.S. on May 29 for racial-bias training after the arrest of two black men at one in Philadelphia

Starbucks said on Tuesday it would close more than 8,000 of its stores in the United States on May 29 to conduct racial-bias training for nearly 175,000 employees.

The move comes amid an outcry prompted by the arrests of two African-American men at a Starbucks location in Philadelphia last week.

  1. While I don't think they should have been arrested, when the same thing happens to a couple of white guys nobody cares. They should have bought a small coffee or waited outside. The whole thing smells like a setup to me. Like they were trolling for a payday and pulling the race card.

  2. Keep them closed, who cares.

  3. Perhaps they could offer them some liberal-bias training at the same time.

  5. There is such thing as unconscious bias, we can either try to grow as a society or keep everything the same because some people find it too hard to learn something new.

  7. I have managed businesses and employees for decades. I would never shutter the stores for training. Ever.

    This is a publicity stunt.

  8. Really, If they are that weak-kneed to close the coffee shops down. They can take the rest of the week off on some of the objections I have about them.

  13. 3:53 Mgr was white but don't let facts get in your way. "Rashon Nelson is a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity's Alpha Eta chapter and graduated from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania in 2017. The finance major and a business partner had been waiting on their colleague in the Center City, Philadelphia Starbucks." Not homeless either. What grade did you make it to before dropping out?

    Love Royal Farm coffee!

Plenty of REAL milk for the cup - not that stupid drip drip crusty nipple you find at Mom & Pop's stores.

  19. I have never understood why anyone would pay such high prices for an inferior product. I agree, they should close for good.

  21. Glad it happened to this bunch or Liberals, and those 2 bums were inside for over a hour and never bought a thing.
I would have called the cops and said "One threatened me with his hand in his coat, I think he has a gun!"

  22. The day that they are closed will be my happy day. Just think of all the pompous little snowflakes running around in circles in withdrawal. Stories will be passed down to future generations about the day in history that they survived. Stories will grow with each passing day similar to the 14,000,000.00 people that attended Woodstock.

  24. Do not go to Rise up there coffee is bitter crap.

  25. 9:24 That would be filing a false report to police. Not too bright are you. Starbucks has always been an open place to meet and use wifi regardless of buying coffee. You don't need to buy a happy meal to use wifi at McDonalds either.

Sounds like some of you\ are jealous of Rise up's success They just opened a new place near joe's pool bar.

  29. 9:24 We should arrest all those old white people walking circles in the mall for exercise that never buy anything too.

You just don't grasp that concept that there lots of people that work or are self employed that don't have an office or go to a job site and pound nails on a daily basis. In urban areas where people commute to the city, Starbucks has always been a meeting place to use wifi, network or chill for a bit. Not everyone buys a product on every visit but over time brand recognition brings in more customers than kicking people out for not buying something. If you people around here are so smart and business savvy, why are there no real jobs here and businesses closing?

  30. Let's hope Salisbury's store doesn't re-open. They don't stand for America. They must put something in the coffee that makes customers stupid.

  31. Lordy! Everyone need to stay home on this day. There will be a lot of gun carrying NRA Snowflakes going through caffeine withdrawal on this day. Proceed with caution on May 29, 2018 :-) :-)
